late 90s early 2000's.... this amp suits any style of music. I play Rock, Jazz, Metal, and even classical, but it is guaranteed to fit any style. It has 16 amp mods, 16 efx, and 10 channels. The only thing wrong w/ this amp that is not even a problem is that u need 2 chords to connect the cab to the head (1 for left speakers + 1 for right speakers). THIS AMP IS LOUD!!!!

Sound Quality : 9
This amp makes just about any sound you want it too. The clean channel is good at high volumes if you dont apply gain. The distortion ranges from very light, to rock, to hard rock, to metal, to death metal. The distortion gets mad brutal too. I use my Jackson Kelly KE-3 with EMGs (81 + 85). It is not noisy besides the feedback...(not buzz!!!) when at high distortion volumes.

Reliability : 9
Too me if it lasts 5+ years and its never broken and ive never had to use the warranty.. thats a hell of an amp. But my casters need to be replaced... but they still work.

Customer Support : No Opinion
Never dealt with them.

Ive been playing for 5 years. I own many other guitars including a Gibson les paul, a rickenbacker and other guitars. If this were stolen(good luck stealing this) or lost(good luck losing this) i would get another one. I love the whole amp. I hate the casters. I would buy this over a Mesa Boogie Triple Rectifier. It has the same sound(if not better?) And it has effects and 10 channels. It would be nice if it was all tube.

16 Amp simulations (JCM 800, Dual Rectifier, AC30, Blue Voodoo, Mark II, HiWatt and more), 16 Digital effects (Chorus, Flange, Compression, Echo, Rotary, and multi), 10 Channels, Pretty loud solid state 100 Watts @ 8 ohms (50 per side), bought with matching 8/16 ohms stereo cab, Hi/Lo Inputs, Effects Loop

Sound Quality : 9
I'm using a custom Ibanez RG with V7/V8/S1 stock pickups and an American Standard Fender Strat with stock pickups. As for the amp models, the clean is cleaner than clean at any volume, it just takes a bit of EQ-ing and some compression (built in) to get there. Most of the amp models come reasonably close to their real-life counterparts. The AC30, HiWatt, Plexi, Bassman, Deluxe 5E3 and JCM 800 patches are exceptional. The JCM 800 is my favorite, nailing perfectly that early Smashing Pumpkins sound. With the Deluxe cranked up you can get that fat, grinding Neil Young tone (listen to Hey Hey, My My). Everything played through the HiWatt sounds like some lost track from a Who record. The Plexi doesn't have as much gain as I think it should, but the 60's Bluesbreaker sound is there. The amp models four Crate amps as well, but these patches are far inferior to the others. The rectifier model is also poor. It feeds back endlessly, through both the RG and the Strat, and lacks volume and character. The JCM 800 and Deluxe are a bit noisy with humbuckers, but feed back very little with singles. LOTS of EQ work and compression are often necessary to obtain a controllable distorted sound, but once you know how to tame it a little bit, this amp can sound like ANYTHING.

A word or two about the effects. There's 16 and i use about 4. Both the vibrato and tremolo are AWESOME. They sound a little digital, but nothing I can't get over. The chorus is decent, but i'll stick to my Boss. I never use a flanger, but if I did, it wouldn't be this one. The delay and echo are very dry and digital sounding, not to impressive here. The compressor works great, but adds some unwelcome hum, but you can set it for each channel individually, which is easier than turning knobs on a floor box every time you switch channels or sounds. The multi-effects make the sound unintelligable and are difficult to tweak. The reverb on this amp, however, is GREAT! I have never heard solid state reverb this warm sounding. It even has 2 (count 'em TWO!) control knobs to get just what you want.

My only really big complaint about sound is the extreme amount of noise that occurs when I run my pedals through the front end of the amp. I have not yet found a way to run my board (Creamy Dreamer, TS-9, Vox Reissue Wah) through the front end without experiencing a squeal like none I've ever heard before. The effects loop is a bit disappointing as well. It needs a volume switch, or knob or something. Whenever i use my old Boss chorus, small stone, or delay, the sound becomes almost overwhelemed by the effect, it's like sending the signal 100% dry and getting a 200% wet signal back.

I play in an alternative band, so from this beast I get almost every sound I'm looking for. This amp completely KILLS Line 6's Flextone in terms of sound quality. However, if high gain is not your thing, or you use lots of stomp boxes, you may want to look elsewhere. Its a great amp, just needs some tweakin'. Anybody who's lookin at the new DX212's, beware: they dont have nearly the bass response this does, and this is probably cheaper used. I give it a 9.

Reliability : 7
Reliability with the amp has never been a problem, but the footswitch has. I have the 5-button foot controller and have had serious problems with it. Sometimes, while I'm playing it would just completely stop working. It did this several times to me during a recording session (studio time is expensive!), after which I took it to a music store and had it sent off. It works ok now though *phew*. Due to my poor footswitch experience, I doubt I would ever gig with this amp at all (I just dont trust the MIDI), but it's a GREAT recording tool, much more natural sounding than a POD. I give it 7.

Customer Support : 10
Dealer dealt with Crate, service was fairly fast. 10.

Overall Rating : 9
If my DX100 were stolen, I probably wouldn't buy another one, partly because they don't make them, and I would just find a JCM 900. However, it's a great amp, especially for recording. I've gigged it a few times, and it's plenty loud, and its matching cab sounds perfect with it. My favorite part about the amp is its complete tonal CLARITY at high volumes, something the Line 6 lacks. I just wish the inputs and effects loop were nicer to my stomp boxes. But for 600 bucks, I can deal with it.

Mine is a first 2k issue. 16 amp mods/ 16 effects/combinations. No channel switch like on the Johnson 150 or 250 but not needed on this diddy. The amp mods are good and close to the originals. Contains fx loop. High gain/ Low gain inputs (cool with an a/b box). Full midi and a place to put a foot controller to flip through sets. Features stereo 50w X 50w (R X L). An overall kick'n machine. I bought it for a channel distortion though my a/b box which was a great idea. The cleans with a Muff Pi on it thumps and gives you a hell of a punch. Very versatile because you can mod it where you want it (every knob has a direct effect to the sound) Store it and keep it the EXACT as you saved it. Unlike the Johnson I had, Marquis120 (junk!!) I'm switching distortion song to song and the ten saves is plenty.

Sound Quality : 10
I'm running a Les Paul gothic/ Epiphone Sheraton II/ Schecter gold top 7string/ and get this a Gibson CL 20 (transducer) acoustic and it sounds great with all. I have a Boss AC-2 but this amp's acoustic setting is awsome. Clean, I use a Hughes and Kettner Votex but played with this and frankly I don't want to use the cleans because the distortions to hot. The noise factor is an issue with me. I bypass almost every pedal I have for a direct connection (excpt whammy/wha/vol) and it statics like hell, (I don't switch it off distortion). I turn it off during "potty breaks". However I bought it for distortion that rips ass and I have that.

Reliability : 10
Anyone who deals crate's are cool. Some have set up some of my axes for free and done some fix it stuff for me free too. I don't see how this amp is going to be any different. A+ I'm not worried about breaking it.

Customer Support : 8
I've consulted the company on the noise gate, they said it is on slightly to keep it from squeeling like a horny pig when not playing and have the dist. on full boar. However, upgrading is a pain in the ass, I don't like midi, I don't have the expensive cable, and my internet connection doesn't get any better than 28k (I'm a hick). However, where isn't there a crate dealer. I was looking at a boogie or H&K triamp but there is a huge price difference.

Overall Rating : 10
I've been playing for about six years, I've owned a lot of junk, I've owned a lot of really good stuff and I'm not afraid to put a 1. I really like this amp. If I get set into doing music as a one and only profession I will probably switch to a triple rectifier or triamp but until then, no. If you are debating between a line 6, this amp beats it by far, I haven't posted a review on it because it wasn't worth it, it's junk. All Johnsons are junk except for the millenium (bro has one). They are good practice amps and thats about it. I got the matching 412 too. I have to admit I was leary on buying a crate because they always appeared cheap to me but I've had a cr-160 forever 2channel 1X12 and still us it, crates suprise me everytime I play them. When I decided to change to heads and cabs it was on the debate Votex or DX. Now, three months later I have both and let me tell you those two amps are a hell of a set up and I recomend these amps. The DX isn't a push over at all. You can get it way cheaper than an Elite amp (Laney, Hiwatt, Mesa/ Boogie, or Vintage P.O.S.) and you won't be disappointed!

All digital head! This thing was amazing, I made a special pilgrimage to a music store an hour away just because they were the only place within 90 miles that had it! It can emulate tons aof different amps, and the fact that it's all digital..well that pretty much says enough. It can emulate just about any sound out there. I have played it through 300 W Ampeg and fender cabinets, it sounds great through anything

Sound Quality : 10
I use a Samick strat clone (I started on this piece of s***) and it sounds..well dirty through the head but that's to be expected. The constant noise of single coils cannot be avoided. as soon as you start playing, it sounds good though. I also have an Ibanez JS100, which shreds on the amp. Like i said, you an play anything. I like Opera , Jazz, Classical, Metal, Bluegrass. This amp can do it all and make it sound SWEET. Even the mesa-boogie emulation sounds authentic. Sounds like its coming right from the metallica boys themselves.

only had it a couple weeks.

i've been playing 4 years. I've gone to music stores alot just to jam around (ok, I admit it), and this unit is HOT.Whether you want the heavy metal crunch or the melodic twang its all there. If anything happened to it, after i was done mourning, I'd sell a kidney and get another one

1999 Crate digital Modeling head. awesome sound. this is the best of the Digital amps I've ever heard. lots of cool effects, lots of amp settings, and no speaker fartage(if you use the right cab). Killer crunch. too much to say about this amp.

Sound Quality : 10
I use an Ibanez RG550 with a Gibson tony iommi humbucker and a BC rich mockingbird with a duncan invader. I play a very aggressive style of music that requires alot of effect changes and channel changes. perfect amp with a midi controller. I can store up to 100 presets and not worry. I love this amp.

Reliability : 10
Hasn't sh*tted out on me yet.
