This amp has very few features compared to the amps these days. I my opinion less is more when it comes to amps and this darling amp is a great example of that. It's got clean and dirty channels that can be controlled with a foot switch and a four band EQ that is shared between the two. This amp also has spring reverb. Mine is equipped with a 12" celestion speaker and a NOS GE 12AX7 which are the only upgrades I made. The preamp has a 12AX7 but it must be a starved plate design.

Sound Quality : 8
I play lower gain sounds on this amp as well as a lot of clean. This amp has a smooth and creamy overdrive at the higher gain settings which is also very useable. I think this amp shines when it comes to the overdrive sounds below the 12 o'clock position. I have been very happy with it's performance and find myself using this amp more than my tube amps. It has a very sweet sound; that's not a "this amp is SWEET" description, the tone has a sweetness to it that is smooth and clear, yet warm and creamy. Very beautiful overdrive tones. The clean is nice and punch as well, but not as complex as I would like, but very nice and warm, especially for a solid state hybrid.

Reliability : 10
No problems with mine!

I have not dealt with customer service.

I have been playing for 20 years and own many amps and guitars. I use mostly tube amps that run the gamut from 50's american to 80's british. If this amp were stolen I would probably get a replacement if the price made sense. I love this amp and would recommend it to players who want a bluesy or creamy sound. I wouldn't really say it would be appropriate for hard rock, but it would be fine for punk and rock and roll.

No idea what year. Really fun little amp. Nice two channel set-up, both of which have a pre-amp master set up that lends itself nicely to whatever you have in mind. 12AX7 in the preamp circuitry. Footswitch, preamp out, power amp in, ground switch, very comfortable layout.

Sound Quality : 10
This is my living room practice amp, and makes a great studio amp as well. This little thing screams. Rare to find a solid state amp that can produce the warmth and tonal range of harmonic distortion you find in this little guy, definatley the by-product of the 12AX7 in the preamp. Very sweet tone, can't overstate it. Clean channel is great too. Hook up a Les Paul or something similar and overdrive the amp, hit a power chord -HEAVEN!

I haven't had alot of the same experience at higher volumes, and find it just a tad shy for gigging with folks, but at lower volumes I defy anyone to find a sweeter sounding overdrive that won't get you evicted.

Never had a problem. Changed the tube once just for kicks, easy DIY operation.

Love it. Don't expect this guy to be an exciting road amp, but enjoy it at home and in the studio, like an old friend.

It's not known to this guitar player what year this rare beauty was crafted. I secured it via trades in 1994. See other reviews for features (same as RM-80-SR and other 40-SR reviews) The Head portion of this 1x12 combo is removable and rackmountable. Great Amp for direct home recording.

Sound Quality : 10
The Most endearing quality of this amp is the higher volume of the clean channel... It doesn't distort until you tell it to. Lot's of power in this 40 watt to rise above drums and bass in Jams. On stage you mic it anyway so what does it matter there? If you don't mic on stage it does sound really cool through a 2or4x12 cabinet. I was told by an amp tech today that it adds 30 more watts when a two 8ohm speakers are plugged in

Reliability : 8
Now that mine is back from the repair shop it works great! (a broken soder joint) Always carry fuses and tubes no matter what amp you use. Much lighter than a second amp.

none offered. Check out the RM-80-SR review. The name of the designer is given there. It's an amp. Any good amp tech should be able to figure it out.

Overall Rating : 10
A great Amp. I've never seen another I hope it sticks around for the duration.
