Electrosonic Amplifiers Orbitron Head

The orbitron head is a custom designed 45 watt head built by Josh at Electrosonic Amplification. The features are a hi-gain pre-amp, 6 position rotary control that dumps more low-end and fuzz into the preamp the farther right you click it. The tonestack is based on a early seventies hiwatt dr103. The idea of this amp was to be able too go from a hiwatt clean to hiwatt hi-gain to an orangeish cleans to hi-gain. It also has a mid range fat switch and a slope control that varies the amount of low mids that get to the bass and mid controls. The combination of the tonestack the 6 position FAC control and the slope control allows for a multitude of different tones especially when clean. The tube compliment is 2xe34ls 2x12ax7M and 1x12at7 for the phase inverter. The built quality is top notch solid 3/4" poplar cab built in a wacked out jetsons futuristic shape. It is all handwired on turret boards and is very neatly wired ala hiwatt 90 degree bends on the wires. Has Hammond transformers Solen filter caps
Ohmite resitors,Sprague coupling capacitors, and an aluminum chassis. The cabinet is sprayed with orange polyurethane textured coating that is used by the military and industries such as bedliners for mining trucks. The stuff looks great and it is so tough that i dont think anything will ever happen to the finish. It has a cool green E logo that lights up behind the center cut out. The amp and matching cab is absolutely stunning looking!!! My design, Josh made it happen.

This amp sounds enormous!!!! Through the huge electrocab 4x12 I have, this amp definitely sounds like A hot rodded Hiwatt. The cleans are superb, very shimmery and clear with alot of balls to it...this is where the rotary and the slope controls come in, when i set the rotary to its deepest setting and back off the slope control a bit, I get this very round sounding very warm clean tone that reminds me alot of peter greens tones on early fleetwood mac. It has that awesome upper mid ring that hiwatts are famous for. This characteristic stays with it even when the hi-gain mode is engaged and the gain is dimed...sort of a "Run-Away train" distortion if that makes any sense. The Fac control is set up for pos 1 hiwatt normal pos 2 hiwatt brill and it adds more lowend and changes the mids the farther you turn it. This has the affect of making your palm mutes go from this incredibly aggressive cracking kind of sound to a more broader and wider sounding thump at the other end of it. The lowend gets enormous..it sounds like a ten thousand pound jackhammer slamming into the ground. I play alot of different types of music from 60's brit rock (who,stones,beatles,kinks) to seventies style stoner/doom too early nineties new york hardcore to rage aginst the machine etc etc. I mostly dick around whith stuff of my own that owes to those influences.
And this thing is perfect for all that. It is chimier than a hiwatt ever was too it dosent feel as sterile or as piercing as the hiwatts sometimes do. This amp also is amazing in that it dosen't color different guitars...it extracts every nuance of the circuitry and style of guitar you are playing through it, and because it so clean and pure it tracks every little thing you do..it covers up NOTHING. Mistakes and wrong notes and lazy chord changes ring out like no tommorow and thats exactly what i wanted. This thing is a rhythymn guitarists wet dream...incredibly dynamic the harder you whack the strings the the more grit and soaring mettallic ringing you get. Think the "big guitar ending" on pink floyds "sheep" and that will give you an idea of what this thing can do. With the Fac control all the way right with it cranked in lo-gain mode it gets a nice warm sounding orangeish fog that stays pretty clear...when doing the stoner thing using a hi-output humbucker in the bridge is highly recomended...something with a good amount of tight low-end. In hi-gain mode it can do a great sabbath, modern doom like sleep, and if i put the FAc control on three or four i can get a killer tool overdrive. It might do some metal with super hi output pickups like emg's. I think a clean boost might take it into modern metal. This thing loves pedals as well echoes phasers overdrives sound great!!! The echoes and phasers sound very "seventies" through it, Pink floyd, Radiohead coldplay it is great for textural stuff...I nailed "bullet the blue sky" from U2 with the echo pedal. And with the small stone can you "breathe in the air"?

I would gig with it with back-up tubes. It is very very well built and simply designed. But the power tubes run at like 500 volts on the plates sooo.........

Josh is awesome....There was so much detail that went into this amp it was mind boggling. I got to specify everything...colors, the weight of the magnets on the speakers, the circuit, how i wanted the circuit to sound. The pictures on the control panel etc. It was a pretty amazing experience to be able to do that and i know of no other boutique amplifier company that allows its customers so much freedom to get what they want..............You Can literally specify ANYTHING. Josh answers all emails and I know if I have any problems at all he will bend over backwards for me. The amp and cab were so huge that the prices he quoted me for shipping were way off..and he paid the over amount which was half of the shipping yup it was double the quote and he even said forget standard ups freight and sent my amp PRIVATE COURIER from Indiana to Massachusetts. I payed only the original quote.....How is that for amazing customer service? The warranty is for a year...I have no worries.

I have benn playing for about seven years and this is my first really nice amp and I am very satisfied. The reason I picked this company was it allowed for me to dream up a "mutant" amplifier of sorts that had the controls and abilites from two different amps. The only downside is it is massively huge and not very portable. This amplifier is def MY sound and thats what i wanted. It has some unique abilities.
