I used it in a 212 closed back with a RM100KH, RM50 head, Marshall GRCD100 head and a Crate G40C combo with a Boss ME-70 running thru it. I personally didn't like the tone at all, I didnt try it with an open back cab but I'm sure it wouldn't of been that much better. For me its sounded thin a just not crisp. It gets a 7 cause it sounded good but not as good as the stock ceramic magnet speakers that came with my Crate V212B cab.

The one's I tried we probably from the 1980's, it was in good shape and celestions last forever so I cant see this being any different

Never used, I get all my speakers from Avatar now and I can see them being a problem to deal with but Ive never dealt with Celestion directly.

I wouldn't buy these again, just didnt do it for me. Ive got a quad of G12 30's and they sounded much better to me and I got all 4 of them new for $65. Theres a reason G12T 75's are selling for $15-$20 on ebay these days. I paid $30 each for mine, I got my money back. they're better then a lot of speakers out there but not the best Celestions I've ever heard.

This speaker definitely likes to be driven hard. Since these are mainly sold in Marshall stack style cabinets, I am sure that is what celestion had in mind.
At low levels they do tend to be less agressive sounding and a little "spiky" in the treble region, or as Roger Waters would say, "toppy".
You can "age" the speaker (similar to what Hellatone does) to break-in the cone and this will take some of the brightness out of the cone, or you can do it the old fashioned way by playing the things for years.
I use a Marshall cab and a 50 watt Marshall "Plexi" head from the 1960's and these speakers stay clean at full output. The cones do not "break-up" like the greenbacks would in this application, so the overdrive tone is all power tube roar! This helps with single note definition (I like the definition).
If you want the greenback cone distortion, then you will need an amp that can overdrive the speaker cone to distort.

Celestion 12T-75 16ohm. I have both the early models stamped rating of 15ohm (though really 16's), and I have the recent stuff stamped at 16ohm.

The earlier models sound a little better to me, as it has a little more definition. However, I really like both. This speaker is best suited for high gain stuff. Moreover, they are well suited for today's contemporary sounds (i.e. Metallica, Korn, Alice in Chains). These speakers have somewhat of a "scooped" type of sound, as they don't have a whole lot of midrange. They have really nice tight and punchy bass tones with nice brightness. These speakers sound best when cranked! At low volumes, they send a little flat. This is a great Metal and Hard Rock speaker, period. If you are looking for a bluesier type of sound, I'd go with the Vintage 30's. The 30's are nice too (not for Metal), but they have a looser bottom end with a TON of midrange.

If you play today's metal, go with the 12T-75's. If you are looking for a 60's type of sound, the Vintage 30's are a better choice. I use the 75's for a contemporary metal rhythm, but use the V30's (with a lot of EQ) for Van Halen type of leads.
