Features : 8
It's a brand new 50 W Diezel Combo which had been made in 2005. In general the EINSTEIN in more vintage orientated than the VH4 or the HERBERT Models are. Basically it's a two channel amp, switchable via hand or via footswitch. Channel one has three modes (clean, texas, crunch), which could be changed by hand through a switch at the front of the amp. Channel two is the "lead" channel and thus prown to play heavy chords or leadlines. Each channel has separate controls for treble, mids, reverb, bass, gain and volume. Both channels share Deep and Presence controls as well as two Master Volume sections, which alow to play the amp on different noise levels, which is a very usefull feature.

On the rear side there's one compensated out for recording, speaker outs for external 16, 8, 4 Ohm cabs or cab combinations, in/out for seriell FX-Loop, in/out for parallel FX-Loop (signal from 1-100% mixable), and two inserts for the reverb and master/channel control footswitches.

The cab is heavy duty and closed to 90% on the back. It's loaded with the 16 Ohm version of a Celestion Vintage 30 speaker.

Preamp section is running on 12AX7 tubes, except the reverb buffertube which is a 12YA. My Einstein has a power rating of 50 Watt and came with two JJ/Tesla EL 34 tubes, which I prefer, but KT66, KT88, 6550, 6L6, or 5881 power tubes can be used as well. Bias can be measured and altered directly by using the easily accessable inserts beneath the power tubes. For a two channel tube amp, which will be used in live situations, all the features are very usefull.

The Einstein has plenty of power and is loud enough to play in clubs up to 300 people without sending it over a P.A.

Sound Quality : 9
I'm basically using a Custom Stratocaster Model, made by a local guitar builder with single coils and a PRS Custom 22 with humbuckers.

I play Hard and Heavy, e.g. Hendrix, Gary Moore, Skid Row, Ozzy, Black Sabbath, Metallica as well as own stuff.

Concerning Channel 1, CLEAN is cristalclean and in some way comparable to the cleanchannel of a Roland Jazz Chorus on a certain setting. Its a very quiet channel with plenty of headroom, hard to run into distortion. In my opinion it's perfect for adding effects like chorus, flanger, phaser etc. Without effects it lacks a bit of "warmth" like I'm used to have from a Fender Twin for example.

TEXAS is the mode, where the Einstein really begins to shine. You want SRV sounds -no problem-. You want AC/DC sounds -no problem at all-. You want Gary Moore -just play it-. It just depends on the guitar you use, whether it's a Strat, a SG or a Les Paul and you would be able to nail the sound of your heros. Despite other amps I played in the recent years all controls are doing an excellent job and twiddeling around with the knobs is always able to run the whole gamut of sounds. Setting the gain control to 2 o'clock you can have a crunchy sound on your Les Paul and gather a good dynamic clean sound by rolling back the volume control of your guitar. Setting the gain control to 7 this beast really rocks.

CRUNCH delivers, if you want it, heavy distortion sounds which could easily be shaped to your needs by the tone controls. Particulary, when you are a player addicted to single coil guitars, you wouldn't miss the fatness of a humbucker at all. In most situations I play, I wouldn't have set the gain control beyond 6 or 7.

Channel 2 LEAD is really a leaque of its own. I owned a lot of amps in the last years, but I never had an amp which delivered such a "liquid as mecury" lead sound. Setting th gain control somewhere between 5 and 7, it seems as the guitar is playing leadlines by itself. Peter Diezel did a great job creating this lead channel.

Due to, that the back of the Einstein Combo is nearly closed, it produces plenty of punch. Despite its a 1x12 Combo, compared to a Boogie for example, its sounding not as focussed. The amp is very quiet compared to high gain capability.

Reliability : No Opinion
What I had to do (and this happened not only to the Diezel), was to tighten the screws of the speaker after a short time of playing. It's build like a tank (weights approximatly 65 lbs.).
Befor I rate this point, I gonna play it some more month.

Customer Support : 10
When I picked the amp and open the box at home I noticed, that the footswitches were missing. I talked to Peter Diezel and he promptly sended me two new footswitches. Excellent service !!!

Overall Rating : 2
I started playing in 1969 and formed my band COLESLAW in 1993. Beside own songs we play covers from AC/DC, Jimi Hendrix, Black Sabbath, Gary Moore, Mountain as well as more contemporary stuff.
Basically a Marshall player (I own a 50 W smallbox Model 1987 head from the year 1971) I couldn't become friend with modern Marshall sounds. Thus in the recent years I bought and sold several amps (e.g. KOCH Twintone, MARSHALL TSL 2000, BOGNER Shiva, H & K ZenTera, CORNFORD Hurricane, MESA Solorectifier etc.), but had never been completely satisfied with the overall features. Some sounded good distorted, but had weak clean sounds, other where good sounding but not loud enough and so forth. The Diezel Einstein so far combines great sounds with usefull features and is highky recommended for players, which are looking for a compact modern setup.
