This Amp has an effects loop, a channel switch jack,a preamp out jack, a drive channel, a brightness control and three tone controls. This is a good medium power amp with transitor power section and tube pre-amp and reverb section. The sound is very smooth through 1 x 12" speaker. This is an excellent practice amp or for small clubs.

Sound Quality : 7
I use a semi - hollow Ibanez with this amp and it has a nice jazz sound. This is not a hard rock amp, but the distortion channel is nice for leads and switches from clean to lead smoothly. I have a statocaster that does not sound compatible with this amp (not enouph bite).

Reliability : 7
I currently use this amp to gig with for my keyboard but and it has never let me down there, but for high volumes it would start to break up with any heavy base. When I first got this it had a problem in the reverb channel with distortion (which the dealer fixed),but overall the amp is made very well.

I've tried to contact Dean Markley about technical information and schematics and got very limited information from Kamen Music who is the distributor. Your on your own!

Overall Rating : 8
I've had this amp for about 10 years and have enjoyed it - never regretted buying it. I currently have a Line - 6 AX 2-12 which is a much more versital and powerful amp. The SR 40 is certainly much easier to carry around and does have a sweet sound - but not raunchy. This is not the greatest but sounds better at low volumes than most of the products out there. Hard to beat for the price.

This is a great backup amp for GIGS, and on many occasions has been my main amp. Its main features are "Valve" preamp stage, built in Reverb and Distortion through 1 x 12inch speaker . Throw it in the car ... no worries ...

Sound Quality : 9
It is a great amp for clean guitar, ie strat, (I use a 1970 Tele). I use light distortion, and am very happy with what it produces. The valave preamp makes it I think ...

Reliability : 10
I brought this second hand, and it is one of the best deals I ever got. It has given me no trouble in the last 3 years.

Never needed customer support... I wouldnt mind a copy of the manual just for completeness, but dont know who to contact in Australia.

Overall Rating : 10
I love it compactness, sound and reliability..
