Features : No Opinion
It's a 4x12 cabinet
Stereo mono switched @ 4 or 8 ohms respectively
(This review is about a year old)

Sound Quality : 8
Sounds good. I expected a bit more bottom end as the crate cab I bought this to replace has more depth in the tone but is also larger dimensionally, maybe when the speakers are broken in a bit it'll mellow out. It does sound really good though, tight and punchy but I'm sure the sound will improve with a few more hours of excessive decibel playing pushed through the voice coils.Maybe not.

Reliability : 5
I give it a 5 because of the jacks and jack plate.
Come on Carvin... STOP BUYING CHEAP JACKS! (Hopefully you have stopped by now) I had a bad Jack in my MTS, then the jack in this just bent out of shape when I pulled the speaker cord out... good grief. I could have gotten a replacement from Carvin no problem I'm sure but why if it's the same type. I took the thing apart and the metal in the jack is just flimsy as crap. If not for this I could have easily given this thing a 10.
Carvin, Please Fire whoever is sourcing these parts, it ain't saving money in the long run and certainly isn't helping your reputation. Come on guys, you are better than this, I know it.
Otherwise top notch, well made. (no labels on the speakers though?)

Customer Support : 10
These guys are great. I have dealt with them before. I was a little disapointed when I got my head a few years back and the loop jack was bad right out of the box, they sent me a new part so I could fix it myself but I wasn't excited that if I wanted them to fix it I'd have to pay shipping, at least they could have done a will call exchange or something but in the end I am satisfied with the head and now I have a matching cab for it.... and again a jack problem.

Overall Rating : No Opinion
If not for the jack I'd give an 8.

Best CAb ever for sure. WHat features can a cab have other then looks and speakers. The look is a Legacy in itself and the speakers are the best V30's ever!

Very smooth yet punch. Incredibly responsive perfect speakers. The closed back Cab forces the sound out and enhances treble woohooo. perfect in every way.

This is a brand new Carvin Legacy 4x12 straight cabinet. The cab comes loaded with Celestion Vintage 30s. When these cabs first came out they were loaded with Greenbacks. Due to a change in Steve Vai's preference (Carvin told me he liked the sound and projection of the V30s in a live setting better than the Greenbacks after using the cabs live) they now come with V30s. The cabinet is mono only. I preferred a cabinet with mono/stereo capabilities and Carvin's other cab they offer (with Carvin BR12 speakers) has mono/stereo capability. With all the custom work they do on guitars it bugged me slightly that they wouldn't add the the stereo switch to the Legacy or load their other cab with V30s so I could have a mono/stereo cab. My understanding is that the cabs are virtually identical other than cosmetics, so it shouldn't have been a big deal. They did offer to sell me the switch jack if I wished to rewire the cab myself. Casters are optional (I definately recommend) as is an amp cover which I got free due to a special they were running. I'll give this a 6, after all how many features does a cab have anyway, and since I couldn't get it mono/stereo and the casters were extra.

Sound Quality : 10
This cab sounds FANTASTIC. I'm using the cab with various Carvin guitars, a Peavey Wolfgang and various Ibanez guitars. I use a rack setup (why I wanted a stereo cab, but not a huge deal because I usually use two cabs live anyways) that includes a Rocktron Piranha or Hughes and Kettner Access Preamp and a Mesa 2:90 Power amp. My band plays classic to modern/hard rock and this cab really shines for this type of music (although I think it would sound great on just about everything). I was looking to buy a V30 loaded cab for a long time. I was interested in the Mesa Recto cab ($769), Marshall 1960BV ($825) and Legacy cab ($499), and tried out the Mesa and Marshall individually (couldn't find a store that had both to try side by side). Both sounded great, but I was having a tough time justifying an additional $270-$326 for a cab loaded with the same speakers. I decided to take a gamble on the Legacy (unheard), after all I could return within 10 days if I didn't like it.

When I plugged it in at the first gig with it I was floored. The cabinet sounded huge and very punchy. I currently have a 5150 cab also and previously owned a Marshall 1960A and both those cabs have a certain harshness at high volumes (some may like this). The Legacy really retained the clarity and definition much better than my other cabs at high volumes and had a sweetness/smoothness that my other cabs lacked plus a great low end punch (all thanks to the V30s no doubt). Overall I'd recommend a V30 loaded cab to anyone. At the price these cabs sell for I think they are the best deal out there!!!

Reliability : 9
It seems to be built very sturdy. The casters are better than the casters on my 5150. I believe the cab is made from 7 ply poplar (check with Carvin for exact specs) and the V30s are protected with a metal grill. I don't anticipate problems and have had very few problems with my Carvin guitars (which I love). I'll give 'em a 9 cause you never know.

Overall I've had good luck with Carvin customer support, although it is hit or miss depending who you get on the phone.

Overall Rating : 10
Overall I think this is the best value in cabs out there. Most people are apprehensive (and rightly so) to buy something unseen or unheard. If you know you want a V30 loaded cab, this is certainly one to consider with a price that not only can't be beat, but others don't even come close to (Jeez, even the Crate V30 cab is $699!!!!). I haven't tried it side by side with other V30 cabs to see any slight tonal differences between the Legacy, Marshall, Mesa, but I have tried it side by side with the Marshall 1960A and 5150 and this beats them hands down. I am extremely pleased with the Legacy cab and I am happy (as is my checkbook) that I chose this over the Marshall and Mesa. No regrets and no complaints. This is a great sounding cab.
