The NCM Black Dog is a 12" 30w 8ohm speaker custom manufactured for North Coast Music (NCM) by Eminence to provide something of a tonal "clone" of the Celestion Alnico Blue. North Coast uses this in their custom Vox -copy cabinets, but you can buy it individually as a replacement speaker. You get a typical looking black stamped basket with a black magnet, a ribbed paper cone (looks like paper, feels like paper...), and no label. The North Coast website does not indicate whether the speaker has an alnico or a ceramic magnet. Given the size & weight of the speaker, along with the 30w rating, one should probably assuming that the magnet is ceramic.

Surprisingly (at least to me) the NCM Black Dog delivers. The output from my AC30 with these speakers is solid but tight bottom, strong mids, with chimey upper mids and highs -- British Invasion tone to the bone. Gear!!
Reliability

It's a USA -made Eminence speaker. It should survive just about anything other than being severely overloaded and/or a nuclear attack.

North Coast Music specifies no returns or refunds on the Black Dog speaker. You're stuck with it, like it or not.

This speaker is a very pleasant surprise. It delivers tone comparable to Eminence's other "Alnico Blue" copy, the Alnico Red Fang (hmmnn...), but at half the cost. I'm running these in my AC30 (which I bought used & loaded with Vintage 30s) and the tone is as expected from this amp. Paired with a Greenback you get a really nice, balanced overall presentation. Running Black Dogs alone (hey hey, Mamma!) you get all the honking Fab mid -punch you might want with some really gear chiming highs. I plan to put one of these into my Gibson GA19RVT as well. If you need a new speaker and you've only got $55 to spend (including shipping) you might want check out Northcoastmusic.com. Enjoy!
