This amp was the result of a conversation I had with Howard Dumble in 1968. At that time I was playing bass through a Sunn 200S with a 2 15" cabinet. Dumble asked me whay I chose the Sunn. I told him I had seen Jack Casady play through one at Winterland in San Francisco with the Jefferson Airplane and liked the sound. A month later, Dumble delivered two heads. They were labeled "Winterland" and were amps #3 and #4. He said to me" Iguess you'll beable to fill up Winterland now". The amp had 4 KT88 tubes witha Dynaco transformer and put out 220 watts at 8 ohms. It was loud enough. The amp was a single channel the volume, treble, bass and two boost swithes for treble and bass.

I used the amp for bass. Dumble was a bass player and he knew what I needed to sound good. No distortion on the bass, just a very clean tight bass sound.

The amp never failed. It was rock solid. The only mods I had done were new tubes, a banana plug, and a cooling fan for the tubes.

Dumble would do anything necessary to make the amp sound as good as when it was delivered.

I've been a pro bassist for over 42 years. I have a Sunn 200S and a Mesa Boogie Walkabout amp. The Dumble became too heavy (62lbs.) to haul to gigs. The Dumble is a good amp, I like it, but I believe a good musician can get the tone they want with almost any equipment if they just pay attention to their instrument and amp.

Built fo me in 1968 by Dumble. Tube amp w/ 4 KT-88s; amp produces 220 watts RMS@8ohms; single channel, have used this amp since it was new, no problems, built as a bass amp, amazing tone: warm and woody for a Fender jazz bass.

Use the amp with a 1964 jazz Bass for blues amd rock. No distortion just the best tone for bass.

The amp has never failed since I bought it from Dumble in 1968.

had a small fan installed to keep tubes cooler; had a banana jack also installed, nothing else. the amp tech worked for ZZ Top. have not needed Dumble to do anyting to the amp.

In june of 2004, I shall have been playing electric bass for 40 years. The amp cannot be replaced. I also use a Mesa Boogie bass amp. The founders of Mesa Engineering and Dumble are friends of mine.
