38 oz. ALNiCO magnet 12" speaker. It came with a Headstrong cabinet I bought from Mass Music. Pleasant surprise.

Sound Quality : 10
I have used ALNiCo magnet speakers for 50 years, in all of my amps, both combos and heads/cabs. I play blues/jazz through semi hollow guitars and blackface amps, and have favored the Weber Vintage 12A150A ALNiCO speaker for many years. I was really surprised that Red Fang sounds equally as good as the Weber. The compression, lows, mids and highs are all great. ALNiCO magnets work really well with darker sounding semi hollow guitars, PAF pups, great for more melodic music, i.e. old R&B, Chicago blues, etc. Ceramic speakers are much brighter, have less compression, different than ALNiCO. ALNiCO speakers cost $100 more minimum per speaker due to cost of cobalt in the magnets.

It's got an alnico magnet and has a power rating of 30W. Nowadays you may receive a 50W version. Mine is 16 Ohms.

Sound Quality : 10
I'm using this speaker replacing a Wharfedale GSH1230 speaker in a Vox AC15 CC. My complaints about that speaker were that it sounded shrill and thin and that it missed bass, especially when overdriven or distorted. It didn't keep the sound tight and it suffered from adding notes (which is referred to as cone cry?).

Since I replaced it with the Eminence speaker my Vox sounds warmer in general and it has more bass - not a tight bass though, so it won't work for metal, but that's not my style anyway. It has more top end, but not in a bad, icepick, shrill way. The top end is smooth and warm as it should be. Of course it also has this typical midrange, well known for British style speakers. It sounds very natural and it seems to keep more control than the Wharfedale. And this speaker still has to break in! So the sound only gets better!

The alnico magnet makes two things happen: first of all you have a natural compression. It is not bad, because it's a very useful compression that adds to the sound quality. The second thing is that the speaker breaks up quite quickly, which makes it work well in overdrive, but also clean it makes wonders with this small edge of breakup. This is not a sterile speaker that keeps things perfectly clean.

And a third remark on this speaker is that is very loud! I measured the speakers' loudness at a distance of half a metre (+/- 1.5 feet)with both the master and top boost volume entirely opened. The Wharfedale had about 96 dB, while this Red Fang produces 113 dB at the same distance! This means that my small 18 Watts amp produces lots of dB's now!

Overall the sound is great! It makes my Vox AC15 CC sound more like a... Vox, if that makes any sense. It sounds more like it should and I really like this amp. It works well with the styles of music I play (Blues, some Hendrix up to some hard rock). This is the sound I wished for and a simple speaker replacement did miracles!

Reliability : 8
It seems to be made very well! Although there's one concern for all speakers with an Alnico magnet: you mustn't bump or drop the speaker as the alnico magnet will lose it's strength. This is a natural property of alnico magnets. You won't have that disadvantage with ceramics, but on the other hand alnico's sound so much sweeter!

I've heard some pretty good things about Eminence, but I can't tell yet.

Overall Rating : 10
Considering the fact that it costs only half the price of a Celestion Alnico Blue and that it sounds as good as an Alnico Blue (of course there are differences in sound between these two, and I seem to like the Red Fang better) it is great value for money! If this speaker got broken or lost (???) I would buy it again immediately!

I recommend this speaker to everyone that owns a Vox and everyone that is looking for that Vintage British sound. It is a great upgrade for people with low wattage amps, since it will make your amp noticably louder and it will make it sound sweater.

30 watt, alnico magnet guitar amp speaker.

Sound Quality : 10
This speaker turned my amp (Peavey Classic 50 tweed) into the best sounding amplifier it could possible be. And straight out of the box it sounded like magic. The frequency response is almost identical to the celestion blue that it was modeled on. And it sounds very close. It has a very colourful bass tone with no distortion in that range at higher volumes. The highs are the way they should be, shimmering but never harsh. It sounds like you are running a valve studio compressor, its so easy to listen to. I was beginning to think I would never find the sound I hear in my head, and now I have it. It retains the same clarity using a lot of fx as well.

Reliability : 10
Running it with my 50watt valve amp driving it hard most of the time. Its only rated at 30watts but still no probs.

Been playing over 20 years, main guitar les paul/busrtbucker pros amp peavey classic 50. Would love to hear a quad loaded with these. I can't praise them enough. If you want that tone you hear in your head. But if you are not sure if it really will make much difference to your sound for the money. Don't hesitate a moment longer. You won't be dissappointed.

Features : 10
It is a 30 watt speaker made my Eminence. It is manufactured in the USA. It is painted red. It also has red protection cap over the alnico magnet, glued on so that it won't rattle at all like some of the caps Celestion has been slapping on their new reissue speakers (blue, g12h greenback). Other than that, it looks like a normal guitar speaker.

Sound Quality : 10
The sound/tone is absolutely awesome, but be prepared to work for it. When you first get this speaker it sounds awful/ugly. A lot of this is due to the extremeness of the paper cone being so stiff, and it really does need to get broke in before you can unleash the tone. For those who don't know this, almost every guitar speaker you buy brand new will sound like crap before you break them in. It's just that simple. Exercise the living hell out of them; they can take the abuse. It took me about 25 to 30 hrs before it started to smooth out, and start kicking ass. This breaking in time period is where most people give up on the speaker they have, and then post horrible reviews over what ever speaker they selected. Acquire some patience, extensively exercise the speaker by playing it at loud to medium volume levels, and you will be rewarded with the tone it is meant to unleash.

With that being said, once you break it you will love the tone it produces. It is suppose to be Eminence's version of a Celestion Blue. Truthfully I think they both sound great with slight sound differences being in each speaker, expect the RED FANG cost about half of its competitor, and the Celestion Blues protective magnet cap is secured on poorly and (unless you are lucky) will noticeably rattle when you play. The Red Fang is solidly constructed (no rattling), and I think it is a superior speaker to Celstions Reissue Blue.

Reliability : 9
For the abuse that I've thrown at these speakers they still play great, and get the job done for me at the end of the night when the last drunk is being escorted out of the bar. I've never spilt anything on them, but they have been in rooms filled with cigarette smoke (barrooms) and still sound phenomenal.

Customer Support : No Opinion
I have never had to deal with them. The speaker has been that reliable for me.

Overall Rating : 10
It is a fantastic speaker, just break it in and you will not be disappointed.

I run 2 of these speakers in a Marshall JCM2000 TSL 602 combo amplifier.

I got www.musiciansfriend.com to do a price match for me that one of it's internet competitors was running for $83.00. I ended up getting 2 of these for under the normal price of just one of these speakers.

Red Fang Speakers (a pair) abt 100 Euros each.
For my old VOX AC30 69er. I took the silverbulls out to keep them save.
For gigging a replaced them with a pair of RedFangs.

Sound Quality : 9
the RF are very close to the silvers a had. But more louder and directer. They have everything of the silvers but not the sweetness of 'em. This may take a while as they are not totally broken-in.

well I wd not give a 10 but a 9. This is really a good replacement for the original ones. I also had a mix of Vintage 30 and REDFANG in my vox. This sounded also very nice, but I wanted a pair of RFs.
The Vintage 30 alone is missing clearness and sparkle. But has more low-mids and power bottom end. But tone is not as rich and colorful as the RF and the Silvers. A mix of 1 Silver and 1 RF was not such big thing because of the difference in loudness.
Yes I wd buy that RFs again.

This is a 12 inch 16ohm guitar speaker. Red finish. What other features does a speaker have?

Sound Quality : 10
Put this speaker into a Peavey Valve King 1x12 combo amp. Amp puts out 50 watts rms in class ab mode. It puts out approximatley 20 watts rms in straight class a mode. This is set by the texture control on the back of the amp. This is important because the speaker is rated for 30 watts rms.(don't want to blow the voice coil).
The only other modifications to the Valve King are the preamp and power amp tubes. I use Tungsol 12ax7 for the preamps and Ruby 6L6GCMSTR for the power amp.

First of all let me say this speaker is very loud in this setup. Eminence rates the speaker at 103db 1 watt 1 meter. Although I have heard others question this I believe it. The speaker is that loud.

Even though it is not completely broken in this speaker sounds very good. Nice breakup. Still retains clarity when over driven. Played it with a 4 piece band in an empty 300+ seat auditorium. Set volume on 4 on the clean channel with the bass at 8 and mid and trebel at 4 this thing filled the room with vintage sound. Lots of top end sparkle without any of the painful spikes.

Reliability : 10
30 watt rms speaker in a 50 watt amp. Be very careful not to fry the voice coil. For vintage rock, jazz or country this works great. Works great for classic rock but if you use a big head you might want 4 of these in the cab. Well built. I doubt if I will be able to break it.

Have had very good luck with Eminence.

Customer Support : 10
Eminence is great. Every time I have called with a question they have either been available right away or they have called me back very quickly. I am impressed. Eminence is the only manufacturer I know of who does this. Along with the great speakers it makes for a very satisfied loyal customer.

Warranty is 7 year parts and labor. I don't believe this covers abuse of the product. Respect the ratings.

Overall Rating : 10
I have been playing for over 30 years. I have several different amps for different uses. I also have a number of different guitars. I lean toward the Gibson/Epiphone camp.

If this rig were lost or stolen I would definatley replace it. It sound that good.

I also have a Cannibus Rex and a Red Ryder in a different amp. I like them also.

Compared to the original Valve King speaker Red Fang takes the Valve King 1x12 from a Very Good Tube Amp to a great Tube Amp.

Compared to the Texas Heat I tried prior to the Red Fang I am finding a lot more clarity and a more vintage sound.

I bought an Allen Accomplice about a year ago, and have been trying to find a good speaker for it. So far, I've tried a V30, Cannabis Rex, Texas Heat, Legend GB12, Private Jack, CTS Alnico, and a Rola Alnico (both with small magnets). I liked all of them except the PJ (harsh)and the two older Alnico's(way too thin). I was a little hesitant about getting this speaker because of the 30 watts and the fact that a lot of people said that it broke up "too early" or "too much". Well, not only is it rated for 60 watts peak, it sounds like a dream with my amp turned up high (still clean). Balanced, clear, precise, articulate, and it's not even broken in yet! I have never played a C Blue, but this speaker kills everything listed above. Great efficiency (103db LOUD), which is awesome for low wattage amps.

There are a few ceramics listed above that break up before this speaker. If you're thinking about getting it, don't let that throw you off. This is a great speaker!

Best bang for the buck out there. I wanted to try a Weber Blue Dog too , but it was $50 more expensive. I wanted to be sure that I liked this type of speaker before spending $175 on one. I don't think I'll be removing this one from my combo any time soon.

Bell cover is not removable and sticks out a bit. Barely fits in my Tweed deluxe clone. Measure your amp before you buy one.

GREAT speaker. Vintage alnico compression with a twist. This speaker is incredibly loud (103db efficiency). It also has a nice voice. Holds togther a LITTLE longer than some of the other lower power offerings. TINY bit of Brit flavor but not so heavy on upper mids like some others. Just a very smooth and balanced spkr to my ear. I replaced a Weber Sig 12S alnico in my Tweed Deluxe clone and couldn't be happier. The 20 watt (?) Sig was busting up too soon and was very bright. The Fang is warmer and holds together just right in this amp. Been afraid to run it off my 40 watt Super so I can't comment authoritatively on clean sounds at stage volume, but sounds reeeeeal good and 3-D for as long as my lil tweedy stays clean. Only give it a 9 in lieu of 10 cause I'm way stingy... :-)

The Red fang differs structurally from the archetype Celestion Blue with just about everything except the cone, dust cap and possibly the spider. These sport as 35 oz alnico magnet to the Blue's 40,a different basket of thinner stock to the Blue's more robust basket( the Red fang basket seems robust enough tho),foam gasket(as apposed to the pressed paper of the Blue)The Red Fang.

None of this is a surprize concidering the price discrepancy.35 oz of alnico on a speaker that cost me $109 plus $8 shipping.I was however concerned with the fact that of the two new Red Fangs that I ordered together that there existed a non trivial difference to the speakers apparent resonance.Out of the boxs one speaker resonated (to the tap of the cone) right around the same pitch where my Greenback(same cone) resonates,The other Red fang was substancially lower in resonance. However they are not broken in yet nor do I know how consistent any given speaker model can be expected to respond out of the box and before broken in.I was a little disapointed at the somewhat poor red finish and the apparent glitches in the finish that looked unprofessionally retouched(looked like sloppy fingernail polish almost)on one of the speakers. It looks as if eminence painted over already black baskets to the red finish that fails to adequately mask the basket's original black finish.Again, the Blue tone at less than half the price...can't complain too much

Sound Quality : 9
I play strats/single coils through a Tophat Vibratrem. The Vibratrem is a Vox style 2-el84 based non master volume amp that requires pushing the power tubes to yeild it's Vox/roots rock type of crunch. The speaker receives a workout!
Ok,I have only tested one red fang so far(the unit similar in free air resonance to the greenback) in the same Tophat amp combo and having owned a Celstion Blue I can say it is in the park tonally. The Red fang I tried sounded a little more crisp out of the box than I recall over the Blue yet the lower treble(2-5 khz) response seemed a bit more subdued in the red fang to the Blue's prominent lower treble spike.Sometimes the blue sounded TOO spikey in the lower treble region. The red fang seems slightly more balanced and slightly more full range.I'm quite happy overall tonally with the RED fang but then again the Blue had a zone of usable looseness in the low end that I've not found in any other speaker,a tonally dynamic/touch sensitive looseness that was pleasing and added complexity to the tone.It really spit the notes out at you when pushed...sounded 3 dimensional.Th red fang possesed some of that low end complexity however in all fairness to the red fang some of that low end complexity my amp had with the Blue likely stemmed from having more sag in the power supply since my power filtering in the amp is slightly beefed up now(the amp stays a bit tighter now). The greenback in that amp did not offer the low end complexity of the Blue with the original filter caps so I guestimate that the red fang occupies the intermediate zone in complexity, again I estimate this.Take it for what it's worth.

Overall I am quite happy with the tone of this speaker and it does offer that tonally dynamic alnico compression quality. It is not overly spiky in the lower treble like I suspected it may be.It is jangly and thick sounding,it crunches up nicely when pushed too.I'll give it a 9 because I don't hand out tens so loosely.

This is a follow up review for the Red Fang Eminence speaker. You by now know the features.

Sound Quality : 9
I wound up getting two more Red Fangs since the last review, and have given each a thorough breaking in. That in itself is a testimony. I use each of the 3 in its own 1x12 cab, to avoid frequency cancelling harmonics. Let me conclude some bottom lines, all of course just my opinion:

These speakers are well rounded for quite a few applications. Clean, they have a nice hint-o-hair on the edges, especially in position 2 and 4 on my Ernie Ball Silhouette Special. This works well for my amps, since they all have that Voxy vibe to them. Through the drive channel, they are creamy and rich, great for leads when driven through either single or bucker pickups.

You've already read about compression of these speakers, and they do compress quite a lot. So, for high gain modern rock, they would be too slow and mushy, especially at high volumes. But for blues, country, modern country, funk, classic rock, they, imo, are incredibly nice sounding. Nothing does everything, but these speakers can fill a number of great applications, and do it in stellar style.

Reliability : 9
Looks solid.

Overall Rating : 9
How to give any speaker a 10 rating? No can do. Each does something unique. These are no exception. But I'll just say that I'm very pleased with what these speakers are capable of doing. I love playing through them.

Alnico 30 watt 8 ohm speaker.Loaded into a hot rodded matchless spitfire clone tweaked and improved by John Delle Site.Pine cabinet open back 1X12 combo format.Replaced the Eminence Legend V12 that came with it.Nice speaker for the price; however felt the amp could sound better.Single channel amp that is extremely touch sensitive.Set pre vol., tone, and post vol. to 90% and work the guitar volume pot for clean chime to full out for singing sustain.Great amp for country, blues, rock and jazz.Use it mostly in the studio.15 very loud watts. The Red Fang sounds sweet and chimey for all applications.

Sound Quality : 10
When I first installed the speaker it sounded harsh. I observed the sound smoothing out over a week or so of playing.I was concerned until it started to break in and then it bloomed. It's been years since I played celestion blues and I can't honestly compare the two objectively, but I really like this speaker for this particular application.Clean notes breath and sustain with very little cone cry or ghost notes on high E above 10th fret. The more the speaker was played the better the overdrive started to sound. At first it was buzzy but fortunately thats completely disappeared.Teles ,strats les pauls,345s you name it they all sound great through this rig.

This speaker is really a great deal and suits my needs perfectly.I wish I could have tried a Weber Blue Dog.I really like Ted Weber,he is incredibly helpful it just did'nt happen this time. I use his Mass attenuator and man did he come up with a brilliant solution to the whole power soak problem. The nass attenuator is also hundreds of dollars less than the other attenuators out there.I digress,as to the Jensen Alnico reissue, not impressed at all.If you are into country, rock, blues, chimey pop etc, check out this speaker. The V12 is good but the Red Fang takes it to a whole other level.Give it time to get broken in and prepare to hear all the nuances of your playing.

I received it this morning, dropped it into a large open back cab, played an hour. Took it out and soldered into a small pine Alessandro half-back cab (my favorite 1x12 cab), and played another 4 hours straight, using every style in my bag. Much better in the smaller pine cab, and it got better even after just 3 hours of break in; smoothed out. But I think all speakers need a couple weeks of playing to "relax".

My test axe was a Music Man Silhouette Special, stock p'ups.

Can't help being redundant here with what's already been said. It replaced a V30 in both the cabs I tried it in, and there's no comparison in tone, imo. The V30 is a perfect hi-fi gentleman, and at certain volumes, it really sings nicely. Comparatively, the Fang is an experienced salty dog. The most stunning surprise was that I could actually hear the nuances of my guitar and amp, and my fingers! Much more expressive than the V30 in tone and touch. Yes, it does compress, and that does add its own thing, but it seems a very useable compression, not excessive; at least not at bearable volumes in a house.

In the wide open back cab, the highs were causing ear fatigue due to the presence of an edgy top end (fondly called Brit jangle). This edge mellowed out in the smaller pine cab, and more so after 3-4 hours of play.

Bottom line for me, it's a keeper and will find a niche in the studio and jams.

I've been playing since 1962, paid dues and played full time for a long while. Now it's just for grins and some studio gigs.

This Fang seems like a great arrow for my quiver. It's alive, organic and expressive, and it lets your gear's own voice sing. That's a huge plus, imo. I'm pretty sure my V30 cabs will still get some use, but this will likely become my go-to speaker/cab.

Some combinations of speakers can work well together. I wasn't especially impressed with how the Fang plays together with the V30. The V30 has a way of dominating other speakers, not in volume so much, but in frequency coverage. I'll probably wind up getting another Fang to combo with this one in an extension cab. I think the tone of this speaker deserves its own voice and venue.

Too soon to tell for sure, but so far, I?m diggin this speaker a lot.

It's a speaker. Has a frame, cone, coil, cover etc. Lots of holes for different bolting setups, including retrofitting Celestion style.

12 inch, 16 ohms, 30 watt handling. You get two free picks and a nice emblem for your amp.

Sound Quality : 9
I replaced a Celestion Vintage 30 with this speaker (inside a Trace Elliot Velocette 12R - El84 based amp). Personally, I find the V30 to be harsh, too mid-range focussed, and not articulate or pleasant at higher volumes. I wanted something smoother, with better highs and earlier breakup. I didn't want to go to a Celestion Blue for moneys sake with this particular amp. I chose it however as it was recommended to me as a British voiced, Alnico Blue feeling speaker.

First impressions were that it sounded smoother, clearer with better highs. Very touch sensitive and a breathy, organic feel. Less sterile than the V30. It broke up earlier and compressed quite heavily under load. It was more harmonic at high volumes and compressed in a useable fashion. Overall a richer, clearer and warmer sound.

The compression element is an individual user thing. To me, I find it ideal for indie rock, rock n roll, blues/jazz mainstream stuff. The attack on a note at higher volumes is better controlled with this type of natural compression - an example of that sound of volume squashing would be any of SRV's live sounds. However, for styles requiring massive clean headroom or say, pronounced mids etc, this speaker will not please you. In saying that, it's not designed to (like I read somewhere here about it compressing too much - wrong choice of speaker buddy).

Compared with my Weber Blue Dog, it seems to have better definition in the higher registers with earlier break up and compression. Not as creamy in the mids, but that wasn't desired for this amp. Similar in the fact that both speakers are very touch sensitive and breathy.

Test equipment for this review was a 1973 Stratocaster and a Gretsch G5127, guitar lead and a pick :)

I have been playing for 20 years, many styles, many guiatrs, many amps. Without being an arrogant SOB I would say my ears are well qualified.

Well, I got mine from JIM Music, and I'm sure Jim would help with any issues.

Overall Rating : 9
I rate it highly because it achieves a number of things so far missed out by other manufacturers trying to emulate British voicing.
1. It breaks up early enough to give a true retro British tone
2. It has sparkly highs without dominent mids
3. Compression is useable and better managed than others
4. Price point - good value

Overall, a great replacement for a smaller valve combo where the above attributes are desired and the current speaker is simply not delivering. Great stuff eminence.

Celestion Blue rival from Eminence, 30/60 watts, 1/3 the price of Celestion Blue! Mine is 8 Ohms.

Sound Quality : 10
This is a GREAT speaker. I can't say that the Celestion Blue is any better. Just all around great tone. Very, very smooth with great compression. This speaker isn't supposed to be "brutal or tight" so don't expect that. But it does cleans very well and also does that Celestion Blue trademark tone with beautiful sweet highs and a nice round sound. Also, the 30/60 watt rating makes it more versitle than the Blue.

Been playing 35 years. Would replace it immediately. This speaker has a certain vibe to it and should really be compared to a Celestion Blue type speaker. It doesn't sound like a JBL, EV, Jensen, or for that matter even a Celestion greenback. It sounds like an old VOX/Celestion Blue but at a fraction of the price. If you are looking for that sound, save your money and try the Red Fang. Celestion needs to be worried about this one. You can fool some of the people some of the time but, you can't fool all of the people all of the time. At $475 list for the Blue, I feel like I didn't get fooled or raped.

Some guy on here compared the Red Fang to a Vintage 30 saying that they are similar. Not even close, bud. I A/B'd 2 cabs out of the same head. One was loaded with the red fangs and the other was loaded with the V30's. It was night and day. The red fangs are so much warmer, tighter, richer, more harmonic and smoother than the V30's. The V30's were harsh, brittle, metallic and cold in comparison to the Red Fangs. I think that Eminence has made a great speaker here.

brand new this is my third
Fantastic value in an alnico celestion type speaker

Sound Quality : 10
Installed in a 70's deluxe reverb amp
Replacing a Blackback H30 celestion

the Red Fang has a very musical tone less brash that the ceramic celestions with a sweeter articulate top end...

almost like a perfect blend of a real pre rola greenback and an alnico blue

very versatile speaker can be used for any type of music, like the alnico blue it is very responsive to the players touch and input.

In a well thought out rig any player could use it

have two others and have had no reliablilty issues

Unknown warrantee card with the product seems to indicate that the speaker can handle more power than they suggest (conservative ratings) I will not test this theory !!

12" 16 ohm used in closed back cabinet with a monster EVM 12F.

Sound Quality : 10
I installed this speaker in my external cabinet for more flexibility in recording. We are working on our first album and I need more chime and bang in the guitar. Frankly I was amazed at the tone this speaker produces. I bought it based on the reviews I read here and I am not dissapointed in the least.

I play a stock Mexican Tex Mex Strat straight into a Traynor 20 watt tube ampwith JJ EL 84s, Groove Tube 12Ax7-C and a NOS 12at7 phase splitter.

The speaker took a week or two break in and it really loosens up nice nad is very responsive to an already very touch sensitive setup. The tone I was looking for is here. Dirt on command, clean and bangy quick decay with nice warmth and lots of overtones. this speaker really shows you what your amp and guitar really sound like. SO if you have lots of crappy effects and no clue about turning knobs and switches on your guitar...you might get crap from this speaker. I have yet to find any faults. for the price it is really a good value. I've only played Celestion Blues in shops and liked them but could't really make a direct comparision to my existing set up. Is a Blue...no it is a Red Fang. Amp makers could do a lot by loading low wattage tube amps with these affordable great sounding speakers. Not for every player or monster metalheads or gobs of effects. But if you want simplicty and flexibility at your hands then I say consider this Red Fang if you are thinking Celestion BLue, Weber BLuedog or TOne Tubby....

hear the speaker in action on the cut Spritual Mouthwash a nice little lead break in the middle that shows the nice tone this speaker is capable of here:

http://sonicbids.com/SoulAmp

Click on Audio and listen, the speaker was not broke in yet when we recorded this tune...but still sound great. SM-57 angled into the cone about 1.5" from the cone 3/4 the way to the upper left edge. Didn't have to touch EQ or add any effects....(not even compression) sweet...

I will be loading the combos I have with this speaker. I like it that much.

It's a speaker.

Can't relate.

Overall I have no reservations in recommedning this speaker. Every tone junkie should have a cabinet loaded with a pair of these. At this price there really is not a reason you can't...

sturdy construction, extended magnet housing (covered). 8 ohms, 30 watts handling.

i think it sounds like a slightly flatter governor. vintage 30 flavor, less highs, silky sweet distortion when pushed. interesting. not as good as the blue tho. nice try eminence!

Reliability : 8
built better than the blue i think.

none.

does not have the apparent volume of the blue (used with a class a amp) even tho twice the wattage. just no punch. if you want extended gain (distortion) this offers an interesting range. just not crystalline or chimey enough. not impressed. ran this with an sg/duncan custom and an orange ad30.

12 INCH GUITAR SPEAKER USA MADE bRITSH CONE, ALNICO MAGNET; CLONE OF THE LEGENDARY VOX ALNICO BLUE (CELESTION T530)
CONE LOOKS RIGHT AND CONSTRUCTION IS EXCELLENT, ALTHOUGH THERE APPEARS TO BE MORE "DOPE" AROUND THE EDGE OF THE SURROUND THAN ON A REAL T530.

Sound Quality : 10
I WILL ADMIT MY EXPECATTIONS WERE MODEST AS I THINK THE EMINENCE JENSEN BASSMAN CLONES ARE TERRIBLE (IE THEY DON'T SOUND REMOTELY LIKE REAL ONES)

I HAVE BEEN USING VOX ALNICO CELESTIONS FOR MANY YEARS AND HAVE MANY EXAMPLES IN MY SELECTION OF GUITAR JUNK. BESIDES BEING THE PERFECT AC30 SPEAKER, THE ALNICO CELESTION MAKES A KILLER UNIT FOR LOW POWERED 12INCH EQUIPPED COMBO AMPS. DUE TO THEIR MONSTER EFFICIENCY 103DB AND LOW WATTAGE (30 WATTS RED FANG // 15-20 WATTS T530) THEY MAKE ANY DELUXE OR PRINCETON A RECORDING & GIGING MONSTER. MY FAVORITE AMP IS A 64 4 KNOB PRINCETON THAT HAD THE BAFFEL CUT FOR A 12 30+ YEARS AGO. ITS WORTH NOTING THAT I HAVE A GOOD SELECTION OF ALL MODELS OF CELESTION 12'S INCLUDING SEVERAL MARSHALL GREENBACK CABINETS.

OK SO HOW DOES IT SOUND ??? WELL I SLAPPED A RED FANG AND A REAL T530 INTO A 2*12 OPEN BACK CAB, AND BROUGHT EACH OUT TO A SEPARATE JACK
I PLUGGED IN MY ES335 AN EXPANDORA AND MY OLD PRINCETON
THE TONE OF THIS SPEAKER IS MONSTEROUS, PROBABLY THE WARMEST THICKEST CELESTION SOUND I HAVE EVER HEARD
THE RED FANG SOUNDS LIKE MY FAVORITE 69 4/12 MARSHALL 100 CABINET
(G12H30 GREENBACKS)

I A-B'ED THE DRIVER WITH THE REAL T530, THE REAL ONE HAD MORE TOP END AND IN COMPARISON WAS BRITTLE (REALLY)
BOTH SPEAKERS SOUND LIKE VOX SPEAKERS BUT THE REDFANG SOUNDS LIKE IT'S IN A CLOSED BACK CABINET

I EXPECTED THE RED FANG TO BE A PALE IMMITAION OF THE VOX, INSTEAD THE RED FANG WAS THICKER BEEFIER AND WAY MORE COMPLEX THAN THE VOX

IN FAIRNESS THE VOX WAS LOUDER (SLIGHTLY), BRIGHTER, AND HAD BETTER NOTE SEPARATION.
THE RED FANG WAS SMOKEY COMPLEX, SWIRLY AND HUGE SOUNDING
DRIVEN HARD THE RED FANG EASILY COPPED BRIAN MAY'S (QUEEN) SOLO TONE (KILLER QUEEN) AND IN FACT NAILED IT BETTER THAN THE T530

SO TO SUM UP IT DOSN'T SOUND EXACTLY LIKE ANY OF THE T530'S I OWN
BUT IT DOES SOUND LIKE MY VERY BEST GREENBACKS ...
I AM NOT EASILY IMPRESSED BUT THESE SUCKERS ARE ALMOST LIKE "HOLLYWOOD" CELESTIONS WHERE THE CLASSIC CELESTION TONE HAS BEEN WORKED OVER BY A TOP PLASTIC SURGEON
A LITTLE EXAGERATED BUT STILL HIGHLY ENTERTAINING

I TOOK THE 2-12 BOX TO VISIT SOME GUITAR BUDDIES AND UNANIMOUSLY THEY ALL FLIPPED OUT WHEN THEY REALIZED THE "GOOD" SPEAKER WAS THE RED FANG, BY COMPARISON A VINTAGE 30 STOCK IN THEIR TEST COMBO SOUNDED THIN AND RASPY ...

BEST BET FOR A 4-12 STYLE PUNCH WITH CLARITY IN A SMALL COMBO AMP
EVEN IN A OPEN BACK IT SOUNDED BIG BIG BIG

Reliability : 6
WE DIDN'T BLOW IT UP T530'S LAST FOR YEARS IN THE RIGHT AMP
THEY TAKE ALL KINDS OF HEAVY DRIVE JUST RESPECT THE 30 WATT POWER LIMIT

Customer Support : No Opinion

A TRULY GREAT GUITAR SPEAKER IN THE CELESTION CAMP
BETTER THAN THE CELESTION GREEN REISSUE & VINTAGE 30

I WILL BE BUYING MORE AND WILL DO A FULL 2 OR 412 WITH THEM
FOR USE WITH MY MARSHALLS

Speaker with Alnico Magnet 30Watts RMS 8Ohms of impedance

Sound Quality : 8
Simply sounds very good. I used it on a DIY class A tube amp that uses two 6l6g (cathode biased) and a preamp circuit that is very similar to a Vox AC15. It sounds very close to the Celestion Alnico Blue. I made an AB test, unfortunately for lacking of time, on two different speaker cabs. Anyway at low volume are very similar. When crancked up Celestion is better, the highs are more pleasent and the overall sound is clearer. I think that this differences do not justify the huge price difference.
The thing that really surprise me is the loudness of this speaker. I had a Jensen P12R and it sonuds very very much more loud. Sensitivity is rated at 103db !!
Very good upgrade for small amp aruond 15-18 watts

I just buoght it.

There is a warranty, it last for one year, i think.
I don't know if it could be usefull for a speaker.
Do you think that in case of breaking i will be able to demonstrate
that it wasn't my fault??

It's 15 years that i play, i own an original 69 stratocaster and a strat 57 reissue made with warmoth parts and voodoo pickups.
If i would loose this speaker i shurely will buy it again.
A very high value respect to the price.

Great speaker. Alnico magnet, nice compression, clear tone. Everything you love about the celestion blues but at less than half the price.

Sound Quality : 10
I'm using a pair in my Bad Cat Trem Cat 2x12, sort of a Vox-clone 4xEL84 but with trem and verb. Great speaker for that amp. Tight, clear low end with just enough highs. Very balanced to my ears. I also had one of them in a 5E3 Tweed Deluxe that I built prior to getting the Bad Cat. I ran my 68 Pro Reverb into both of the Red Fangs (while they sat in my Bad Cat) and wow, they took away that low-end farting that the crappy Utah and Fender speakers gave me. I've thought about putting a pair in my Pro Reverb, but I'm likely going to try some of their other speakers in there.

Seems reliable.

None needed so far, but Dave at Avatar Speakers is great to deal with.

Overall Rating : 10
Fantastic speaker value. They have a big bell on them that is not removeable. You might want to get some measurements if you think the fit is going to be tight. I just adjusted the chassis a bit on my 5E3 to help put a bit of room between the speaker and the power tubes.

30 watts alnico magnet. 16 ohm.

This speaker sounds amazing through my 212 closed back cab paired with a g12h. The solo's are smooth and tasty. The rhythms are chunky with just the right amount of breakup.Beautiful midrange.I have never been so happy with the sonic quality of a speaker.Even when I went from v30 to g12h.The other reviewer mighnt be right about an open back situation not haveing enough umph!,but I am into mixing speakers and probobly will never go back to a 112 design.I just have to have that bass!

Bet your glad to find a review on this speaker so soon after it's release, eh? *S* Features.......well, a cone and metal frame. what else can you say about a speaker?! Ok, to be serious, alnico magnet, 30 watts, 60 watts peak. thats about it.

Sound Quality : 5
I'll make this short and to the point. It's supposed to be a clone of the Celestion blue. i can't say, never having used one. But it absolutly sounds like a Celestion. My take is that it has a certain character that you'll either like or not. Sounds very british in that it has a sort of scooped sound with very little strat quack. extremely articulate with tight lows and very sweet highs. The tone however is not to my liking due to it's pervasive high end that is not balanced out with enough low mids. It just sounds too high endy to me. It also compresses a lot as you turn up due to the alnico magnet. I much prefer tight strong speakers that stay that way at stage volume. The compression it has is just too much to be a very versitile speaker IMO. And the lack of quack for me immediatly takes it out of contention for me. It's going back.

If you like SRV tone, this is not for you at all. If you like Queen, old Bowie, etc, this may be the ticket. But i would caution against it's use in open back combos. At least 1-12 combos. 2-12, maybe. Closed back cabs are the only way i would consider using them. You may feel different, but it's a review after all.......i can only give my point of view. And that is that to me it's a speaker thats suited for closed back cabs for british hard rock tone. For clean i'd definatly stay away. Again, YMMV.
Well, so much for keeping it short ! *S*

I think i said it all above. Mine is going back, but it's really not a bad speaker in the least, just not my thing. In fact i know for a fact some will love it big time, and it's totally about what you want. The question is whether you will like it, and i hope my description is accurate enough and complete enough to help you make the right decision. Good luck.
