This amp is dated 1980 and I've had it for about a year. It is solid state amp, and it features one channel with a gain knob, treble, midrange, and bass controls, and reverb. It has a "brite" switch, and the midrange eq has a "midrange analyzer" which seems to add more high or low to the midrange. It has a nice Celestation 12" speaker

I use this amp and home, and it has enough power for practice or gigs at a small venue.

Sound Quality : 8
This amp sounds great! It's got the clearest cleans I've heard from a solid state amp. The gain is very usable, though it may not suit metal without pedals. By fiddling with the eq, you can get almost any sound you want. I first used it with high treble and bass with low midrange. Very attention getting. I currently play with the midrange at 8 and high and low at about 4 or so, and it's nice and warm sounding.

I've played this amp with humbuckers and P90's and it all sounds great.

When I bought the amp secondhand (thirdhand) the reverb tank was missing, but for $18, I've put in a new Accutronic tank and I'm back in business. The spring reverb has enough presence to be heard, but it's very tasteful. It sounds much better than a digital reverb pedal. Because of its age, it has very noisy pots, but that could easily be cleaned if I ever get around to it.

Customer Support : No Opinion
I haven't used Crate's customer support, so no opinion here.

I've been playing three years, and this amp is the best solid state unit I've used. I play solid body guitars, and the amp sounds great with humbuckers, strat single coils and P90's.

With the solid wood cabinet, this amp looks as nice as grandma's kitchen table, but unfortunately, it's every bit as heavy.

I got this amp from a pawn shop in 1998 for $50 with a bad speaker and it was quite shabby. I repaired the Celestion Speaker which only had a pigtail problem and cleaned up the cabinet which is now beautiful. Though I need to shed some amps, I will be hard pressed to let this one go. It is soo punchy and crisp and powerful. The outputs on the rear are great for effects and or feeding the sound system we use. I play mostly classic country.

I don't use any distortion as I play old country(It wasn't there)so I don't miss distortion on it. This amp gives great distortionLESS sound at high volumes which I like. It does not however handle my Pedal steel well at high volumes(not many do)

Reliability : 8
The reverb has intermitently quit and restarts by itself. Suspect a solid state problem ther but not serious enough to put on the bench.
Other than that no problems.

I have dealt with St Louis Music for years and they are superb in service to me. They seem to have plenty of field locations as well.

Been playing for 48 years(professionally many of those years). I would not replace it if stolen because I'm sheding my electrics for acoustics(love the Dobro). Only problem I can recall is that it is a little hard to keep mint because of the wood (must be treated w/lots of TLC

I was told by Crate that this amp was built in 1981. It is 40 watts of solid state power. Beautiful stained wood crate case, almost like furniture. Hi & Lo Inputs. Gain, Treble, Frequency, Mid, Bass, Reverb, Master & "Brite" & Power Switch. Fitted with a 12" Celestion G12-80 15 ohm speaker. Back Panel has Ex. Speaker jack, Line Out jack, Line In jack, Footswitch jack for the Reverb. This amp is quite loud and very hard to beleive it is only 40 watts. Its got a ton of kick for its size. Great sounding distortion when you pump up the gain! Plenty of power for Clubs!

Sound Quality : 10
You really can get many sounds out of this amp. I think it is actually quite versatile. It will go anywhere from a smooth warm tube sound all the way to an awesome late 70's punk sound.

Whe I got this amp it was in need of a major cleaning. All is function perfectly after all the posts ahd a nice bath. Still the reverb tank is dead. I have not opened it up to see the problem. My guess is it just is shorted out.

I called crate the answered my call very quickly and were very helpful. I was even told that I can still get a new reverb tank directly from them!

Very nice powerful little amp. Looks great in the living room. The wife likes it because it looks like an antique with its great stained wooden case. If you find one buy iy this is a rare hidden treasure in older solid state amps.
