The amp is 20/40 watts with a single input, (4) 6v6 power tubes (3) 12AX7 tubes and a solid state rectifier. The amp is beautifully hand wired on a epoxy fiber board. There is no reverb or effects loop, but in this type of amp that does not matter much. Traditional bass, mid, and treble controls and unique Bright and Normal volume controls. This amp is modeled after the Marshall Plexi amps, which had normal and bright inputs. I guess people would jumper the two inputs but this amp saves you the trouble. Both volumes are infinitely blend-able. The EQ controls have a wide range of tone shaping and you can get any guitar to work with this amp. I use this mostly with a Dr. Z Z-Best 2x12 ported cabinet which -- really -- is the best sounding 2x12 you will ever find.

Sound Quality : 10
Mostly I play a modded Strat with Lollar pickups and a G&L ASAT Classic S converted to (2) large MFD's and the standard bridge pickup. I don't use much for effects, generally a Mr. Springgy Reverb and a Fulltone Fulldrive. This amp really is a "10". I don't know what a Plexi sounds like, but to me this amp is neither Fender or typical Marshall, it's what you want it to be. The dual volume controls are tone controls themselves. The normal volume is very warm and a little bottom heavy, while the bright channel is a mildly raw with a lot of presence. Blending the two together creates a huge palette of possibilities. The tone controls are also powerful and can pretty much take you anywhere. I run the bass and mids around 9-10 and the treble at 12. This gives a good scooped-midrange sound for a Strat but still enough body to hang with the band. The amp has complex clean tones that are both full and bright with clear highs that are never fatiguing. While real crunch only happens at fairly high volumes, you get tons of harmonic complexity and a little "hair" at use-able levels. The touch and feel of amp is really sweet and you get that rectifier swell even though it's not a tube rectifier. The tone also seems to get warmer as the amp warms up. If you can't get a happening sound with this amp, it's you.

Reliability : 8
Inside, the Dr Z's are a work of art. However this amp did come with a flaky pilot light, and my Z28 amp had a transformer failure when about 3 days old. So despite the build quality, things do happen. The solid state rectifier does add some reliability as this is the tube that most often blows on the job. Fortunately, most Dr. Z amps are compact and weigh less than 25lbs. Bringing both to a gig is pretty easy and always a good idea with tube equipment.

OK, I've had a couple problems, but they answer their email and handle the problems quickly and efficiently. Plus the warranty is 3 years, which is a nice feature. They have a good online forum, and you can chat and ask questions their too.

I have been playing rock, R&B, and jazz for over 35 years, mostly Fenders and G&L guitars with minimal effects and processing. I have had a number of amps from Peavey, Mesa, Crate, Seymour Duncan and even a '67 Blackface Pro Reverb. I've unloaded my other stuff and gone totally Z for three main reasons: Tone, Simplicity and Size. Each Dr. Z is different but equally musical, the elegant design and simple controls create pure tones that are easy to dial in, and the fact that the heads and compact makes them easy to load/unload. At this point the Remedy is my hands down favorite, and while there might be something better out there, this amp gives little incentive to look

Just picked this one up a week ago, and I could not be happier. The amp can cover anything except metal, but it is possible to get a metal tone with a pedal.
The amp has a single blender channel with high and normal volumes. Power selector switch with either 20 or 40 watts.
4, 8, and 16 ohm inputs.
No effects loop, but takes pedals like a champ.
It has the basic eq with bass, mid, and treble. No gain.
4 6V6 tubes

This amp doesn't need a ton of knobs, its tone just screams bad***.

Sound Quality : 10
I'm currently using a 2001 American Deluxe HSS Stratocaster. The cleans on this thing are just gorgeous. This thing will pick up every aspect of your playing, so if you suck, move on. The amp is very quiet, noise depends more on your pickups though. This thing has a lot of headroom, but once it is pushed, classic crunch, similiar to the Black Crowes tone. Warm, never harsh, perfect for 60's and 70's rock. I can run from CCR tones to a Tom Morello tone with a Fulltone GT-500.

Reliability : No Opinion
Only had it a week, but Dr. Z has one of the best reputations in the business for reliability.

Customer Support : No Opinion
Haven't had to contact the guys, but once again, their reputation is among the best in the business.

I've been playing for 4 and a half years now, and worked my *** off this summer to buy this amp. I spent hours researching and trying out tube amps, and this one just fit perfectly. There's nothing to hate about this amp, it's just a wonderful tool for any musician. I was very close to purchasing a Bogner Shiva, which is a great amp, but this one did it for me. Add or take anything from it, it just wouldn't have the character it does. Try one if you ever get a chance. Only with pedals will you get metal tones, but crank it up and you can nail some old school EVH tones.

It's A Plexi style amp With BASS, MIDDLE, TREBLE, and High VOL and Normal VOL...I gave it a 10 Because of the 40 watt / 20 watt switch WOW !!! Now when I go to a GIG I don't have to ask myself which amp to bring...The 20 watter or the 40 watter... The only thing it does not have is an effects loop

Sound Quality : 10
I play Rock and Blues and it nails what I have heard in my head for 40 years..It sounds like a Marshall style amp ( 50 watt plexi with 4 6v6 power tubes... I played out with it for just two gigs and With my Gibson ES 339 and my Grosh Strat the sounds were beautiful. the Bass was full and the mids were full of harmonic overtones, and the Treble was never harsh...My playing went up a notch...I love Dr Zs stuff but this is my Favorite. I have had 50 or so amps in 40+ years of playing..This is my my fav' so far. I would give it an 11 if I could. Thanks Dock again...my second fav' amp is a Dr RX Jr. Try one. WARM!!!!! is the word plus Tonefull ,Headroom, Creamy, Thick and Harmonic Bloom... ON and On... Oh yea I'm just using a 1 x12 cab with an inexpensive Jensen Special Design. A 2x12 or a 4x12 must kill with this head.

Reliability : 10
I have never had a problem w/ Dr Zs amps in 5 years except for my bass player spilled beer into the inside of the amp, I don't play with him any more.

Customer Support : 10
GREAT !!!!!!

Overall Rating : 10
In 40 + years of playing this is my #1 amp...for the 1499.00 the other guys would price it at 2500.00. I would have to get another if it grew feet or was lost. Try A Z you'll get hooked. Got to www.drzamps.com and click on the REMEDY and check out the sound samples and multiply X2...
