I do think the amp was made in the mid-1980's. I don'e know why they call it "160" maybe it is a 1-12 inch speaker, 60 watt amp, thus 160?Not bad for $40. used. Suitable for blues not death metal, unless you use a lot of outboard distortion, as the amp has "overdrive" only. 2 channels, switchable. Plenty of power. Nice effects loop included. 4 ohm speaker.

Sound Quality : 5
I used the super strats and strats and it is good. I like the SRV position on the 5 way switch with this amp.

Reliability : 10
Crate amps are reliable. Durable. This amp has to be, if it is 20 years old and still cranking. I think I am the 10th owner.

Customer Support : 3
Manuals should not cost 20 bucks. I wish there was a database to get pics and manuals.

Overall Rating : 8
I've been playing 20 years. I have owned countless guitars, effects, amps and I love to find great deals like this. I like cleaning up the amps and effects. Very enjoyable to think how old some of this stuff is.

bought new in early 1984. solid-state combo 60 watts rms @ 4 ohms. single 12" speaker. gain, bass, mid, treb, OD gain & level, bright switch, master & reverb. also has effects loop & footswitchable OD & reverb. made in USA. this was before the days of onboard digital effects so for its day it was well equipped.

Sound Quality : 5
i've owned it 19 yrs & have ran many, many guitars through it. EXTREMELY loud for 60 watts. can easily shake the room. it's clean channel sounds decent enough with very little distortion at high volume. unfotunately, it has the same characteristics as all solid-state combos (especially from the mid 80's): no tone. dont get me wrong, clean it has nice bottom end and somewhat nice trebles but its bland, bland, bland. did i mention it's bland? the OD channel is basically unusable unless you like sterle buzz-like noise. stomp boxes were pretty much the norm when i used this amp regularly. i've heard worse (clean) and i've heard better (dirty) so i'll compromise & rate it a 5.

Reliability : 10
this is the main reason i still have it. 19 yrs of garage bands, basement bands, wild party gigs and friends using and abusing it & it still works perfectly. save for the original speaker (which the amp actually smoked after about a year) and the input jack that broke after it got knocked over. the damn thing just wont die! i mainly use it now just as backup but its basically been retired.

Customer Support : No Opinion

Overall Rating : 8
this amp has been with me almost the whole time i've played so i am kind of attached (not to the tone, though). if it were stolen i'd mourn it's loss but then use that excuse to buy something else. after all we all NEED a backup, dont we? i currently use behringer for a main amp & for practice i switch between a fender & epi. the new crates of today offer much more in features and power than this one but its cool to look back & see just how far amps have come over the last 20 yrs or so. its sound may leave something to be desired but considering the dependability factor i'll give it a solid 8.
