I was looking for a tube Amp that would give me the performance of
a 50's Fender Champ that was locked in a time capsule. After checking out all the boutique Amps I found the Carr Mercury with the variable switch which drops down to as low as a 1/8 amp very nice amp for about two Grand!! So I headed out to Radio shack to build my own
Class A single ended low watt, guess what no dice. So the guy told me about www.Amptone.com we checked it out right there in the store, and
Found Fab Amp. and saw just what I was looking for,for $250.00 So i'm figuring what's the catch? So I gave the Owner and master builder Rob Franklin a call,And even though he was backed up with orders he sent me one out the next day!

Sound Quality : 10
I play Tele's thats it. My giging axe is an early Cunetto nocaster so I wanted something that would overdrive at a low volume when I hit it, but clean with a light touch, and I wanted it so sweet that I
didn't need Reverb. Rob sent me out a dark red tweed with a Volume knob and a high/low switch the same size as vintage champ. Now the low setting gives you a true Muddy Waters blues tone that is hard to explain it's just so right that it's scary. The high setting is for that British Vox/Marshall sound, that if you pull out your old Cream albums You would think Clapton was playing through your amp.

Reliability : 10
The Amp is a rock, i've been playing it non stop and it just keeps sounding better. I use it for solo blues gigs in cafes, No back up.
I would just plug into the PA if any problem occured.

This is a one on one deal Though he has a staff you get to talk to the man himself. What better than that, I tried one time to get a replacement decal on one of my fender relics through the store that I purchased it at. He got Fender on the phone and told them that it wasn't put on correct and peeled off. the customer support made him feel like he was trying to get a free guitar! He turned to me and said 'sorry can't do it". So dealing with Rob was a pleasure.
Warranty is 90 days on tubes 2 years parts and labor

Overall Rating : 10
I've been playing over 30 years and owned tons of amps and guitars over the years but now I just play Tele's.
If it was stolen, I would order one next day in fact I am ordering another one just for the hell of it. Your talking about an Amp that sounds better than a vintage $1500 50's Fender Champ for the price of getting your driveway plowed, Got to love it!
