I tend to play Gibson style guitars with humbuckers. Les Paul Standard double cutaway, Old Ibenez LP Artist w/ DiMarzios, Epiphone Sheraton II, Dot, Joe Pass. This amp sounds great for a number of styles. The clean channel does tend to break up fairly early with the master set lower, but this is a sound I like (a touch of crunch in the clean). I'm playing blues these days, and this amp works well with the genre. I've used it to play hard rock, country, Top 40, and blues, and it sounded great with all styles. I rarely turn the Drive knob past 3-4, yet get plenty of grit/sustain. For more variation I sometimes use a Rat or Blues Driver. Very Fender-like (but mine has been modded). The FX loop was nice when I was using outboard stuff. I find the sound to be a bit bass heavy, but that can be compensated for with a simple twist of a knob. My only complaint is about the tone difference between the two channels. The clean channel sounds much darker than the lead channel.

I bought this amp in the mid 80's slightly used, and in great condition. I used it extensively for the next 10 years or so with and w/o backups. It always pulled through for me. It's seen some very hard use (mine) and needed only some minor repairs (Switches, tubes, blown speaker). Right now, it needs a little TLC, but still works OK. I use it mainly for practice and a spare.

Never had to contact Dean Markley, but the tech who worked on my amp did, and actually talked with Dean himself! They were very helpful getting schematics and info for the mods he did to the amp.

I've been playing professionally since 1976. I currently own two Peavey Classic 50's and a Tweed Deluxe DIY. I would miss it if it were stolen, but don't know how hard I'd try to replace it. Right now I'm into building my own amps. The CD-60 is a great amp for taking out to jams, practice, one nighters, and small venues. Very versatile and powerful as well. I plan to look into changing some cap values to even out the sound between channels. Who knows, I might even take it out of its semi-retirement.

This amp allows me to play anything. I'm in eigth grade and working to get in Jazz Band. I play everything from Crazy Train to Stairway to Heaven. The footswicth is great because it has a nice easy to push down buttons. Though I can't seem to figure out what the effects button does or how to use it. i use this amp in my band and it keeps great tube tone. I think the magnet is to big for me though...it could be lighter.

Sound Quality : 10
I use a humbuckers and occasionally fender single coils. Sounds perfect for using single coils for jazz and humbuckers for really nice low sounds. The distortion can handle any playing style.

Reliability : 10
Recently i had to take it to a shop because every tube broke. it was my fault because i was tired and accidently hit the off button instead of stand by button.. i felt so stupid. But the owner who had it before me had no problems with it

Customer Support : No Opinion
I dont No

Overall Rating : 10
ive been playing for 9 months but i started out not bad on guitar because i play oboe, piano, and percussion. I own a fender strat and a Slash Signature Epiphone. If the epiphone or amp were stolen i would hunt down the person who stole it and shot their f**king head off. This amp is way better than my crate because it has more power

Features : 10
see the previous entry for features. Basically 2 channels (clean and dirty) reverb, great effect loops, and footswitchable channel, reverb, and effects 1-12 combo with 60 watts tube

Sound Quality : 10
Clean is great, warm and chimey, like a good clean amp should. Like a nice Matchless or Mesa. Overdrive is also great, very marshall like with more beef and thickness than the 800 or 900's. on par with the silver anniversary or 30th anniversary sound has 3 buttons to boost or change the voicings of things, adds versitilty to the channel. reverb is pretty good too. can handle clean jazz to blues to death metal and everything in between

Reliability : 10
Only had it a week, but hasn't broken yet

Customer Support : No Opinion
No Idea, never used it.

Overall Rating : 10
I have been playing 15 years in bands, I own too much junk to mention, but tend to play gibsons (LP custom shop, es-330, or a moderne for the most part) The effect loop is switchable by the footswitch, and has in and out levels which is great for external things. the sound is complete, great clean, dirty, and everything in between THis amp blows away any fender, mesa, Marshall, or whatever combo for versitility and tone. If you see one buy it. I would buy another just to have. For $200, this is one of the greatest overlooked values.

The CD60 was built in the mid 1980's as part of Dean Markley's campaign to compete with Fender, Marshall, and others (Peavey?) in the amplifier market. He had an excellent line of tube amps, and his hybrids were pretty good too. This all-tube combo has 3 12AX7's in the preamp and 2 6L6's in the power stage, which effectively pump out 60 Watts into a single 12'' Dean Markley Magnum 80 W, 8 ohm speaker (made by Celestion, I believe). Features include channel switching, preamp output / power amp inputs, and an effects loop which has both adjustable send and returns (more later...). The front panel from left to right reads input(s) 1, 2, Volume (clean channel), Drive, Gain (dirty channel), Treble, Midrange, Bass, Master Volume, Reverb, and Presence. There is also a voicing switch, bright switch, and a mid-boost switch on the lead channel. A ground select switch and standby switch are also situated on the front panel, next to the power switch, which is illuminated when the amp is turned on. The back panel consists of the effects loop, the pre-out and post-in jacks, as well as two speaker outs, and a mains out. There is also a three-function footswitch for channel switching, reverb, and the effects loop (in/out).
This amp is a very versatile combo which is capable of very pristine, powerful clean tones and usable distortion tones. It's distortion is a bit dated for soloing, but I juice it up with my Boss SD-1 pedal, or a TS-9, much like players do with their old Marshalls and Hiwatts, and I can achieve classic lead tones that are very tasty. The clean channel is so good on it's own that I would have bought this amp for that channel alone! I like the clean tones better than any Fender amp I have owned, and they rank up there with my Hiwatt amps, although they are radically different. The clean channel has excellent bluesy, American tones that sound best with my stratocaster. I can attain very high spl levels before that channel breaks up. I really like the adjustable effects loop. It works perfectly with all my rack and pedal processors, and I can also use it as a boost loop by running a patch cable through it without any effects, and boosting the send and return level controls. This effectively enables my amp to have 4 footswitchable sounds; clean, clean boost, rhythm(lead), and rhythm(lead) boost. Throw in a TS-9 before the input, and there is plethora of usable sounds at my disposal! The reverb on this amp is adequate, better than Peavey amps from the same period, but not quite as lush as a Fender's, but I don't mind, this amp kicks! You can get the clean channel to distort by setting it high, and using the master to prevent you from blowing out your eardrums, but I do not like the tones that you get by doing this, they are nothing like a Marshall, besides, that is what the other channel is for!
This amp has plenty of power for me, and I do not have to stress myself packing it, for it is very portable. It also looks cool, with its black front and beige tolex covering!

Sound Quality : 10
I play a variety of musical styles, from country to alternative to metal, and this amp can cover these styles very well. I recommend a humbucking-equipped guitar with this amp to get more crunch out of it. Also, using an overdrive pedal, such as an SD-1 or TS-9, in conjunction with the lead channel can considerably improve the crunchiness! I do get some noise at extremely high SPL's, but this is to be expected.

Reliability : 10
I have used this amp without a backup for the last two years, even though I bought it used, and it was very ugly then! The transformers were loose, one was almost dangling! The outside was filthy, with cobwebs and mouse turds in the rear cavity. I spent about 4 hours stripping & scrubbing it with Simple Green to get it clean. I also replaced the 6L6's with new Sovteks because there were two mismatched tubes in place. The 12AX7's are GE's, probably stock. I ordered some new control knobs from a local music store because some of them were chipped and one was missing. The Dean Markley logo was also damaged, so I replaced that too. The footswitch cable required a simple repair. Otherwise, this amp has never failed me.

I have not dealt with DM before, but the product rep. did his/her job well, because I received the parts within 2 weeks of ordering them, which is very good considering I live in a small town in Canada! I hope to enjoy many more years out of this amp. I wish Dean Markley had not discontinued their tube amp line for many reasons: they were affordable, had great tones, and were versatile for the period in which they were produced.
I bought this amp used from a pawn shop for $165 Canadian, about $115 American. I would most certainly buy it again at this price, or even twice the price! It was a steal of a deal. FYI - they were about $1000 Can when they were new.

Overall Rating : 10
I have been playing guitar for over two decades, duting which I have owned over 40 guitars, and over 15 different amplifiers. I would have to kill the person who would ever dream of stealing my Dean Markley. This amp has been good to me, more faithful than my girlfriend, more trustworthy than my parents... Just kidding, a really good amp for a really good deal that's all. That's all we ever really want, isn't it?
