this amp was Engl's first series of guitar amps. they made them from 1985-1987 this one made in 1987 i believe. it has a "preset write" so you can write your own presets. you can write up to (8) presets, plus the setting the amp is on. it is 100 watts with a 12" celestion g12-k
85 watt speaker. internal speaker is connected by a 1/4 jack on the back of the amp. (i disconnect the internal speaker and plug in a engl 4x12....kicks HUGE quantities of ass. it also has **TWO** other 1/4 speaker outputs as well. which kicks-ass cause your lucky if you
even get one on new amps. it has a FX loop and line out jack as well.
and a footswitch connection too.the amp runs on (3) 12ax7 tubes, and (4) 6L6 tubes. has internal fan to blow air past the power tubes. the fan can be turned off as long as it isn't on "standby" i just leave it on though. it get a *10* for features.

i use a ESP Horizon with a "hotrails" strat pickup in the neck, and a George Lynch "Screamin Demon" in the bridge. this amps makes hardly any noise at all. unless you are playing VERY loud with the Distortion cranked, you will get a quiet hum. but thats on every amp at those settings. when you want "clean" this amp delivers. the clean is pretty good too. really delivers a nice warm clean tone. the reverb on this amp is pretty sweet too. Engl should have named the reverb, "i'm playing in a HUGE-ass auditorium effect" cause thats what it sounds like. i don't use clean or reverb very often, i'm a "Rammstein" fanatic. so i always play with distortion.
the distortion is awesome as well. very dirty, or can be very "blues overdrive" as well. or pretty close to anything in bewteen. it sounds the best with a Boss ge-7 EQ in the FX loop though. i now have the perfect "live" Rammstein guitar sound. matches almost exact to the guitar on the "live aus berlin" album or dvd. kicks ass!

the amp was made in 1987. the guy i bought it from has never had any problems with it. nor have i. i don't currently have a band right now, but yeah, i would use it without a backup. Engl amps are all handmade. all connections hand soldered and hand assembled. Engl makes quality stuff. i just wish it featured a "auto bias" that would be nice. but i don't switch tube brands, so its not a big deal.

original owner never had any problems with it, nor have i. customer service is really good to. when i first got it i wanted to know all the specs on it, cause the original owner lost the manual. so i e-mailed the company. within 2 days i got a very kind response from Mr. Horst Lander, the head Engl amp designer. he was very helpfull. he told me all about the amps features, sent me a text copy of the manual and early pictures and adds of the development of the amp in 87. thats good customer service if i've ever heard of any. as far as a autherized service place, there is only 3 engl dealers in the U.S.
and their in New York. not easy for a Wisconsin resident like me to get too. but i havn't needed it anyways.

i've been a playing for about 2 years now. i used to be a bass player for about a year and 1/2 but bass got very boring old for me. so i switched to guitar. (WAY!! much more fun) if it were stolen, i'd kick the shit out of who ever stole it. casue i'd never find another one again. they are very very rare. plus it kicks ass and love it.
i've played other guitar amps, like line 6 and mesa, and peavey, etc.
i absolutly *DO NOT* like marshall amps. i decided on my Engl. i will stay with Engl untill they stop making good amps. (when hell freezes over)i'm currently saving towards a Engl savage 120 head. anyone wanna sell me their used one?????? the amp is made out of finished Mohagany or cherry wood or something. it was also availible in black tolex and white tolex at the time. but i really like the wood. a very beautiful looking, and sounding amp. if you wanna see pics of it, just e-mail me for them!!!
