Very nice tone both clean and dirty. Currently playing through a Genz Benz El Diablo 100 watt head. Sound is slightly nasal for my taste, but corrected by scooping out mids and adding more bass.

I'll try and compose myself here. The owner (Tim) is probably a very nice guy who is currently in over his head. I was pretty much dicked around on this cab for 3 months. (It took almost 5 months to get it) I was told originally that the cab would be 6 weeks tops. Then after a couple of bogus tracking numbers, working with my bank to file a claim, and various emails to Tim I received my cab in June of 2008.

I've been playing 25 years and know what good tone is. You sometimes can get it from a broken down old box or spend tons of dough chasing it. This cab is really nice looking and does sound good, but not worth the headache IMHO.

Just got this cabinet delivered June 2008. I ordered sight unseen based mostly upon stuff I read about the company on the internet. I cannot tell you how very impressed I am with the final product. I ordered a two input stereo setup for my Mesa TriAxis preamp and 2:90 amp. The cabinet has a nice wheat cloth grill, stereo inputs, GreenMachine speakers and it sounds just incredible. I have been using a Mesa/Boogie 4 x 12 top slant with half back and needed a more portable cabinet. No hype, this cabinet is absolutely awesome.

I use stratocasters and I hope to play with the tone and passion of Clapton, Beck, Santana, Derek Trucks and such. I can get all the sounds I want from this cabinet and have just played it a few hours at this point. If your playing sucks, it will let you know real quick because the articulation and response is fantastic.

Since it's new, I can't speak from experience but it is very well made and you will not find quality like this in mass production shops.

Tim at EarCandy was very responsive and always replied to my inquiries even though I probably worried him to death. I like doing business with family owned samll businesses and that's exactly what you get. Down home service with real care about what the customer expects and wants. It's only fair to mention that the build and delivery time were longer than originally expected. However, I'm serious when I say it was well worth the wait in my opinion. If you're in a hurry for a cabinet, you probably don't want a custom EarCandy cabinet. If you're looking for a great value in a cabinet, give Tim time to build one for you.

I've been playing semi-pro over 35 years and have used a lot of gear. This cabinet has the glass, the crunch, the air, and the sustain that we all usually want. This is the best purcahse I;ve ever made. I think it's a great deal for the quality of workmanship and price.

Let me say this first of all...
I hate Celestions. I think they're limited in tonality, color your tone too much...and that's not a good thing. Celestions, while being very reputable, are overrated in my opinion. I find their bass flats out far too quickly, their mids have limited harmonic content and are too compressed, the highs are too sharp (thus the term "ice-pick highs" being associated with Celestions), they distort too easily, don't clean up as nicely as you want on high gain amps, lack articulation, and lose integrity very quickly. Ok, there's my rant! lol.
Now, I was originally going to go with some Eminence speakers in this thing...Swamp Thangs or Legends. This stemmed from, not only my obvious dislike for Celestions, my need for a speaker that allows a range of tones. After much research, I had decided Eminence were the way to go BUT I was quickly deterred from this after much discussion from me and EarCandy Cabs owner, Tim. We discussed my needs and set up and advised me to go with the Green Machines. This was a decision I did not regret. I was skeptical about these speakers at first, having never heard them before, but once my cab was plugged in and I was playing...I was blown away. Finally! Speakers that were full, harmonically complex, had lots of power, tons of headroom, and no ice-pick highs while still retaining its top end. Not only could these speakers create a wonderful shimmer while playing clean but the distortion (at any amount) was smooth, full, complex and fully adjustable to whatever I dialed into my amp head.
(For the record, my setup is a stock Ibanez RG7620, into a Carvin V3 head, connected with Monster cable.)
I have no qualms about this cab. I've played it against a VHT 4x12, a Mesa 4x12 AND 2x12, a Marshall 4x12 and a Genz-Benz cab...all of which it proved to loader than as well as far more versatile. The only cab that I thought was as good as this was the VHT (which is loaded with VHT/Eminence speakers). This cab has articulate, full and brutal low end, full and complex mids, singing, smooth and sparkling highs and, best of all, all of them can be adjusted to as much or little as you like. It does flawlessly with both clean and gain.
(OH! I play metal (BLS, KSE, Opeth, Shadows Fall, LoG, Metallica, Megadeth, Bodom, etc.), hard rock (Breaking Benjamin, Alter Bridge, Crossfade, HIM, etc.), classic rock (GnR, Hendrix, the Who, the Clash, etc.) and blues (mainly stuff I improve, SRV, Hendrix (again), BB King, etc.) primarily. I attempt Jazz and can fake country but the above four are my preferred.

hehe I certainly have some interesting stories in this field. Let me start by saying EarCandy provides a custom bass and guitar cabs via request. I believe they're located in LaPorte, Indiana.
Now for the interesting part. I ordered my cab about February after much discussion with the owner, Tim. My first impression was that of a very professional company with a pleasant, helpful and cooperative owner. Once I had ordered my cab and told my money was ok to go, they gave me a time frame of about 4-6 weeks. Not only that, I was told that they would provide pictures and updates on the progress of my order as often as possible. All of this sounds great to me! Well, 4 weeks into it all, I hadn't received one picture, email, phone call, letter on the situation of my cab. I email Tim and he tells me that they had been having issues with their computer system (which holds all their order and contact info). Being the guy I am, I think nothing of it and continue on my business. 6 weeks after my order, still nothing. 2 months later, nothing. 3 months later, nothing. I finally get fed up after about 4 months time and email them asking for information regarding the situation of my cab. I get a quick reply (that was one big plus for them, they reply to everything very quickly and politely) telling me that my cab is almost done and should be sent out in 3 days. At this point I was jubilant that I was getting my long awaited expense...another month later it finally arrives at my door ( a time in which I ask about it several times and get a FedEx delivery notice that they received the information and were tracking it. It didn't move anywhere for two weeks).
To sum it up, the guys are very nice and polite, do excellent work and provide a wonderful service for affordable prices BUT I was not pleased about a lot of things in their service. Be warned!

Wow! I rant too much! Oh well!
In the end, my cab is a wonderful item in my rig and may be one of the only factors that will never change. It is everything I could want in a cab and, better still, EarCandy continues to add features to cabs in the future. If this cab got stolen or lost, that guy wouldn't have a chance at survival lol...either that or I'm going to make him buy two for me! This is by and far a superior product and I will surely order from them again (let's hope I have better luck with service next time!). Whether you like Celestions or not, EarCandy can provide you with it all and make a killer cab for anyone.

I ordered my Buzzbomb 2x12 empty so I'm reviewing the enclosure alone.
Short, squat, DEEP little cab. 28(w)x18(h)x16(d)
Blond tolex back and sides, Diablo (red/black swirl) front with a full black steel grill, top hat handles, all black hardware, tuned and ported.
As stated in other reviews, everything is custom built for you and there are LOTS of great options. All materials are top of the line. You can even choose what kind of wood your cab is made of (all 12 ply voidless AAA).
My cab showed up well packed and ready to wire up. It's nothing short of amazing looking and I get lots of comments on it at shows.

I play rhythm guitar in a progressive rock band with classic rock influences and some modern high gain sound thrown in there. I play through a Soldano HR50 and have been looking for that chunky AC/DC tone but a little dirtier.
Once paired with the Buzzbomb and the correct speakers, I achieved pretty much exactly what I was looking for. Thick low end, smooth and sparkly highs, and a nice rich sounding midrange. The Soldano used to sound kind of nasaly and tended to hurt my ears...problem solved.
Since I'm mostly reviewing the enclosure I'd like to explain how important the cabinet itself is. So here's the whole story if you're interested.
Previous to the Buzzbomb, I used a Marshall 1960a 4x12 cabinet with Celestion G75T's in it. It was a mediocre bassless cab at best.
I had ordered a set of Weber's but was informed that it would be another few weeks until they arrived. So, I tore out the Celestions from the 4x12 and put them in my Earcandy until my new speakers came.
Wow, they didn't even sound like the same speakers. Seemed to be almost twice as loud with enormous presence and a very heavy defined low end. It wasn't the exact sound I was looking for, but this "box" turned okay speakers into gems. Amazing.
I eventually received a Weber Ceramic Blue Dog and Silver Bell (pre-rola treatment) and am addicted to the way these things sound. The cab is very responsive, punchy, musical, and in your face all at once. You can't get this kind of attack with an open or closed back cab...the porting does an amazing job.

This thing is rock solid.
My only issue is that the tolex is very soft and easy to tear. Don't get me wrong, it's top quality thick stuff...but I've already dinged it up :'(
I should be receiving a much needed cab cover in a few days.

There is nothing like working one on one with small companies and I'll never go back to the Marshall and Fender like corporations again.
This company consists of one man and his wife. When you call or e-mail, you speak directly to Tim (owner/builder). You don't wait weeks for replies or sit on hold for hours.
E-mails are answered within 24 hours, always with helpful and correct information. My phone calls were returned promptly and Tim walked me through a few wiring questions.
Really really great customer service.

I've been playing guitar for something like 8 years but have only been playing seriously on the electric for the last two years. I played acoustic most of the time before.
I have a good ear for tone and I get to hear a lot of junky equipment being played badly at Guitar Center (I'm a door guy). So, I went out in search of an alternative to over-priced Mesa and Orange cabs and stumbled upon Earcandy.
It's been a blessing. Nothing on the market sounds or looks as good as these cabs. And at $600 (Cab$400+Speakers$200), you're paying about what you would for a mass production Marshall 2x12 with Chinese made Celestions. On top of that, the Buzzbomb really puts a 4x12 to shame.

If you think of options as features, then the Buzzbomb has the best set of features in the industry. For just about every aspect of the cabinet you are given options which are all part of the cost. All the materials are top quality and Tim hand selects every piece of wood that goes into each cabinet.
Mine is black tolex with translucent blue baffle and black grill cloth. The wood is birch. It is wired for 8 ohms.

The sound is what this cab is all about. The old Marshall 1936 I had pales in comparison. Even the Avatar I owned for a while can't compare sonically (although Dave at Avatar is top notch and builds a solid product).
I play a Marshall TSL100 that has the deluxe Voodoo mod and a standard DSL50 into this cab. Both amps just come alive when I play them through the Buzzbomb. You can hear the detail much clearer and the amp/cabinet mix is much more organic. I feel like I have a much stronger connection to my playing. The downside is that every nuance, especially through the TSL, of my playing gets reproduced. The upside is that every nuance gets reproduced so my playing has improved and I feel it more.
I have a pair of SugarCone speakers in the cab. They are made only for Earcandy and these speakers a clear and warm and very balanced. I used to have to turn the bass down on my amps because the other cabs were too boomy or couldn't handle the bass when the volume got up. The Earcandy stays consistent from low volume to way beyond ear bleed. I have more bass in the EQ now and it is not distracting or distorting. It is just solid deep bass that gives breadth to the amp tone. This is the same for the modded TSL and the stock DSL.
Things seem louder because of the Earcandy Buzzbomb, but I think that is just because the sound is so much more clear and articulate.
In the world of 2x12 cabs this is truly at the top of the list. It also sounds better than most 4x12s I've heard especially at high volumes where they get kind of flubby.

This cab is made to last. Attention to detail and quality materials are very evident. On top of that you have Tim's patent applied for system which lets him bulid the cab like a drum so he can adjust the tension on each side so they are constant all around. That is why the back is not removable.
When I got mine, I made sure it worked and then I took one of the speakers off to look inside. Yes, Tim uses 8 screws per speaker, not 4 like everyone else. I looked inside and it was not must immaculate, the wiring and connections were done to a best in class standard. Tim also signed the inside specifically to me, as he does for all his cabs. That was a nice surprise.
This cabinet is made to last a long, long time. I plan to keep it and hope my 2 year old will someday develop a love of guitar so I can hand it on to him.

You've got to love Tim's passion and commitment. He got a little frazzled this summer between weather, some personnel issues and general logistics due to a huge demand for his custom cabs and desiging a new series of cabs while testing a huge array of speakers. As a result my cab was very late in getting to me.
My ruffled satisfaction was salved quite a bit by the sound and quality of the cab, so I'm rating him high, but not perfect. The great thing, because I still stay in touch, is that he has improved the delivery times and solved some other problems, so he is back on track. Doing all of that while still keeping up with all his email and phone calls was pretty commendable. All through the process he kept me informed and never let me think he wasn't committed to getting me my cab. You've got to love the heart and soul he puts into each cab that comes out of his shop. I will have to ding him for the delays, though

This cabinet gives me a huge sound at any volume in a much more transportable size. Because of the customization, it looks just like I wanted it and it is built like a tank. I've had it for several months now and the speakers are nicely breaking in and getting sweeter all the time. I would definitely order another (and probably will, someday). I can't think of anything I wish it had. The only thing I wish it had was about an inch more width so that it matched my Marshall - but that is not a big deal at all.

Let me start by saying that I've played (and/or owned) just about every cab out there. Marshall, Orange, Hiwatt, Fender, Diezel, Mesa, Bogner, CAE (Bob Bradshaw), Randall, Vox, Crate, H&K, EV...the list goes on. I've stuck mostly with 412s because there's just something 'open' sounding about them. Not to mention they're loud and have that sweet 412 bass response.
And now. After countless wasted dollars and hours, I have found my baby. I feel wonderful and terrible all at once. I mean. It seems me search is over - which is great! BUT! I feel like all these years of searching have been a waste! ANYHOW...onto the review
I tend to be one who doesn't fall for hype. And, as you can see, there is some kind of hysteria surrounding these cabs. Just like the Atkins diet or magnetic bracelets. So I didn't give it much credence. My mistake ALL THE WAY! This cab is way more than it was cracked up to be. It is, truly, the first cab I can use for (literally) everything. I can't understand it. All my years of listening have taught me that this is impossible, but alas, it's true. Here's what I've done with it.
I did this thinking that there was NO way my 18watt little guy could push around 200 watts of speaker. Boy was I wrong. I didn't buy this cab for its cleans but holy crap! It sounded beautiful. Buttery (amazingly un-woofy) bass, present mids and crystalline top end. I couldn't believe it! Not to mention, my amp didn't have to work its butt off to move some air!
The Johnson is as 'tubey' as digital and solid-state can sound, in my opinion. But even running into a tube power amp, it's still *cough* solid-state. I dig this setup because I can really work the cab out. I can pretend to be an old AC30 or a new DC30 or a Twin or...or...or... This cab handled them all really really well. And to boot, it cut down on that digital sterility that I'm used to with this amp. Definately made the Johnson sound a lot more 'round.' Something about even order harmonics methinks.
Finally. The rig I bought it for:
Suhr Chambered Standard -> array of badass stompboxes -> (pretty much) Stock Mesa Dual Rectifier (Ibanez AD202 in the loop) -> BuzzBomb
Well. Wow. That pretty much sums it up. Whatever I told the amp and guitar to do - that's what came out of the speakers. If I wanted Fendery clean - no problem. Nasally/Marshally - BING! Thick and creamy saturation - easy. I am simply amazed. If I can think it up, this cab will reproduce it. And, like I said, I'm naturally a skeptic. But when faced with the truth, I had to accept it. This cab with these speakers will do it all. I set the amp up for a Marshall-esque crunch on Ch. 1, Petrucci inspired liquid lead on Ch. 2 and nu-metal/rip-your-face-off chunk on Ch. 3. It does them all perfectly. Simply amazing.
Reliability

Well. I can't speak to reliability yet. But Mr. Paulsen at EarCandy has a very generous warranty program. I can say, however, (after owning just about everything else) that it's built like a damn brick. I'm not worried about breaking it any more than I'm worried about a rock breaking my house. But, to be fair to the builder, I can't mark him down just because I don't know firsthand how reliable it is. So I'll put '10' until something goes wrong. Seems fair :)
Customer Support
:10
I wish this could go higher than 10. My favorite thing about this cab is the builder. Mr. Paulsen has gone out of his way time and again to make me JUST what I wanted. Every e-mail got a response. Every question was answered. And he was terribly patient with me and my querky questions and requests. As good as the BuzzBomb is, the man behind it is better.
Overall Rating

I could go on and on about this thing, but I'd just be rambling. Bottom line is that all the hype is, well, true. This thing doesn't just compete with other 212 or 412, it smokes them in every way. Richer, more well-defined bass. Pleasant, well-stated mids. Glassy, articulate highs. Wonderful compression. It has it all, man! Get one and be done with buying cabs forever. It's a relatively inexpensive endeavor, all things considered.

I've had my 2 buzzbombs 212's for about a year now, and I LOVE them. I've played through a Marshall 412, a Framus 412, and a Mesa, and the tone I get out of my Earcandy's just blows those cabs away. I like the fact that I was able to call Tim up and have these things custom built however I wanted.

Even using a solid state head, they still sound great. I can't wait to get a tube head. The hype surrounding these cabs is becoming legendary...and, I was truly aching at the anitcipation of finally getting my own to play thru. How dissappointing it has been. It's the most obnoxious, nasally, honky sounding cabinet that I've ever had the displeasure of suffering. I hate it...now, if huge honking mid-range is your style, then you'll love it and this cabinet is for you. Me, I want open, airy, crunchy tone that only comes from a 4x12 cabinet...this thing isnt even close. I wouldnt be half as dissappointed except they are advertised as being able to hold their own with a 4x12 (and they even cost as much as a mid-grade 4x12)...they even claim that the Ear Candy can out perform most 4x12's! It's simply not true...the hype is just that...hype...someday, people will begin to see that the emperor has no clothes...these cabs cant hold a candle to a 4x12. If you want a super articulate, huge mid-range sounding 2x12 then buy one...if you want a replacement for your 4x12, you'll be very dissappointed.

They all blow the EC buzz bomb away...no competition at all. I just dont think its possible to make a 2x12 sound anything even close to a 4x12...I wish it were possible because I hate lugging around a 4x12 cabinet...but, life is too short to compromise tone, so I pop a few more back pills and load my 4x12 cabinets for every gig...no matter how small. My other equipment is an Egnater M4, VHT 2/50/2, TC Electronic G System all housed in an A&S shock mount rack and connected with Van Du Hul Hybrid Integration cables. I bought this cab in 2004 I think; I don't remember it was a while ago. But, I have the all black cab with a birch shell and mahogany front/back, it has two ports, a metal grill, locking jack, earcandycane wiring, and Eminence Swamp Thang speakers, 8 ohms mono.
They are a custom boutique cab company so you can get your cab(s) set up however you want. You think it, they build it. Pretty sweet!

Even though I have had this cab for a while I still can't believe the sound it puts out. If I had to sum it up in one word I would say it sounds "true", because it seems to let the amp speak with its true voice loud and crystal clear. I'm into melodic death metal, Gothenburg (Swedish-death metal), progressive metal, some power metal, some symphonic, and some black metal. I am a total hack at classical, blues, and jazz, but I greatly appreciate those styles of music as well. I have two guitars a B.C. Rich NJ Classic Series Mockingbird neck through with EMG 81/bridge and a EMG 60/neck, and an Ibanez RG2EX1 with Duncan JB/bridge and Jazz/neck.
Compared to my Avatar 4X12 custom with Eminence Wizards, the BuzzBomb sounds like it has more bass, more mid, and slightly more treble. The BuzzBomb flat out destroys the Avatar when I use the cabs together and it has a wider spread filling the room with sound. The avatar sounds like it is struggling to push out its muffled, mid-scrapey tone. It's quite convenient having 4x12 volume in a 2x12 size, much easyer on the back, more space, and the look on people's feces when they hear this thing! People underestimate my rig when they first see it, they think it won't be woud enough, but they can't believe the Buzzbomb's power when it dominates!
I went through a few amps with this cab, started out with a B-52 AT-100(tooooo many things broke down, sounded generic to me, no response), Peavey Triple XXX(quite awesome, versatile, beast of an amp, extreme gain, not too warm), and a few months ago I got a Peavey 6505+(perfect blend of brutal gain and warm tubey goodness, killer lead tone, not as much gain as the XXX, less versatility, the tone is more than worth it!) The Buzzbomb sounds amazing with all of these amps especially the 6505+, it eats 4x12s for breakfast! I am selling my Avatar cab and getting another Buzzbomb with different speakers for more tonal options. I am almost afraid of using two of these simultaneously; the massive volume level would probably strike me down or something! Using one is enough I think; it lets you open up your amp more. Also, it is a good idea to use the EarCandyCane speaker cable if they still sell them.

I had it for a couple years, I transported it quite a lot, my friend's 300 lb girlfriend sat on it and it survived!!! It was a coffee table for a short time (more pionts for versatility)! It was at a practice space with no heat/ac for about a year and it feels/plays just as solid as the day I got it, definitely built to last. The speakers each are capable of 150 watts handling so I am not ever worried about blowing a speaker! Would gig w/o a backup.

Tim Paulsen's customer service is actually the best I have ever had in my history of ever buying anything! He will take the time and make absolute sure you get the best tone out of your gear and Earcandy cab(s). He builds your cab based on the type(s) of music you play and the rest of the gear going into it. There are no unhappy customers because this product accurately responds to your gear's tone. Tim is a gentleman and an acoustics genious.

I have been playing for 5 years now, with the last 3 years being much more intensive. If my cab was stolen or lost I would most definitely buy another, I am hooked for life! I love it's amazing pure tone, wide spread, and projection, there is absolutely nothing I hate. Other than my Avatar cab I also had a chance to play it next to a Kranenstein half stack when I was in my old band and it more than held its own against that monster! Any thing I wish it had? Something to separate it from contact with my amp head at loud volumes so it doesn???t vibrate the crap out of the tubes/components. Oh wait, Tim already thought of that, put a piece of Earcandy's Iselation foam between the head and cab and it will remedy that problem, and that is a big problem because in some cases it can half the lives of your tubes. Anything else I would like to share? Well it's simple if you like awesome guitar tone, do yourself a favor and check out an Earcandy cab, you will not regret it. Thank you for taking the time to read my review, now get back to playing guitar!
