10" speaker used to replace stock Fedner speaker in a cheap Frotnman 25R amp.

I bought the Lil Buddy for jazzier tones than the anemic stock speaker afforded, but to be honest, the Lil Buddy soudns excellent in this amp for any kind of music. I usually hate the Fedner SS OD tone built into its amps, but with the lil Buddy, I think I could gig with the Frontman 25R if I still gigged. It's loud, clear, warm, and on the bridge pup with distortion, it sounds excellent with my $200 Squier Tele or my 1984 Ibanez AM50 archtop.
I've used a bunch of 10" speakers in small tube amps, other fender SS amsp like the Princeton chorus and others, but the Lil Buddy beats even the Weber speakers, imo.

VERY warm, some would say 'dark.' Definitely different. It has a slightly smaller magnet, slightly different looking cone and much larger dome than a Tone Tubby ceramic 10.

This speaker would be good for taming an overly bright amp or for use in tandem with other brighter speakers or maybe by itself for jazz. However, if you are looking for a full-range single 10 inch speaker for a combo this one does not have enough high end IMO. It does NOT, repeat does NOT have nearly as much high end as a Tone Tubby 10, which is itself a somewhat warm speaker. The Copperhead and Ragin Cajun are both excellent full-range 10 inch Emi speakers.

Your basic 10" speaker with ceramic magnet, AND hemp cone!

I put two of these on top in a 4x10 Fender Hot Rod DeVille that was modded by Jim Price at Omega Amps. I put an Eminence Copperhead in one side beneath them, and an Eminence Ragin Cajun on the other side beneath the Lil Buddys. When I mic the Lil Buddy, I get the smooth hempcone resonance with all the warmth needed for jazz work. I mic the Copperhead or the Ragin Cajun when doing rock or more pop/country recording. But the real treat is the sound of all four speakers together. With boost and more boost the distortion sounds rival a Dumble Overdrive... it is awesome.
Some times I plug the speakers from this combo into my Mesa Lone Star Special and it has a great tone with easy breakup with lovely clarity.

These speakers are well built and heavy. They are bigger than the speakers that came with my DeVille but the rubber wrap that is around the magnet makes for perfect insulation for the places with a tight squeeze. No problems in over 100 hours of use now.

I wrote to them and called many times to figure out the combination of speakers that would give me the best tones for jazz and rock. The tech support is prompt and informative and helped me make the right choices in speakers for my 4x10 deville.

For the price you cannot beat the quality of these speakers. This is not to say that they are cheapened by the low price. I liken them to Hartley Peavey's pricing that is very reasonable for a high quality product.
And at these prices it is affordable to swap out or mix and match speakers when you have the desire to do so.
I own some Celestion G12-65H speakers in a Port City 2x10 cabinet, and I find Eminence to be on a par with the Celestions for what I want them to do.
The tricky bit was in ordering them. Music123 had them on backorder for 4 months so I finally paid a bit more and purchased them from another online retailer.

It's a 50W, 8 ohm, 10" speaker with a ceramic magnet and a hemp cone. Not a whole lot of other features a speaker can really have.

I bought this speaker to replace a Jenson P10R which is a notoriously bright and harsh speaker. That speaker came stock in my Star Nova and it sounded ok, but often a little to brittle and piercing for my taste. I wanted something to warm it up and soften the highs. After lots of research I decided this was my speaker. I did strongly consider a Tone Tubby, but when it came right down to it the Alnico magnet speaker wouldn't actually fit in my amp (I don't think anyway...never tried it, but the measurements didn't look promising) and while the ceramic magnet one would have fit, once I looked at this for the significantly less money it seemed like a better buy.
Not sure if it's the hemp cone or some other design aspect of the speaker but it sure did exactly what I wanted it to do. It sounded good out of the box, but now, after probably 15-20 hours of playing on it, it sounds excellent. Warm and full without any of the harsh high end that I had from the Jenson. This has changed my Star Nova from a good amp to an amazing amp.

I would buy this again without hesitation if something were to happen to it. I love what this speaker has done for my amp. Carr uses this as the stock speaker in the new Mini Mercury and I think others should follow. My Star Nova is an incredibly well built amp that sounded good, but not great with the stock speaker. With this in it it sounds amazing though.

A 10", 50 watt, 8ohm hemp cone speaker ??? the answer to my dreams! And a fraction of the price of a Tone Tubby...
Sound Quality
:

I've been tearing my hair out trying to tame the treble on my 1966 Epiphone Comet 1x10 amp (12.5 watts, reverb, tremolo)... First, I swapped out the original CTS speaker for a Jensen P10Q reissue, which was too 'ice picky'. Then I loaded in a Gallien Kreuger mid-bass speaker ??? great bass, but still couldn't take the treble past 1.5 without it feeling like someone was exploring your ears with knitting needles, and not warm enuff... After that, I gave up with the internal speaker setup, and plugged in a 2x10 open backed cab with two vintage ELAC speakers, nice but not much volume and too muddy to hear the reverb properly... At the end of my tether, and convinced that there was a great speaker out there somewhere, I tried to find a UK dealer for Weber speakers/Tone Tubby, to no avail, and even with the great US-UK exchange rate, buying direct was too expensive...
But, finally, the Lil Buddy was recommended on a forum I discovered thru Googling... Using a '52 Tele with a Broadcaster bridge p-up and US standard neck p-up, I can now get some serious 'woof' from my amp, with smooth definition, and depending on my pick attack, no 'ice pick' from the top strings, or just edging into classic searing 'Tele twang' territory...
I've now been running the Lil' Buddy for approx eight-ten hours (including six hours with an iMac connected directly to the speaker, playing bass-heavy music and the cab laid face-down, to make the cone 'work' harder and become flexible quicker) ??? what can I say? Increased volume, am having to turn the bass down and treble up... the more I use the Lil Buddy, the creamier, smoother and responsive it sounds...
If you've got an over-trebly amp, this is the solution...

Only had it two weeks! Eminence stuff seems very well constructed, so no worries there, especially seeing as the amp's only 12.5watts (but now sounds like 17!), and the speaker is rated at 50...

Haven't dealt with Eminence directly, but there website is very informative, especially the speaker 'tone guide' chart, which you can download as a PDF and tells you which speakers have particular characteristics, what they're a good substitute for, and whether you can use 'em in a closed/open/both cabinet...
Got my speaker on ebay, from 'protech.md', who were super-helpful...

I'm a southpaw who's been playing for around 25 years, and own a Rickenbacker 370-12, Danelectro U2, Eastwood HiFlyer, and Jap 52 Tele, all left-handed... Other amps are two Vox Pathfinders (a standard 15R and an EXR with the 10" speaker), and a wicked Zenta practice amp from the 1970s (excellent tremolo)...
If you're looking for superb tone for a too trebly amp which you're using single coil guitars through, the Lil Buddy comes across like an American-sounding version of the Celestion Blue ??? and I did own a tan '62 Vox AC15 for 20 years, so I know what I'm talking about!
You bet yr ass I'd buy another one... wonder what a Lil Buddy would sound like in the Pathfinder!?!?!? Hmmmmm....

10" ribbed hempcone 8 ohm speaker w/ a 30 oz ceramic magnet rated at 30W. I run it through a modified Valve Junior head mounted in a single Marshall Micro-Cab, sometimes matching it with a 10" AlNiCo.

Valve Juniors are my favorite amp. Even though mine is pretty heavily modded; components, Mercury Magnetics choke and Hammond OT, I've maintained the stock configuration. For versatility, all you get is a single channel volume knob and an on/off switch. How much more versatility could a blues man possibly need? I recently added the OT and found that the gain was much more defined, near fizzy at volume almost brittle. Heard that mixing an AlNiCo with a Hempcone would smooth this out. Eminence defines the Lil' Buddy as "smooth" that is an understatement. I play mostly Gibsons w/ P90s and HBs, also have a Super Strat, a Hardtail, and a Tele. Blues and Jazz is all this speaker is good for, but it is an exceptional Blues / Jazz speaker.

I just put four of these in my super reverb to warm it up and it did that.I wasn't happy with the originals. Then I tried jensen alnicos. They were too bright like the originals .Then I tried the eminence ram rods .Also too bright. (The only eminence that dissapointed, but are billed as having aggressive highs though, my fault I guess).I knew that with the right speakers this could be a killer amp though. The lil buddys are warm ,clean and big sounding and are also great with the bright switch on.Highs are not harsh and the bottom doesn't get flabby either. This amp is awesome now.Try them for subdued highs and fullness with big bottom. You will not be dissapointed.

Eminence is making great speakers.I have these speakers in various amps.Cannabis Rex,Big Ben,Red Fang and now Lil Buddys. They all deliver. All you have to do is read the guitar tone chart to see what each speaker will sound like. Then you can make the right choice for your application. Got these on ebay from musicians exchange .I would like a 15' speaker with hempcone too, but no one makes them yet.Hemp cone speakers have a warm dark tone that I think goes well with fenders.

Check the graph on this speaker at the US Speaker web page , it looks completely steady with no dips or bumps along the sound spectrum and it's fine tone reflect this. I have it mounted in a Rick Johnson pine finger joined tweed replica cabinet the dimensions of a Fender Pro Junior and it just simply sings like a bird . extremely efficient and warm sounding

This is a newly released speaker (2006) from eminence: hemp cone technology that they received the license for from Tone Tubby. It's an 8 Ohm, 99.1 db sensitivity 10" speaker with a 1 3/4" voice coil and ceramic magnet. I think it's rated at either 40 or 50 watts RMS. I bought this after much research to tame the high end of a really bright amp and still have a full low end and overall warmth. This did it.

I put this in a 1964-65 all tube Epiphone EA33RVT Galaxie amp (identical to the Gibson GA17RVT Scout of the same era); a 1x10 open back combo whose cab measures 19Hx22Wx10D. Like I said this amp was quite bright and not a very loud amp: around 12 watts is my guess. Compared to the other speakers this amp had, I noticed an immediate increase in volume and girth--it's warm and full and , at least with this amp, can get quite punchy yet remain smooth. It still has plenty of sparkle despite the fact that Eminence describes the high end as "subdued". It reminds me somewhat of the 12" Celestion G12H30 70th anniversary model which was broken in and relabeled as a "Hellatone" by Avatar and which I have in my Crate Palomino (15 Watt, class A all tube 1x12 combo--pretty good little amp too, but its tone doesn't hold a candle to the old Epi).
I went back and forth btw period-correct alnico vs. ceramic, but I wanted a more efficient speaker than most Alnicos are so I could maximize the volume to gig levels (or at least monitor levels with stage micing). I also needed to be choosy since 1) my amp has NO tone control (Just vol, reverb and trem speed) and 2) I didn't want to dink around trying a bunch of speakers since you can't return them. It really sounds full for a 10" speaker, although I know the combo cab that it's in helps with that too. In fact it does sound alot like a 12". I've used this amp at the past couple of rehearsals with a drums, keyboard, bass and another guitar and it kept up and held its own. I'm going to try it at a club gig in a couple of weeks and see how it does (I'll bring a mic just in case). I didn't want to pay an arm and a leg for a really good Weber either(the Lil' Buddy cost about 60.00 delivered to my door from All Parts).
All in all, this little sucker has really delivered--it takes effects well and as it breaks in, it gets warmer, smoother and more musical the more I play it.

Hven't really been using it for too long, but since it's rated at 40-50 watts RMS--double that for peaks--I don't imagine I'll be popping it with my 12-15 watt amp.

Been playing a long time--mostly in my church's praise and worship band these days, although I do play a pick-up gig now and then. My strat (w/"Fat 50s" pickups) sounds really good with this speaker--the neck pickup sounds a lot like the guitarist from Los Lonely Boys--Punchy and throaty--which means it sounds a lot like SRV's neck pickup tones, even though I only use 10s and not 13s for strings. I usually use my Les Paul with this amp though because it's louder and I think it was voiced more with Gibsons in mind. I use Duncan Antiquities in this and the amp is louder with more grind yet it never gets muddy.
I would say that the Lil' Buddy delivers exactly what I was looking for--a good match for this very articulate amp. Good job Eminence!!! (Although thanks should go to Tone Tubby too for the technological breakthrough).
