I bought these speakers to go with two eminence man'o wars in a 4x12 because I wanted to blend the british and american sound together and also because I wanted as little break-up in my speakers as possible.

IMO, the RWB's are have this name for a reason. They only really sound ok when using clean or lightly overdriven tones. If you have a nice guitar and amp you'll like the clean tones because of its transparancy. However, I don't think they handle distortion very well at all. This is possibly because of the limp mid-range voicing. You definately need a stronger mid-range to get good crunch. I also felt that the low end was too rolled off. I think this is what their advertisments are referring to when they talk about a "tight" response, but it seemed to me like the lows weren't there to respond.
Another issue I had with the distorted tones...and this goes for the Man o wars as well is that they have a latent buzz behind the tone that was driving me crazy. It didn't sound like it was present in the tone but rather in the actual components of the speaker itself. I originally thought this was because the speakers weren't broken in yet but after playing on them at least 8 hours a week for almost a year this still hasn't changed.

P.S. I replaced the RWB's with two Legend V12's and I only hear the buzz coming from the man o wars now. I think the red coat/patriot series are just cheaply made items.

Pretty hard to mess up a 120 watt speaker.

Customer Support : No Opinion
I emailed a question to their support department a long time ago and it took them a week to respond. Not overly helpful but at least they eventually get back to you. It's more than I can say for some companies.

Overall Rating : No Opinion
I don't think I'd be as disappointed if I had these speakers in a low power, class A combo or if I only played clean. But since I play metal this speaker isn't for me. I personally think the Lengend series is a better all around speaker and I'm going to get two more to replace the man o war's as well.

I built a 2X12 cabnit to replaced my stock 026488's in "The Twin" amp. I have been using the amp for 20 years in all kinds of bands playing all kinds of music.

I tried these speakers in both the new and old cabinets.

Sound Quality : 1
The 026488's were full and clear with rich tone for any style I played.

The Red White and Blues responded poorly to midrange and gave everything a mid-scooped lifeless feel.

It's funny, the blues are all about midrange tones.

If I can return them I'll rate Customer Support 10/10

It???s easy to cut the mids on a preamp so why would they ever make these speakers?

On their behalf I am comparing these to extremely good speakers.

12" replacement speaker. Sturdy basket, large magnet. comes with gasket. Bought it to replace the Blue Marvel speaker in a Peavey Studio Pro 112 (65w, red stripe, with T-dynamics knob). I play mainly blues, blues-rock and classic rock, and the speaker that comes in the Peavey, while serviceable, is not very dynamic.

Sound Quality : 10
Sound quality? OUTSTANDING! Adds lots of dynamic overtones, big but not flabby bottom, warmth and definition. Volume output is comparable to stock speaker, but it pounds your chest in a way the original speaker never thought of. Sounds excellent through the spectrum fom clean blues to fully overdriven metal. Both my strat and LP work equally well.

Reliability : 10
Just installed so no issues yet. It is rated for twice the wattage of my amp so I don't foresee any problems. One thing to remember though...the initial tone the first time you use it is a little harsh, but it smooths out after a few minutes of high-volume playng.

Customer Support : 10
Again, Outstanding. I emailed my thoughts and needs to their website and was contacted within a day by someone in their lab, who pointed me in the right direction for muy needs. Their website also features a tone chart, sound clips and an FAQ section that tells how to break in a new speaker. Couldn't be a more satisfying experience.

Overall Rating : 10
This speaker took a good-sounding amp and made into a great-sounding amp. I will never claim that a SS amp sounds as good as a tube amp, but this is now one of the better SS amps I've ever heard. If you are unhappy with your amp's sound, and cannot afford a new one, do some research, read some reviews, and explore the Eminence website. Their choices are many, and you won't be disappointed.

I bought two of these in conjunction with two Man O Wars (see my review on these), and criss-crossed the two types to get a nice evened out sound, which they do very well. The Man O Wars add a lot of warm low end to the mix, while the RWAB's smooth out the mid-range frequencies and add quite a bit of attack. I think they are quite amazing together. My tone has never sounded more full.

Seem as heavy duty as the Man O Wars

Very helpful. Answered my questions regarding mixing the two speakers promptly and insightfully.

Features well stated previously. I epecially like the thick gasket, the plastic covering for the magnet and its weight.

Sound Quality : 10
A rep from Eminence told me that it is based on the vintage Jensen C12N but without the harsh highs. It is clear and responsive with vintage Jensen sparkle and chime, expressive mids and a solid and focused bottom end. As it can handle 120w, the RW&B does not break up early yet it is very efficient.

This speaker works equally well in either open or closed-back cabs. I replaced an EVM 12L Classic in my Fuchs 1X12 closed-back cab with the RW&B as it sounded much more open, clear and organic. I have two of them in a JD Newell cab (with both closed and open backs) for my Dual Showman and they sound great whether playing clean or overdriven.

Reliability : 10
I've had the two RW&B's in my 2X12 cab for around a year now and they have never given me any problem. I often bring both a Dual Showman head and a Fuchs ODS modded 50w Traynor head to gig, but have never felt the need to bring another speaker cab.

Customer Support : 10
I've received advice from Eminence previously and found the company to be very responsive to requests for info. I also had a problem with a different model speaker previously and Eminence took care of it immediately. Customer service seems to be a high priority for this company.

Overall Rating : 10
I've been playing off and on for over 30 years and own Fender and Fuchs amps. I play a MIJ Strat, MIJ Tele with Lindy Fralins, MIJ 52 RI Tele, Les Paul Deluxe, PRS Soapbar II with Lindy Fralins, Burny Les Paul clone with Fralin PAF's, Agile AL3000 and Samick 335 copy with Gibson Classic 57's, Les Paul R4 and a Classic Player 60's Strat.

I look for a fat and sparkling clean tone to use as a foundation for my Analogman modded Maxon OD-9 and Zendrive2. I have no use for a speaker that has a farting bass or ice pick highs. The Red, White and Blues is my 12" speaker of choice. It opens up the tone in warm voiced amps and smooths out the tone in bright amps. It's superior power handling capacity and efficiency make this an ideal speaker for so many applications. I have yet to find another speaker that is as well balanced and harmonically rich at any price.

Well, it's a 12" ceramic speaker 8Ohms, rated max 120 Watts, 101 db sensitivity.
8 mounting-holes, so it should fit into any cab.
All looks like good standard features, and craftsmanship on mine is beyond questioning.

So good 8 points for nothing's perfect.

Sound Quality : 6
Used in open back 2x12 with Fuchs ODS 50 head, guitar is a Vintage Strat with alder/rosewood. Stykes primarily Classic Rock, Blues & Jazz/Fusion.

I bought the speakers because Fuchs uses them in their cabs, and the RWB immediately changed the sound of my rig:
They sound very 'full', albeit somewhat 'dark'. The highs & presence are there, but not very pronounced. Mids and Bass have very even response, reminding indeed a bit of the good ole' EV12L.
Like the EV, this speaker colours your sound not, it lets the amp do the work in shaping your tone's character.
They are plenty loud at 101db, and I didn't experience any cone-cry or 'farting-out'. Very stable sound reproduction, whether played loud or low.

However, during my months with the RWB, I realised that I miss some 'jangle'/'sparkle' in the top end, and just a bit of British 'grit' when overdriven.

I had the feeling that my Fuchs was capable of producing much more details soundwise, than what the RWB are able to deliver. To my ears the RWB has a tendency to sound a bit sterile in the long run. Also, they caused ear-fatigue when played for an entire evening, by blowing out too many Mids & Bass, or vice-versa lacking top-end.
No matter how I eq'ed them, they would always produce the same character and very similar tones, not show the desired versatility.

After all, I have to say they sound pretty much like the sound-samples on the EMI-HP - dark and somewhat lifeless. Interestingly, a lot of folks say theirs sound very different from the sound-clips, and that the clips are 'too dark'. My pair of RWB was pretty close to the sound-clips...Maybe these speakers sound different from batch to batch (just a thought)?

So 6 points here. I think they're nice for jazzy sounds, but for Classic clean- or lead-tones, they didn't cut it for me. Plus, they didn't do my amp's versatility much justice.

Reliability : 8
I've run them for a good half-year now. No problems technically, but I have to mention that I didn't ever get to max them out (my amp is only 50W).

Customer Support : No Opinion
Never had to deal with them, but I think their website is great. In contrary to the Celestion HP, you actually get sound-clips of all their speakers. And I think they were pretty honest with the sample of the RWB.

Overall Rating : 6
Well, I wouldn't buy them again, but I hope it has become very clear that this is a matter of personal preference.

I now have a pair of Celestion Alnico Golds in my rig, and it sounds much more like the 'sound in my head'. The controls of the amp seem to behave much more sensitive, the clean-sounds are great, and overdrive just sounds perfect: 'Elegant, full-bodied, airy, soaring Dumble-tone'!

I bought the RWB because they are used in the cabs by the amp-manufacturer, and because they were really well-priced (just look at the Celestions for comparison!). But sometimes it seems to be true that what you pay for is what you get.

From manufacture:

120watts, 70HZ to 4.5K, 8Ohms, 12". Looking at the frequency response chart and from what others have reported, it has a flat frequency response. Very nice and heavy coated frame, rubber magnet protector, paper cone, no doping. Just overall a great looking speaker that delivers.

Sound Quality : 10
Here's where it shines and why I felt the need to post a review here on Harmony Central. Alot of people are using these for their cabs and combos and mainly go for the non-colored, flat response of the speakers so their guitar/pickups/amp shine through, but what I really couldn't find was anything about putting these in a line 6. I was seeing them mentioned on the line 6 forums and my flextone II XL was in need of a good speaker upgrade. These are fantastic for a modeling amp because of the higher wattage and no-color flat response. Every amp model and cab simulation improved greatly and now sound much more like some of the actual models. The higher wattage rating allows the spearkers to respond to the model breakup of the cab sim and not breakup themselves. For those that say these are for hard rock or metal, well when it comes to the line 6, that's way off. These can totally deliver whatever you're after. I play a custom built by me, 22fret, fat strat type of guitar with an EMG 89 in the bridge and 2 EMG S in the mid and neck. It's setup with a floyd rose with a tremol-no and d-tuna. We tune in E-flat so when I'm in a drop tuning, down to drop d-fat. The typical low frequency farting and muddiness is gone with the Eminence RWB's. The boogie and Marshall models are actually quite useful now, as I didn't really care for them as much with the stock speakers. The Soldano sings and the tweed is SRV all the way. It's so much easier to dial in a tone now when you don't have to compensate for the colorization or limits of your speakers. So, for those of you that have a line 6 and want to bring it to life, this is it! I giving it a ten only because these speakers completely exceeded what my expectations with this amp.

Reliability : 9
I've used Eminence speakers in various amps over the years and have yet to ever have a problem with them or blow them. Based on what I've experienced so far with these, I expect the same performance. Plus with each channel of the flextone II XL being only 50watts and the speakers rated at 120watts, I don't expect that they will ever blow. I've only had them in for a short time though, so my rating is based on overall experience from Eminence.

Customer Support : No Opinion
I've never had to deal with them. So 10 years and no problems from their speakers, says alot about their products.

Overall Rating : 10
I've been playing for almost 32 years now and I've been using line 6 stuff for about 10 years now, partly due to the convenience factor of needing a good modeling amp for cover band gigging. I know the line 6 models well enough that I can dial in a great, usable tone within just a few minutes without the need of using the editing software. But I'm just shocked at how much the sound improved with the use of these speakers and now I'm actually looking to use more models because I actually find them useable to my ears. I think they're a great match-up and this amp will never see anything else but these so overall, I have to give it a 10 because for the money spent, the improvement was that significant that I can't give it anything lower.

12", 8 ohms, 38 oz. magnet, 8 mounting holes, and a 120 Watt power rating. Very minimal to no doping. The Patriot line???s tasteful matte-black finish and RW&B sticker look nice in the back of my all-black combo cabinet (as compared to the Red Coats, which scream "look at me"). The rubber ring around the magnet and the thick front AND rear gaskets, for front- or rear-mounting, are a nice touch.

Sound Quality : 9
This speaker is the latest (and probably the last) of several speakers I've tried in my Peavey TransTube Studio Pro 112 solid-state amp. I performed a light break-in by playing bass guitar through it at low-to-moderate volume, just to get the speaker moving. Further break-in on guitar using lots of open- and bar-chords played fairly loudly with mild overdrive.

Cranking my American Standard Telecaster with Lindy Fralin Blues Specials through it, the Red White & Blues' excellent sustain is immediately noticeable. You can seemingly hang on to a note with a slow, subtle vibrato for days. The speaker also has an amazing deep and full presence to it.

The RW&B is responsive and articulate, with good solid lows (not spongy) and detailed (but not harsh) highs when clean. It does sound a lot like its ???cousin??? The Governor when pushed with overdrive-- not quite as thick and spongy as its British counterpart, but still lots of harmonic richness. Overall the RW&B provides some Fender color to your sound, but generally lets your fingers, strings, pickups, guitar, and amp shine through.

Reliability : 10
Most Eminence speakers have very high power ratings (120 W here!) and the speakers appear to be well-built and well-packaged. I'm giving a 10 here, because I've never had a problem with quality.

Customer Support : 10
I've occasionally emailed Eminence for speaker suggestions and they've provided a prompt and helpful response. But keep in mind that suggestions on "tone" are very subjective and you'll need to judge the sound yourself.

Overall Rating : 9
Almost exactly what I've been looking for, after trying a half-dozen other speakers in this amp. The RW&B is a very versatile American speaker that gets a great Fender-y clean sound, as well as that smooth, full, authoritative overdrive like a tweed or twin. Most Eminence speakers are comparable in price to Jensens (but much better!) and just as good as AND more affordable than an overpriced Celestion. I???ve been very impressed with most of the Patriots and Red Coats that I???ve tried.

Tight bottom end, balanced warm mids, and defined top end without being harsh. This speaker is the answer for that fast attack, defined low string riffs, without having the harsh top high end. This is the speaker that came installed in my Allen Accomplice and it is a perfect match for it. I first thought I could do better and tried several speakers that I had in other amps/cabs. The more speakers I tried (Texas Heat, Jensen C12N, and Celestion G12H) the more I realized the RW&B was the best speaker for my needs. It lets the guitar/amp shape the sound, without too much color from the speaker itself.

Reliability : No Opinion
Great, so far. It's 6 months old and sounds great. It's an American made product, enough said.

7 year warranty? Not sure how that works, it seems most failures of a speaker would be from abuse, but I'm sure Eminence would treat you right if you had any problems.

Overall Rating : 10
Great speaker for Fender open back type amps. I've since bought another for a 112 birch, open back cab. I don't know of a better all around guitar speaker out there, especially for the price. It's made in the good ole US of A, and it cost less than the Celestion Chinese models. Come on, it's a no brainer...just try one of the Eminence models and be proud you are supporting a blue collared American family.

hmmm, 12" SPEAKER. Has mounting holes, magnet, dustcap, you know the deal.

Sound Quality : 9
This is my favorite of the eminence speakers i have tried so far. i am using it with a Fuchs SLX50 head installed in an ear candy sovereign 1-12 ported cab. I mostly play jazz, blues, and fusion, and this speaker is perfect for these styles. the speaker is very balanced, the highs are nice, no ice pick here, the mids and lows are very smooth. i agree with the reviewer below, tonally these are close to the EV camp, but with some british high end on top. i have a youtube video you can check out if i can get it to post. This is about the best description i can give of this speaker, check it out.

i have been using this speaker for a year, and it handles my fuchs no problem. I have never had this speaker fart out, it always hangs in there. Even with my archtop playing jazz, it sounds great, not JBL-ish clean, but more organic sounding.

I have been playing for a long time, off and on, in a lot of varied styles. this is a very versatile speaker, i use a strat, semi-hollow body, and archtops. It works great for all of them. i have owned the eminence wizard, commonwealth, swamp thang, lots of celestions, ev's and jbl's.
this speaker is probably the most versatile od them all.

2006, 120 Watts, 12", 8 ohms.

Sound Quality : 9
This speaker solved a tone problem. I have a 50 watt, 1 X 12" cab amp with a tube rectifier - the amp already has a slightly softer attack. It had a Texas Heat which has a very loose, chunky base - not too focused. I wanted more puch, so I got a Legend 125. The Legend broke up much too soon. The RWB Struck a good balance - punchy and lively, yet not shrill on the treble. It's a fast speaker and very versatile.

Very EV like sound. Think SRV. Great sound, but NOT the British sound like Celestions. Think Fender with 6L6 not Marshall with EL34. Mine has never farted like the other reviewer. It's as clean and sharp as you want and sounds great when driven with a good amp. Maybe your amp was running out of power causing the farts?

Features???? Its a speaker for goodness sake!!!

Sound Quality : 8
Here's the beef of this review. This is one of the best speakers I've tried. This is a great speaker for those that are in the EV type of camp. Its not Celestion/British sounding or Jensen/JBL sounding. This is a nice cross between American smoothness with a hint of British character. If you're looking for the Robben Ford tone, this speaker delivers. It doesn't have the 1.5 - 2K dip/notch that makes British speakers too aggressive in the upper mids. If you look at the frequency curve, its very similar to EV's and the EV 'clones'. Totally flat from bass to mids, then the upswing at the upper mids/treble. What that means is a full, smooth, even balanced tone.

This speaker is not suited for a guitarist who wants to have the speaker drive the tone. I don't like speakers that color my tone all that much...but I don't want it to be boring either. Eminence has a real winner with this one. Think of it as a EV with just a hint of British / V30 flavor in the upper mids.

Excellent speaker. I've used all the speakers out there and this goes extremely well with my Fuchs ODS50. Nails the R.Ford to me. If you're into that tone, get this speaker. If your a heavy metal head or classic rock, this speaker probably wont have enough mid aggression for you.

It is a 12", 8 ohm speaker from Eminence's Patriot Series. Made in Eminence, KY right here in the USA. I play a 60 watt Mesa/Boogie Mark III 1x12 combo that I purchased back in 1987. I originally had a Celestion G12H-100 (British speaker; not Chinese) put in for added bite (it came with a Black Shadow speaker). I also purchased a Boogie ported 1x12 cabinet with an EV 12L. I?m also looking into replacing that speaker with an Eminence product as well.

Sound Quality : 10
I wanted to replace the stock Celestion because it didn?t give me the tone that I wanted and it also sounded a bit ?brittle? to my ears. Since I play blues, blues-rock and jazz the Celestion just won?t cut the sound I want. I did a lot of due diligence (i.e., homework) and found out about Eminence speakers. I even obtained the recent write up in Guitar Player as well as made numerous phone calls to speaker retailers. I debated forever over which one to obtain reading the db/Hz charts at Eminence?s website. Al? at USSpeaker was incredibly helpful and earned by business. I told him my primary guitar is a Heritage 535 with Seymour Duncan Seth Lover humbuckers (tone to die for!). I told him I was looking for a blend of Robben Ford?s smooth syrupy tone and Larry Carlton?s sweetness but was worried about some speakers (like the Swamp Thang or Texas Heat) making my guitar sound tubby. He told me to look at the RWB or even the Legend 121. I asked about the Cannabis Rex and he said ?Not as your primary speaker; your 60watt Boogie may blow it!? Thanks Al! It came down to the Red, White and Blue, the Legend 121, and the Tonker. When I added that I wanted the Boogie to drive the speaker but I could use a little breakup, he finally recommended the RWB which I ultimately purchased. I could not be happier!

The speaker has the four factors (?WWSS?) that I was looking for: warmth, wetness, sweetness and smoothness. It has such warmth to it that notes and chords seem to hug you. It has a ?wet? sound to it; not thick and syrupy like Robben Ford?s but seems to wash over you (like Clapton once said about tone ?diving into a pool of warm water?). It was a sweet sound in the mid-treble registers (?sparkle? is Eminence?s word for it) and it is smooooooth! The notes and chords don?t sound harsh at all (like it did with the Celestion); the notes seem to blend together and have a fullness to them. The bass notes are tight and have some good punch to it. It?s not ?heavy? or ?bassy? but enough to emphasize the notes on the lower strings in lower registers. All notes ring sweet and clear and are very pleasing to the ear.

Reliability : No Opinion
Appears solidly built and considering the fact that it's rated at 125 watts I won?t blow it out.

Customer Support : 10
I called Eminence and spoke to one of their Tech's asking for advice; very eager to help. (they also recommended the RWB!) Special thanks to Al at US Speaker (www.usspeaker.com). As mentioned, I spoke with Al and he spent around one to two hours working through the tonal charts with me and provided his opinion. Also, there prices are pretty much on-the-money with other retailers.

Overall Rating : 10
So far so good! Like any amp with a new speaker I still need to make minor tweaks to my sound. But - within the first 5 minutes I knew I was onto something good! It also sounds incredible at louder stage volumes too! (I had to beg my wife to leave the house for a couple of hours!). Looking forward to hearing it at my next gig!

This is a 12" speaker from Eminence's Patriot Series. Made in the USA.

Sound Quality : 9
I play a Tele into a Traynor YCV40 Amplifier. I wanted to replace the stock Celestion that came with the amp. I needed something tighter sounding that could handle the bass notes better. I play 70s and 80s classic rock/pop. This is a nice balanced speaker. The Traynor amp is very bright to begin with and I was fortunate that this speaker was able to tame the inherent brightness of the amp. However, the frequency response is very good. The highs aren't gone, it's just not so bright anymore. This is a good thing. It took me a while to get used to this speaker. The reason being that that I was playing with my amp's volume on 1 or 2 (bedroom levels) and it just sounded lousy, particularly when it was overdriven or when I was using a distortion pedal. Apparently, this speaker has a higher breakup point than the old speaker and it needs to be pushed harder. When I took it to rehearsal I was pleasantly surprised. I usually play with the volume at about 4 or 5 for rehearsals and gigs. This speaker shines at that volume. Nice sweet sustain and really tight sounding. I think it's rated for 125 Watts and my amp only puts out 40 when it's maxed. If you only plan on playing at bedroom levels then don't buy this speaker. But, if you need a tighter sounding speaker for gigging then you've got to check out this speaker! You won't be disappointed.

It seems solidly built and considering the fact that it's rated at 150 watts (or 125, I can't remember)and I'm playing through a 40 watt amp, this thing should last forever.

I haven't dealt with them. I emailed them once and they returned my email within a day. I can't complain.

I love this speaker. Again, it sounds great at louder volumes and doesn't sound good to me when it's overdriven at quieter volumes. If you push your amp and you need a great sounding replacement speaker then you should really try this speaker. At louder volumes it sounds great clean or overdriven. I bought mine from Dana at www.ddspeaker.com He's a great guy to deal with and I would recommend that you check out his page.

THIS SPEAKER BY EMINENCE IS A REPLACEMENT IN A CRATE MODELING AMP.I WANTED AN AFFORDABLE SPEAKER FOR A PRACTICE AMP.MARKETED AS A BLUES SPEAKER WITH TIGHT LOW END ,SMOOTH MIDS AND HIGH END SPARKLE.IT DOES JUST THAT.I WAS SURPRISED TO FIND THE LOW END WAS VERY GOOD.I TRIED A CELESTION ANNIVERSERY SPEAKER BUT LOW END WAS TOO PROMINANT.THIS SPEAKER IS A VERY BALANCED ONE.VERY FENDERY SOUND.I GUESS SO ,THATS WHATS IN MY FENDER HOT ROD ALSO,AN EMINENCE.IT DEFINITELY GETS THE HIGHEND SPARKLE,I HAD TO TURN DOWN THE TREBLE ON MY GUITARS.USING A RICENBACKER LAGUNA,AND A GIBSON ES 137.
