I just wanted to post another review, beacuse ow I've played a lot this amp.

Sound Quality : No Opinion
I'm now using it with Marshall 1960AV (Vintage 30's) - sounds wonderful. Now my guitar is Fender Telecaster with humbucker (SD Distortion model) in the bridge position. I'm also using Big Muff (original russian version) as a distortion pedal. That's really cool. I sound like Weezer on "Blue Album" !!!

Well, I had JCM900 head (early EL34 model) and that sucked. Especially clean channel. REX is great for clean and distortion. I changed tubes and it works really great. I recommend it to you all! Get this one if you had a chance!

BTW, if you want pictures of head or sound samples - please e-mail me at gsb@interia.pl, thanks

Dynacord "REX" head. Made in mid 1960's. All-tube, 40W power with 2x EL34 power tubes + 4xECC83 & 1xECC81 in the pre-amp. Some of the pre-amp tubes (two or three are tubes which handle tremolo effect on second channel)

2 channels (no foot-switching): 1st: clean, 2nd: clean w/tremolo. Head is pretty loud. If you turn up volume very loud you can hear some great compressed overdrive sound - that's normal in tube heads. Each channel has separate knobs for volume, high & low. No middle knob :/

On the clean (1st) channel there is a "boost" thing which boosts up low end and low/middle freq's - good thing. Each channel has 2 inputs. One "big jack" and second DIN. At jack input you can place your guitar, and into DIN input you can place a microphone. These inputs have different characteristics (dB). Also there is another DIN input for an optional Dynacord ECHO unit. Tremolo channel has regulation of width and height of the tremoloed signal + volume of course. In my opinion this channel gets more overdiven than the first one if you put volume up.

Output: I don't know if it has 8 or 16 ohm. But it works well with my Marshall C410B 4x10'' cab which is set at 16 ohm.

On the front of the head you can see also external output (says 15 ohm) for 2 external speakers/cabs, but it's not a jack thing, but smth like this input like in your home audio-speaker system. I've never tried this output (maybe this is a line-out thing? - I don't know)

This head is almost 70cm wide, and about 10-15cm high. So it's smaller than Marshall's JCM 800 or 900. It's medium-weight.

Sound Quality : 9
I am using it thru Marshall 4x10'' cabinet equipped with Celestion 30W speakers. My axes are, Fender Telecaster with humbucker-PAF (bridge), and Fender Stratocaster with humbucker too. I play classic 50's rock and roll on single-coils and tremolo channel.

I also play california punk-based style, like Weezer, Blink-182, etc. I am using this setup: Fender Telecaster > BOSS Turbo Distortion DS-2 > Dynacord REX. Sounds great. This amp plays well with distortion pedals probably 'casue it's on EL34's (sounds like Marshall warm distortion)

Clean tones are amazing! - using a humbucker it sounds like Mesa/Boogie Triple Rectifier!!! (it's just the same sound like intro of "Adam's Song" by Blink-182 from album "Enema of the State" - listen to it!). I gave it 9/10 because it does not have middle-freq adjustment. This will probably help to have greater sounds on this head.

Reliability : 10
I never had problems with it. It's from the 60's but still running, still looking nice and still having great sound :)

Dynacord now produces power-mixers and power-amps as audio equipment. They don't produce guitar amps anymore, but... I went to their website (www.dynacord.com) and aksed about this amp. And I got reply within 5 hours! it's great! I mean, they are great. I asked their if they have any manuals for this head, photos etc. And I'll buy it from them. NO WAY! - They sent me all these things (copies, but also great) on my home address and it was in my mailbox week after my mail to them! They're so cool! So they are a company who CARE about their products made in the past and the customers which are happy with their old amps. I never had a chance to get better customer support than Dynacord.

Overall Rating : 9
I can depend on this head. Maybe I'll change tubes and see how the sound change. Maybe with new Philips, Mullard or Sovtek tubes it will sound greater?! Also, I wish it had the middle freq adjustment too... Anyway, it's a very good sounding head.

I will probably buy Marshall JCM 600 or 900 head in the near future, and compare to it. But now I have Dynacord and it will be my one&only amp to gig! Rock And Roll people!
