i bought the g1200H full stack new from musicians friend, i wasnt using the best guitar with it, but even with my friends prs, schecter, jacksons this thingss sounded like crap. there was nothing that stood out on the amp at all. it was very quiet, my friend would over power me greatly through his ibanez tone blaster cab and marshal head. my recomendation do not buy it, the foot switch it came with fell apart after a week. save up, you get what you pay for and an 800$ full stack is not a full stack

A basic crate gl1200h except it doesnt have the built in tuner and no back light but who cares!!it does come with a cd input which ill never use anyway!this amp is great for heavy rock and heavy metal and if you fiddled enough can get a nice marshall style crunch and this amp is a great gigging amp! i love but it may not be great for evryone!

This head is really useful for a range of styles. With 3 channels( gain 1,2 and clean) you have a couple options for sound. The built in tuner is a great idea and the backlighting is pretty sweet. There are 16 built in effects and you can set them to a specific channel which is remembered by the head, also pretty handy.

Right now i'm using a Jackson DXMG with EMG pickups and a Crate 4x12 1/2 stack and this setup is great for Danzig, Pantera, Sepultura type music. If you need a deeper sound you might choose another head or do what i did and get a crunch/deep bass pedal. Low or high volume this thing sounds awesome but its a bit of o pain since 2 channels share one volume/gain. The clean is nice and crisp and the gain 1 is great for soloing although i use the gain 2 for both solo/rythym

I've been playing for about 15 years and have mostly played acoustic. i've played my Ovation 6/12 doubleneck, fender scorpion and a couple ibanez acoustics through this amp along with the jackson and they all sound great. if it were stolen i think i might save the extra 300 needed for a marshall mosfet but for a package deal of 600 for the head and the cab brand spanking new i aint complaining.

I like the built in effects, I use the built in for the chorus and reverb, and my delay pedal for delay. That way 2 of my settings are always ready to go, don't have to reset. I do wish the eq's were not the same for both gain channels. (Gain 1 and Gain 2 share the same low and high eq.) I like the shape control. It works great for me at high volumes, and I love the tones I get. I mostly play metal such as old Metallica, Slayer, etc.

I play several guitars through it. Fender strat, BC Rich, Jackson, and an Ibanez. The Ibanez sounds like crap, but it's the stock pickups, not the amp. The others sound pretty darn good. I play mostly metal, but it does get some good "blues" distortion tones too. I haven't used the clean channel at high volumes yet. The distortion is very good for my metal.

It's built SOLID! I would NEVER gig without a back-up, that just doesn't make good sense to me to many things beyond my control could happen. I have NEVER had a problem at all with it.

I have been playing seriously for about a year. Have owned guitars for about 10 years.
I would buy it again if mine were stolen.
I love the tone. I hate the size of the head...looks funny. to small. I chose this because of the price on got on it and a cab (package deal). I wish it had a separate low and high eq for BOTH gain channels.
Overall, you cannot go wrong with this amp. I love it.

The idea behind this head wasn't bad: a dirty channel split into two with a shape knob, a clean channel, three-band eq, and reverb. If it worked long enough for me to use to any length, I may have enjoyed it.

For my ears, and for the ten minutes that the amp actually worked, the dirty sound was just this side of suck. Lots of gain, but very brittle. The clean solid state sound was okay, and the reverb was okay in small doses; too much and neighborhood cats started yowling.

I bought it used from a guy who had it serviced at Crate for a blown transformer. It lasted TEN MINUTES! The gain was on 4 as well as the master volume when the whole thing went up. As soon as I get it serviced again, I'm selling it off to some sucker, even if I only get enough for a six pack. DO NOT BUY one of these. Read from the others who said that it was junk. If I had before I bought it, I never would have.

While I've yet to deal with them personally (and I will), the fact that it was serviced by them, only to blow up again should say something either about the quality of the service, or the quality of the materials. You decide which is at fault. I know I have. All I can hope for is that I'll only pay as much to service it as I can get for it used, cause the warranty went up after a year.

I've been playing for over twenty years. I've always known Crate as a company that made crappy amps. This doesn't change my opinion one iota. Save your money. Buy something on layaway. Hunt down a Sovtek, or Marshall MOSFET, Randall, KMD, Beringer, Yamaha, silverface Fenders, any of these could be in a similar price range if you hunt. Buy anything but this. It had potential, if only it was made of something other than crap. The only reason that I bought it was to help a friend out who had financial trouble. Just dial S for sucker!

I bought one of these from guitar center because it was on sale for $300. It has three chanels, gain 1, gain 2, and clean. When jamming with my band, my drummer drowned me out every time he hit the cymbols... It sucked. Sound volume is good for jamming by yourself or with another guitar or bass, but not loud enough to match a hard hitting drummer.

I play an Ibanez RG270B with stock pickups and an Ampeg 412 cab. I play mostly hardcore punk rock with metal solo's and this head was very good sounding at low volume, but once you turned the volume up past 5 it was EXTREMELY noisy and had this wierd feedback. The gain 2 distortion was pretty brutal if you like metal sounds. The gain 1 distortion is only good if you turn the amp all the way up. The clean sounds were decent.

I've been playing guitar for about 5 years and just traded in this crate for a new Marshall AVT150H. I probably wouldn't buy this head again unless I was broke. It was a pretty nice head for the money.

I currently have the best luck with my Jackson Dr-3 with the bridge dd103n and dd103b pick ups esp mh300 also works hell and wails nicely, it suits styles from the ACDC to the shredders to the dark ones all i can say is old school metal is pretty fine on this. It is not noisy unless you adjust it to be that way, variety wise you can pull of classical, blues, rock and metal. However on the clean channel on high volumes it can be a little bit distorted espescially when the high is past 4. The distortoin i have have a bit of a problem you can do alot but its difficult at times to get your own distinct sound but all and all its pretty brutal

This amp sounds great for Pantera and very sterile "scooped mid" metal styles. No, it does NOT sound good for KoRn, Tool, RATM, Limp, or any other mid/bass rich band. It's all preference. The clean sounds great for the $$. Reverbs are decent, no Fender Twin, but useable.
