No doubt, this speaker is loud with lots of high end definition. I installed it in a MusicMan RD50 from 1982. The lifeless sounding stock speakers are the Achille's heals to these otherwise decent amps.

The Screaming Eagle really resurected this amp. After 3 hours of break-in it's sounds a lot like a hot rodded Jensen. It's not harsh and has very solid bass, but even with the amp treble on 3 and the tone backed off on my Strat, it's very bright. Things improved with Humbuckers but not a lot.

Overall, I think this would be an excellent speaker for a blues lead with humbuckers, a surf band, or a 60's British invasion band. Hard rockers - stay away....

What's its true power rating? Eminence's current propaganda lists it as 50 watts but previously, it was listed as 75. Over the phone, Eminence assured me it would have no problem handling a 75 watt amp.

If you're into vintage tones, this may be your ticket. It you wanna' rock, look at the Black Powder or the Texas Heat.

Made in 2005, Eminence Kentucky. A 12" speaker, 8 ohms

Sound Quality : 10
I play everything from rock, metal, blues, a little jazz, minimal country. The speaker is bright, with balanced smooth mids, & a tight punchy low end. The high mids are not present (ala british speakers). The mids seemed to be balanced throughout, without any severe dips. The highs are pronounced, but I don't find it be "piercing," or "harsh." It probably has about the same or less highs than a Celestion Greenback (i think it is a brighter speaker).

You can tell it has an overall scooped mid tone when playing clean. It has a very jensen/fenderish vibe. It is really smooth, nice for jazz. As for distortion, it is even smoother. You don't get that "grainy, nasal," sound of the celestion (british speakers). It reminds me of the eminence red ryder in feel, but with less upper mids.

I am playing a Mesa F50 & Mesa Nomad. both already have a grainy tone. The screaming eagle smooths it out, and now you get this really smooth, thick tone minus the overexcessive grainyness of teh british speakers. If you don't like the nasal/grainy sound of the celestion, this speaker will work well for you!

Overall, it is not as dark as the original jensens. It is a nice bright speaker, great for metal, rock, and blues. works well in both open back & close back.

Reliability : 10
No problems, no cone cry, no farting out at high volumes.

didn't talk to them, nor will I be talking with them anytime soon. Build quality is excellent.

Overall Rating : 9
Great american speaker, that isn't as dark as the original jensen's. Tone is clear, highs very airy, balanced midrange, with a tight bottom. Great for many styles.

Brand new speaker that needed breaking in, it sounded pretty bad until it was cranked up loud and then it really performed nice and after running it hard for a while it then sounded better at lower volume. At high volume you get bass, not real deep bass but it's there and very firm and tight. The highs break up smooth, not grainy and this was right out of the box and not broken in yet. This speaker is very upfront and in your face. The speaker seems like the presence is always on, not that the speaker is too bright (it's not) the highs are just pronounced and upfront in the mix of tones the speaker is capable of. It's quite dynamic not a mellow speaker (Brash?). The highs stay focused and not fizzy and lead runs stand out well. I was not happy with the midrange and it took some tweaking of the tone controls to get the right sound. This seemed to get better as the speaker broke in. I did not find this speaker very good for Jazz, sweet blues or pop-rock but for raw blues, rock and new metal it seemed to work well. This is not in any way like a Celestion speaker, maybe closer to a Jensen on steriods. I would say it's an Eminence tone.

Called them for advice and talked to a person and this was nice but they were not much help in describing the tone of their speakers. It's trail and error.

I liked it for lead, power chords and boogie rythum, disappointed in playing clean chords, hoping this gets better as it breaks in. One may find themselves tired of the brashness after a while but it's fun if your in the mood for what it does.
