Made in the mid 60s. Volume, tremolo frequency, on/off. This is the version that uses 6AQ5 power tubes and tube rectifier. 6EU7 preamps. Only thing I wish it had is a tone control at least. This is the brightest amp I've ever heard.

Sound Quality : 9
I'm using it with a Japanese 50s reissue Fender Stratocaster hardtail, Dillion Mosrite Ventures copy, Dillion Les Paul Goldtop copy with P-90s, & a Cortez ES-175 copy. It suits traditional country & rockabilly perfectly. It would do for surf with an external reverb unit. I use it also for jazz though some would find it too bright. This amp is pure Buck Owens & Deraliers. Turning the volume control between half and three quarters causes it to over drive nicely. Over that and it gets a little harsh. Probably does this since it's power tubes are well used. As I said earlier, very bright. The tremolo is very nice, although there's no intensity control. The trem's pure early 60s surf/country.

Reliability : 8
When I bought it the caps were shot. Just turning it on briefly to check it out was enough to ruin the voice coil on the original CTS speaker with the power supply hum. After changing all of the electrolytic caps, replacing the frozen tremolo freq pot/switch replacing the speaker with a NOS Utah it runs great. Normally I would trust it without a back up except for the fact that it uses 6EU7 preamp tubes which are fairly expensive(from everywhere I've found).

Never have dealt with the company, never will. I do my own repair work. They'd probably laugh you off the phone anyway for trying to get tech support on an amp approaching 40 years.

Overall Rating : 10
Been playing for 4 1/2 to 5 yrs. I've got the instruments listed above plus a pair of Fender Coronados(6 & 12 strings), an Epiphone EA-32RVT Comet amp, a Magnatone MP-3 amp. If it were lost or stolen I would try to find another one. I got this amp because it was only $10. I figured it'd be a good easy fix to resell. A good easy fix it was, but it did not quite make it to be resold because it's tone suited me too well. These are great little amps to practice or record with. Old Epihone & Gibson amps are truly some of the best vintage bargains available now. If Fender made these, they'd probably be selling in NM condition for $700. What's in a name? Just the name & the price.

I have a schematic for this amp, if anyone is interested email me at Rweaver828@AOL and I'll email it to you. By the way Epi did respond to my inquiry about this amp. They are the ones that sent me the diagram.

simple. vol. and tone. two knobs for tremolo.

Sound Quality : 7
sounds small but of course it is a single 10" speaker with about 15 watts of power so what do you expect. it does sound cool with my esquire or my tokai strat. it just seems like it sounds the way a nice old tube amp is supposed to sound. when i take it to church and mike it the sound is clear, full, and fenderisn.

Reliability : 7
don't know yet. only had it for two weeks. however, the fact that it looks like the origianl tubes are in it tells me that it has some stamina.

playing for 30 years. it sounds great for a cheap amp. acutally, i am thinking of running it through my V-4 cabinet to see just what she will do. i'll bet it sounds very good as it does through the small sunn speaker that has been put in it.

Although it doesn't have much along the lines of controls and features I simply fell in love with it's simplicity.

Sound Quality : 8
I'm using a Mexican Fender Strat through the amp and it sounds good. Really captures that surfer/60's feel as a good tube amp should. Only problem I have with it is that there is a slight buzz caused when the tubes start to come out of their bases slighty from movement. But its corrected if you stick them back in. Nice retro fuzz if you crank the volume up on both your amp and guitar then turn up the bass and treble all the way. Very trebley would describe the sound out of it at best though.

Reliability : 10
Very reliable, I've had it for about 2 1/2 years now and still haven't killed the tubes after hours of playing and cranking up the volume. The Tremelo is also very good since it is the true version which we grew up listioning to on the radio.

Customer Support : No Opinion
Yeah and I'm going to call up Epiphone now to ask for service on a 38yr old amp?!?!?

Overall Rating : 10
If you like a good trebley amp which SHOULDN'T crap out on you if you take care of it then I would suggest you get this one. Personally I think it would go great boosting the trebles on a more bassy amp like a Marshell through using a splitter box.

Hmm.. a Volume knob. no hiding here folks.. guess ya gotta want to PLAY MUSIC. some times, simple is best. you cant stop and fiddel with the settings much.. just turn it up for a grittier tone.. or turn it down for a cleaner tone. I LIKE IT,.

Sound Quality : 10
Well,.., all i got to say is THIS THING RULES !!!!!!! I bought it for $135.00 US and plugged a "R" Series Steinberger (EMG's) through it.. WOW what a blast.. 6 hrs. strait, I just coulden't stop. the guy before me up graded the speaker with a baffel board and a 12" alnico speaker out of an old silvertone. and that is the secret! a bigger speaker. I have played alot of tube amps and this one is JUST RIGHT>> Great tone. not to loud. in fact if you have one and want to sell it.. EMAIL ME quixoute@aol.com

Reliability : 7
haven't had it long.. but - i took it apart.. to install a new AC cord.. and speaker wire.. and there isent much there. its probably very reliable././ My pop invented SUNN amps.. so i know a little bit bout this stuff, and from what i can tell. its build fair. to good.

are they still in KALAMAZOO ???

Overall Rating : 10
I have played for about, 17 years. had a ton of junk. roland GM70 GR303, GR707, midi modules galore, atari's, PC's, Roland R-8, korg A-1, Triple delays.. SPX 90-II's, mixers, Aleses, Lexicon, On & on & on.... got ripped of for a most of my stuff, and it made me Play the simple stuff. ( i got lucky i guess ) i had been playing a 63 Fender Priceton. but this SMOKES IT. it has a more appealing tone. THE 12" alnico SPEAKER is the trick.

It's around a '62 or so. It's got two knobs...one is the on/off knob...and the other is the volume. No tone, no tremolo, no nuthin! It's about 15 watts of all tube power, which means it's just a little louder than the neighbors at the apt will put up with...I should explain. The speaker in it was shot. So I wired in a jack and plugged it into my 4x12! It sounds incredible thru a bigger cab..the open back 10 inch it's equipped with is pale in comparison. So, thru a properly working 10 incher, it's definitely apartment volume. Not band volume. I gave it a 9 for features..cuz, as every person who has discovered vintage tube amps...they know that the fewer the bells and whistles, the better.

Sound Quality : 9
I use my 97 Les Paul Standard and my 88 ES-335. I like good fat vintage tone, no single coils, no bolt ons. When using it with bigger speaker cabs, it gets good blues breakup around volume 7-10. It sounds like crap below 5. Concerning noise, it's normal...a little bit'o'buzz, but it's almost 40 yrs old and probably needs a new cap ...yes, only one. Inside, it is almost empty, very simple wiring. Not much variety in tone, just classic tube tone.

Reliability : No Opinion
I have only had it for 2 months, but it seems quite reliable. Less complexity, less to go wrong. It would only cost around 30 bucks to retube the whole thing, and that would only leave the transformers...IF it were to break.

Customer Support : 7
There's not much reason to comment in this section. All tube amps are fixable, even if you have to gut them completely. It's almost 40, I doubt any of the people working at epiphone or gibson now were working there back then. Oh..and it does say "Kalamazoo Michigan" on the back, so it's before epiphone went overseas.

Overall Rating : 10
I've been playing 7 years or so. I am striving to have all my equipment older than me...I have a 67 bassman, a '70 Orange 120 (loud as all get-out) and that's mostly it. I bought it so I could have a low wattage tube amp to practice on and still get good tone, becaseu good tone does not come out of any mass-production overdrive pedal. So, it's done the trick for me. I love it cuz it's old, I love it cuz it's simple and sounds good. You can't go wrong with tube amps that have no gain knob.

Few features. Shows where priorities were in the sixties! Get this-- one volume, and no tone controls or 'verb of any kind-- But it has a Tremelo!!(Speed control only, though, no intensity). I wish this thing had a reverb, and possibly at least bass & Treble controls. Lack of features, though, is part of this amp's charm & essential simplicity; it was not designed to be a Bogner. I use it as a practice amp with my band and it doesn't quite have enough power to cut it. All tube, and the thing looks as new now as it did when it rolled of the US GIbson assembly line 30-some odd years ago.

Sound Quality : 8
It sounds great as a recording or low-volume practice amp. I use it quite often in a Big-Band setting with a Guild box, and it sounds great. Not enough power for my funk/fusion band, though. Crank this baby, though, and kick on the tape machine for some useful distortion sounds. Clean until about 7.

Reliability : 7
2nd input jack broken when I Bought it, and when the store fixed it (For Free), they found a resistor that needed replacing. Has worked great ever since, and still looks brand new!!

Customer Support : No Opinion
Don't think this applies with this old thing.

Overall Rating : 8
I Doubt I would be able to easily replace this thing with an identical amp if lost or stolen, but I would buy another, I guess, if the situation arose. There are no real "Magic Qualities" that would make me cry if I lost the amp (Except being out 200 clams). I compared it with an old tweed Supro, which clearly sounded cooler, but there was not a clean sound built into the Supro. I Felt that as a jazzer, the Epi would be more useful, and resisted the temptation of the "Ultimate Blues Tone" and opted for practicality. Y'know, the thing doesn't have many features, but that doesn't really make me love it any less. This baby looks quite smooth in gray tolex and just screams "Vintage." A friend said it looked like a space heater.

This is a very sweet sounding amp, it is vintage 60's tube amp that i got at a garage sale for 5$. I put some original motorola and zenith tubes in there and it sounds so sweete with chorus goin through it. definately worth it. Also another major spice up that helped it was i put a 10 inch celestion speaker in their and now it kicks ass. the only thing i dont like is that it just has a volume control. but for 5$ bucks??

Reliability : 9
the only problem was the transformer was loose so it buzzed. and it goes througha set of preamp tubes every two years.

Customer Support : 1
yeah right like epiphone would take time out to talk to you for a 30 year old amp.

Overall Rating : 8
I loved the smooth sweet biting tone it had but i dint like hte one knob deal.
