80 Watt, 31 ounce magnet. Made in China. These speakers need to have every other mounting pillar removed from Fender amps as genuine 70's vintage Fender speakers have twice as many mounting holes.

Sound Quality : 10
I bought these to replace tired old Jensens in my Quad reverb. 16 ohms each at a total load of 4 ohms. What I like about the big Fender tube amps is the clean sound. I wanted to keep that and promote it. The 70/80's do that in spades.

If I want crunch, or any other EQ sound, I get that from pedals, I don't play as loud as a 100watt Marshall stack so I go for clean, and
reliable.

What I don't understand is why they're so inexpensive... $150 or so to completely replace 30 year old speakers is pretty good. I guess that if they were made in England, they'd be a lot more.

Reliability : 10
No Concern with Celestions that are properly rated for the amp you use.

No need, probably ever.. well until the cones shred from age :-)

Overall Rating : 10
I rate them an excellent buy if you need to keep your sound clear and clean. You certainly can't beat the price, but you CAN buy more expensive Celestions, what you gain in an amp like mine I don't know... but I don't need to know that, I'm completely satisfied with my sounds.

My one fault with Celestions in general is that they have too many speakers to choose from. In the 60 to 80 watt (each) category, they have six or more models with very similar freq response curves. Selecting one can be daunting. IMO, at the price of a set of 70/80's
you can't go wrong, unless you want to be on the hairy edge of cone meltdown and drive the lower wattage speakers real hard.

But if you want clean... these do it in spades.

I don't think it has any features, you just bolt it in and go with what it puts out.

Sound Quality : 8
The higher end Celestions are better, but I have heard far worse. This would be a good upgrade for cheaper amps like an old Peavey you got at a yard sale and don't want to dump a lot of money into. It does classic rock or blues tones very well. Not really clean enough to be a really good country speaker, but passable there also. It might tame a rough sounding solid state amp a bit as it is balanced a bit on the warm side of neutral. A bit less efficient than the high end Celestion speakers. That would be a good thing for a practice amp.

Reliability : 8
Depends on how hard you drive it. I think it's rated at 60 watts, but I wouldn't try any more than 50 watts.

It was a pullout from a tube amp that got an upgrade to a premium Celestion speaker. This would be a great speaker for an old solid state Peavey or Crate amp that needs some taming in the harshness department and you don't need ear bleeding volume. Cheapskates should be on the lookout for these speakers when they don't want to drop $100 or more for a high end Celestion speaker. This speaker went into an old Peavey 1x12 solid state combo amp, and improved the sound noticeably by warming it up and taking out some of the solid state hash. This is a fantastic value at the low price and should be reliable in the long run. I hear that Avatar speakers has this and other Celestions at great prices. The G12H80 or G12H30 is even better if you can afford it, but they might let solid state hash come through more as they are more extended in the highs.

Mine is a 70/80 that I bought from Avatar speakers a couple of months ago (Oct. 04).
12", 8 ohm, 30 oz magnet. It's all on the celestion website.

Sound Quality : 7
I am using a Les Paul (epiphone with Seymore duncans) a USA fender telecaster and an old ibanez shredder with DiMarzios.

The speaker has a decent overall sound. It gets enough bass (I built a big open back cabinet for it and it really resonates) and has pretty solid highs. However, it has very little presence when compared to my friend's lead 80. In a head to head competition, the lead 80 sounds much more present and forward. I was pretty surprised because I thought my 70/80 sounded pretty good, but it was very distant sounding and not as articulate as the lead.

Recently I added on of the Vox celestion bulldog speakers (also from Avatar ($39)) and it has really brought the sound forward. The 70/80 is great for low/midbass and bass sound. It is also respectable for highs, but it is not articulate at all compared to the lead and vox speakers.

Avatar speakers seem like a good company. They ship professionally and have answered my questions.

Overall Rating : 8
overall, it will do the job, but it's probably best to pair it with something that has a little more forward presence and stronger mids.

Does everything well except very heavy bass styles.

Sound Quality : 9
I replaced mine with a G12H80 Celestion, and it suits me better. However, the Seventy 80 is still a nice speaker and is very smooth in character with great mids and highs. Would probably work better in a closed cab lik ea Randall. My Traynor YCV40 has an open back and doesn't work well with a speaker like this for generating really deep bass. The lighter magnet and shorter voice coil of the Seventy 80 makes it more midrange oriented. It has a nice upper chime, so it might suit Rickenbacker players. Really good for a midline speaker.

Reliability : 10
The 80 watt rating guarantees dependability in any combo of 50 watts or less. Remember, most tube amps put out well in excess of their power rating when heavily distorted.

Overall Rating : 9
This came in my Traynor YCV40, and that amp is a great value so I expect this speaker gives good value for the money or it wouldn't be in that amp. However, several Celestion speakers would be considerable upgrades depending on your style. Go to the Watford Valves website as they have a good review of all modern Celestion speakers they sell. As long as deep, tight bass is not your trip, no real need to upgrade in my opinion.........but I like to shake the floor.

Newer addition to the Celestion line I think made somewhere other than England to keep cost down.80 watts either 8 or 16 ohm with 30 oz magnet comes stock in new Traynor and Randall amps.Half the price of a Vintage 30 with Classic tone.

Sound Quality : 10
This is just a great all around speaker that does everything but heavy bass tones well.It is a little bright with solid bass, great mids and the best highs of the many Celestions I have used.I replaced a V30 in my Fender Deluxe with this because of the pretty highs and chime this speaker has.Sounds like my Jensen C12n only with better upper mids and overdrives much smoother which seems to be the hallmark of all Celestions.98 db sens so plenty loud,I think as loud as the Jensen or more with great mids too.

Reliability : 10
Never,I repeat never blown a Celestion especially one with an 80 watt rating.

Customer Support : 10
I get fast emails from Dr Decible at Celestion.

Overall Rating : 10
This is a great speaker that does distortion and highs as good as I have heard. Not for Heavy,Heavy Recto bass though,More of a Classic Rock tone.A bargain at the price!
