Crate G120CXL 990 Limited Edition

This amp has worked for me for around 6 years, and I love the sound it gets. The clean is a little thin, but add an external eq and it will even it up. The distortion is great for an almost 80's rock/metal sound. good chorus on it, though the reverb leaves a little to be desired. Plenty of power, I have used this amp stand alone and with 2 4x12 cabs in small clubs to large auditoriums and usually just ran the amp with out miking it through the mixer to get my sound the way I wanted it. Plenty of volume, though the clean channel can get tricky at higher volume.

I use an Ibanez RG-550 with the stock V8-S1-V7 pickups, and have used a Jackson Dinky with seymour duncans, and various other guitars through this amp, all with pleasing results. I play rock/metal and I can squeeze most sounds I want out of this amp, especially with just an external EQ added in to the mix. The distortion may net be enough for something like Korn, but it has some good gain to it. The clean channel as said above, gets tricky at higher volume. The distortion channel is rather noisy, and can get interference from radio signals at times.

I am currently have problems with the left channel of the pre-amp or power amp cutting out, but considering this amp has been used and abused for 6 or more years, not bad. It's been all over the country and in many different settings, indoor, outdoor and never has failed during a live gig.

I just contacted the Crate customer support to see how I can get the left channel problem fixed, so we will see. Before the music store in town went out of business I would just go there for any problems and the dealer would take care of it with Crate. On the 2 4x12 crate cabs I have, I needed a speaker replace and had it within 2 days.

I have been playing for over 12 years, and have owned only one amp other than a Crate, and will buy more crate amps in the future. If it were stolen, I would buy it again, but getting this exact amp would probably be impossible as it is no longer made and was a limited edition to begin with.
