The Gold sounds awesome. Although I've been playing over 30 years...I haven't tried everything...not by a long shot. For many years I've been very happy with the Celestion Vintage30's. So let me compare: The Gold sounds like a much 'prettier' Vintage30. The lows really stick out...very nice and well defined. The overall sound is fabulous. This is the best speaker I've ever played...or heard in anyone elses cabinet. I've got mine in a 1 x 12 open back and the tone and frequency response and note definition is amazing.

I luv this Celestion Gold...I don't want to hear my guitar thru anything else anymore. Is it the best...? I dunno. I'm not an expert who has played everything. All I can say is that I luv'd my Vintage30 speakers...until I plugged in the Gold. Congrats Celestion...and if I'm not mistaken...the late Ken Fischer helped them develop it. The Gold makes a fantastic sound.

This alnico 50W speaker is very versatile.
I use it with 2 amps :
- Fender Hot Rod Deluxe 1*12 combo (2 Tung Sol 6L6) (1* 8 ohmn)
- 2*12 cab with a Marshall JVM205 head (2* 16 ohm)
In the HRD, the magnet is close to to V3 pream tube (I had to remove the bell), but it works very well
I play blues, rock, pop and jazz

I play with Strats (Kinman pickup and Bare Knuckle Irish tour, Yamaha SG1000 with Gibson '57 pickup ans Ibanez AF105F NT)
With the HRD I use a Fulltone OCD overdrive and a Xotic RC Booster for boost and crunch
With the Marshall, I do not use pedals, this amp is very versatile.
This speaker is fantastic for any kind of music and has a very nice signature, the same on the two amps, something smooth, nice medium, very nice definition even at low volume.
The clean is excellent, well defined, nice and strong bass and treble, sweet medium, with all type of guitars (single, hambucker pickup)
In crunch mode, it is very warm, sweet, well defined.
In drive, very nice harmonics, well defined and always this sound signature

This is the best speaker I have never own, it is fantastic in a 1*12" combo and in a 2*12 cab.
Any type of guitar works very well with it, the sound is rich, deep, warm, well defined and this on clean and drive mode.
I do not play with hight gain setting but for clean, crunch and drive mode, it is excellent.
I recommend it, even if you consider the price, this is a speaker you can keep really for a long time.

50 watt, 8 ohm Alnico speaker. Using it in a Laney LC30--a 30-watt EL84 single-speaker tube amp (not Vox), with guitars having various single coil and Filtertron-type pickups. Strings 10-46.

This is THE speaker. I play mostly clean, with a little hair or crunch. I like chime and jangle. This speaker replaces a 30-watt Weber Alnico Blue Dog. The problem with the Blue Dog was that the high-E string just wasn't shining through. The speaker and amp combo were too loud in the lower mids for my taste. The B and G strings rang through but the high E was left behind, with not enough upper frequency to give it decent volume.
The Celestion Gold accentuates that upper mid frequency that puts the high E string on center stage. It's sweet with a slight amount of overdrive to make that string stand out. The bass and lower mid's are well balanced. I guess it's similar to the sound of a Vox with Celestion Blues. It makes all my guitars sound great, and is a perfect match for the amp.

You may think this speaker is expensive, but I have spent far more money trying to get a decent sound out of cheaper speakers. Now I have a closet full of unused speakers. Save yourself the time, money and frustration. Bite the bullet and buy this speaker. You won't be disappointed.

Sound quality? Its the reason I bought one. Its clear, with fantastic note definition, tone is there. Treble mids and bass are balanced. Compared to the cab I was using, Marshall 4x10, its like a mattress or baffle was removed from the front. Everything is there.
This is the speaker for jazz, blues, country and rock. Not for metal. I play a PRS Custom 24 and a Strat. They both sound fantastic.

I have been playing for 30+ years. I play a PRS custom 24 and a Fender Strat. Amp is a Epi Valve Junior and clone Trainwreck Express.
(my own build). If this speaker is lost or stolen I would replace it. The sound from this speaker has inspired me to be a better player. Its just that great a speaker.

8 or 16ohm 50 watt alnco speaker. I'm currently using it w/ a Hellatone G12H30 in a 2x12 germino cab. I'm playing through a Mojave Peacemaker w/ a Hughes & Kettner tube factor as my only effects. My guitar is a Hamer Korina Standard w/ a SD EVH pu set.

I've been tweaking and refining my sound for a while since I got my Mojave...which is pretty much my dream amp...cab, speakers, tubes, pups, etc. The tones I like best are early EVH, AC/DC, Montrose, Hendrix, etc, although with the tube factor I can get into "modded Marshall" territory no problem. I've had a Germino 2x12 cab for a while and I swapped the EVMs I had put in there w/ Hellatone G12H30s, b/c they suited my Mojave a lot better. I had heard a 4x12 w/ 2 Alnico Blues and 2 G12H30s in an X pattern, and I was pretty blown away with the sound. It was chimey and sweet but still full and chunky with plenty of tightness in the low-end. My only gripe is that I wanted a little more headroom and a later break-up than what the Blues had to offer. After replacing one of the G12H30s, I was suprised that that I really didn't loose that much bass response. IMHO, the Gold has better bass response than the G12M, and the overall balance and tonal quality is phenomenal. It just has a sweetness and chime in the highs that is never biting and a warm fullness in the mids that doesn't loose deffinition even with the gain up. If you play high gain, palm-muted stuff, this might mot be your cup of tea, but for everything short of metal, this speaker just slays...I love this speaker...esp. in this combination. If your a diehard G12M guy, give this setup a try; it is truly the best of both worlds!

I've only had a month so it's just now getting broken in; sounded good out of the box, but like most speakers, it needs a week or two to loosen up a bit.

Got it from Avatar speakers. I've never had to deal directly with Celestion, but Dave is the heat...super cool guy and really knowledgable. I knew if there was anything wrong with it, Dave would make it right.

Here's my only gripe; this speaker is insanely, absolutely, rediculously over-priced. As much as I love it and I do, there is just no way any speaker should cost this much. I got a really good deal on it from Avatar, but still $280.00 for a speaker is just plain nuts. As good as this speaker is, I'm only giving it an 8 b/c for this price it had better sound amazing.

I switched out the Celestion Black Shadow 90's in my Lone Star Speacial 2x12 with these babies. The difference is amazing. The cleans are cleaner rather than a mild muffled or muddy sound and the strings are sensitive, almost like it is alive! The axe breaths!!Distortion only makes it better. See my review on the Lone Star Special for the amp specifics.
I use a LP Supreme and a Tacoma accoustic. Getting a 335 type axe. With the LP it becomes a part of the sound and opens up new and exciting possibilities. For the Tacoma it just plays. You don't notice the difference until you unplug. Then it's like its flat you can only hear the richness of this guitar through the amp.

So far so good. No indications of a problem, but my amp maxes @ 35 watts. With 2 50 watt speakers I do not expect a problem.

I'm a bedroom player who's been at this for 4 years now. I have a Les Paul Supreme and a Tacoma EKK 19 a Koa mini jumbo accoustic. In the process of getting an Eastman 335 knock off in solid maple.
If these were lost or stolen I woulod track down the thief and extract justice, revenge, and payment in full. Then I would buy these speakers again. They are the best that I've heard for the sound I strive for.

Tried a couple speakers with this one. Fender,Vintage 30 vs the Gold.
The V-30 is cutting when overdriven which is fun at times. The Gold rounds out the edges so it is smoother and clearer. Sustain sounds pure. Clean channel sounds bright and clear yet smooth as well. This is a great speaker!! This is a speaker you could always have with you and be happy..... I do not approve of the price!! if these could sell in the $100's....then I'd be happier.

PLaying for many years, I play cause i love to . And my band loves it too..... If your amp is crap or your tubes shot these may not be the fix. But if your gear is in order and you want to add cream to your coffee then buys these or tone tubbys and be happy.
I give a ( 9 ) cause of this crazy price! But alnico tone tubbys are the same.....and i don't like it.....but the speakers are GREAT no dought about it. I am going to add a tone tubby ceramic in an extension cab for bigger gigs. and more depth.
