If the Wizard is to spikey for you and if you find the Governor to midrangey, please try the Tonespotter ! It is said that it is modeled after the Celestion G12-65. Maybe so, but they do not sound too close. The TS has much better bass and more treble going on. The Heritage G12-65 is nice, but as lively and transparent in the response.
Great speaker !

Sadly the TS was the last of the Red Coat Line i checked out. My favorite.

It is a 12" 75 W at 8 Ohm guitar speaker. Nothing more and nothing less.
It is crated after the Celestion G12-65, wich I don??t know, hoe it sounds. The sensitivity is 100.7 dB, so it is pretty loud or effective.
I wanted a speaker, that tames the highs of my 18W Marshall clone.
And it does very well!

Sound Quality : 9
It gives a really thick and warm tone, but also with a good clarity. So it works best with trebly amps and guitars. The bass responce and the lower mids are really round and ballsy. It moves some serious air, amazing! Combined with a more trebly speaker like vinatge 30, it rocks like nothing else.

Reliability : 10
So far no probs!

I play guitar over 20 years and I own Fender USA Hot Rod Vintage 62 Strat, USA Deluxe Fatstrat, MIM Robert Cray Strat and a MIM 72 classic Tele Custom (all amazing guitars!). I play this guitars through a Hughes&Kettner Trilogy head , a Ceriatone 18W TMB head and a costum tweed deluxe combo. I only can tell you to check this speaker out! The bass responce is the best, I have heard so far. Combined with another more trebly speaker you have a rock weapon!

Eminence Tonespotter 75w 8ohm speaker from the Red Coat series, most likely a late 2005 model. Purchased new as overstock from Avatar Speakers, so no warranty on this one. Weighs about 8 lbs according to the Eminence website. Copper voice coil with ferrite magnet and paper cone construction. One website claims this is Eminence's version of a Celestion G12T-65. Is that true? I'm the wrong guy to ask...

Made by Americans in Eminence, KY.

Used in a 2x12 cabinet driven by a THD Univalve, wired in parallel for a 4 ohm load.

Sound Quality : 8
Advertised as "smooth and warm with a fat bottom edge and highs that cut through the mix" and "warm and thick overtones" which is more or less what you get. I find it to be a little on the fuzzy side and maybe a smidge too warm, but I've also gotten very clear, sharp tones when adjusting the treble/bass on my amp and guitar controls. As it's part of the Red Coat series, I'd say it's pretty on the mark for British tones, but as that's really subjective in the first place, I find it more a mental thing. I would possibly pair it with another Eminence from the Patriot series or even a UK Celestion just to balance the output.

Haven't had an issue yet; as I bought it as an overstock I wouldn't be able to request warranty assistance anyway.

I've cranked up my Uni pretty loud and I haven't come close to hurting these speakers.

Eminence has recently updated their website and it looks great with even more information than before. Avatar Speakers has a reputation as a company that is very focused on customer service. My experience with them was nothing short of fantastic. I would certainly buy from Dave in the future.

Overall this is a great deal on an American-made speaker for your cabinet or combo. While I would not necessarily buy another Tonespotter, this is worth considering if you're replacing a stock speaker and like a little grit with your sound.

The main reason I bought this speaker was the overstock price made it very budget-friendly to build my 2x12 cabinet. While I'd certainly get an Eminence again, I probably would have chosen a Private Jack and The Governor pairing instead. Still, I'm still very happy with this speaker.
