Features : 10
120W 8 ohm 12" speaker with cool paint job and graphics on back.

Sound Quality : 10
I put this in a Peavey Encore 65 (65W all tube combo) as a replacement for a Celestion G12M-70. It completely changed the sound of my amp in a positive way. I didn't think Celestion made a bad speaker, but the G12M-70 is awful. Steer clear of it. But this red ryder is a perfect match for my amp.

Reliability : No Opinion
It isn't even broke in yet so I don't know, but it comes with a 7 year warranty.

Never had to deal with eminence.

Overall Rating : 10
Great speaker for almost any price under $100.

This is a 12 inch 16 ohm speaker.

Sound Quality : 10
This speaker replaced one of the valve king speakers in a Peavey Valve King 2 12 combo amp. The other valve king speaker was replaced by a Cannibus Rex 12 inch 16 ohm speaker.

What a difference. The clarity has been improved immensley. The high mids are more concrete without the painful edge from the vale kings. The tube distortion is distinct without losing the individual notes.

Reliability : 10
Looks very well built. Dont think I will have any problems

Called Eminence with a question before I bought these speakers. The lady who answered my call switched me over to an engineer. Where else can you talk with the guy who designed the speaker?

Overall Rating : 10
These two speakers have changed the character of my amp very much to the better. For the price I do not think it gets any better.

Its a speaker, available in 8 or 16 Ohm rating, I wouldnt expect a speaker to have any other features.

Sound Quality : 10
I created a 2x12 cabinet made to the specifications of a closed back Mesa Boogie with a bit of extra height like a Bogner cabinet. It was all Birch plywood. The speakers are Front Mounted.

I waited a long time before getting the 2 Red Ryders I purchased installed. Once I did, I plugged it in at practice with my metalcore/death/grindcore band to my Peavey 6505+ Head and my customized Fender Deluxe Double Fat Strat(with has a Gibson 500T Ceramic Pickup in the Bridge). I noticed right away that it had a huge punchy, but tight tone. The clarity of this speaker is the best I have heard of any speaker. The note clarity of chords and single notes and sweeps are superior to a Celestion Vintage 30 or G1275T. I have not played a Celestion Classic Lead 80, but it is probably comparable to or better than that speaker as well from what I hear.

With high gain this amp is capable of enormous punchy brutal low end that hits you in the chest. That is only if you use the Bass and Resonance knobs judiciously. This speaker is not bassy with a Flat EQ setting, its just balance with a nice presence that isn't harsh on the ears, its quite pleasing. Considering I use a Peavey 6505+ already with the 5150 cab, it takes a really good speaker to make me notice a significant difference. The note clarity as I said is awesome. You can feel the higher notes.

Another thing that really suprised me with this amp is when you do solos with a neck humbucker, with or without the tone rolled down. You get a boost in volume it seems and the notes can be felt more.

Clean, these speakers sound quite good to me as well. They can handle effects great and it can sound snappy and crunchy or smooth and bassy depending on your playing style and equalization tastes.

Low gain sounds are great with these speakers due to the the clarity and the high range of sounds you can get with equalization. It is very responsive to EQ changes, if your amplifier is good you will find a tone you like alot.

The only thing I wouldnt reccomend this speaker is if you want low volume speaker breakup, these are powerful speakers and it takes very loud volumes to make them breakup

Reliability : 9
Eminence uses some new methods in speakers that are proven to be more reliable and give greater power ratings than some other brands. Eminence voice coils are made with superior materials to Celestion and the clarity reflects it.

We will see how well it stands up to gigging every weekend at loud volumes, but I am sure it will do fine, it takes alot of volume to get these speakers to breakup

I wouldn't know, but it is an All American Company and these speakers are made here in the USA, so the customer service would be good I would hope

Overall Rating : 10
I think these speakers are so good that I plan to use them exclusively, especially if my band goes on tour. I plan to swap out my Peavey 5150 cabs stock speakers and put these in, and buy a 2x12 cab with these in it.

I am not a Celestion basher or anything by the way, I think Celestion makes some excellent speakers, but Eminence is reinventing the industry of guitar tone and these speakers are great example of how they are doing it for high gain metal rockers.

Try these out, you won't regret it.

This is a 2005 eminence 12 inch, 16 ohm red ryder speaker. ISee eminence for specs. Eminence modeled this speaker off the celestion classic lead 80.

Sound Quality : 3
It was installed in a 1 x 12 front loaded closed back speaker, and a 1 x 12 ear candy sovereign. I played humbuckers through it, using Mesa F50, Nomad, and Soldano astroverb. I play blues, rock, hard rock, metal, shred.

The clean tones are great. No problems here.

The istorted tones, on the other hand, are bad to ok. It is so much more grittier than a classic lead 80 (CL80). Much of the grit is coming from the cone. It has about the same grit as the celestion g12h30, and is very "buzzy." When playing distorted chords, the tones become indistinct, and it starts to sound like a swarm of bees. This is not what a CL80 sounds like.

It has too much highs!!! This was prominent when played with the soldano astroverb. It was piercing. After ample break in time, it was still too prominent, adding fire tot he "swarm of bees," sound. The mid range is prominent, and helps the tone cut, but the highs were over powering. The low end is severely lacking. If I were to described it EQ characteristic, it would be: bass 3 Mid 7 Highs 9. This is horrible eq'ing, unless you like highs & no bass.

The positives: hmmm, well, it isn't as stiff as the classic lead 80. Seems to be smoother, and more forgiving. Otherwise, not a good speaker.

Reliability : 8
no ghost notes, no farting out, or cone cry

Impossible to contact these guys

Overall Rating : 5
If you play clean stuff, have a bass heavy amp, don't use as much distortion, or love that "swarm of bees," distortion characteristics, then this is probably your speaker. I think it is a poor effort from eminence. Avoid this is your guitar/amp setup has too much highs. This speaker will only make it worse.
