The ENGL 4x12 standard i use sounds great to my taste.
lots of low end less mid and bright treble.
I use 2 of these cabs for 5 years now and, i'm always experimenting with sound and speakers.
So i can tell that the standard speakers sound great.
In my taste it's a better speaker for metal than rock.
I have compared the v 60 speakers with many other speakers like the eminence V 12 (very good speaker for rock and very tight), v30 ( also good for rock but not my taste) in a orange cab and marshall also, G12T-75 (to trebby for my taste), and some cabs that i used in a live situation.
The v 60 seem to be i litle bit slow in speaker motion compared to the other speakers i used.
And it has a litle less dB's compared to the other speakers.
Maby because it prodused more sub kind of low end and less mid.
So it can be a bit sloppy sounding in some situations.
I play rock and Deathmetal (low tunen at A).
Some people i know are using standard engl cabs also, and are very pleased with their sound.
They are playing metal also.
The standard Engl cab delivers me the ingredients that i need for this kind of music.
Especially low tuned metal.

The ENGL cab that I bought is the standard angled cab front loaded with Celestion V60 speakers. There are metal corner guards on all but the top two corners. I think this is because that's where the cab starts to angle and maybe ENGL haven't manufactured a part for that part of the cab, as the metal bracket would have to be bent in order to fit.

It's made from marine ply, remember this is what they make boats from. There are 2 lead inputs in the rear one that comes from the head and also the other can go to the second cab. It is a stereo cab so it can be used with 2 heads.

There is a extra strong steel mesh grille at the front of the cab guarding the speakers which is great for me as my children are always running into it.

It has removable caster wheels which I took off so it doesn't topple on my children and flatten the poor things. Without its wheels on, it's NOT going anywhere.

And man, does thing weigh like a solar system...It took myself and my neighbour Roger (thanks again Rog...) to lift it up 12 stairs and by the end we were dead and Roger's a big tall man.

Sound Quality : 10
I have to say, after reviewing the technical specs of V60s on the Celestion website, along with a lighter magnet (approx 25 Ozs) as opposed to the V30s which have 50 Ozs magnets, I thought they would sound weak. Also Celestion say it can be used for styles including blues, jazz to rock, so I was a bit apprehensive not seeing a speaker for METAL?.

I've never been more wrong in my life. Personally I'm not a V30 man, I find the tone is too refined and like brutality in my tone and I have to say, the V60s are just awesome. Legato (ever so flowing), sweep picking work and pinched harmonics howl like a wolf having its soul ripped out by a Carpathian Beast feeding off it's blood.

Crunch sounds are awesome and the chunk factor is just vile.

Sounds vicious indeed....but it also amplifies clean sounds very nicely too.

OK, I've said it once and I'll say it again....It's German folks and the standardised methodology adopted by German's in building something is the following:

1. It only comes in black/gun metal grey/black/dark black and darker black

2. After being exposed to 174 nuclear trident missiles it cannot have more than 1 scratch

3. It must weigh 7,605,489 mega tonnes

Get the picture...I strongly suggest you get into a band like Manowar or the Misfits where everyone is a bodybuilder cause that's what you need to carry this mother around.

Chris at ENGL is great try info@engldistribution.com or Peter at Synergy Distribution (UK importer) on peter@synergydistribution.co.uk
both are nice people to deal with.

For the money that I paid for it, due to the store going through a change of management and it was being sold at literally cost price it was a bargain. There were one or 2 marks on it and on the back there's a slight tear on the rear panel but nonetheless, totally worth it.

this speakercabinet have 2 inputs on 16 ohms.
It also can be swithed at 8 ohm with 1 input and a thru output.

Sound Quality : 10
A good cabinet with Celestion V-60 speakers in it.
The V-60 have a warm sound and lots of low.
This cabinet sounds better than any cabinet.
The cabinets with Celestion V-30 don't have that smoot low end like the V60 speakers.
This V-60 cabinet sounds better in tone, but it,s louder with vintage speakers in it.
I play Swedisch deathmetal fore 12 jears now.
I,m always experimenting with my guitar sound.
And i think this speakercabinet is the best from al the cabinets i'v play with.

It is a cabinet, so the features it has are very limited - it has four 12" Celestion V60s Speakers, it can handle 240 Watts mono or 2x120 Watts stereo and it is built extremely solid. It weighs about 55 kg, is covered with thick and stubborn fake leather and has four metal casters. Is there any 4x12" Cabinet that delivers more, or do you need more features from a cabinet? No! By the way, the speakers are protected by a solid metal grill and an extremely stylish chrom Engl logo sparkels from the front of it.

I'm playing a Jackson Soloist SL-1 with EMG Pickups (1xEMG 81, 2xEMG-SA) through a Hughes&Kettner Tube50 head and right into the Engl cabinet. No stop-boxes or effects that weaken your tone, just the pure amp-sound.

To describe the sound of the cabinet there is just one word: amazing! Before I bought this cabinet I played for about 6 years through a Mesa/Boogie 2x12" Road-Ready Cabinet (which I think is also a very good cabinet), but the Engl simply washes it away. It's evidently louder, tighter, fatter and the pressure of it makes you weak in the knees. I did not dare to think that my H&K head could ever sound this powerful and rich. The clean sounds are still good (equal to the Mesa-Cabinet) but the distortion sounds now really rule. No mud at all, precise reproduction of chords and riffs, icredibly tight in the bass range and even at very high volumes none of the shrill frequencies which annoyed me with my old Mesa cab. Don't get me wrong, the treble and presence frequencies sort of jump right into your face if you stand in front of it, but you nearly can't dial a sound that sound unpleasant and annoying.
I had the great luck to compare the cab with H&K head in the store to some other cabs on the market:

I tried the standard 1960-Marshall cab: muddy, kind of plastic-like sound, in parts kind of fuggy;

The Engl 4x12" Vintage cab: more mids, less treble, more expensive and a more vintage-like sound (how comes?!), the standard cab suited my taste more;

The Framus Dragon- and Cobra-cab: more mids, less bass, more vintage-like;

The Behringer-4x12" standard: no comparison at all, the Behringer is a toy, the Engl is something for adults;

A Brunetti 412 cab: also very thight and fat, but with a weaker construction and definitly more expensive, at no point destictively better than the Engl;

The 'King of all cabinets', the Mesa 4x12" Rectifier standard: no doubt the best cabinets around, tight, fat and with loads of pressure;
but: you can buy more than two Engl-412 standard for the price of the Rectifier cab and in direct comparison I could not find a thing, where the Mesa was that much better! The overall sound of the Engl cab is comes extremely close to the Recto cab, and with your eyes closed I'm not sure if I would have been able to hear a distinct difference. The engineers at Engl had definitely the Recto cab in mind as they constructed their cabinet, and they did a really good job in copying the 'king'!

To test its versatility I tried it as an extension for a Fender Twin and an old Vox AC30, and it was also able to produce these sounds as well as the high-gain sounds I use to play with my setup. So definitely full marks for sound!

Reliability : 10
Built extremely solid, way better than Marshall cabs. I will have no problems giggin with it without a backup! By the way, I'm really excited to perform my first gig with my new cab...

Never dealt with the guys at Engl

Overall Rating : 10
I play mostly Metal and Rock stuff and I can't think of a better cabinet for me. It suits my style perfectly and sounds simply awsome. Clean, crunch, low-gain, high-gain - no matter wich sound I dial on my amp, the sound comes out fantastic. I don't think that there is another cab around which is as versatile and better than this 55-kg-monster. As I said, the sound is comparable to a Mesa Rectifier cab with less than half its price. I finally found 'my' cabinet and I think there will never have to look around for another one. In the future I'm thinking about buying an Engl Powerball top - I tried the combination in the store and I nearly started crying when I heard the sound of the Powerball....I have no words to describe it. Who needs a Mesa Rectifier anymore?!? :-)
If you are able test this cab then have a go and you surely won't be disappointed!

4x12 mono/stereo cab
nothing very special, but nothing missing

Sound Quality : 10
i use it with a H&K triamp an ESP eclipse, and Epiphone LP Gothic
both with emg 81's. The sound is so damn tight, lots of bass and not muddy at all, the mutes with this cab will shake your balls.
Way better for metal, hardcore than any marshall.
But you have to take some time to find a good sound cause its a bit trebly
(not that the trebles of the engl are bad, but some soundguys can't handle them and you have to turn down the presence of your amp)

Reliability : 9
built like a tank and of course heavy as a tank (thats the reason for the lots of bass)
nothing thats not worth its weight

Customer Support : No Opinion
never had a problem

Overall Rating : 10
if it were stolen i would buy it again cause it's a damn good price for this cab

PS: it is also the best lookin cab i've ever seen

It's a 4x12 Cab, 2 inputs, mono or stereo. 8ohm in mono.
Wheels are awesome, they roll realy good, and clip out quick and easy, but never fall out. Seems stronger than the marshall cabs, and the metal grill wont get torn. cloth is fine if you play in your bedroom, or have road cases, but I can see myself tearing the, too easy. I give it an 8 coz if it were 16ohm mono I could run two of them with my head.

Sound Quality : 10
I use a Marshall TSL60 head, Gibson SG Voodoo, and no crappy pedals.
This box was the last thing I bought in my rig, and it's thighter than the half cab I was using with yamaha 12s in it. It sounds basier than the marshall cabs my mates have, and I have confidence that when I gig, I can crack it hard without blowing it up.

Reliability : 9
No problems yet, and I can't see what will ever go wrong. Wouldn't ever buy a marshall or Mesa cab after having this, and all of my mates want one. I'll get a straight cab when I upgrade my head.

Best cab on the market. But if you buy in Australia, the RRP is quite high, like A$1,800 so try to get one on sale.

I actually have two, the sraight one and the angled one.
setup: Dean european custom V with dimarzio evolution bridge PU through boss tu-2 and ibanez fl 303 to peavey 5150 head with BBE 862 sonic maximizer and ibanez GE215 equalizer in the effectsloop.
I run the 5150 at 4 ohms to the two cabinets, so it pumps all its 120 watts of tube power to the two ENGL's..... sounds awesome
sound awesome

well...... maybe I'll buy another pair someday, maybe vintage, maybe

Well a cab hasen't that many features, but it has all a decent cab sould have, plus the great looking metal grille en chrome ENGL logo, the wood is real heavy quality!!

50 KG's!!! I love it, but a bit heavy

Sound Quality : 10
Best I've heard, personally I like it better than the more warm sounding vintage cab.

But you get all the tonal goods delivered just the way they are supposed to be!

Better than a mesa cab!

Made in 2000
- 4 x 12 Celestion V 60 speakers
- 240 Watts
- 8 ohms mono, 2 x 16 ohms stereo
- dimensions: 75 x 75 x 36 cm, 50 kg_
- black leather coating (fake? not sure...looks pretty real)
- grey metal grill in front, chrome-like Engl logo
- casters (easily removable by just pushing in/pulling out, unlike
Marshall's that you have to wind out !!!).

I dont know if you can rate features which are pretty basic since this is a cabinet. This cabinet is great for amature weight-lifters (this thing is f***** heavy, 100 pounds). It's ok to lift up and place it somewhere else but carrying it around for a longer time sucks. thank god I'm not moving it around a lot.

Sound Quality : 10
I'm using an ESP Viper 300, ESP H-200 and a Gibson SG Special with DiMarzio Tone Zone's and EMG 81's and I play a Peavey Ultra Plus tube head. I play mainly metal and hardcore stuff.

I got sick of my Marshall cabinet and sold it. I was looking for a more dynamic cab. I heard that engl comes close to Mesa cabs and checked it out. I liked the sound and got it.

The Engl cab is definately louder than the Marshall. I used to play my amp on 5/volume gain Channel, 6/volume master channel and now I play on 5/Volume gain channel, 4/volume master channel and I get the same volume. The cab is brighter (more mids, more treble) in it's tone than the Marshall and less 'nasal' which I really like and it's more powerful too. It just punches you right into the face. I'd compare it to the Mesa Boogie Cabinet.

The tone doesn't seem to stay inside the cab like Marshall's tend to do. The Engl cab equipped with vintage speakers is even more powerful than the standard, also a bit more expensive but still a lot less expensive than a mesa.

Reliability : 10
This think looks very well built. It's made in Bavaria/Germany, BMW's are from there as well ;) so you bet it's quality stuff.

The front grill is pretty sturdy and looks like you can stand on that thing...that doesn't mean that I would. But it's sure strong enough to put a couple of guitar cases on there or some other equipment without having to worry that the speakers get damaged.

Unlike Marshall cabs this thing rolls so smoooooooooooth. Almost no noise at all. It doesnt rattle and shake like those. It's literarily gliding...maybe it has rubber wheels.

I think you can gig with this thing without having to rely on a back-up.

Customer Support : No Opinion
Haven't dealt with them yet but I heard they're pretty quick and friendly. But...I mean...take a look at this thing <a href="http://www.engl-amps.com">. Does it look like it can break easily?

Overall Rating : 10
If you don't like the classic Marshall sound and are looking for a cabinet that sounds modern and is powerfull enough to fulfill your needs...get this! Even though it has standard 60 watt Celestion's it's more powerfull than the marshall.
It comes very close to Mesa's soundwise and the quality is definately not worse...maybe even of higher quality.

And since it's almost a third of the price of a rectifier cabinet it beats that one by far. Thinking of that...even if I had the money I wouldnt by a rectifier cab...I'd rather spend the money on other equipment.

The only drawback is that this cab is sooo heavy. But you can't have it all, can you?

A motor wouldnt be too bad ;).

If this one got lost or stolen I'd get another one. But you'd know if you packed this thing into your car or not cuz you can always remember how hard it is to lift it up *G* and if it got stolen and I'd find the the guy who took it...I'd let it drop on him and see if he can catch it with tied hands.
People who steal other people's stuff are assholes. Decent equipment is expensive and almost everybody has to work hard to be able to afford it ...god, I wish I had an endorsement. So a big FUCK YOU to everyone who steals gear.
