Bought it as a practise amp - can't use my vintage Marshall JMP-50 as my practise amp in my apartment! My Marshall needs to be cranked and the landlady would evict me if I tried to do that! Very simple - like the eq - very easy to get great tone. Would have preferred to have separate EQ for each channel. I really like the external speaker jack because I run it into my Marshall 4x12 cabinet to get better tone. Single 8" speaker doesn't sound that great. Should have bought something with a footswitch so I could change channels without having to reach over and hit the button.

I use my 79 Gibson Explorer and get great heavy distortion. Backing off the gain and you can go from heavy metal to dirty blues distortion easily. With my 85 Fender Strat (single coil), I get great tone for blues. I use the reverb to fatten up the sound - works great as a practise amp.

This is a great practise amp - don't try to gig with it. If you have a real amp, then use the external speaker jack with your cabinet. Compared it to the Marshall solid state amps and it blew them away (and I love my Marshall JMP50 so it hurts to say that!). For my next practise amp, I would buy something with a footswitch and separate eq for each channel. However, for the price, this was an excellent buy.

It has 12 watts with a clean and dirty channel. Speaker and headphone jack, too. The channels have Bass, Mid, Treb, and Gain knobs. Pretty plain. Don't expect much from this thing. A practice amp. Nothing more.

Now I get to insult this thing! This amp sucks! Even though its a practice amp, shouldn't it at least sound decent? Well, it doesn't. The clean channel breaks up after 4 of the bass is past 3 or 4. The distortion channel is weak and hideus sounding. I have a Jackson JD-R reverse and an original 1950's Danelectro. Sounds crappy on both. The amp will sound OKAY of you plug a really good distortion pedal into it, but what amp wouldn't? You can also turn up the clean or dirty channels up to 10 and it won't be loud at all.

When I first got this amp it sounded okay, but I was only a beginner so I didn't know any better.I have since moved on and I have found this amp is really noisy, sounds bad,has weak distortion, and is just all around bad.I don't use it any longer as a amp,I use it as a preamp,it still sounds bad,but I crank the distortion and use my pedals. It gives massive feedback,it gives me the nirvana type feedback that I have wanted to get,but you can only turn up a 120 watt tube amp so high before the neighbors call the cops.So I use this.Back to the amp,the clean distorts at 5 with single coils, and it distorts at all times with hums. The distortion is weak and useless.

As a beginer amp it is okay, but if you want to sound decent, save up and at least look around for a small tube amp.Tubes are just better sounding.Unless you play metal, then I guess you can use soild states.I used this amp with many guitars, too many to name.My pedals were, boss ds-1,boss hm-2,boss flanger, zoom 505...crap,dod deathmetal.(what the fuck was I thinking),dod grunge (even crappier),and a few others I can't remember.I would never buy this amp again. If you are looking at this amp,try to find something a little better sounding.By the way,dod pedals are horrible,do not buy them, unless you are looking for a feedback machine.Boss pedals forever.

I bought this amp to be my first guitar amp. When I got it, I didn't really know what I was looking for in terms of features... however, now that I know what is what, this amp is fairly limited. The only real features it has are the built-in overdrive, line out, headphone jack, and 3-channel equalizer. Beyond that, it's featureless as far as solid state amps go. I wish it had reverb built-in, and another input jack, but I suppose I got what I payed for. In terms of power, it IS only a 15-watt amp... it can be loud, but it's a little painful to listen to.
Sound Quality
:
7
I use this amp with a Hamer guitar that has 3 single-coil pick-ups, and it is very noisy pretty much all the time. I get a fairly constant hum no matter which pick-up I use. I play everything I can get the tabs for, and it does an adequate job as a practice amp. With a nice variety of effects, like chorus and an entirely separate distortion, it doesn't sound that terrible. However, the built-in overdrive has little to no power, and the volumn seems to fluxtuate up and down when it's on. When the clean channel is put anywhere higher than about '5' with the guitar turned all the way up, it begins to get crackely, and anywhere above that only sounds worse. In the end, the sound is not really all that bad, but if it's set wrong, they sure can sound terrible!
Reliability
:

I would sit on this amp if I didn't have a chair. What else can I say? Solid state amps seem very reliable as a whole, and this is no exception. It has been dropped, hit, and tripped over numerous times without so much as a hiccup. It's taken lotsa rides in cars, and I've jerked the cord good and hard a few times on accident (I forget to unplug it) and it never breaks. I wouldn't gig with it, tho, cause it is just a silly little practice amp.

I've only been playing for just under a year, and I've had this little amp for the whole time. It's never given out on me, and I don't think it ever will. When it comes time to get a bigger (MUCH bigger) amp, I think I will get another Crate, because, despite some little faults, it is a great amp overall (just keep in mind that it's only for practicing) .

Well, this is a basic practice combo amp... 15 watts, mono, solid state, clean and overdrive channel (no footswich.. damn), and a 3-band eq. Just the basics, through i wish it had a footswich to switch channels... Otherwise is ok for the price.
Sound Quality
:

Ok, the important stuff, the sound :) Well, i've to give credit to the people in Crate for this "FlexWave" technology... the clean channel sounds surprisingly good, colorfull and with and edge (through it tends to crack and distort over 7 or so; it's a 15 watts... anyway, i take adventage of that :). The overdrive it's good too, through it tends to get a little "metal"... anyway, playing with the eq (works quite ok) u can get sounds that goes from blues to overcranked metal stuff. The only flaw in here is that the amp tends to give up an excessive noise when not played or playing very softly and it can be very annoying. *AND*, it's only 15watts, but's a practice combo.

Ok, the bottom line. I love this amp; yet i'd get something better if stolen (after killing the bastard :). Don't take me wrong, it hisses like hell and it's only 15watts, but it kicks the HELL of any other combo in the price range. I love it's clean chan, and it's solid state. The buzzing bothers, but's a good buy anyway. Compare it against a cheap Peavey or something and u'll be amazed.

The GX-15 has enough features for a beginner, that's when I got it. It has the usual - 3 tone, 2 channels. The 12 watts this little thing pumps out are good for practicing by yourself but bad for playing with the band.

Soundwise, this thing has good and bad aspects. The clean channel is great, but only at low volumes. It seems to distort at about 6 or so. When I first had this amp I used the build in distortion which seemed fine at the time. Since then I have purchased a Boss Turbo Distortion pedal, which completely blows the GX-15 built-in distortion away

The Crate GX 15 is suitable for beginners, but can be bad for pros. It has a number of adjustable buttons: gain, 2 levels, low, mid, and high and an overdrive button, which make good use. But the annoying buzzing sound that the amp harbors is just plain bad.
Sound Quality
:

The clean channel of the amp is distorted at high volumes, and in overdrive. The distortion is somewhat bad maybe a 3 of 10, but it doesn't affect playing much. I am using a Kramer guitar, which is taking it okay. The amp is very noisy at Tone 7, Tone 7, Volume 9.

I have owned this amp for 1 year and I started to hate it after 6 months of the purchase. I wish I would have dished out an extra 50 bucks for a marshall or fender. I was a begginer/intermediate though so I diddn't know any better. If you don't ever want to be heard then buy this amp. If you wan't to be heard then buy a marshall or fender 15 or 30 watt amp. You won't regrett it. I couldn't even sell this damm amp back to a store for 30 bucks. If you want an amp than go to a store and try out a marshall. Then remember the model and order it through musicians friend or Veneman's Music Emporium. You'll save 50-300 bucks!

Overall, it's really not that bad. It's a two channel, 15 watt solid- state w/ a headphone jack and external speaker jack. The only effect it has is overdrive, but the GX-15R model includes a reverb setting. I find that I like the sound of a pedal opposed to the amp's overdrive both for tonal and effiency reasons (the overdrive channel is triggered by a button on the face. It has an eq for HIGHS, MIDS, AND LOWS, a LEVEL control for the clean channel, and GAIN and LEVEL controls for the overdrive channel. The amp has served all of my needs well and sounds good for just about anything.

The amp suits my styles just fine. It can handle anything from clean pop to acid rock to smooth blues, as well as anything in between. It tends to buzz a bit (the higher the volume the more buzz) but it isn't noticeable in situations other than absolute silence, and from what I've heard it's a lot better than most. The amp is pretty sensitive to dynamics and tone and, as aforementioned, has a lot of variety. The best setting for my room is on 3. From that setting, you get no distortion and don't deafen any hapless victim that might be in the house while you are playing. From that setting, the volume control on the guitar works great. The guitar I'm using with it is an Ibanez RX 240 with single coils in the neck and mid position and a humbucker at the bridge, but other guitars have sounded just as good using it.

So far, I've had it for a year and a half and have had no problems with it. Hopefully, I never will. It's extremely durable (with a hard plastic casing) and has survived more than its share of "bumps." I wouldn't use it for a gig, but only because it's a 15 watt.

I would definately buy this again if I had to (though I might spend a little extra and get the version with reverb). There's nothing that I really hate about it. I can't really compare it to any other amps that I own (namely because I own no others) but it beats a Squire amp by a mile, but I've not heard anything that hasn't, and compares very well with other practice amps. I chose this amp because of it's low price, versatility, and tone (it made everything at the shop sound great). It also came highly recommended from the reputable dealer I bought it from (supposedly, he uses it himself). Give it a few pedals and watch it fly, or leave it clean and let it groove with the best. For a practice amp it's great, and for a beginner, it's even better.

Sounds pretty damn good for such a low price. I use a strat and an SG through it, no problem. There is a slight buzz, but it can only be heard in total silence. I mainly play Nirvana, Bush, etc. through it and I think it sounds damn nice even compared to my friend's 60watt Fender.Oh ya, the distortion channel sucks. Go out and buy a Boss pedal, you will thank me. Although this amp may sound like total shit if you use a Jag-Stang with it, but what amp wouldn't. There's lots of bass, so cutting it out totalyy makes it sound better.

Pretty versitle, nice, starter amp. It was my first, and was a really pretty good buy in end. It has one input, and features two channels: Overdrive and clean. The Overdrive channel has two knobs (Gain and Level), and the Clean channel features Level, and three knobs for EQ (High, Low, and Mid). Has two outputs (very nice feature), one for headphones and one for stronger output, so you can use it as a preamp.

Pretty nice sound, though a lot of people probably disagree (you may have to take some flack from your more-professional-than-thou friends, but its a really great amp to start on in my opinion. The Overdrive is pretty nice, its mainly un-fuzzy and more distorty/murky. Nice though!

Well, the first one I bought screwed up and with switch from volumes when it wasn't suppose to (it would suddenly rise or drop in volume), but the store replaced it for me (because I'd bought it within the year). Be *SURE* to fill out the warrenty as *SOON* as you bring it home, I probably would've been in trouble if I had it a bit longer. The warrenty is 5 year electronics/2 year speaker.

I'd buy it again if I was starting out all over again. Its good for that. Only thing I wish it had was a footswitch to go between the clean channel and the overdrive channel. You have to press the button on the amp.
