I'm playing my Taylor 814ce through it and it sounds great, nice clean tone. I've used it with my Strat that has Texas Specials in it along with my POD2.0 and I was surprised at the quality on tone.

I have owned the 220 for about 6 years now and have to say it has proven itself to be a great amp...... I play an acoustic electric as well as a Gibson SG and Fender Strat through it .......

Sound Quality : 10
As indicated above I use mutiple guitars through this amp and it has enough features to accomodate Blues, Jazz, and Vintage rock sounds...........This is not a metal amp as it holds it's true clean sound through most of the volume range,,,,,,,,,,breaking only at the higher levels to a smooth sustain with natural harmonic distortion.........Love this REAL sound without pedals..........

Reliability : 10
I have not had any problems with this amp at all..............Epiphone has built this amp solid........

Customer Support : 10
I have not needed service..........but have talked to the dealer I purchased this amp from and they say Gibson/Epiphone are a great customer service oriented company...........

Overall Rating : 10
I have been playing since '64.......... I priced and listened to other acoustic amps before I purchased this amp years ago and since have found this Epi to be more versatile . reliable, and rock solid than my other(names omitted) amps..The Stereo Chorus is excellent, the Reverb is great and this amp produces no background noise as indicated in another post...............If lost or stolen I would want another.............I run this amp with a 4X12 cabinet below it and it just sings............

I bought the amp new at the end of October '98. The amp is for acoustic guitars (piezo and/or mic, not magnetic pickups) and contains 2-5" and 1-8" speakers in a closed back cabinet. It comes with stereo chorus and reverb as well as a guitar input jack and a mic jack. It also has an external speaker jack, 2 preamp outputs, and a EXF loop. The amp has 2-20 watt amps tuned for acoustic intstruments. The cabinet is a little weird looking in that it as about 15 inches tall and 3 feet long. It looks OK, though, in it's cream tolex covering. The plastic jacks are secured with plastic nuts which is kind of cheap.

The sounds of this amp were overpowered by a 30db background whooshing sound - even with no instruments plugged and and all controls set to zero! That's why I returned it. Engage the chrous circuit and the whoosing changed to a swooshing sound with nothing plugged in.
Too bad, too, since the chorus circuit was EXCELLENT! It made my 6 string sound like a 12 string easily. The reverb was nicely understated, not overpowering as you might found on a Fender. Still even with the reverb all the way up, the Epi lacked that large hall sound - the reverb was a little too understated for my tastes.
Ignoring the background sound - which you can not - the amp would have gotten a "7" for sound.
You might wonder why I did not catch this whooshing problem at the store. bear in mind, you';ve got others playing guitars and drums, etc. You can't catch problems like this until you are at ahome in your practice room with your 4 track recorder and then you hear it.

See above. Brand new amp and it sounds like that? Even with Epi's 5 year warranty, I would not expect the amp to hold up.

Customer Support : 10
I emailed Gibson over the weekend and they emailed me back saying that the whooshing sound was not correct and that the amp needed to be serviced. I just took the thing back since I had just bought it that day.
The music store took it back no problem the next day. I just hope they don't try to sell it to someone else; it is a lemon. Maybe another Epi Regent 220 would have worked better, but I am not ready to find out. Epi is off my list for amplifiers.

Overall Rating : 1
I've been playing long enough to know crap when I hear it and with this Epi amp, I heard it.
Steer clear of Epi acoustic guitar amps, at least the Regent 220.
