Amp made in 2007, small 1 x12 combo amp with a larger cabinet for fuller bass tone. Very versatile in sounds from clean, crunch and hi gain. Amp has three button footswitch, effects loop and extension speaker out. The cool thing with this amp is it has built in FX that is pretty nice sounding depending on how you set them up. 65 watts RMS output with a 1 X 12 speaker. Solid state design but the high gain is pretty close to the hi gain on my Marshall DSL2000.

I???m using a custom built Stratocaster with conversion neck that has the 24 3/4 scale neck, and 2 HB pickups. the clean sounds very good as close to a fender twin. The crunch sounds fantastic and can do full chords and stay articulate. The hi gain is awesome in the type of smooth hi gain. I can get the Vivian Campbell sound exactly from the Holy Diver 1982 album. Depending on how the hi gain is set I can get a close sound to Zakke Wilde from the No more tears album too. Lots of harmonics in the distortion and smooth. The one thing I did do to make this amp better was to replace the stock speaker with a speaker from Warehouse speakers, the vintage 30 model that is a copy of a Celestion vintage 30 but without the hi end annoyance the real vintage 30 has. I play at home and in clubs and the amp does a fantastic job for both. Of course miking the amp gives a very in concert type sound like playing thru a stack. When playing the song Holy Diver I nail Viv???s sound to a T. This amp actually gets a better smoother hi gain than the Soldano SLO100 I had but sold.
I play mostly rock but some country and light rock too. My favorite stuff is the 80's metal.

I have over 30 years of guitar playing starting in clubs in 1982 and have had many amps, guitars, effects, you name them, I???ve had them all including a vintage Marshall 50 watt non master head from 72 with a vintage 4x12 Marshall cab from the 60's with the real Celestion 30's. This amp is a great little amp with a loud and full tone. I dig it and rate it up there with many of the hi dollar amps I have owned over many years. If it were stolen I would probably try to get another if possible. After all who wants to lug a full stack or half stack when this amp will do it all.

3 channels + effects. But it???s greatest feature is it???s EASE OF USE, ...no one else has figured out how to make this all work so effortlessly. It is a brilliant design. No programming. No scrolling. No menus. No navigating. No patching pedals! Just good ol??? KNOBS.
Loud enough for stage, light enough for portability. Looks ???boutique??? expensive, but not. A real bargain when you consider all the pedals, or clutter, you no longer deal with.

Lets be realistic, for a ???jack of all trades??? it is excellent. No, you won???t coax that compressed hollow detail of a real ???66 AC30 out of it, ... or the liquid bell tone delay of your vintage Memory Man. But it does a little of EVERYTHING, and it does a little of everything SHOCKINGLY WELL. There are many many tube amps out there that sound edgier, harsher, grainier, than this solid state unit.
Lets be critical: Sure, the overdrive is a little fizzy until you roll back the treble, but still as ???tubey??? and very similar sounding to the very BEST British made Marshall solid states. The delays are a little sterile, ...but acceptable, ...and much better than any digital modeling amp on the market.
Lets be fair: It may be 10-15 years before any digital modeling amps sound this organic, and react this dynamically. Even the best of them, the Vox series, sound flat, limp, lifeless in comparison, ...they don???t respond to your attack.

It had better hold up, because I have gotten rid of all my clutter and I don???t think it is replaceable since it is discontinued. I would pay whatever it took for a used one it if it died.

NOTE TO ST. LOUIS MUSIC:
Undoubtedly one of the best products ever under your Crate name. Something is wrong with the marketing if you can???t find a huge audience for an inexpensive product that does so many things this well, ...this easily, ...this cost effectively.
I sincerely hope you replace it with something very similar.

One of the best, if not the best, inexpensive ???do it all??? solid state amplifiers made to date - no exaggeration. The lack of a headphone jack is the only glaring omission.
Spend the money you save on pedals on a Celestion Vintage 30 speaker upgrade for an enhanced Marshall tone.
A brilliantly simple design and arguably as good sounding as any solid state gets in the year 2008.

I think you know by now what features this guitar has. My opinion of them is this:
I like the three channels, and find the knobs smooth and responsive without being too sensitive. Reverb is okay. Delay is okay. Digital effects really do all sound the same to me, but I really don't need 'em. Wish it had a headphone jack. The tuner only has three lights: flat, in-tune, and sharp, and because of this, it can say you're in tune when you're not. Maybe okay for quick adjustments, but you'll need a separate tuner.
I play all kinds of stuff - jazz, blues, southern rock, hard rock and metal (a lot of major scale Paul Gilbert type stuff) - and find this amp very versatile, with plenty of power.

I play a Parker P-32 (H-S-S) straight into amp. I've already told you what styles of music I play, and this suits them well. It's a little noisy, but that can be blamed on the single coils and the fact that our house was built in '29 so there are no grounds in the outlets.
As for the sound, I'll do this channel by channel:
Clean: Excellent. Tube snobs won't agree, but I've played extensively through a Fender Hot Rod Deluxe and prefer this amp. Nice, warm sound with no noise. Took me no time at all to find the setting I like.
Rhythm: Very cool for blues and lower-gain stuff. I love how the tone of my pickups come through on this channel! Very transparent, which in a way makes it unsuitable (to me) for hard rock rhythm playing. A little too bright for that. I keep the gain around 11 o'clock and it sounds really good.
Solo: Metal heads seem to me the pickiest group of all guitar players, so I can't guess whether they'll like it or not. Still, it's plenty for me. I keep the gain at around 9:30 and it's more than enough for Opeth-type stuff. I don't like the contour control, because no matter where I have it there's this ever-present "AWW" sound like a wah pedal stopped in the middle. For this reason, it's fun to play around with, but I plan on getting a distortion pedal: with clean channel for rhythm, and rhythm channel for boost.
All in all, very versatile, and I'm happy with it.

I've been playing about ten years now. I've had over two dozen guitars (built three) and a bunch of amps and pickups and pedals, etc. I got an Ibanez TBX150H a few weeks ago and couldn't for the life of me find a sound I like. This thing blows it away. I should say I've been a rabid anti-Crate guy for a long time, but I really like this amp a lot.
It's the most versatile amp I've played. Love the clean sound and rhythm channel for blues. Solo channel fun to mess with, but I'll be getting a pedal for my hard rock tone. I feel completely satisfied with it, and the price I paid for it. ($240 price-matched plus ten percent off through Musicians Friend) I was despairing my tone a week ago, but now I'm happy.

Solid State, 3 footswitchable channels, DSP Effects, built-in tuner - though I wish it had the ability to mute as I tune. Otherwise neat feature.
I play in a couple cover bands and frankly lugging my stage gear got old - 3 trips to the car for the head, cabinet, effects board, gear bag & guitar. I went out looking for a combo that was versatile enough to cover a variety of styles , mostly rock and hard rock, powerful enough for band levels and yet be easy to drop down, plug and play & at a decent price.
No amp is perfect and I definitely prefer tubes, but this does a decent job tone-wise. I LOVE being able to carry this and a guitar and be playing in moments. Just plug it in the power and the guitar - ready! Tuner is built-in and dialing the effects is easy enough. The effects are not great, but I'm not complaining either.
Takes a lot of tweaking the controls to get the tone "right".

I use it with my Ibanez SZ 320, Schecter Hellraiser, Gibson Explorer and Ibanez RG 760 and do find it likes the active EMG's over the Seymour Duncans in my Ibanez. Seems to want to feedback with the Duncans on wither of the overdrive channels.
The OD channels can be noisy, too. Hissing is probably a good description. I've noticed this with other solid-state amps, too. Again, it's my practice amp and I have no intent of gigging with it, but if I did that would be a turn-off.

Had a Crate about 15 years ago and about 5 years ago it developed a popping sound. Made me think twice before getting another Crate until...I walked into a local Guitar Center and they were blowing them out at 199 bucks. For that money I can live with its shortcomings and questionable reliability (in my mind, anyway).

Recently celebrated my 25th year of playing guitar and have owned many amps. Currently I have a my (still) main amp Peavey 5150 -amazingly versatile -, a VOX AD15 and now this Crate. They each have a purpose and the Crate is good for my band practice situation, but for gigs it's the full 5150 rig. Not that this RFX couldn't handle it, it just lacks the overall feel and power that you can only get from tubes. A good back-up maybe.
For the price I'd buy another, but given a few extra bucks I might spend it on a tube combo next time.

This amp is incredibly versatile with 3 channels (Clean, Rhythm, Solo), and built in DSP effects. It comes with a foot pedal to switch channels and turn on/off the DSP effects. It is very good looking, as well. It does not have a headphone jack so therefore does not get a 10.
Sound Quality

I think that, for the money (299.99 sticker price), you don't get much better than this. The clean is pristine and absolutely sparkles with a touch of chorus from the DSP. It has a ton of headroom as well.
The rhythm channel is very good but be advised - it takes quite a bit of fiddling to get YOUR sound from it. I personally found that I have to back the highs off completely on the EQ to get rid of fizzy overdrive. But that is just my preference. Once I dialed it in, though, it is fantastic and very organic sounding.
The solo channel sports hair raising gain levels and the accompanying BUZZ. Sounds great. I use the contour knob to scoop the mids out just a tad (the rhythm channel EQ is the EQ for this channel, also and remember mine has no highs) and keep the gain down at 9 o'clock. Incredible sound for hard rock/classic metal.
This category gets a solid 9. The only amp I have used that gets a 10 in sound is a jumped Marshall Bluesbreaker on 10. I couldn't find fault with it, lol. But I couldn't hear very well after I tried it either.

I have been playing guitar since 1984. I own several Gibsons including my favored ES-335. I also own/have owned just about all the Fenders and quite a few of the rest of them, too. They all sound great through this. I've owned rack-mount Marshall stuff, half-stacks, full-stacks, tube combos of several varieties, etc. This is a perfectly good sounding amp when compared to anything I've owned, when considering the price. There are nuances to all guitar amps and $2500.00 Marshall heads have nuances that this amp does not. But for my money, I'll take this all day long. It costs less than the tax on some of the amps available these days for crying out loud. Overall rating is a 10.

I've always been curious about Crate's marketing tactics. Aside from aesthetics, majority of the Crate's amplifier models remain similar within product lines. Aside from this personal curiosity, this particular model offers vast array of features.
A Crate "Custom Design" 12 inch speaker is housed within a sturdy black tolex cab. In contrast to Crate's modern amp design, the face of the amp has some nice appointments. The front is clean, only showcasing a tweed-esque speaker grill and gold Crate logo.
The control panel is placed on the top of the amp and inset. Gold knobs and gold edge corners continue the "dressed up" theme.
The amp has three channels. The Clean and Rhythm channels both have independent EQs, and the Solo channel has a Gain/Level and Shape(Contour) knob to sweep in/out mid frequencies. The amp also features Crate's DSP engine. The DSP is dissected into into "Modulation" and "Delay/Echo" sections. Phaser/Flange/Chorus/Auto-Wah primarily make up the Modulation section and Delays and Echoes are featured on their respected section. The amp also features digital Reverb that is mastered along all three channels.
To help break free from the "Preset" reputation, a Tap/Tempo button works with the DSP to provide more finite control and sound. The Tap/Tempo also doubles as a "Save" button that will dedicate effects to each channel. The included Footswitch also can be used to further expand the function of effects. RCA Inputs are also on top for Audio Led Jam sessions. The Chromatic Tuner is also featured and remains intact when the amp is on.
A great "All in One" package for a 65watt Solid State combo. I wish the Solo channel had it's own dedicated EQ, and perhaps double as a "Boost" section to the Rhythm.

14 years ago, I decided to pick up a guitar. The Crate G10 was my very first amplifier. A small 10watt, 8 inch speaker combo that simply did not DIE! I convinced myself through my years of playing that Crate was absolutely AWFUL! Although, now I am confident that my opinion of the amp was solely based on my inability to play the instrument.
Years later, I was in the market for a new amp. Needless to say, I decided to give Crate another shot(after a 14 year avoidance).
First and foremost, I play Jazz and Bossa Nova. So a valve amp was not even a consideration, neither was "Tube Emulation". The Crate offered the clearest cleans at the fairest price. I found the amp to be quite responsive to touch, brilliant and full in sound, and surprisingly dynamic. Although, I seldom play on the "Rhythm" and "Solo" channels, I do find it enjoyable and hilarious to revisit 80's glam rock...albeit a rarity. (The Rhythm channel is quite nice for that "Sparkle Drive" tone, and the Solo seems to have more than enough gain. I'm not a Metal player, so determine that factor for yourself.)
I tried the Roland Cube 60(too boxy), the Vox AD50(too glitchy), the Line 6 Spider 3(too fizzy). The Crate offered the most consistent performance at multiple volume points.
The onboard DSP is slighty cheesy, but it's fun for tinkering. If you were serious about effects, you wouldn't look to an onboard unit anyways. The reverb is slighty noisy when activated and the range is rather limited (knob kinda jumps from 0 to 10 quite fast).
For my style of playing, it offers great Clean tone at a fantastic price. I would give it an 10, but I really only play a third of the amp and can't give an honest assessment on the other channels.

I've been playing for 14 years and have own a myriad of gear during that span. Currently I have a Rainsong acoustic, and Ibanez Semi-Hollow Body, and this Crate Amp. I've grown out of that "gotta get this", "must spend this amount of money to sound good" phase....gear can only get you so far, it can't hide technique.
It's a wonderful amp for light session and in house playing. Sounds fantastic and handles well at loud volumes. A fantastic value. If I am ever in the market for another amp, I'm sure to look at Crate again.

I only use reverb (which is decent) and delay. The delay is acceptable but is either too stong or too weak. Not enough inbetween settings for the delay. The clean channel is great but could use a bit more high end even with single coil pickups. The clean reminds me of a fender tube amp. The Rhythm channel is fabulous. Great response with articulate gritty crunch. Cleans up nice when you roll the volume off. Like old AC/DC. I have a Marshall JCM 2000 TSL 212 tube amp and this Crate is so close it's scary. The solo channel is crazy super high gain. You must experiment with the tone contour to get your desired sound. For a portable combo it got a rather large cabinet which helps the bottom end. My gripes are very minor and don't detract much from the overall usability.

Looks as good as it sounds. I never really considered Crate before I heard this model. It'll do country, jazz, classic rock and alternative.

Well, I am a bit of a tone snob, but I actually like this amp. I went in to buy another amp that cost three times the price, and ended up falling in love with this little guy! That being said, this amp isnt my main amp. Far from it actually. My touring rig involves two mesa boogie stacks. But I imagine were the movers to roll that rig up into my sky rise apartment, I would be evicted before I even had a chance to piss anyone off with it! So I needed something small, and for a practice amp, it sounds great, has a lot of versatility to it, etc etc. I lined up every combo amp they sell at Guitar Center, and this one sounded the most like a 'real amp'. Sure, line6 has an amp with 20 more effects that sound bad, and Vox has one with a real tube that sounds bad. Dont think I am saying its bad by giving it an 8. Anything higher than 9, it'd have to walk on water for. And its still kinda noisy, at least compared to some of the high-end stuff I own. So I say, 8.

I think I read that it is solid state, so why wouldnt it be reliable? If it isnt reliable enough to be used as a practice amp in my living room, than it doesnt deserve any score at all, it'd be on its way back to Guitar Center.

I am using a Gibson SG Standard and a Classic with hum P90's and the clean is the best I have heard on an SS amp period. I have the V50 and V30 tubes amps also and the clean on this amp is on a par with either, I was amazed. The rhythm channel gets great old school OD tones and the solo channel goes over the top from smooth Santana to Shred with a twist of the tone shape knob. No the OD is not as good as the V Series tube amps I have, but so close it isn't even funny. I will use tube amps in the studio and take this guy to gigs and no one will know, believe me.

Here is my list of goodies that I have had in the past-line 6 flextons 212, marshall vs265 stereo chorus, fender cyber deluxe, marshall avt 150 and avt 50 half stack, peavy XXl, peavy bandit and studio pro, spider 112 first series, fender ultimate chorus, line 6 POD numorus boss pedals, digitech rp-1 and rp-5, korg a5, zoom 707 zoom G1 the list goes on and on. Bottom line is I realy like this amp and hope it holds up to the gigging I want to use it for. I AM USING AN ESP MH1000 - WITH DUNCAN HUMBUCKING PUPS, FLOYD ROSE, SET NECK. I HAVE PLAYED A FENDER PLAYERS STRAT DELUX WITH THE STANDARD FENDER SINGLE COILS THROUGH THIS AMP. THE ESP JUST TOTALLY RULES ALL CHANNELS ON THIS AMP, EXCELLENT CLEAN ALMOST ALL THE WAY UP TO FULL VOLUME, I MEAN CRISP AND SPARKLING CLEAN, AFTER YOU GET ABOUT 3/4 WAY UP ON VOLUME IT WILL GET A SLIGHT AMOUNT OF BITE TO THE SIGNAL BUT THAT IS GOOD, FOR BLUES AND COUNTRY AND LETS KEEP IN MIND, THERE IS ONLY SO FAR YOU CAN PUSH A SINGLE 12" SPEAKER. THE FENDER DUE TO THE LOW OUTPUT SINGLE COILS SOUND JUST FABULOUS ON THIS AMPS CLEAN SECTION.
WHERE IT REALLY SHINES IS IN THE OVERDRIVE AND SOLO CHANNELS! THE OVERDRIVE IS GREAT FOR BLUES AND STONER ROCK, MOST CLASSIC ROCK WILL SOUND WELL ON THE OVERDRIVE CHANNEL WITH A LITTLE FINESE ON THE TONE CONTROLS YOU CAN NAIL MOST CLASSIC ROCK AND BLUES TONES.
THE SOLO CHANNEL IS INSANE GAIN!!!! THE FENDER SOUNDS LIKE CRAP THROUGH THE SOLO CHANNEL, SINGLE COILS AT HIGH GAIN ALWAYS SOUND NASALLY AND CRAPPY AT HIGH GAIN BUT THE ESP IS A METAL GUITAR AND REALLY PUSHES THIS AMP INTO SOME AWSOME METAL TONES FROM OLD SCHOOL TO NU-SCHOOL. NOW THE SOLO CHANNEL IS NICE BECAUSE IT CLEANS UP NICELY WHEN YOU TURN THE GAIN DOWN AND WOULD BE GREAT JUST FOR A SOLID BOOST ON LEAD SOLOS FOR CLASSIC ROCK AND BLUES BUT BELIEVE ME, I'VE NEVER PLAYED WITH A SOLID STATE COMBO WITH SUCH A SWEET SOUNDING GAIN TO IT. I COULD NOT TURN THE GAIN MUCH PAST 1/2 WAY BECAUSE IT WAS JUST TOO MUCH UNLESS YOU ARE INTO SLIPKNOT OR SOMETHING, BUT MY STYLE IS 80' & 90'S THRASH FROM ANNIHILATOR TO MEGADETH TO OVERKILL. THIS AMP HANDLES THAT JUST FINE, HANDLES MOST MUSIC FINE - I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND THIS FOR COUNTRY MUSIC BECAUSE ALTHOUGH THE CLEAN IS PRISTINE TO SAY THE LEAST, A GOOD HIGH WATTAGE PEAVEY WILL FILL THE BILL FOR COUNTRY MUSIC.
ALSO ANOTHER NICE FEATURE ABOUT THIS COMBO AMP IS THE 8ohm SPEAKER OUT! I HOOKED IT UP TO A 4-12" BEHRINGER CABINET AND WOW! INSTANT HEAD!
