Pretty basic, yet versatile with an open back or closed bacck feature I initially was not too sure about, but it is 'bomproof'.

Sound Quality : 10
Using it primarily with a EJ strat with Dimarzio 61/58/58 virtual pups and the carvin V3 head. For the V3 head this cab is excellent. Comparing it toanother 2x12 with celetion 100watt 12's (Portcity) the Legacy blows it away. This cab with the v30's bring all the nuances of the v3 out with amazing clarity. I also have a PRS cutom 22, and a Jackson soloist with EMGs. So, form SRV to metal and everyhting in between, the legacy blows a way a cab I paid twice the price for AND allows the V3 to shine in all it's splendor.

I only wrote this because reviews are helpful and damaging. The one bad reviewer made me hesitate then I began to consider my experience with carvin gear and it was very inconsistant with what i know of them.
In short, this cab costs way less than other 'ported' or big name ones, however, it is the choice for me and would be again if stolen. In fact, if I can find someone interested in my portcity 2x12, I will get a 2nd Legacy!

I dont know the year but im assuming its late 90's or early 2000's. Simple to use. I was going to get the 4x12 but I refuse to lug that around since its over 100lbs. this isnt the lightest either around 50lbs, but heck its lighter than my rack gear, lol. I also like the ability to open it up in the back which lets the speakers breathe a bit more and gives a overall slightly warmer tone.

Sound Quality : 10
I use various ibanez and jacksons pushing thru a ENGL preamp into a 80/80 tube works power amp with various EQ's/comps/gates/BBE's in the middle. the sound? Unbelievable, loud with no breakup, sustain for days and the feedback is crisp. a lot of people complain about the lack of lows but mine thumps just enough for it to not be to the point of farting out.if your looking for a cab to deliver that low tuned 7 sting sound, these arnt for you. Where these speakers really shine are the mids and highs, they match every harmonic I can get out of my guitars with perfection. And it was because of this im sure steve chose them and why I love them as well.

Reliability : 9
the 1 thing i can complain about it, is the crappy jack in the back, at least on mine, is always loose, this isnt a major thing though and a little loctite can fix that right up. as far as I know, all the cabs steve brought around the world are stock (eccept for that cool huge vairoglyph cutout he sticks on em), and if they can take that abuse night after night day after day, well, thats proof right there and another reason why I got one. it is made out of plywood which tends to be much stronger than actual wood, with just a small sacrifice in overall tone.

Customer Support : No Opinion
never delt with them

Overall Rating : 9
overall, if your looking for a great sounding cab that you can take all over the place, and that isnt to expensive, look no further. I actually might try to get 1 more to have some stereo fun!.

Bought in late 2004. Wanted the convenience of lighter, smaller pieces of gear as opposed to a 2x12 combo amp or 4x12 half-stack. Sounds great with the type of music I play, which is a variety of guitar rock from 70's hard rock to grunge to blues. It's a one-trick pony; one jack, 8 ohms, but that's not a disadvantage in a cab I think. I use this in my spare bedroom for practice, and I intend to use it when I start playing out, though I may get a second cab and plug them both into my amp head. I use this with a Marshall JCM900.

Sound Quality : 10
I have an old Korean-made Strat ripoff. There is no superfluous noise from the cab (though there's a great deal from my cheap single coil PUPs). The cab seems to produce any kind of sound I want it to. It just sounds great...warm & clean when I want, plus handles all the gain my JCM900 can throw at it. When I'm going wild during practice, I'll have my gain at 10 and my master vol at 5 on either my clean or lead channel, and although that's loud enough to hear down the block thru my walls, the cab still sounds great.

Reliability : 7
Although I have had no problems with reliability, I haven't toted it around very much yet. The grill in front of the speakers is substantial. The cab was finished well, NO missing screws or messed up Tolex like one of the other reviews. The cab does seem a litte lightweight to me for a piece of road gear...I think it uses 1/2" plywood, and I expected 3/4". I wouldn't hesitate to stack another 2x12 cab and head on top, but I wouldn't want to see anybody standing on it. I would pay extra for a sturdier, heavier cab with the same speakers if they made it.

Customer Support : No Opinion
I have not dealt with support at Carvin because I've had no trouble, but in my opinion their telephone sales are top-notch. The guys on the phones really know what they're doing. In fact, I just spent $1230 today on a new DC727 7-string custom guitar from Carvin.

Overall Rating : 9
I've been playing for 35 years. I've owned Peavey and Marshall amps, and a variety of crappy guitars. If this cab were stolen, I would first double-check alternative 2x12 cabs with Vintage 30s to see if I could find a reliable brand with 3/4" plywood at a comparable price...but I did that before buying this cab and ended up selecting Carvin. I would not hesitate to buy Carvin in general.

2x12 extension speaker cabinet, mono, no stereo hook-up. Also, Carvin only sells the 16 ohm vintage 30's which makes the cabinet a 8 ohm, only. Limited in my opinion if your using a head such as a Marshall, which you can drive at 4 ohm (two 8 ohm speakers) but matter of taste. Much better response from the amp driving the speakers. Light poplar plywood used for the cabinet.

Sound Quality : 2
Various Fender Stratocasters. Stock pick-ups and Dimarzio single coil humbuckers. The vintage 30's are great sounding for various musical styles, can't go wrong with these speakers. Would go with 8 ohm vintage 30's instead of the 16 ohm which again Carvin only sells. The speakers get a ten but the cabinet gets a two due to basic design and construction and various flaws on two seperate cabinets.

Reliability : 2
The cabinet is built like a very low end piece of equipment. I ordered one from Carvin and the screws where the bottom piece would attach were completely missing the wood they were supposed to be attached to. Also, the tolex was not tight fitting at all and would last me about three gigs. Carvin sent another cabinet after I told them about this defective one and they sent another. The second one they sent had the same defects only worse. Screws completely missing wood joints and this time the tolex on the front corner was completely off and the bare wood was showing through. Appeared to be a floor/demo unit they sent the second time. Needless to say, I sent this one back and said no thanks to a third they wanted to send me. If they can't get it right by now, forget it.

Customer Support : 2
Customer service at Carvin, well let me say it took well over a month for them to get there cabinets back and still had no credit on my account. Long hold times and short tempered folks for a customer service dept. I expect them to take the lead on the call not the caller. Still waiting for my credit but no worries. Just buy on a credit card and you'll have options.

Overall Rating : 2
Paying full retail price for a piece of gear, I expect it to at least meet bare minimums of being good quality. For the price of this cabinet you can find much better well built cabinets out there. Not where I will be putting my money. I have never dealt with Carvin before and had high hopes for this Legacy cabinet but no thanks after dealing with them.

Features : 10
Bought new in 2004
Not many features, 2 Celestion V30 speakers. Covers hard rock,Metal, classic and everything inbetween. The only thing I wish it had is stero hookup but I can live without it.
I use it for home practice and smaller gigs with my 50 watt Marshall head where space is a issue and my Marshall 4x12 is not a option. Actully one feature that is great and very useful is it can be a open or closed bact cab which is a exellent option to have in a cab.

Sound Quality : 10
The sound is very crispy & crunchy using distortions and the cleans are nice and sparkley.
I play mostly harder rock and some metal in a cover band, stuff like AC/DC, Aerosmith, Van Halen and newer stuff like Weezer, # Doors Down Lit, Etc... and it handles them all with ease.
It handles the 50 Watt head very well at low and high volumes with no "Fartin out" from the celestions

Reliability : 10
It has been said before but this cab is built like a Brick S%^T House and I would use it without a backup if I had to but that is never a good idea (Murpy's Law) I have not had it long enough for it to break down but the constuction leads me to believe it will last me a very long time.

Customer Support : 10
I was impressed with the customer service but found it hard to track my order after I placed it. The web site needs to be updated, however after I E-Mailed them wandering about the status of the order they called me that day to let me know it had been shipped. I have dealed with them before and returned a amp and effects proccesor and it was hassle free and was credited very quickly.
I give a 9 here only because you can't track the progress of the order like Musicians friend for example.

Overall Rating : 9
I have been playing for 25 years and use the Legacy with my Marshall DSL 50 watt head and my 91 Les Paul standard, Gibson Explorer 76, Hamer USA Custom with few effects wah, overdrive, delay.
If it were lost or stolen I would buy another because they work great and the price is the best out there. I compared it to the Marshall and Genz Beny 2x12's but after some research went with the Carvin. Why? I needed a smaller more moveable cab to haul around and the Genz is 62 Lbs and a monster for a 2x12 which is the exact reason I wanted the Carvin it is more portable weighing in at a smallish 40 lbs. The Marshall appaled me in terms of construction it would never last for my style of use. We all know the Carvin's are well priced, but at this point in my life I am not going to think twice about spending more money on a superior product but the Carvin just fit me better and if I save $150-$200 bucks on a cab I like the best that is just icing on the cake.
Those of you who always wandered about buying a Carvin (you know who you are)but were always afraid to buy sight unseen just try this cab you won't be sorry you did, and yes I was one of thode people too.

I'm currently using the legacy 4x12 with the v30s...I like the sound alot but some clubs just don't have the space, so I wanted a 2x12. I had to test the cab thru the Legacy head...the sound of the cab is good, I thinik it would be very good for a small club situation...The clean sound was very crisp and sparkly; the overdriven sound was also pretty clear...I was really pushing the speakers, the cones were moving a good deal and it still was not breaking apart.

I did not buy one. In the end I just felt like the low end was not there and I was appalled at the connection of the speaker jack...not a very good tactile feel.

i bought this in used, but great shape, for 225. it's 350 new, which is much less than a particle board(crap)cab made by other companies. if you're a tone freak, you'll love it. if you love the extra that an ext. cab pushes, you'll love it. i'd suggest to check out carvin if you have not already- they endorse a wide variety of performers, and their stuff is quality, made in usa, for very affordable prices. trust me, this stuff can take a beating.

I have had great service from Carvin. I 1st tried the other 2x12 but prefered the Legacy, receipt in hand I exchanged it without hassle. ;) Once I bought a used Carvin Fet 900. It worked well, then one day about 1 week B4 a gig the Transformer blew. I ran it down to Carvin & asked them if I could get it fixed B4 the gig. They said it would be a little extra for the rush order. Fine. They Fixed it, UPGRADED IT, & put rack handles which it never had! Good guys, They get a 10+ & as long as their service is great. I will ALWAYS deal with them & recomend dealing with them. So far I've brought them plenty of bussines.

2x12" Celestion Vintage 30's in a closed back cab with metal grille. Single input jack on back. Says 16 Ohms right on the back of the speaker. I suppose it would be nice to have more than one impedance setting to choose from as an added feature.

Sound Quality : 10
I play a Gibson Les Paul Classic through a '67 Fender Bandmaster head (blackface AB763 circuit) into this cab. I also use a TS9 (w/808 mod) for overdrive distortion at low volumes and/or solo boost. I can't say enough about these speakers with this setup...I can get the amp to break up beautifully with the volume set as low as 4 or 5 and no pedal. The distortion I get, with or without the TS9, is PURE TONE HEAVEN...I can't say enough about how great these speakers sound when breaking up. I can also play clean if I want simply by employing less pick attack...can play clean up to 5 or 6 (loud enough for small hall) with same result...sweet, sweet tone.

Reliability : 9
Only bought this cab (used) a few months ago. However, construction appears to be VERY solid...would expect this cab to last me the next 30 years.

I've been playing guitar for 25 years now. I have played some small bar gigs and outdoor parties but do not consider myself a pro. I am absolutely in love with both the clean and distorted sounds I can get out of this cab in conjunction with my Les Paul and the Bandmaster head. For the price I paid, this has got to be one of the best deals around.

2 12" Celestion Vintage 30s in a closed back cabinet. It's pretty basic and it's been covered, pretty much. The front is metal, not grill cloth, so it's very distinctive looking.

I wish I could change impendence with a switch and/or make it stereo. (It's single input mono from the factory.) I've considered installing a switch, but just haven't gotten around to it.

I currently use this with a JCM2000 DSL401. It's a great cabinet for using with that amp. I'm going to move it to my JCM800 4010, though, and get a different cab for the DSL.

It gets a 8 for features. It'd get a 10 with dual inputs and/or impedence switch.

Sound Quality : 9
It's got fantastic sound when coupled with a quality amp. We play mostly classic rock and some more modern rock. It gives body to the JCM2000 that it's lacking (the stock Marshall/Celestion Heritage isn't so great). It makes the JCM800 sound even warmer to me.

It's set for 120W max (2 x 60watt speaker), so it's more than enough for what I want.

Reliability : 10
It's pretty basic and built ruggedly. I don't foresee any problems arising with it.

Customer Support : 10
Carvin shipped me this cabinet accidentally. I ordered the Ve212 British Back loaded cab. There's about $140 difference between the two. They decided since it was their mistake that I got to keep the cabinet for the price of the VE212. That seemed pretty generous to me. Other interactions wtih Carvin sales and support were extremely well handled. They know what they are talking about and truly seem to care about helping the customer out. They are second only to Marshall (not KorgUSA, but Marshall!) in being customer oriented and helpful.

Overall Rating : 9
I've been playing for about 15 years, though only seriously for the past 10 or so. I've got a 90 Les Paul Standard and a 98 Les Paul Special SL for electric guitars, a Takamine 12 string acoustic, and a pair of Marshall amps (a JCM2000 DSL401 and a JCM800 4010). This cabinet feels like it belongs with the rest of my gear. I had considered Marshall cabinets, but Carvin had great products for much lower prices. It's quality stuff and I'm considering buying either another Legacy cabinet or a closeout VE212 with British Backs. It's worth looking at the Carvin gear...don't pass it by.

Sound Quality : 10
Amazing sound! I was almost considering getting the legacy head after hearing my jcm dsl head clean up through it, but I'm pretty attached to my marshall. This is an awesome little cab. I was playing a 4x12 marshall with gt 75's but it was harsh sounding and very bulky to lug around. This cab lets my amp shine in a broader range of music styles. My amp breaks up earlier now and I don't have to turn it way up to get a good distortion sound, and when I actually do turn it up it absolutely crushes. I could say it's all my amp but the difference between this and the marshall cab is night and day.

Well built.

Awesome. I wish buying everything was as easy as this was. To top it off it's the best cab I've played through beating marshall hands down(sorry) and more articulate than mesa at less than half the price. I know I must sound like an advertisement but vintage 30's in a well constructed maple cab for only 329 + shipping? Seems too good to be true.

I have two of these. Both were made in 1999. Features covered adequately in prior reviews, so no need repeating. The one feature I would like is the ability to adjust the ohms instead of being stuck at 8 ohms.

Sound Quality : 10
Your signal really is only as good as your weakest link. You can't stress enough how important it is to have great speakers as part of your rig. Great guitar, great pickups, great amp: none matter if your speakers turn your signal to mud. Too many people miss the importance of the speakers. If you're using these, your speakers definitely are not your weak link.

I play a variety of styles including oldies from the 60s and 70s, 80s new wave, power pop and punk. No jazz or country. I dabble in other material, but 99% of what I play is one of the 4 styles I mentioned above. I've got both humbucker and single coil guitars, as well as both semi-hollow and solid body guitars. I use a bunch of different amps - solid state and tube - depending on the sound I am looking for.

These speakers handle overdriven signals beautifully: nice harmonics, good clarity and fantastic note definition. They also make any clean signal shine. In my 20+ years of playing, these are the best sounding and most versatile speakers I have ever heard. Putting them into a 2 X 12 cabinet means I can setup without risking a disc herniation. (A 4 X 12 cab with these speakers would sound even better, but it would be just too bulky and heavy).

NO MATTER WHAT I AM PLAYING, MY CELESTION-EQUIPPED CARVIN LEGACY CABINETS ARE THE KEY TO GREAT SOUND.

Reliability : 10
Speaker cabinets are a pretty simple product. If they are well built, they should last for quite a while. Carvin has always struck me as being fairly well put together gear, so I am confident in the quality of my cabs.

I play live running both of these out of the same amp, so there is no backup. I'll probably pick up a third one of these soon so I can have a backup for that "just in case" inevitable eventuality.

Customer Support : No Opinion
Never needed it. The idea is never to have to use it.

Overall Rating : 9
Been playing 20+ years and have a commplete arsenal of guitars and amps. I was looking for 4 X 12 sound qualities in a lighter package. Before buying these, I looked at and played other 2 X 12 and 4 X 12 cabs.

If lost or stolen, I would replace them immediately with another Carvin 2 X 12 Legacy cabinet.

These are great sounding cabs! Whatever guitar and amp combination I play is always run through these cabs...no exceptions. I highly recommend them to anyone who is looking to improve the sound quality they are getting out of their combo amp with stock speakers or who is looking for great speakers to deliver the best possible sounds out of their amp head.

This cab was made in 2001. All the new cabs come with Celestion Vintage 30's x 2. One speaker jack so it's a mono cab. Black Tolex covering and a black metal grill protecting the speakers.

Sound Quality : 10
This dude can really crank! I play my 15 watt Fender Pro Jr. through it with a Mesa Boogie V-Twin preamp pedal. My guitars ard a '78 Fender Strat w/ Duncan "Hot Rails" and 5 position switch, and a Carvin AC 175 Acoustic Electric (cool guitar w/ great sound and action). The cab makes my little amp sound like a monster! I am really happy with the tone. Nice smooth distortion and tone. I prefer the "open back" sound, so I take off the removable back (8 wood screws) to get that sound. I plan to get a Rivera Rake 55 head to go with this cab soon. I bet it will sound even better.

Reliability : 8
This thing is built like a tank. Not much to go wrong. My only gripe is the cheesy plastic carrying handle. I've only picked the cab up a half dozen times so far and the handle is showing intense wear already. Might need a new handle soon. Every else is cool. I think the cab is rated at 8 ohms, and like I mentioned before it's a mono cab.

Customer Support : 8
When I went to pick up the cab, the Carvin store only had the demo in stock. I was bummed, but they offered to let me keep the demo until a brand new cab came in from the factory. Two weeks later (today) I picked it up. Generally Carvin has been pretty good about exchanging stuff. I also bought a Carvin tuner about a year ago. The tuner was terrible. I took it back and they refunded my money on the spot and apologized. That was pretty cool.

I've been playing guitar for about 25 years. I've mostly had combo amps before. But I am really enjoying the extra "air" you can push with one of these cabs. I play worship in church and occassional solo gigs. This cab really does the trick for me. I play rock/alternative/folk/worship and the cab has a nice quality whether I am playing my Fender Strat, or my Carvin Acoustic/Electric. Really nice cab. Excellent value if you are looking to buy a 212 cab (w/ Vintage 30's!)

This is a great sounding 2-12 cab. 2-12 green backs. Can sound like a 4-12 closed back or an open back. It will make any combo amp sound much better. I have tried it with a Trademark 60 and a Fender delux and a Marshall 100w superlead/w an attenuator. Not quite a 4-12 greenback cab but .....almost with much less back strain....

Reliability : No Opinion

The folks at Carvin are very friendly and helpful...but they got my order screwed up and werte not that knowledgeable on some minor things....Like does the cover fit ...or is it a cover that is used for the amp which is taller...they said ..you may have to tuck the bottom under...Anyway, the cover fit perfectly.

Played with my Trainwreck Express the Legacy Extension 2x12 cab sounds excellent. The Celestion speakers really shine in this cab. These speakers really like to be pushed. Clean tones are open, warm and clear. Cranked tones are tight, thick and focused. This cab never sounds "boxy",distant, or congested. Different player tried the set up with various guitars (Strat-style, Les Paul, and PRS) and everyone agreed that both open and closed back modes sounded great (the final set-up would be the choice of the particular player). I chose closed back with the cabinet standing up.
I took the cab out to a gig this week and everyone (on stage and in the audience) agreed that cab sounded excellent; sound dispersion was excellent and the tone was clear, warm, punchy.

My Set-Up: PRS Custom or Fralin loaded Strat Copy
Vox Reissue Wah
Arion Chorus
George L Cables
Trainwreck Express (EL34s)
Airbrake (power attenuator)
Carvin/Legacy 2x12 Extension Cab

Note: lead tones were achieved by cranking the amp into the attenuator and then pushing the speaker (output distortion+speaker break-up)

Reliability : 10
This cabinet is built really well. A friend who does a lot of wood work said the construction was solid and well done. The only problem I can forsee is maybe blowing the speakers by pushing them too hard (which would be my fault). But I love the sound of running my amp/speaker set-up on the "edge" :-)

When ordering this cabinet the sales/tech support person on the line was very helpful and a pleasure to deal with. The best. I had alot of questions which were promptly answered. I'm normally hesitant about phone ordering but this transaction was the smoothest. Friends of mine who have dealt with Carvin in the past told me that that's how they treat all their customers.

My favorite cabinet of all time is an old 4x12 Marshall (straight front) loaded with 25 watt Pre-Rola Greenback Celestions. But it's not a very practical cab to bring to most gigs (space limitations and weight). The Carvin 2x12 is a great practical gigging cab. Light, compact, and sounds great. This cabinet is the best deal around.
