The hardware has already been well described except that it will mount on a pole stand, and the very nice diamond-shaped cut steel grill over the front, superior to the "chicken wire" grill on my Yamaha speakers. I was a little dissapointed to find only one handle; it's heavy enough to deserve two. I would rather the jacks were somewhere other than their current location, where the second handle should be.

It's most important feature in mid-2003 is that you can't buy it new from Carvin anymore. It had already been discontinued once, and brought back. Now apparently Carvin has realized that this cabinet does too many things well for their own good and has made it the basis of multiple combo amps. They do still have the RL210 which looks identical except that it uses a square cabinet. The RC210 is the MP with a bass amp built in. The KB210 is the keyboard combo amp version. It's too bad it's discontinued; for someone with that already has a mixer and power amps this cab can be used for bass, keyboards, acoustic guitars, as a vocal monitor or a PA mains speaker.

Pros: incredible versatility.
Cons: a little tippy when used forward; missing one handle; unfortunate jack placement; a little large and heavy compared to, say, a single 12" floor monitor.

Sound Quality : 8
I use this cab with a Carvin DC1000 power amp, a Samson SCOM-4 compressor, a Tech-21 SansAmp Acoustic DI and a beat-up Fender Precision bass. I go for very round open tones and turn the horn way down but this cab would be fine for any style. I've never pushed it hard enough to distort.

Reliability : 9
Bought new in 2002 on clearance so it hasn't been around long, but would definitely trust it on the road.

I've ordered from Carvin twice, no problems, good packing. The front grill looks bulletproof and the cabinet and it's covering seems flawless.

Overall Rating : 10
If you need one cab that can do multiple jobs this thing is the cat's ass; floor monitor, keyboards, small bass cab, acoustic guitar; I can imagine putting it up on a either a pole stand or tilt stand and using it as a single main for an acoustic coffeehouse gig instead of a regular PA speaker. It currently sits in my home studio, well loved, ready for any job I throw at it.

This speaker enclosure features 2 10 inch heavy duty speakers and one high Freq horn in a tuned and ported enclosure. It isn't bi-amp ready, but it has a nice crossover built in that also has a level control for the high freq. horn level.

I needed the cabinet because we're playing some gigs in some smaller places and I wanted something that would take up less space on stage and be smaller and easier to haul around than my normal Ampeg 4x10.

It is wedge shaped, so it can be used either standing on end(my intention) or set up as a monitor wedge at the front of the stage. Carvin compromised a little bit in this area in that the jackplate is mounted on the end oposite of the handle, so I have to set it up with the handle down and the jackplate straight up, it works, my head sits on top without covering the jackplate.

It can also be mounted on a stand if you desire.

Right now the power amp I'm using(Ampeg SVP 1500) puts a TON of power into the cabinet that's only rated at 400 max continuous watts, but I take it easy on it, so I think it'll be ok.

We play mostly pop/rock with a little bit of blues. I don't do much if any slap and pop, just finger style bass.

Sound Quality : 9
I use the cabinet in my bass rig which consists of an Ampeg SVP-Pro preamp, SVP-1500 power amp and ART Tube Levalar compressor. The tones I go for are fat and not as clean as most guys use with quite a bit of harmonic distortion, a little fuzzy, but not farting either, mostly under control with alot of response to playing style and dynamics. This cabinet handles this well, I leave the high freq. driver on it's lowest setting, just to brighten the sound the slightest bit, the bass I use (Carvin LB-90) is pretty bright on it's own, so I don't need much.

Remember, I got this thing to use in smaller venues, so it's not as loud as my Ampeg 4x10 batmobile style cab, but it puts out clean sound to a pretty high level. I don't think it's as efficient as my other cabinet, but I've got enough power that's not a problem, I do think that for best results you should have a pretty large amp even though the cabinet is small.

Right out of the box this cabinet sounds VERY impressive, it's not very big, but it puts out a nice full sound, better than I expected, I though there would be more of a compromise esspecially in the lower register, but it does a great job. I think you might be pushing it with a 5 string, but it handles a low "D" on my bass solidly enough.

The wattage rating of this cabinet is 400watts and I'm using 1500 in my rig, so I could push it and probably hurt something, but I'm using it on small band jobs, so that shouldn't be an issue.

I removed the jackplate and looked inside, the construction, wiring and overall layout looks very nice in there with heavy duty wiring and connections. The crossover is nice too, the PC board and jacks are all heavy duty, but I'm not so sure about the rotary selector switch for the horn, might be a little flimsy, but I guess it's ok.

Carvin covers their cabinets in what they call Duratuff. It's their version of Ozite and they did an excellent job on the covering, fit and finish on the cabinet.

I ordered from the Carvin website wich is easy. They have lots of information on there to help you get what you need. I've had a Carvin bass for the last 15 years and I've had no problems, but in the past when I've called them for info, they were always very helpful.

Overall Rating : 9
Overall the cabinet is better than I expected esspecially for the price. I like the overall quality both construction and soundwise and I would buy one again if I ever lost this one.

My cabinet is the monitor version of their 2x10 bass guitar cabinet, it's the same except that the rear corner is cut off so you can set it on an angle if you want to.

It looks so nice right now, I wise I would have bought a cover for the enclosure.

I've been playing for about 20 years and like I said earlier I needed a smaller cabinet for gigging in smaller venues and I would have bought one of these a long time ago had I know it would sound as good as it does.

Same features as the reviewer below stated. 4 ohms, 400 watts handling capacity, can handle spikes of 800 watts. Thats a lot of power handling for a 2x10.

Sound Quality : 10
I use this as a bass cab, which was Carvin's main intention for it. I use a Stingray, a Yamaha Attitude Anniversary, a Fender Mexi P-Bass, and a MIM Deluxe Active Jazz Bass. As you could probably already tell I like a variety of basses which I use for a variety of applications. I play EVERYTHING, well except country...I run an Ampeg SVT III Pro into this cab and it produces exactly what I want, all of the time. As Bass Player magazine stated, this is truly a versatile cab that is great for any genre. The sound is crystal clear, I was dead set on buying an SWR 2x10 until I played this. The Carvin has the exact same horn and the cab sounds exactly the same. I couldn't justify paying more than twice as much for a cab that sounded so similar. If you want a 2x10 and don't feel like paying for overpriced crap that yeilds no better sound go with this little gem.

Reliability : 9
I have no worries here.

Customer Support : 5
Carvin has fast & rude customer service. I guess they deserve a 5 for being good and bad at the same time.

Overall Rating : 10
I've been playing bass for 7 years and guitar for 2. I own all kinds of gear that I don't really feel like listing..If this was stolen I'd simply buy another one, no doubt about it. I love the price and performance of this cab. Same sound as an SWR, same box as a Bag End at a fraction of the price. I hear that Carvin doesn't make these anymore, thats a shame, buy one if you can find one you won't be disappointed.

2 X 10" monitor speaker, 4 ohms, with horn tweeter. A 40 lb. slot loaded cabinet with tilt back cut for use as floor monitor or pole stand hole in bottom for use as "main". Has two 1/4" jack labled input and Ext. system, and adjustable horn pad knob on the side. I use it mostly as a Bass guitar speaker but sometimes as a vocal monitor. made in USA. Built in heavy duty handle on one end, covered in blk carpet.

Sound Quality : 10
rated at up to 400 watts this speaker is great sounding for Bass or vocals. Covers the full range of sound, clean, clear, unclouded sound. I use in with a Gallen-Kruger 1001RB bass amp (540 watts) or a Crown PS2 power amp in the PA set up. I think this speaker could be used for almost any instrument, Bass, guitar, keyboards, vocals in fact would make a great cabinet for digital drums.
Very open and full/round sound.

Reliability : 10
Great, no problems. Have used it very regularly for over two years.
See review in Bass Player Mag.

I'm on the east coast, Carvin is on the west coast, this could be difficult. So far no need for service, but if it needed a repair I could call for the part and fix it myself.

Overall Rating : 10
I like this speaker a lot. It is very versitile I have considered buying a second one but it is 4 ohms and most Bass amps will only drive two 8 ohm speakers. I love the sound for both bass & vocals, I wish the cabinet was a bit smaller/lighter. But I'm sure 40 lbs is not that much compared with many PA speakers. Overall a great piece that does a Fantistic job for the money, excellent value.
