I bought these Eminence Texas Heat speakers to put in a Fender FM 212R amp. Before I put these speakers in I hated the sound of that amp. It seemed to have this over-abundance of 1.2 - 1.6k frequency that just sounded really trashy. And it would sound worse the louder I turned it up. I could EQ it out with a graphic, but it still wasn't happenin'. But now, with the Texas Heat's, all the trashyness is gone. Just a rich, throaty, tight, crisp sound!!! And the more I turn it up... the better it sounds!!! I am in AWE!! I didn't think I would see any improvement putting these speakers in a cheap solid state amp, but I was wrong. I bet these speakers would improve the sound of any amp, be it tube or cheap solid state.

I have only had these for a month so I can't comment on reliability. However, they are 150 watt speakers and I have 2 of them in a 100 watt amp. So I imagine they will take anything I throw at them and should last for years and years. Knock on wood.

I think for the price these speakers are a tremendous value! I have a Peavey 212 Valve King that I am going to outfit with a set of the other Eminence speakers. I want to put Red Coat Governors in that just so I can get a sample of their other models. These Texas Heat's almost make my Fender FM 212R solid state sound better than my all tube Valve King!!
I also have a B-52 AT 212 all tube 100 watt combo that might eventually get a set of Eminence's also. Maybe the Swamp Thang's. If lost or stolen I would buy another set of Texas Heat's in a heartbeat!! I love the way these speakers sound, and even the way they look. I am totally sold on these Eminence Patriot - Redcoat series speakers. I am sure they are ALL great.

I like this speaker because it can really handle the lower frequencies nicely. It has a big, deep tone with a nice bit of highs on top. However, the bass is not overly compressed or punchy - just smooth. It handles hard picking over humbuckers without boominess. Distortion sounds really full and rich - it absorbs all the playing spikes..kinda like having a really good compressor on board without the squashed tones!. But it still keeps up with fast picking. I use this in a 1 X 12" 50 watt tube amp.

If you tend to play hard live and don't like you're speaker farting out when digging into riffs, then try one of these. It really keeps its composure, yet is very responsive at the same time. Hmmm, how do they do that?

Very nice sounding speaker. On low wattage it is very full sounding and a bit bassy-mid. As you crank it up to higher wattage it starts to get that top end bite but somehow seems to retain it's fullness. I've been impressed with it so far. I have it in an Avatar 2x12. I'm convinced that the biggest improvement that you can make to the sound of your amp is to upgrade the speakers.

I've been running one Texas Heat with a Vintage 30 in a 2x12 cab.
I don't think you could find a btter combination. I've used it live
& recorded with it twice. The Texas Heat delivers! Great Low-end, not al ot of mids, but that's what a Vintage 30 or an Eminence Governor is for.
No Speaker can do it all! Mix your speakers, just match your ohms.
I've used the cabinet mentioned with a Hiwatt 50, JCM 800, Laney Pro Tube, Peavey Butcher & more. No matter what I plug the cabinet into it sounds killer!

I've been at this Rock & Roll thing for 25 years. The new Eminence speakers are awesome. You can really dial in your tone mixing & matching speakers. I'm going to put another Texas Heat in a 2x12 cab with a Governor. The Governor's have Mids like no other speaker & the Texas Heat brings the bottom. I don't know that I would use this speaker in a 1x12 combo or by themselves in a 2x12 or 4x12. They do have great tone but like most speakers over 100 watts they lack Mids.
This speaker together with a V30 or a Governor you have the best of both worlds. If you ran a 4x12 cab with 2 Texas Heats on the bottom & 2 Governors or V30's on the top you will have one of the best sounding cabs on the planet. If I was still hauling around 4x12 cabs, that's exactly what I'd load them with.
Don't be affraid to mix speakers. Always match the ohm rating!

I had this in a pine cabinet, but after awhile I noticed that this speaker sounded boomy in the pine cab. I've since run it outboard in an Avatar cab (plywood) and the boominess is gone - just smooth warmth. And its surprisingly articulate for jazz and fingerstyle too. My current setup is Heritage Patriot 1 X 12" amp with a Legend 125 on board. I run a 4ohm outlet to my Avatar, then use the out jack on the avatar to attach the internal speaker in parallel. Really nine tones with this combination.

Its a versatile speaker, but don't expect prominent highs cutting through the mix. That's why I use it with the Legend 125 - they compliment each other.

150 Watts, mine was the 16 ohm model, it's also available in 8. Huge magnet on the back of this puppy and loud. Designed to be a great all around speaker for blues, American rock and country, but being a metal head I figured I'd load a 4x12 with these and let it rip. It works well enough within the style's it's designed for and even outside of that too. A good loud speaker with some down south bite in the mix.

Alright, to test these puppies out, I put them in a cab matched with a B-52 AT-100 head. The main test guitar was my Gibson Les Paul Studio, which runs on a 490-R and 498-T humbucker combination. On the clean channel, these delivered. Nice crisp (but not piercing) top end, good full low end, and nice mid tone. Even turning it up these things didn't exhibit any breakup or being unable to handle the bass response. The clarity was really nice and with some reverb it sounded great. I even hooked up my chorus pedal to give that a go and it sounded fantastic.
I play heavy rock and metal so I had to kick it over to the distortion. I immediately went for gain 2 just to let this thing sing. Oh man does this thing rock. If you're going for an ultra scooped sound, these aren't the speakers you want. They've got their own inherent mids and a heck of a growl to 'em. The low end is great, but it's more chunky, not so tight, but I dig that so it works. The top end sings. Very crisp, but not piercing or biting, and with the head that I'm working with that helps. I've never had a lead tone this good. Kick it over to the neck pickup and this thing delivers some smooth crunch and great "woman tone" highs and sustain. Power chords have a good chunk and throat to them and these puppies can cut really well. They're also pretty damn loud which is great. At low volumes you can get a good sound going, but you don't lose that tone at higher volumes. In fact, it just becomes more full and responsive. All in all, great volume, good sounds and just a little classic bite and snarl. I dig it. Adds some personality to your tone.

I've messed around with some other speakers over the years. I've used Celestions (GH-12s and Vintage 30s) and I've used some stock no-name speakers also (Crate, Ampeg). These replaced some Crate 30 watters found in a Blue Voodoo cab and I couldn't be happier. The crunch feels more responsive but not overly piercing. They've got great tone and excellent response and dynamics. They've given me the sound I wanted and the volume I desired also. 150 watts is loud, but practicing with another guitar player that doesn't like to turn down, hey, I've got to have something to match him with. There's nothing I really don't like about these. If anything, I wish I had 4 more for my other cab! For the money you could do a lot worse. A whole lot worse. It beats spending $100+ on Vintage 30s a piece, and you get a whole lot more balls and personality in my opinion.

12" speaker, large magnet on back, rated at 150 Watts. Speaker works well in low wattage amps, I use it in a 40 watt and it performs very well.

Using it in a tube amp with an open back cab. Speaker's not broken in yet and sounding nice. This speaker is well balanced, Bass, mids and treble relation is good. Theres plenty of bass and the bass is decent sounding, firm not tubby and it does not sound boxey. It does NOT have the deep low bass of a Celestion V30 but what it does have is very usuable. Mids are nice, a bit brighter than a Celestion but not overly bright and chords sound out nice (I did not like the mids on the Screamin Eagle or Blue tick hound as they seemed too piercing, especially on chords). The highs are clean, focused and are not thin and overly bright. This is a very musical sounding speaker and works well for many styles. It respondes well to tone control changes, you can crank the bass, roll off the mids completely or bump it up, raise the treble etc. and it respondes well allowing for good tayloring of tone. The speaker breaks up nice and works well when distorted, it does not get fizzy or add additional break-up like a Celestion but gives nice focused lead runs that sound nice tonally, not to thin and not overly bright. A Celestion has a woody or reedy character with a cone break up when distorted that is loose and somewhat fuzzy adding to or enhancing the distrortion your already running into the speaker. The Eminence on the other does not add woodyness or a reedyness type coloration and when using distortion or overdrive it is firmer or tighter yet not grainy and does not seem to add additional distortion or overdrive. If your use to a Celestion speaker's cone break-up you may have to re-evauluate your overdrive or distortion stomp boxes in realtion to this speaker. Mine seem to perform better. This speaker tends to lean towards the Jensen tone and in some ways I find it sounding somewhat like a Jensen MOD 50 but with much better bass and highs and cone break up that is very Distortion or overdrive friendly.

I find this speaker versitle and good for many syles. It works well in an open back cabinet. It seemed more musical than the Screamin Eagle or Blue Tick Hound. It works well for Blues, Jazz, Pop Rock, Classic and hard rock, metal. It does not have the British tone and for that you will need a Celestion, I use a Classic Lead 80 or V30 when I need the Celestion sound/distortion/overdrive character.

This speaker is among the best sounding I've ever heard. I've owned many types including the Celestion Vintage 30 and this one takes the prize. I play this through a 50watt tube amp and the clarity is very nice at high volumes. This speaker doesn't really break up at high volumes. But it has a warm, fat tone that retains clarity yet somehow gets a touch fatter sounding - hard to describe. Nice sweet highs too - no ice pick trebles on this baby. I play a humbucker equipped guitar that throws a fairly hot signal. These speakers handle it with aplomb. The 2" voice coil gives this a real throaty voice even in the high registers. You will be heard through the mix with this speaker. You will not regret this speaker unless you're looking for vintage breakup or piercing trebles.

I have this speaker in a carvin nomad it puts out 33.5 watts .this speaker realy lets your power amp shine there is littel speaker distorion so it's all power tube distortion when crank and is very smoth ,full and rich body at any volume on a clean channel .On a channel with lots gain this speaker will let all the different stages of distortion shine through also .I like this speaker it is a grate replacement .It responds well to E.Q.,volume,preamp and your guitar pickups.I play a Tele with rio Grande pickups and it gives me everything from Roy Buchanan to Rolling Stones. With my Strat I get SRV.With my 335 this speaker loves it .The amp start to braek up at 4 I get Jhonny be good on the bridage pickup and at 7 on the neck pickup the best blues. The second channel with this speaker and the 335 gives me velvet distortion to screaming feed back that makes me smile.

This speaker is grate for me I play alots of giggs from small places to large and at any volume or mic the speaker sounds grate.I would buy it again .This speaker can handel any kind of music and any combo amp at any power rating .With its balance E.Q grate out put and the lightly doppin around the cone will let your guitar and amp tone come out with littel coloration from the speaker .But, if you looking for early speaker distortion or breakup from the speaker this isn't it.There is a differents between power amp (tube or soild state) distortion and speaker distortion.I have been playing for 18 years and tried lots of speakers and I like this the best.

This speaker is very responsive and WARM! Playing it in a Heritage Combo at 50 watts. Very articulate and holds its cool at high volumes. I'd describe the sound as full bass, moderately full mids, and sweet highs. My opinion differs from others on this doping discussion...I think the doping adds to the overall quality of its sound by stabilizing the cone and giving you a more solid, clean tone - especially at higher volumes it retains its character instead of getting rough around the edges....but I suppose if you want it to get rough, this isn't good. I've played undoped speakers and at high volumes, they're not my cup of tea. I'm not sure if I've ever heard "cone cry", but undoped speakers to me get flubby at high volumes. If I had another combo needing 12" speakers....darnit there'd be Texas Heats in there!!
