great features for an amp of this price, three channels built in tuner, built in DSP with channel tracking. And man, does this thing have some volume to it!!!

Sound Quality : 5
Sound Quality is ok on the clean channel using a distortion pedal (in my case a Digitech Metal Master or Tone Driver), I play several guitars with different kinds of pickups and I always can get my sound dialed in quickly.
The two overdrive channels just flat out suck, never use them.
The DSP level is very noisy, lots of hum no matter which effect is used. the only way to eliminate the hum is turn the dsp level to 0.
but what do you expect for under 100$

Reliability : 2
This is my second one in five months, on the first one the dsp didn't work, Brought it back and got another one. Here I am five months later and the clean channel decided to die, so now its off to a service center.

Customer Support : 1
Don't even bother they are a waste of time

Overall Rating : 1
Been playing 20 years, just bought this as an amp to have at the house where I dont need a full stack.
Would NOT buy a Crate product again, you get what you pay for

Amp is fantastic for classic rock. It has 3 channels; 2 distortion and 1 clean. The clean channel and one distortion channel are superb; the other distortion channel is average. Distortion has lots of crunch and versatile enough to play everything from Ted Nugent and AC/DC to Joe Walsh and the Eagles. It has 120 watts of power and it is extremely loud. I play this in a small studio in my basement and it is so loud that I cannot go above 2 on it or I will blow my windows out. Definitely loud enough to play any venue with. Effects are decent. Reverb, Rotary, chorus, doubler and flange are very good. The wah is not so great. But who cares, this amp really rocks. It is solid state but I would put it up against nearly any tube amp any day.

Sound Quality : 10
I play a Gibson Les Paul Special; a Squier Strat and a Kramer Telecaster copy and they all sound great out of this amp. Very little feedback compared to my old Marshall. The amp sounds fantastic on distortion and very heavy. The clean is superb as well.

Reliability : No Opinion
Can't say becuase I don't have it very long. But so far, so good.

Customer Support : No Opinion
Can't say because I haven't needed support.

Overall Rating : 10
Fantastic amp which is worthy of basement playing or concert hall playing. I wouldn't hesitate to play Madison Square Garden with this baby!!! I have been since age 12 and I'm 37 years old, so if my math is correct, 25 years as a classic rock guitarist. If it were lost or stolen, I would cry like a baby and then make swiss cheese out of whoever stole it. This amp replaced an old 12 watt Marshall that I had, and this amp blows the Marshall out of the water. It's distortion is 10 times better than that of the Marshall. The reverb is very good as is the distortion and volume. The effects are pretty good too!!! Go out and buy it.

Relatively new amp, made in 03', '04? Has DSP, tuner, three channels etc. I play a wide range from soul funk groove, dead style to punk and early 60's rock (stones, The Who, etc) and indy. Keeps a good signal with fx going through main (only) imput. I use a crybabay wah, boss digital delay and a line 6 envelope (or q-tron). Use the amps distortion. I would say that this amp is in the middle of the road for sound quality. Ok cleans, pretty good distortion. Very LOUD. I wish you could adjust the parameters of the fx. They sound very cheesy and plain. The delays are stuck on there preset tempos with the only adustment being the level of the effect. Reverb does not sound warm at all. No fx loop. I got this amp from musicians friend. Would have got the blue label amp instead. The fx are a waste in my opinion. The graphics on the amp with the Red swirly thing (and 120 Watts! written on the front) looks very amature and embarassingly hokey. I bought this as a replacement for an older (First year made) 5150 head and Marshall JCM 800 cab that kills me dragging it to and fro rehearsals and shows. Good little amp to practice on and play venues when I don't feel like lugging around a half stack. I bought it for this sole purpose.

Sound Quality : 7
I play an American Deluxe tele, Les Paul and a vintage Epiphone Sheraton. The cleans are very crispy even at high volumes. Actually, anything past 3 or 4 is very loud. Not exactly warm, but very bright and versatile. The distortion has two channels. Dirty and Crunch. I found that it can have a very good range. Not as good as tube distortion, but very usable. I would prefer something a bit warmer, but it works for practices and recording. You can get anything from Metal to a pretty good overdrive blues type of sound. My mates are always telling me to turn down, so I know this amp is loud enough. Clean tones sound better when cranked up a bit, but it will peel the paint off of the walls. The highs are really crisp. Especially with the envelope filter. Ear peircing.

Reliability : 8
Never broken, but sometimes it seems as though the imput jack cuts out and starts to fart a bit. Could be a bad cord. Time will tell. Overall pretty reliable. Solid state amps are great for not having to worry about tubes and other related problems. Not too heavy (compared to a half stack its so lite) to drag around and fits in the back seat of my car. No need for casters. Hasn't had a problem in almost a year.

Customer Support : No Opinion
Haven't had to deal with Crate. Im sure they couldn't be worse then Fender.

Overall Rating : 7
I have been playing for around 15 years or so (Im now 27). I play a wide myriad of music from soul, funk, jam music to punk and classic rock to reggae. This amp is OK. It does it all good enough, but not fantastic. If you are a beginner or a Metal Shredder this amp will suit you perfectly. Makes a great little practice amp to drag around and beat up. Very loud. Distortion is definately the strong suit for this amp. Very thick and sustainable, but still a bit tinny. I play a Les Paul, American Delux Tele (S-1) and some thinline guitars. I won't get into details about Mods and all that, but I have a pretty good rig. This amp does not nessicarily bring out the greatness in my equipment but it is suitable and a little better than average in comparison to other amps in its class if you will. If it were stolen, I might replace it. I wish it had a functional fx loop and adjustable dsp parameters. It would look so much cooler if it didn't have all the cheesy graphics on the front (IE red swirls and 120 Watts! written on the badge). Not pro. Tuner is ok, but not highly accurate. Good amp for the money. Great for a relatively lite solid state two 12 amp that does it all well.

As far as I know, this amp was made in 2004 and the reason why there is not any info on the Crate web page is because this is a model exclusive to Musician's Friend. The closest model to compare with it would be the GLX212, or the same amp without the effects would be the also exclusive to MF XT120R.

The clean channel is not really prefect, but you can tweak some good sounds out of it. The 2 overdrive channels though are prefect.

The effects on here are not enough to make me want to toss my processor, but they can add a nice touch on top of what I have going

Sound Quality : 9
I play a 1978 Ibanez ST-50 guitar (with a SD Distortion Pro in the bridge, and SD PAF-59 in the Neck) into a Ibanez TS-9 pedal, into a Zoom GFX-8 into this amp. On the amps clean channels every tone of my pedlas cmoes out great, however it it too muddy for my tastes to mix the processors distorions with the the overdrive on this amp.

Sadly my apartments are located about a block from where 80% of the local radio stations broadcast from, so no matter what, ever guitar amp will pick up like KWOD 106.5 or 94.7, and that is something that even a noise reduction pedel can not fix. But when played at my friends houses you can tell that it is my locations problem, not any wiring of the amp's problem.

The effects sounds lave a little more to be desired, but some of them add nice touches. The "Shape" knob for the overall tone of the OD 2 channel is great with sounds ranging from Woman Tone to Drimebag growl.

Reliability : 10
It is a heavy, sturdy amp. When trying to carry it up my starcase (by the way it weighs 50 lbs) I lost footing and the amp fell. I was pissed thinking that I already may have broke my new amp, but it was a okay, without a scratch.

Yes I would use it at a gig without a backup

Customer Support : No Opinion

Overall Rating : 10
I have been playing for 12 years and have used my share of amps and guitars. I have now found my tone in Ibanez, Zoom and Crate. It works for me, and I will not use any other products.

While this amp is not the Blue Voodoo that i really wanted, for the money I had, it was perfect. It has more than enought power for larger venues, and I can see micing it into the PA would be fine for Madison Square Garden as well.

If this was stolen... I would be pissed, but at least the price is right for an amp this good

2003/2004 I am in the market for a gigworthy amp that is inexpensive. THis has plenty of features for the price.

Sound Quality : 9
I liked the sound. THe Clean was not CRYSTAL CLEAR CLEAN like a Line 6 (Spider 2) or a Fender, but it was respectably clean, even at high volume. The distortion was good. THe amp had crunch too. The FX were very impressive & you can always drag out your pedals too.

Reliability : 9
Trust this old hand. I have played Marshall (SS), Fender (Tube & SS), Behringer, Rogue (which I actually liked too)etc. Except for my Fender Super Reverb tube of yesteryear, and my current Rogue, I think that Marshall sucks as does Behringer. The Crate (store test) FXT 212 was nice....real nice

Features: 3 Channels, solid state, 3 Channel pedal, limited effects and my favorite: built in tuner. Effects are not that great but at least its something, if you figure that any decent pedal is between $50-$100 this is not a bad thing to have.

Although purchased in April 2004, warranty papers say "effective 1998", that coupled with the fact that Crate's website makes no mention of them I think they're just being re-introduced. Make no mistake this amp is no Fender or Marshall however I think that is a more versitile amp than those afformentioned brands at the same price range.

Sound Quality : 7
I use a Peavey Wolfgang Deluxe and play in a cover band. Styles vary from rock to pop and some metal. Again, this is no marshall distortion but its decent. My neck pick up sounds really sweet in the overdrive #2. The clean channel is great. The effects are the real drawback in this amp, they sound digital and do not much offer a great deal of options when it comes to tweaking. Basically you've got 3 options each in tempo of delay and reverb, and only a volume for the effect. I would prefer a effect control knob than a volume for the effect.

Reliability : 7
I've only had the amp for about 2 weeks however I know the Crate brand well I don't expect any problems. One thing I can attest to, which is a common mentioned problem in these ratings, the pedal sucks major a$$, it's so flimsy, I'm definetly saving my receipt so I can change it when it craps out which I'm sure it will.

Customer Support : No Opinion
Haven't dealt with them, but I expect to call them when my pedal craps out.

Overall Rating : 8
I've been playing for about 15 years and I did e x t e n s i v e research before settling on this amp. If I had to buy another one I would go with either a Marshall or Fender high end models. The reason that I settled on this amp was because I also own the PA in the band and I drive a sedan so I have to be frugal with both my $ and my space. I expect this amp to function adequetly. I am anal so I always.... ALWAYS gig with a backup regardless of brand. Remember that no matter what amp you play a power surge can lay waste to anything!

This is from Crate's newest line of amps, I think. It's got 120 watts of power, 2 Crate "Custom Designed" speakers, 3 channels, and a mess of effects... and also a 3 button footswitch. It also has an output to add a cab to it if you want more speakers and an "insert" jack for an effects loop (u need a Y cable. duh). Probably the neatest thing on this is the built in tuner. I haven't seen an amp in this price range with one.

Sound Quality : 8
I mainly use a Schector Omen 6, but sometimes my hotrodded Squier. I like to play pretty much everything: classic rock, blues, hard rock, punk, from lynard skynard to hendrix to metallica. I wanted an amp that was really versatile. I was originally goint to buy the XT120R because it has almost the same features (three channels) as this amp, but it's cheaper so it doesn't have effects. I got really lucky because the last XT120R at Guitar Center wasn't working so they gave me this for the sam price (i saved 50 bucks!!).
The Clean Channel is great. It has three knobs: high, low, and mid. It is nice and warm, a change from my old amp, a Fender Princeton65, which was brighter.
The first overdrive channel is good.It has 3 knobs: gain, high, and low. A mid knob wouldn't have been bad. It's great for warm overdriven tones that you'd want in blues and a lot of classic rock.
The second overdrive channel is louder and more distorted. I use it for playing lead and soloing. You can get a really sweet sound out of it that's smooth and warm. It has 4 knobs: gain, high, low, and shape (to add or scoop mids). If you want something really tight and crunchy, you may not be able to get it, at least I haven't been able to. If you play nu-metal or want a warm fat sound you might really like it. The only crappy thing about the overdrives is that their levels are controlled by the same knob. I'm a major control freak and like to have as many options as possible when it comes to my tone. What if I want an overdriven sound that's louder or the same lever as the distorted channel?
Luckily I have an incredible distortion pedal that I bought a few months before I bought this amp, so I use the distortions from this amp and/or my pedal as I see fit.
The effects are great. I don't use them that much. The only complaint about them is that if the effects level is up on the amp and u have them off on your footswitch, you can sometimes still hear them a bit. That's my only complaint. If your gonna add a feature, make sure it works man! I give this an 8 because it's pretty versatile, but has a few quirks in it.

Reliability : 9
This amp seems pretty dependable. Of course I would gig without a back up. It's a 2x12 for crying out loud. These things aren't supposed to crap out on you just like that. Besides, I can't afford another amp. I guess it's pretty sturdy, though sometimes it creaks if u sit on top of it or lift it up by the handle. I'm not worried too much though.

Customer Support : No Opinion
Nothing so far. I've only had it for a month.

Overall Rating : 9
I'll give this thing a 9 overall because for the money, I think it's the most versatile amp with the most features out there so far. I did my research before buying an amp and I got lucky to get this for 50 bucks cheaper than the store price. I use a Boss OD-20 Drive Zone which is an incredibly versatile distortion pedal, so between this and the pedal I have finally found my tone. I also use Vox V847 wah pedal.

I think this amp was made in 2004. I know it's new, but I have a feeling it's really new since I can't find any info about it on the Crate website. I wouldn't say it's versatile but it does one thing well...distortion. The clean sound is close to a tube but since it's a solid state, it comes close to responding like tube but not quite. It works awesome as a solid state though. Really tight for the static-x/marilyn manson sound. It meets my requirements for a tight distortion amp. My style of music is pop rock with good distortion. Clean channel is much better than my Laney Pro Tube 50 clean channel. It has 2 channels and built in effects. They're okay and don't really sound unnatural. Has a built in tuner too. Really nice. I'm happy with this amp. There's nothing more that I wish from this amp. I would say this is a top of the line Solid State amp. It distorts like no other. This amp is way powerful. Definitely 120 watts. I play with a full band with this amp and am not worried about keeping up volume wise. I use this amp when I'm tired of carrying my halfstack Matchless to gigs. Especially really small venues. Again, this amp does one thing good. Distortion. Blows away the Line 6 and Marshalls. It has that presence that the others don't.

Sound Quality : 10
I've used it with my Ibanez talman tc-820 and Charvel Telecaster with Seymour Duncan tele pickups. It fits my style when I want that nu-metal/death metal distortion. It's noisy when you're using the overdrive channel. Since it's solid state, it responds immediately. Therefore, I don't click on distortion until the song begins. Therefore it's quiet until you go. The clean channel is really really close to a class-a amp. It does not respond like a tube so if you're looking for tube, get a tube amp. Tube amps have more color but they don't have as much of an impact when you need it. The clean channel does not distort at high volumes. The distortion is the most brutal of it's kind. The only thing close was a $2k used Soldano head. I love distortion and I've been buying pedals to find the right distortion. I was at Guitar Center for 4 hours trying every amp possible there. The Line 6 Spiders don't even come close. You'd have to spend over $1k to find a line 6 head that may come close but really at the end isn't quite it. This is the heaviest amp you can find for under $500. No doubt about it.

Reliability : 10
It's solid state. Absolutely reliable. I have blown a Marshall 50 watt solid state before. So if it goes, it goes. I trust it.

Customer Support : No Opinion
Never had to use them. It comes with a 5 year transferrable warranty. Totally unheard of. My Matchless has a lifetime one, but they went out of business. I'm not sure that the new Matchless company would honor it.

Overall Rating : 10
I've been playing for close to 20 years. In terms amps I use my Matchless HC-30 as the benchmark for all amps. If the crate was stolen I'd get another one. It's been known that Marshalls have that sound and you can't replicate it. You cannot get heavy without that Marshall Signature sound. I think Billy Corgan was the last person I heard this from. So I was determined to get a Marshall head. The MG-100 since Static-x swears by them and they're a pretty heavy band. Once I got to Guitar Center, I was pretty disappointed after testing it. Then I tried everything from the cheapest to the expensive. I tried a used $700 Marshall quadraverb 120 and it still didn't have that kick. The Marshall was smooth, but not heavy. MM's Beatiful People was the test riff that I used. The Crate was the closest in replication of it therefore I went for it. I trust my ears. I don't like the clean channel as much as my Matchless(duh!) but it comes close. The tone is in your fingers, so with a little practice, I'm sure I can come close live. Like I said, the Soldano was nice. But for $2k, I'd rather get a Tom Anderson.(Which is next by the way.) So for a modern heavy sound, there is no other. Sorry Marshall, Crate has finally made something heavier. I tried the Vox combo too. It's class a type distortion but simply isn't heavy. A sound engineer of mine turned me onto this amp. Yes Crate has a crappy reputation because their meat n potatoes amps are these $300 amps. But he said he was able to record the biggest guitar sound out of the Crate amp. The Marshall thins out in recordings. It just simply gets lost. But this Crate gives you what you want. HEAVY! So if you like Distortion, and want to stop on a dime, go for this solid state amp. Tube's can't stop as quickly. Solid State amps are great for riff oriented music. My style is closer to Brit pop however. Brits aren't really into heavy music.(When was the last time you've heard of a heavy British band?) I like the Crate FXT-120 because it's plain heavy. I really don't want anyone to know about this amp because it's a secret weapon. But at the same time I'm curious to see if anyone else has one and what they thought of it. Plus with Crate putting out such a great amp, I want them to stay in business to see what other cool things they'll come up with. So go out and buy the FXT-120. I wasn't as impressed with the other Crate lineup. I wanted a head but they didn't make one. So the only configuration you can get is a combo. Oh and the cool thing about this is you can run it in parallel with a Marshall cabinet. Which I do which will give me a super big sound. I'm all about progress, and with developments in technology, it would be a shame if things never got better than the early 70s in terms of music equipment. Yes, move over Marshall, things are changing!
