It's a speaker.
It's apparently intended to be Eminence's answer to the Celestion G12H, but it's so much more.
It qualifies as a speaker - so it gets a 10 for features.

Sound Quality : 10
I was seriously considering buying a Celestion Vintage 30 to replace the stock Wharfedale speaker in my Vox Ac15cc1. But here in the Toronto area (Cdn currency) Celestion = overpriced. So I looked to Eminence. I was trying to find the right fit when I stumbled across a Youtube video of a guy who does a straight comparison of the V30 and the Wizard, and I was blown away. (Search Youtube for "speaker comparison" ) It had the same 70-80's hard rock raunch, but the Wizard had more base, and no high end fizz out. I figured it was worth the cost of the Eminence speaker to give it a shot, and man am I glad I did. This speaker pounds, sears, crunches ...It has deep, tight bass. Mids that cut thru, and a singing high end that doesn't ice pick your ears. But a footnote to all you bedroom 1x12 combo players - This speaker needs to be pushed to reach its full potential! Dont get me wrong, it sounds very good at low volumes, articulate and still aggressive. But when you push all of that 75 watt goodness, you get rich harmonics, nice feedback and low end chunky punch with no mud. It really does measure up to the V30 in every way I hoped. And FYI... for you AC15 owners: I upgraded my preamp tubes to Tungsol Reissues. Between the tubes and the Wizard, I'm getting some nice marshall-type tones.

My rig: Elitist Les Paul Standard >>> BBE Green Screamer >>> Vox Ac15cc1. = Priceless!!

Reliability : 10
From what I can see, this speaker is built like a tank. Don't believe all those reviews that say Eminence products are inferior. That little town is pushing out some good product. And no, I don't work for them. I wish I had the money for a 4x12 with 2 Wizards and 2 Texas Heaters.

Customer Support : 1
I sent them an email asking for more information about the Wizard and got no response. Shame on you Eminence. In this day of online purchases and email inquiries, responses should be same day!
You're lucky I don't hold a grudge!

Overall Rating : 10
I have long loved the sound of Celestion speakers... the Greenback, the V30, the Alnicos... rock and roll bliss. But I'm now a convert. Eminence is making some sweet products, and whether youre on a budget like me or not - a better product is a better product.
Bravo Eminence!

I've been playing on and off since I was 7. I'm now 34. I play hard rock.. GnR, Van Halen, 70- 80's rock.

Sound Quality : 10
Very good to mix with other speakers.
I use 2 of these and 2 Celestion V12-60 (same speakers that you can find in the ENGL standard 4x12 cabsin a 4x12 cab.
The mix with 2 diferent kind of speakers makes my cab more full sounding.
Wizards give some rawness.
The sound is louder with the wizards mixed.
These speakers have to brake in, but thats normal.
The wizard is louder and more in the mix than the Celestion.
But i need the Celestion v12-60 for that palmmute chunk lowness.
Like some people before say that this wizard speaker is very good to combine with other speakers.
I also know the sound of the g12-30h and the wizard comes very close.

live I used many cabs from other bands when sharing some backline.
But I'm most pleased with my stuff and also bands that used my cab. are very pleased with the sound that they get from it.

you already know the features , read the other guys posts if not. I play metal primarily of all styles new and old.

This speaker absolutely kills. Put two into a mesa standard 4x12 cabinet with two texas heats in an "X" pattern. This is the difintive New metal tone IMHO. Everything you need tight chunky bass, clear crisp highs, and all the raunchy mids you need without any icepick highs or farty low end. This speaker loves to be mixed with other types but im sure it would sound great alone as well. I play with mahogany guitars and emg humbuckers. (if youve got the emg's do the 18 volt mod immediatley! google it!)

Beeen playing twelve years, own all sorts of gear, GAS sufferer for many years. Would buy this again and again, if fact I will probably never use anything else. finally found MY tone. And far far less cash than the china-lestion not so vintage icepick 30. If your a metal guy looking for new speakers try these. kick the vintage 30 to the curb once and for all. If you can, mix it with a texas heat and shatter skulls.

75w 8 ohm 12" speaker in a red textured finish. The only feature is the cone moves back & forth when hit with a signal. Would the textured finish be a feature? That gets an 8 for the coolness factor. Got a great deal from Avatar speakers, they get all my speaker business now.

Sound Quality : 8
Emininence states this is their version of the Celestion G12h. I don't have a G12h to compare this to, but it sounds extremly balanced. Good blend of lows, mids, & highs. I used 4 of these to replace the crappy, fizzy sounding Celestions that come stock in the Marshall AVT 4x12 cabs, and I use the AVT50 head. I play classic rock, hard rock, metal, etc. and I like to mess around w/ blues & jazz a bit, although I'm a hack at the latter. The sounds are thick & defined at the same time. These are described as having a tight bottom, and they're right. I was able to max out my low end, and even boost the low a bit more with a graphic, and no farting out, just good heavy chug on the distorted settings. Nice bloom on the clean settings. You know when you pluck a note on the "G" string, and the note swells a bit before it decays? That was non-existent with the stock speakers, these have plenty of that. Really good articulation, great punch, and helped tame the high end harshness of the AVT. This rig sounds really good now, extremely good for a mostly solid-state amp. Others have said it sounds even more like a tube amp now.

Reliability : 10
I've had them for about a month, so I can't rate these, but every other Eminence product I've ever had never failed, and I've gigged before many times w/o a backup. I have no reason to believe these won't last as long.

Customer Support : 10
Sent Eminence an email asking about various speakers, and got a conciose reply in less than 24 hours. The best support is never needing them, which in my past experience, I never have.

Overall Rating : No Opinion
Been playing for 25 years. If stolen, I'd get more of the same, or I'd try one of the other Patriot/Red Coat series. I've read other that say this speaker excelles for blues & jazz. All I can say is what I'm able to play in those styles sounds better. :)
In addition to the sound, I love the fact that it's an American company taking a stab at becoming legendary like the aforementioned Celestion, especially now that Celestion is doing quite a bit of manufacturing in China. The timing couldn't have been better, really.
I hate...nothing at all
Compared these to Celestion Gt75s, V30s, and the Rocket 50s. These won hands down. Also have previously used the Legend 125s. The Wizards are head & shoulders above those Eminence speakers.
Awesome job, Eminence

75 watt 12" guitar speaker, ceramic.

Sound Quality : 9
I?m not a collector, just a player. I play two Ernie Ball Music Man guitars; one Silhouette Special and an older Axis Sport, both with SSH configuration and US made. The Special is alder with rosewood board and uses Dimarzio p?ups, while the Axis Sport is ash with maple board, and is loaded with Duncan?s. The Special is MM?s Strat, while the Axis Sport has true Tele vibes, and is much more articulate than the Special. I mention these things because given the pickup configuration and different woods, there?s a barrel full of tone options to run through the Wizard, giving it a pretty thorough wringing out.

First, I?ve discovered, as have a couple other posters here, that combining the Wizard with another speaker seems to bring out the best tones I?ve yet to find. In my case, the Wizard is loaded into a slightly rodded LC50 Laney (older 6L6 model) combo, and I?m using an Eminence Alnico Red Fang in an extension half-back Ear Candy Cab. In a word: Amazing. I?ve played through the Wizard by itself, and love it. Warm, articulate, lots of sustain, great pick attack, tight bottom ? the ticket for SRV-ish blues and old rock n roll. That said, when combined with the Red Fang, add to the above some top end sizzle (which can be rolled off with tone control), juicy harmonics and a clearly defined bass "twang" response. These two speakers together work some mighty mojo.

Rating the Wizard alone, I'd give it an 8. But here I'm giving it a 9 because of how well it plays together with the Fang.

The Wizard alone is an outstanding speaker, but if you?re going to be using 2x12, and you already have a quality speaker, consider trying the Wizard along with it before replacing both of your current speakers with a Wizard. You may just be blown away by what you hear. I am.

Reliability : 9
I'm fairly new to Eminence products, but I'm impressed with their quality. I don't play insanely loud, and I don't abuse my gear. I expect this speaker to have a long life ahead of it.

Customer Support : 9
No idea. Based on reputation, though, I'll give it a respectable rating.

Overall Rating : 9
I've been playing for 40 years (yeah, I'm an ole hacker).

Over all, it's an excellent sounding speaker, alone or combined with another quality speaker, which to me is where it really shines.

If it were stolen, I'd get another. In fact, I'm getting another anyway. :)

I just finished building two dual-EL84, 18 watt tube amps loosely based on the Marshall 18 watt design. I conducted an Eminence three speaker shootout including the Private Jack, Governor and the Wizard.

To my ears, and with my amps, the Wizard blows the other two away. The Wiz has an amazing character that allows it to play crystal clear, warm Strat chime and cluck; warm Les Paul neck pickup jazz and then, with a twist of the guitar's volume knob, screaming lead.

The break up pattern is very pleasing: warm and articulate. Pick attack comes through nicely. It's versatile, but for classic rock and blues lead tones it roars like a Marshall driven speaker should.

To my ears the Wiz is a terrific all around speaker that gives gobs of juicy overdrive/distortion and can then clean up for detailed tube tone. Nice.

If it were stolen I would definitely buy another. I am the owner of Mack Music Systems Limited and I am about to introduce my first hand built tube amp. I like the Wizard so much I have selected it to be the standard speaker in a 1x12 configuration.

It's a speaker. Looks heavy duty.

Sound Quality : 8
The guy who put one in his triple X alongside the V 30 did what I eventually wound up doing in my Peavey 2 X 12 tube amp. I bought two of these to make my amp louder but these are so fucking sensitive and HI-FI that it fucked with the overall tone. So I experimented and went back to one Peavey Shefield (Peavey's V 30?) and one Wizard. The amp just rocks with this setup. I sold the other Wizard for 50 bucks.
I can't explainn what the fuck is up with this speaker but it sounds so fucking good when its with another speaker. By itself it isnt all that fucking great.
I play Modern Rock and Metal with a PRS bolt on and a Ibanez JS 100 with EMGs. This Speaker is kick-ass for distortion or clean but that's only when its with the Peavey speaker going full blast too. All by itself the wizard sounded too fucking exact like a HI FI with no character of their own. Maybe they bring out all the good shit that the peavey Shefield doesn't have? Mixing the speakers sounds way better than the two Peavey Shefields or two Wizards together. WTF?

It?s round. Looks like a speaker. Hey..it IS a speaker.

Sound Quality : 10
I dropped this into a ROLAND BC-60 blues cube as a replacement speaker. Very nice. Articulate and rich sounding with plenty of tight bottom. Better clarity than the ROLAND V12 ?Vintage? speaker it replaced. This is a very smooth sounding, well balanced speaker that doesn?t show any strong tendencies toward Low, Mid or High frequencies. That said, it actually projects well in all registers. I 'm using a BOSS compressor so it?s guitar-compressor-BC-60. The BC-60 is an amp that will go from squeaky Fender clean to monster Marshall crunch, so the Wizard gets a wide-spectrum workout in it. At 60 watts RMS, the BC-60 is capable of pushing the Wizard close to its continuous duty rating. I haven?t experienced any problems..in fact the speaker seems even better at higher volume levels, with just a little cone breakup. No farting out on the low end-it?s nice and tight. No midrange spike-it is well behaved and smooth. No High end shrillness-very pleasing highs. The Wizard reacts powerfully to the BC-60s channel EQs and presence knob. Makes the EQ really effective.
These are very good, very LOUD, very articulate speakers for blues, classic or hard rock. They don?t add much color so if you like the sound of your guitar?s marriage to your amp then this is the speaker for you. I LOVE it with the BC-60.

I came across this speaker while testing some candidates for the BC-60. I tested the amp with a compressor and the guitars were Les Paul and Ibanez Strat. Both guitars held their signature character sound perfectly. I also plan to do a review of a Swamp Thang in the BC-60, so look over at the Eminence Swamp Thang if you?re interested. Overall, I rate the Wizard as superior to the ROLAND V12, which is a fine sounding speaker in its own right. For an amp of this type, the Wizard is a good choice in my humble opinion. Probably not the best choice for metal, although they might make for a good mix with another speaker type. I'm giving the WIZARD an 8 overall because I don't feel this is the speaker of choice for more modern, very heavy styles. But if you like classic rock and blues tones and the classic Brit amp sound through Greenback speakers then you should check this one out.

I put this my 2-12 120 watt Peavey Triple XXX, along side a Celestion V-30. WOW this Speaker Rips!!! I'm thinking about pulling the Celestion, and adding another one of these!!! The stock spkrs in the XXX were really good, but I always read about the Celestion G12H-30 as being the "TONE", but it's only rated for 30 watts. With more research, I found the Wizard is modeled after it, but having a 75 watt rating!! I never did get to hear the G12H-30, nor do I care....this is the Speaker for me............Oh yeah, these are loud!!! 103d!!!

Well, it came in a nice box that I can re-use...

I play a 2004 Mexican Strat with True Tone Technologies '54s (guys, you really have to check this pickup builder out!) and a 1998 PRS, one piece mahogany body, McCarty type with S.D. 59 at the neck and a JB at the bridge. I have several amps but my main ones are a Koch Multitone 50W head and an Oli Cabs 2 X 12" cabinet with Celestion G12Hs, and a Traynor YCV40 40W combo amp. I use the Wizard in the Traynor amp.
Having said all that, I believe that Traynor amps should come stock with this speaker - Yorkville would do well to cut the Celestion 70/80 and go with this Eminence speaker! The amp itself is great, but the 70/80 would crap out at higher volumes. I swapped the 70/80 with a Jensen C12N that I had on the shelf and the crapping out problem was solved and the Jensen sounded real good, but the amp still needed something... I started checking out the Eminence line of speakers and ordered a Wizard from ddspeakers.com (great price) just from the tonal desciption. I slapped the Wizard in, and the Traynor took on a whole new tone that seemed to complete the amp's sound! The highs are smoothed, the mids are more pronounced and gutsy, while the lows are tight and well balanced. This is definitely the speaker for this amp!

Eight ohm variety. Nice powder-coat finish. Rubber protective ring around the magnet, Well constructed. Handles up to 75 watts of power. Seventy to 55K Hz response curve. VERY VERSATILE in terms of the range of good, useable tones/textures. Excels at everything.

I've had a pair of these in a Peavey Ranger for about 4 months. I run an Ibanez and a Les Paul through it with no pedals or effects in the loop. After doing some research I settled on the Wizards for their versatilaty and I'm very pleased with them. They respond very well to the Ranger's EQ. I've always been an "all EQ knobs on 10" kind of guy but I've changed my mind since I've installed these speakers. You can adjust these to respond to different frequencies and believe me they DO respond. The bass is awesome without any tubbiness. Very tight low end. Mids are not super pronounced but they are sufficient for singing solos without any trace of the mid-spike honk that seems to haunt a lot of other speakers I've tried. Eminence seems to have found a perfect balance of low-mid-high projection with these, which really makes it easy to use your amp's EQ to dial in your preferences. Oh yeah, the 100+ SPL makes these louder than what you may be used to. They are up there with the JBL D 130s in terms of projection. The highs are not shrill at all. On the clean channel of the Peavey these speakers are clean and tight. They are sensitive to pick attack with a little cone breakup. They sustain well. You can hear the interaction of the strings with the fretboard, which I love. Using my Ibanez with the neck single coil I can hear that "Strat rattle" all the way down to an open E on single note runs. The Les Paul is fat with all you'd expect in terms of the Les Paul sound. Chords are crisp without any harshness using both guitars. Very articulate sounding speaker. These are perfect for 2 X 12 open back combo cleans like I play with the Ranger.
On the overdrive channel these speakers shine. They do not have a lot of cone breakup but because they are so articulate they deliver a very precise overdrive / distortion tone. If you love a lot of tight bottom end then you'll appreciate these. They are even more sensitive to the amp's EQ in the overdrive channel so you can really hear the difference that a small change in EQ makes. These are a dream to EQ for a precise tone signature. I can't comment on what they sound like when driven into a heavy metal sound since the Ranger doesn't go beyond a Van Halen type of distortion but for Eddy's tone they are perfect. Solos are really lively with nice harmonics. Not as much harmonic content as Vin 30s but the clarity of the Wizard at high distortion levels trumps the VIN 30 IMHO. Very articulate and sustain-y when driven hard. Lots of harmonic feedback but no unwanted feedback. Notes just slip into feedback/sustain like butter, with a nice curl at the end of the note. Killer!

16 ohm version. Put in a custom 2x12 cab.

Sound Quality : 8
I use it with a Les Paul w/ stock pickups, Fulltone Fulldrive, Orange AD30.<p>It's great on clean tones with the AD30. Nice crystal clear with just a hint of cone breakup.<p>I find it to be a little harsh when using dirty tones with the Orange and Les Paul combination. The Orange is a very midrangey amp to begin with, and coupled with the humbuckers on a Les Paul, I don't find the Wizard to be the right combination for me.<p>I liked the prospect that it was supposed to be a lot like the Celestion G12H (at a fraction of the price), but I think I'll go with the actual Celestions next time.<p>
I also used a JTM-45 in the same set up, and I found that combination much better with these speakers. They tightened up the JTM45's sometimes flabby bottom at louder volumes a bit, and the cone breakup was a good complement for the JTM45's tone.<p>
To sum up, if you're using a mellower/darker voiced amp, they sound great. This would include even a JCM800, in my opinion. But I don't recommend them for an amp that already has a very active high-mid and treble color in combination with dirty tones. There's just a peak somewhere there in the higher ranges of the cone breakup that doesn't complement my Orange. Bear in mind, I am very very picky.

Amazing to me, like the first reviewer I put it in a Peavey Classic 30 and got great results. I was afraid when I bought it that it might be to harsh on the high end since it is rated aggressive on top and the Classic 30 is known for being very bright on the highs.
It turned out not to be a problem and sounds great all the way up and down. Add to that, this thing is LOUD, I mean really LOUD, It seems that 2 is what four use to be. Some say it is suppose to be like a G12H, or rather what a G12H should be. For me this this is the ticket, but we all have our own personal taste. However, I don't think you should give products low marks in reviews just because it isn't what your looking for. Also keep in mind that with different amps you can get different results so you really have to read up before you buy a replacement speaker and even then you will have to bite the bullet and take a chance unless you get the opportunity to try different speakers with your amp.
The Wizzard is a great speaker, but I can't say if it will be great for you.

i use two all-mahogony S-73's with a DiMarzio Air Norton/Fred combo in one, and a GFS Fat PAF set in the other, through a Classic 30. i have used, besides the stock speaker, four other speakers with the Classic, and this one is my favorite. superb cleans, with a lot of character - from classic British blues/rock cleans, to almost country-ish because of the bright top and tight low-end snap. the overdrive is just monsterous - the low end is amazing, and it has an awesome bite to it. it's more versatile than i thought it would be, and has a great combination of articulation with a strong personality. oh yeah, and it's LOUD. 8^)
