This is NOT a V30. It was designed around the V30 platform so to speak but is different. For one it has a paper dust cap not a "screen" like the V30.I recieved info on them from the source-(see below) It sounds different-better to my ears. Ive always found the "mid hump" in the V30's to sound annoying. These relic 30's dont have the "mid hump". They are however very dark speakers and are great for high gain amps. Big lows and mids, smooth highs. They de-fizzed" my Peavey Ultra 112!
I got this from the Noth American Celestion sales manager-
"They are similiar in a lot of ways to a V30, yet still different (voice coil, etc.). They are a limited limited edition speaker that we did and may introduce to the line. This is not a "for sure", but something that we have discussed as the feedback has been really good. At under $50, they are a steal and I have been suggesting them to a lot of people who like the V30's, but who want less mid spike (which the V30's are known for). I'm glad you're digging them. Enjoy!!"

I play experimental noise/punk so I like the idea of innovation. I was at a yard sale last year and saw an old PA cabinet, it had two horrible generic 12in. speakers inside but it looked cool and was well built, so I paid 10$ for it and stuck it in my garage.
- over the summer I decided to re-invent my sound- so i rebuilt all my gear, I switched my tubes from 6L6s to EL34s, I scrapped my old burstbuckers for new Duncans, and I sold my huge cabinet and pulled that PA speaker out of the garage - I went to GC and saw the Relic 30s...( I used to have a Mesa Rectifier 4x12 cabinet which had 4 Celestion Vintage 30s) - not only were the Relic 30s the exact same speakers as the Vintage 30s, and they were HALF THE PRICE !!! I bought two and installed them myself. The 2x12 setup was just as loud as the 4x12 setup !!- needless to say, they sounded unbelievable!! -the clean channel was rich and clear with bottomless reverb, the dirty was just as obscene and aggressive as
with the Mesa cab !! - I think GC and Celestian are pulling a fast one on us !!

YES !!! I believe the GC Celestian RELIC 30s and the Celestian VINTAGE 30s are the same speaker !!!

I havent had a problem, but I think returning these to GC would be alot easier than trying to return them to Celestian.

I think this a trend with alot of big companies - consumers are offered the same products with different labels, so we get caught up in the NAME-BRAND thing !
I knew when the GC Relic 30 had Celestian on them what was going on.

12" 16ohm speackers with 50oz , Replaced Stock 12" AVT50watt Marshall Speaker , The Speaker has been compared to the Vintage 30 , Yet 60 watts on the Sticker , Several Sources from GC and Celestion state this was a GC special promo deal but cannot confirm that GC will have them if they run out
They Brought the amp to life , also using 2 of them in a 4x12 Like the 2061cx Marshall using a 1987x Plexi 50 watt head , The amp is very loud , yet the Speakers stay clean up to 4-5 , they really don't start to brak up until both volume knobs hit the 8-9 range , by then the Amp is knocking pictures off the wall and the old lady is freaking out

The Speaker has been compared to the Vintage 30 not because of the specs but because the way they are sounding at the Clean level and the dirt levels
Using both Les Paul with 498T/490R PUPs and a Fender 60's strat with JB1 jr.
The amp does the job staying clean up to 6 , but after that Dirt city and a really nice sounding distortion , Using an MXR distortion + and a cry baby Wah , I really can get the 70 old school sound ,
I also have a Mesa Boogie .50cal+ and the speakers seem to hang with that amp too

30+ years off and on , Professionally , More sound engineering looking for ways to create a great Tone without Blowing 4-600 bucks on Speakers , If you can get the same sound from 50 speakers with a different label , then Mission accomplished , anyone can go buy 200 speakers , but why ? save the moola for more guitars

Manufactered by Celestion for Guitar Center. A 12", 16 Ohm, 60 Watt, 100 db, 50 Oz. Ceramic Magnet Speaker with frequency response to 5000 Hz and 90 Hz resonance. Pretty standard Celestion specs except for the 90 Hz resonance. I bought two of these for a budget 212 Cab project. I got the above info from Celestion via the GC tech line but it is not published anywhere. Very little data available but they have variously been compared to Vintage 30's and G12H's or a cross between them. I gave it a 9 because it had the features I needed - 12", 16 Ohm.

I plugged my Les Paul in and cranked out some Back In Black. Very well defined tones. Blues licks work well too. Still breaking them in. Speaker sound evaluation is like tasting wine. Do you really taste cherry or apple or oak? If you like it you buy it. The whole package (speakers in the 212 cab) sounded fine to me. I give the speakers an 8 because I'll concede that there are better sounding Celestions out there.

Just installed them last week. I beat them as hard as I can without disturbing the neighbors. They seem to be holding up well so far. I don't gig but they appear to be built very well.

I've been playing for two years after a long layoff. Mostly acoustics before. I'm using a Vox VR-15 into the 212 cab and these speakers really wake up the Vox tone especially the bass. If lost, I would replace them again. But, I don't like the fact that Celestion and GC have been playing it close to the vest regarding data and characteristics. Could they really be relabeled Vintage 30's and Celestion is reluctant to admit it in order not to alienate those who paid twice as much for them? In the big picture it would be nice to have a spec sheet but so long as they sound good I'm satisfied.
