Everyone knows about the features...
2 channels... one with and one without reverb and vib. You can however patch the two and get use of both eq's. Just gives you another option.
Reverb is the best I've ever used.

My main guitars are... strat... lespaul and SG.
All have different tones obviously but they all perform great through this amp.
For recording we crank her up to 10 and the break up is phenomenal especially with the gibsons. It's LOUD! VERY LOUD.. a hotplate could be very useful for small venues. I just use my Deluxe reverb for those gigs.. the Twin reverb is really only good for Large Gigs.
The clean is the best ever! ever! ever! No pedal can duplicate the warm break up that this amp gives when pushed past 8 on the volume.

I bought the amp used from Jim and Jon Mouridian. The reverb didn't work. They soldered the lead back on right infront of me and whola! reverb works. Other than that... I've had no problems with it. Only gigged with it once and it performed wonderfully!

After reading some of the other reviews and deciding that most were too biased one way or the other, I thought I'd throw my two cents in. We're all aware of the features: 2 channels, 2 inputs each, one channel normal, the other with reverb and tremelo. Don't use the normal channel, it's just plain stupid. You don't by a Twin Reverb and then skip out on the reverb. Overall so long as you know what you're buying it for, the features handle themselves quite well.

Here's the problem. I play a Gibson SG, and a Gibson Les Paul. I owned this amp for 8 months and played probably 25 gigs with it, and just didn't love the tone I was getting. I imagine the amp would be much better suited to handle single coil pickups (i.e. Strats), but it really doesn't handle the low end well with humbuckers. This also probably contributed to why I couldn't be happy with any of the pedals I ran through it (even the legendary TS808). Despite all this, it was still ok overall. Also remember, the reverb and tremelo were immaculate, and I would never argue that. Oh yeah, and the amp is loud enough to topple mountains.

I bought the amp with bad tubes, so they immediately blew the fuse and did a bit of internal damage, but the overall fix was pretty cheap still (less than 100). Once I replaced the tubes, I never had any problems.

Look, I love the tone you get from Fender amps, and I even love the sound you get from Fender guitars. However, I feel like a monkey unless I'm playing Gibsons, and if you play Gibsons like me, this amp is probably not for you. Marshalls obviously make some great ones, another option is the '59 Bassman Reissue (same price as the Twin Reverb). I play a Bassman now, and it's pretty much the cat's pajamas. Unbelievable basic and beautiful tone, from which you can customize your own musical attack with the Bassman. With the Twin Reverb, you really have to love it for what it does.

Lush reverb. Trem is great but pops when engaged. Eqs are very responsive. PLENTY of power. Points off for popping tremolo. I hate that. Here's the cool thing. I traded it straight up for a drri my neighbor across the street had. I miss that amp but I couldn't pass that deal up.
If heavy is a feature then points off. This beast is a back breaker! Almost forgot...kick back legs are a definate bonus.

I typically use this amp when we play festivals or open for national acts. I use it for pedal steel, mandolin and guitar. Sound guys love it because they only have to fool with one mix. These gigs aren't real frequent so I've allowed it to be a one trick pony. However last night I decided to take it to the gig and now I remember what I've liked about these since I was a kid. Sweet uncomplicated clean tone.
Playing a modded seventies strat I was able to get country, jazz, blues, funk and rock with ease. Our band plays all of these music styles in our sets. With the amp set at 5 I had plenty of headroom. For the heavy stuff I used a analog man modded ts-909. That tone was beyond my expectations. I also play through a ce-2 silver screw chorus and it equally suprised me so I guess what I'm saying imho it takes pedals very very well.

I'm going to leave this one alone for now. I had some bizzaro out of phase sounding plane going down on the first channel at the last festival we played. It hasn't replicated itself since.

I've been playing for 44 years. I like what the one guy said that it really doesn't matter. There are guys out there that are three times better than I am that are 20 years younger.
Bottom line is there is a reason these amps have been around for so long. Aside from the weight there's hardly a reason why you wouldn't want to gig with this. Pedal friendly, sweet tone, versatile and powerful.

Made in 2001-2002, Two channels, Mine has one original Jensen and one Cannabis Rex. Original tubes until I can afford a JJ retube, and maybe a MM OT. Clean for days, use pedals for everything else, the reverb is the best there is.

I use strats mostly with noiseless style pickups (dimarzio and fender). I play classic rock, blues and jazz this amp suits every one very well. The clean sound is the best I have ever heard from any amp, just glassy and very organic. Doesn't color your sound at all, it just sounds like your guitar! I could see how someone might mistake that as sterile. This thing is a pedal machine, I use an ABY to switch between the two channels and every pedal I own sounds crazy awesome through this amp. My personal favorite is Strat>DynaComp>Fulldrive 2>Big Muff>Carbon Copy>Amp(normal channel, no bright), David Gilmour for days. I love the sound of this amp, I would be very surprised if someone could find a better clean sound in this particular configuration.

This is where I have issues, I opened the amp up to check everything out. The Illinois Capacitor power supply filter capacitors have started to leak, The amp was probably used pretty heavily before I got it, but cap leaking? I will replace the caps with F&T caps (should be around $40). Several other small things, the speaker out jack needs to be re-crimped or cleaned it is introducing noticeable static, the indicator lamp terminals need to be re-crimped as well, the contacts seem to be bent or something. Other than that the construction seems to be okay, it wont last through much abuse as many of the components seem to be fragile by nature.

I have been playing for 8 years now, This is currently the only amp I own. I have owned a Blues Junior a Hot Rod deluxe and other SS Fender Amps, this one is the best. I would like to say that if it was stolen I would replace it, but there is so much I haven't tried in the way of amplifiers I would probably try a Rivera or a Dr. Z. I can't imagine how much better a clean sound can get. This amp REQUIRES casters and should have come with them, I built a dolly for it, but without them this thing is impossible to take around because it weighs so damn much.

42 years playing. Have owned or played everything, including older twins, blackface supers, boogie, marshall, flextone(ugh! temporary insanity), victoria, deluxes, bandmasters, the list goes on and on and on... Well, I never thought I would say this, but these reissue twins with the red speakers are great. I had been playing supers and deluxes(originals) and an old twin or three, and I didnt realize what i was missing. The headroom the amp has allows you to pick and have your notes clear and articulated, no more notes running into each other because the amp is distorting too much or compressing too much. I played with it the same day i got it, and it was fantastic chording and playing single note lines and digging into the notes etc and etc. I sold my 68 super and marshall dsl and my deluxe and my deville (another mistake) and my old twin because they did not compare with this amp. I even have a friend with a 66 and i can honestly say i would not consider trading. If youre a guy that likes to pick every note, this baby is it. Use your compressor pedal and distortion pedal to dial in the authentic old Fender sound. Wow. should have done this a long time ago. ps also tried 2 other new ones and they sounded great also. very consistent. take my word for it.

Sound good, but there's many different 65 reissue, and it isn't like the original, some have circuit print, so it isn't not like a hand-wired at all, but sound good anyway, different from the original.
This is a clean amp, but when at 4 or 5 you get some saturation. In my case, I always put the volume at 10, it sounds better like that, but like every amps. This amp is versatile in some ways, you can plug four guitars in same time, and like I said, you can have a clean tone or a saturate tone, very blues or jazzy.

The cones of the speakers are **** horse. Mine have broke many times. So I have to stick with silicon glue, but it's better to change the cones or the speakers. The Jensen aren't the same quality like the original, today they are made in Italia. At high volume, the cones just broke, the quality of fabrication is just a dummy ****.
Fender is a capitalist company, specially today. You can have the original at the same price of the ******** reissue. The reissue sucks ! Just printed circuits with crappy cones speakers who are made in Italia. This amp is too expensive. It's better to buy a original blackface or silverface, and they are not expensive, in general less expensive. *******g a !

Now I play a 64 showman blackface with 2 15 pcs. from a bassman silverface cab and I paid less than the ******* 65 reissue.
It's cool if his not your amp, and if you put the volume at 3 maximum. It's a good amp with another speakers like the original Jensen or the JBL 130d-f or the Utah or the Eminence vintage.

This is supposed to be a clean amp and I have personally seen it go to 10 and present VERY little breakup (except with the relationships with my neighbors). You can not use this amplifier to create music with distortion. The clean sound is a very solid but sterile, like a hospital. None of the many pedals I used could make this amp give me a lifelike distortion tone, and the clean tone cut through any modulation or filter pedals I put in front of it. The clean isn't too high or annoying, it just has a cheesy quality that I can't really put my finger on.

This amp is well built. I blew out a tube using a THD Hotplate and a Seymour-Duncan Twin Tube Classic. The inside was charred and blacked, but Fender offers its schematics online and I live close to Mouser Electronics so fixing it was a breeze. Until you do what I did or physically abuse this amp, it should hold up. It's no Sunn, though.

I own quite a few guitars (mainly Fenders and Gibsons).
My main axes are a supermodified Eric Clapton Strat (Floyd Rose and bridge SD Hot Rails) and a 1981 Les Paul Custom
This amp suits ANY style, using the right stompboxes o rackmount Fxs.
I use an Ibanez TS9 or a UE400 rack unit, and I've always got the lead sound I had in mind.
I take for granted Fender Clean.

Own a lot of gear (both tube and SS amps, lots of guitars, keys etc) and a small but well equipped recording studio.
Have toured Europe (7 times) and the U.S. (only once, but THE WHOLE THING!!).
I would like to get another 65 Twin RI for stereo, but nowadays it's hard to get gigs which might make it worthwile carrying that much equipement.
By the way, this is the perfect amp for my needs.
Or maybe a vintage one would make it.......
OK, let's say TWO vintage ones!!!!!!

I have no clue as to when this amp was made. Serial# is "AC018686. (if anyone can tell me it would be greatly appreciated) The thing is in cherry shape and sounds fabulous. It sounds exactly as I remember a "Twin Reverb" sounding. Doesn't have the creamy type of distortion but it does distort. When it distorts is another issue. In the proper venue it would be perfect. Regarding features, it's typical. 2 independent channels. I don't have to get into it. Everyone knows. (I think) Were talking about the '65 Twin Reverb Reissue.

I'm playing through some Les Pauls. Mostly middle and neck positions on the pickups. This amp is perfect for what I like to hear. You have little to none in terms of noise while plugged in. I think it's because the amp is so ballsy it is never ever turned up very high. This amp can make virtually any sound you want. It's just a matter of knowing what/which stomp or effects pedal you need but for this review, I'm only speaking about the amp. How brutal is the distortion? It's about as brutal as anyone can take given the thing has to be dimed for that to happen. That said, a good attenuator might be the answer. Personally, I choose to have amps of all sizes and a "G-DEC" thrown in for good measure.

I haven't had it long enough to be a judge on it's reliability. I know that it's a dependable amp because I've seen many a musician use it on one nighters with no "real" backup. I'd never use a "vintage" model. Contrary to what many people claim, most of the original amps are crap. Let's say you found a "cherry" Deluxe Reverb. You have to remember that all the components that little thing are over forty years old. Chances are it has been serviced, recapped, or had it's tubes changed once or twice. Again, chances are not. In either case, the first scenario suggests that it is no longer "vintage"or original. The second scenario tells me that if I A/B'd the original amp against a newer reissue there'd be no comparison.

Right now I have less "gear" because I'm no longer gigging but since you asked; Les Paul Custom, Les Paul Artisan, '58 Epiphone FT-79 "Texan", Martin D-18P, old Epiphone "F" hole archtop, "EriCustom" mini, Guild D35S. The amplifiers I are; "Rockman" 5 watt "Fender", Fender G-DEC 15 watt, Fender Deluxe Reverb Reissue, Fender Twin Reverb Reissue and more misc. stuff.

Well to start i am a lefty so finding great quality guitars is hard for me.But cause o lack of options i play mostly american strats and teles.I play alot of country and jazz. this thing sounds great. It handles pedals really well. Its dinamics are awesome it picks up the tiniest soft note and really gets the dinamics of the loud notes. The reverb is great. The tremlo does not go as slow as i would like it but i really don'r use it that much anyway.I had a twin reverb many years ago. but my tastes in gears changed. now i am back to fender amp. you have to think most amp manifactures.Amp designs are copied off of mostly fender twins. why buy a copycat marshall when you can have the real thing

This beat is clean... clean, clean, clean !!! but not JV-120 clean... rich, harmonic ful clean sound !!! it offer the opportunity to any player to have the cleanest of clean sound. the vibrato and reverb are awesome but if you want any king of grind you'll have to push it to 10 with a high output pick witch give you a great studio tone but has i mostly play bars and small venue is an issue so, i use a tonebone hot british for my distortion settings this pedel is not cheap but i have the feeling it was made for getting a marshall distortion out of this amp. for me it's not only a question of tone but also a pratical matther, giging with my marshall head and 4x12 just got me pissed !!! so a pedal and a combo does the job. it's sound like it should sound and it's worth the cash, but don't expect a high gain distortion out of this you'll never get it. some people mentionned handmade, point to point amps, well i own a 18watt ceriatone and it's not the same people should'nt compare handmade with factory... you don't bring your handmade to a crass bar in new jersey and you don't play 18 gigs in 20 nights with a point to point amp. the great news with the twin for travelling players is that no matther were you are there will be someone able to fix it if it brake within 20 clics. i give it a 8 it's great but it's not perfect !!!

I'm mystified the previous poster would give this amp straight '1's. I bought an '08 model and have had it for about 3 months now. I'm giving it straight '10's.
In any event here is my review. The features are straightforward. 2 channels with volume and tone and reverb/vibrato. This is a working musician's 'go to' amplifier. The basic idea is a clean powerful platform and then allow the player to put whatever pedals they wish.
I use this amp once a week at a local 100+ seat club. The volume is at 4.5 and I cut through the mix with no issues whatsoever. If this amp is not powerful enough (85 watts) for anybody then I wonder...
My style is all over the map. Country Twang. Rock. Blues. Alternative. Music is music.

I have about 15 guitars. However the preferred combo with the Twin is a basic AmStd Telecaster. They seem made for each other. My style is all over the place from Country to Rock to Blues to Jazz. It suits every style perfectly.
The amp is essentially silent until you hit a string. Then the sound is pure and strong and honest. The variety of sound doesn't and shouldn't come from the amp. It comes from your fingers. The amp is just a box to deliver it honestly. The Twin certainly does that.
There is no distortion. The amp is designed to stay clean. The pedals give you whatever drive you wish. I have a pedalboard but try to be minimalist with effects. Mine has 2 Fulltones (Fulldrive II Mofset for clean boost and OCD for grit), a Boss DD-6 and a DejaVibe and that's about it. As you turn up the amp the pedals tend to dominate so I keep the effects levels low.

I've been playing for more than 35 years. I own enough gear to start my own Guitar Center Outlet.
My electric guitar lineup includes about 3 Teles, a Strat, 2 Les Pauls, Rickenbacker and a Gretsch. There are others in the back of the closet or under the bed somewhere that I've forgotten about.
I have several other Fender amps including Blues Deluxe, Vibrolux, Bassman, Deluxe Reverb. I also have non Fenders items such as Peavey, Marshall and Ampeg.
I bought the Twin because it had exactly what I was looking for--clean power. I used to be more of a distortion/effects/phaser etc kind of guy. But as I get older I have gotten back to basics. I just want a nice thick tone that I can tweak just a little here and there. Also I don't want to be fighting to be heard when I'm on stage with a drummer really hitting it and a bass player with a 400 watt rig. The Twin is like bringing a 45 Magnum to knife fight. You're confident.

Folks, this is a great amp. Don't be misled by rantings from the person below. I bought the amp new this year, but I don't know if that is when it was made. I play a variety of music, much like most of you. I wanted a clean sounding amp and this one delivers. Channel switching is not important to me, but headroom is.

I use an American Tele through a Boss ME20 for a little distortion and echo. This amp to my ears has the same spongy sound of earlier twins, but every twin is different. I suspect, once the amp is broken in it will sound different again. I can't adequately describe the richness of this amp. For jazz it is superb. My neck pickup almost makes my tele sound like a hollowbody. It is also dead quiet. Any noise comes from my pedal board, and that ain't much. The reverb is typical Fender. Don't know if I'll have much use for the vibrato though, but I guess it may come in handy on something.

I haven't gigged too much yet with the amp. But with a 5 year warranty I'm not worried at all. While it is built like a bloody tank it is fragile in some areas, most notably with PCB construction and lack of sturdy tube protection. So one has to be careful how one handles it.

I was almost ready to pack it in re playing in bands - been at this for 35 years or so. Was invited to play again so I needed equipment. I never had a twin before but have had plenty of other amps, including 4 other Fender models. I have a couple of Asian acoustics lying around, but I'm down to what I need. I choose the twin primarily for the clean headroom. Plus I got a deal on the amp as well thanks to the American dollar a bit in the toilet these days. One thing I would like to say is that most folks ***** about the weight. Well, that's really a minor thing to complain about. You know how heavy it is when you pack it from the store to the car. I'd lug to gigs if it were 100 pounds just for the tone.

This review is for the MORON who had the nerve to say that this amp is crap crap. You know who IAM talking about.I am sure you are not a good player to make a STUPID comment like that. This is the BEST AMP in the world. All you need do is get the correct pedals and your there. This amp handles pedals very well. The clean is the best there is.If you need more headroom just get a booster pedal.I have been playing for 39 years.I can play METAL,ROCK,JAZZ,FUNK,SALSA,FUSION and even that wacked out stuff you dare call rock!!THE brillance of music is gone.I play STRATS all rigged and PRS guitars.I have played with really GOOD session players so I KNOW WHAT Iam TALKING ABOUT!

When you buy this amp remember that this amp is made for playing clean and dirty with pedals.Would I buy this amp again if stolen? YES.I own FIVE of them.I own several amps. Marshalls, BOGNER,FENDERS,SOLDANOS,does this tell you anything? The one I use the most is the 65 TWIN REISSUE!I own tons of pedals!I have used this amp on many recordings. So if you are a real PLAYER and can play almost any style of music then go for it.

This amp was purchased in early 1997. I mainly use it at home, but I take it out occassionally for band reunions, jams, etc. I haven't gigged in a long, long time. This is the definitive Fender tube amp. It has way more than enough power for my needs - I might have been better off with a Deluxe Reverb.

The sound is great. I find the Normal channel slightly warmer than the Vibrato channel for some reason. The vibrato itself is my main dissappointment with this amp. The modulation waveform is not a smooth sinewave but has a slight flattening on one end. I can definely hear the effect of this. Consequently I don't use the Vibrato effect as much as I otherwise might. I was spoiled by the Vibrato on my Princeton Reverb, which was very smooth. I was always amazed that Leo allowed this shortcoming to remain in the Twin's design. I can get most of the clean sounds I want out of the amp when used with my Tele and Strats. Oddly enough, I have been having trouble dialing in a good tone from the amp with the jazz guitar I just bought.

There was a problem with the amp that showed up within the first month. Turned out to be a cold solder joint. Other than that it has been problem freem since 1997.

I've been playing for 40 years. I should have bought the Twin long ago but I opted for a Sunn way back when because it was a "stack" and that was a cool thing to have. Right now it is more amp than I need. It's one heavy sucker. I probably would have been happier with a Deluxe Reverb based on the weight and my current needs. The features are great.

2 seperate channels, use an a/b or a/b y box for best results. i use a custom made ab/y box and use the normal channel for a boost on solo's. i wish it would drive a little when cranked but it just stay's clean all the way up. so i got a few different overdrive pedals for different situations. the reverb and vibrato are the best in the business. i use this amp for everything -- it's what it was made for. i use a hwy 1 tele with active emg's. stay's quiet no matter the gig, party's - clubs - bars - recording. when i first got this amp brand new in 2007 it was loud and clean, but after you break it in a little and let the tubes burn in, it sounds much better over time. the sound grows on you. i've owned older twins ( black and silver face) and the sound is just as good not better but as good.

Built in 1991 Serial Number 029 of the first 300 reissues built. Fender was orginally only going to make 300. The amp was so successful that they have continued them to this day. Excellent Power and stays clean all the way to 10. Only used it outside at that volume once back in 1993. Since 93 it has only been used in my recording studio and still has all the original tubes.

Best clean sound ever, handles pedals and other effects units excellentlly. Very little tube crunch unless turned all the way up.
Usually 2 or 3 is all that is needed in a gigging situation. The amp works well with any guitar, single coil, humbuckers, solid or hollow body. From Classic Rock, to Blues to Jazz.

Like I said it still has the original tubes. And yes I'd take it out and gig without a backup if it wasn't so damned heavy. But I use my Peavey Classic 30 for gigs. Which is 25 ibs less and has more tube break up and a nice crunch channel. Just plain guitar and amp, no effects needed.

Not quite as loud or as clean as the 79 twin i used to have. It takes OD pedals great, I like the ts9dx or the Sansamp Classic. With a good OD pedal it's a near perfect high power, somewhat compact rig. The sansamp makes it sound very cranked plexi like, and with the twin's clean, I have my two favorite amp tones. Between this rig and an HSS strat, many good tones are available. I rarely need the power this offers and I hate lugging it around so I don't use it that often. But with fresh tubes and the right OD I consider it my best sounding, most versitile amp.

So far it's been good but highly doubtfull it will last like the original black and silverfaces (true 10's in this category). I don't use it a lot but being a fairly new amp, I would feel quite confident in it.

Tone is almost as good as the originals. Reliability is not able to compare to the originals, it's all cheaply manufactured plastic parts and pcb's inside. If only judging the electronic build, it's equal to a high end peavey or crate (not bad amps and great tone in their own league). But if Fender built it like the original, it would be a thousand higher. So it's a fair trade-off for near perfect tone at a price I can swing. My biggest beef with this and all twins new or old, is the lack of a complimentary hernia belt embroidered with the long tail F logo. I'm certain that single handed, suitcase style handle on the top was the idea of Leo himself. Anyone else surely would have been told how ridiculous this is and then changed to a two handed handle system. Since it came from the top dog, the designers just nodded and quietly added some millitary grade castors so they wouldn't get laughed out the door. Or maybe Leo's uncle was a chiropractor in Fullerton?

I'm going to try to make this review as thorough as possible, so you don't have to sift through a thousand other ones. Sound good?
I bought mine used in West Hartford, CT. The year is mid 90's. I play indie and alternative, and I wanted a really clean amp that could handle effect pedals well. I made the right choice with the Twin Reverb.
It has two channels: normal and reverb/vibrato, with two inputs for each channel. This is useful if you have a chorus or delay with stereo outputs. Since it is a Reissue, it is faithful to the 65' original; that is, no channel switching, no effects loops, no RCA outputs, etc. However, it is ALL TUBE, with 6 preamp tubes and 4 output tubes. What does this mean? It means you can't get a better clean tone ANYWHERE ELSE. Please note that the amp sounds pretty good at low volumes, but sounds absolutely stunning at higher ones, so be sure the parents/wife/girlfriends are out of the house so you can experience what the Twin can do.
I use it for gigging, and I don't usually blast it. I usually have two SM57s mic'd to each of the speaker cones, and it does wonders for me. I wouldn't use this amp in huge rooms or halls, since it sounds less than flattering at really high volumes. However, since it is 85 watts and all tube circuitry, it can get LOUD. I'd say it is an all around usable amp, and a great investment for the semi-serious to serious gigging musician.

This is the perfect clean channel amp. Since there is no channel switching, you'll have to stick with either channel, and you'll have to buy effects pedals (unless you have a separate amp for distortion). Definitely NOT for metalheads, but for all kinds of rock, blues, and especially jazz, this thing is a godsend. It can produce it's own overdrive when cranked, but unless you are a really light-hearted musician, get yourself some good distortion or overdrive pedals, and I don't mean Boss or anything you can get at Guitar Center; I mean either boutique, expensive true bypass pedals or custom built pedals. It really pays off if you save up for the good stuff.
I use this with a Gibson SG Standard and a heavily modified Epiphone ES-335 with P-90s, so I know what this amp can do. With humbucker equipped guitars, the sound is warm and punchy, although you will find yourself rolling the treble off on the amp, unless you want spiky ear drum killing sounds. However, if you sit and fine tune the EQ, you can get a great rhythm and jazz sound. The bright switch really makes the pickups nice and bassy without getting muddy. I usually use the SG on this setting.
For single coil equipped guitars, the sound is clearer and cuts through any musical ensemble. It is possibly the best clean tone money can buy, and with a little EQing, you can get any sound you desire. Smokey jazz tones, bright overdrive, thick rhythm, anything. It's very difficult to get a truly bad sounding setting.
WARNING: If you are going to use pedals, especially distortion pedals, listen up. You will have to play around with the settings on your pedal and the bright switch/settings on the amp. First, find a nice clean sound you are happy with; you'll be surprised how much the settings on the amp will effect the way your stompbox distortion sounds. Then, EQ your distortion, and play with the bright switch; in some cases, the bright switch makes good sounding stompboxes tinny and trebly, i.e. sounding like garbage. Other times, the bright switch will make distortions that are lacking high end sparkle and come to life, making you grin like a little brat. So, be sure to play around and be open minded to new ideas with this amp. It won't let you down.

Can I rely on it? Yes, of course I can. I keep it in top shape and baby the thing, it was expensive! I wouldn't recommend this amp for anyone who treats their gear like crap, since it will wear down fast. The grill cloth is pretty delicate, the tubes are delicate and are prone to falling out, and something could get stuck in the casters, throwing it off balance. Seeing how it is so heavy (60+ pounds), it's a real pain in the ass to take to gigs, and I can't help but treat it like gold, because I'm scared the tubes will break or get lost or god knows what else. I'm sure this amp will last me a long time, but I am not confident it could withstand a tour's worth of abuse for very long.

I have been playing for 5 years, and I'm pretty simple when it comes to gear. I like my effects, but don't overdo it, and I like equipment that is reliable and can get the job done, day after day. The Fender Twin Reverb Reissue is a great clean amp, as well as a great amp in itself.
If this thing were stolen, I would probably go for something else. This is a great amp, but I haven't tried out all the gear out there, and would probably save up for a Mesa/Boogie, or a Vox AC30 or something.
I only wish this amp had channel switching, and could go into overdrive a little easier (when you crank this thing to clipping level, the walls around about to fall down.) It's simple, it's easy to use, and it won't let you down if you want the best clean out there.

Not sure of the year it was made, but bought it brand new in the box in December 2006. I play hard rock (GNR, Van Halen), some metal (Iron Maiden, Metallica, not the Nu stuff), classic rock (Led Zep), and some blues, grunge, punk, and this amp can do them all with the right setup. This is a reissue, so none of the modern day conveniences of channel switching, headphone jacks, cd ins, etc. It has 2 independent channels (normal and vibrato/reverb) with 2 inputs each. This amp is mostly for playing at home, but as already mentioned in other reveiews, it could easily play large clubs and tick off your neighbors. It also has an external speaker jack, so the neighbors 3 blocks over can enjoy. She's all tube, 85 watts, has 2x12" Jensen speakers and weighs an awkward 64 lbs.

This is the famous Fender clean/glass sound. Even at high volumes it is difficult to overdrive this amp. I have not taken it to its maximum, but it shakes my house at 5 and still clean. The tones that come out of this amp make me grin. You absolutely need to play it. This amp has that great glassy clean tone that makes me wanna play clean all the time (and I love distortion). As I said this amp does not distort, but I prefer pedals anyway. I brought my Gibson Les Paul Standard Ltd (Manhattan Midnight with Burstbucker pros) and my Keeley modified DS-1, as well as my cables to be sure that I knew what my little rig would sound like. She has a fantastic deep low end, which I love, and beatiful harmonics. With the distortion pedal, the burstbuckers finally squealed with sustained artificial harmonics (something I was missing with my Marshall mg50dfx). When I was researching the amp to replace my solid state marshall that wasn't doing justice to my paul, I read lots of reviews about the twin that said it was great at blues, but also accepted pedals well. Let me tell ya, at the store, I was sandwiched between 2 guys playing marshall stacks (a TSL head and a 50w solid state). I love the marshall tone, but I wanted more versatility and a good value on a combo tube amp. With my keeley pedal, I can get the marshall distortion and harmonic variation with the twin. When it's off, I get the famous fender tone (better than any modeling amp I've tried). This amp is also not too buzzy.

Haven't had it that long. I do recommend purchasing a warranty from a store if you're able. Some reviews say it runs very hot. I don't think mine feels hot. I have a 1966 original deluxe reverb that has been abused and it runs just as hot and still cranking, so the heat don't bother me.

I've been playing for over 15 years. Grew up with late 80's and early 90's hair metal, rock, and grunge, and those are my predominant influences. Lost all my previous equipment in a hurricane, but started over 1 year ago with the les paul. After waiting for a year to follow that big purchase up, I'm very pleased that I found the twin reverb to match with it. The paul really sings through it (oh the sustain!). Don't ever buy an amp (esp one this expensive) based solely on reviews. I compared this to the 65 Fender Deluxe Reverb Reissue and a Vox ACC30 2x12 in the store. I went in planning to buy the Vox after reading reviews on this sight, but tonally, it didn't come close to the twin. The twin is more bassey (love that kick in gut feel), and the lack of a mid tone control on the deluxe and the ACC30 made a huge difference to me. Much harder to get a good tone (at least with my paul). If you want a foundation for great tone and harmonics, try this amp out, it's well worth it, even for hard rock/old school metal (probably not nu metal). Bring your guitar and effects to the store and be sure to compare to find the sound you're looking for. I found mine in the the reissue 65 twin reverb. Good luck.

Leo Fender will be turning in his grave. I've had it for 5 years. After 3 years the output transformer failed, destroying 4 expensive phillips 7581A tubes and it took around 4 months just to get a replacement from Fender. It now looks like after only another 2 years, the same problem has developed and I despair again. The amp has also blown a lot of tubes and like other users I am extremely concerned about the heat that this amp produces, it really is frightening, especially since I heard recently of one of these catching fire in Manchester and anyone i've spoke to has had one of these amps has had problems with them. I wouldn't buy a Fender amp ever again, a shame because I am still in love with the sound of the classic Blackface Fenders.

Again, who do Fender think they are? I was a Fender fan through and through but after waiting 4 months for a replacement output transformer and having to do a shit load of leg work to get them to come good on warranty, I will never, ever buy a Fender product again, not even a plectrum. I think they really need to look at their ethics, either make amps worthy of the price or lower the price. Simple. Fender have too much quality competition in the amp market to be getting by on their name alone, I think they are a joke. What happened to the times when they gave a shit about the hard-working musicians their products where designed for, Leo Fender will be turning in his grave, he designed products to be reliable, maintainable and value for money, now it's the opposite.

The paradox, the tone of this amp will ring in my ears for ever but yet the pain it has caused me in repair bills, inconvenience, fear and heartache will mean like I've already said, I will never buy Fender again, not even a plectrum.

The amp is very versitile pending effect pedals used
I play country, jazz, classic rock, gospel, blues.
Two channels, Clean, and vibrato. No channel switching, no effects loop, no headphone jack.
I wish it had reverb on each channel. Only has reverb on Vibrato channel.
I use the amp for practice and at occassional gigs. Has a lot of power at 85 watts. very lound amp. I set the volume between 2 and 3 for most purposes. Has an excellent reverb sound, and the vibrato is nice for the 60's sound.

This amp has the best clean sound I've ever experienced. The reverb is also very exceptional. I've owened Marshall, Peavy, MusicMan and other Fender Amps. This one has by far the best clean sound.
This amp does not have a distortion channel. You will need to try a variety of OD pedals out test your specific tastes. I use my Boss
ME50, and with some experimention, I found the distortion sound I am most comfortable with. My American Fender Straticaster sounds the best for my, My Telecaster also is a good match. My Les Paul sounded good for Jazz. This amp delivers all the sounds I need.
I visited Guitar City in Denver Colorado, and played Peavy, Marshall, and Mesa/Boogie amps along side of this amp. The Fender by far had the best clean and reverb sounds. I have not experienced any hum, but rarely play in volumes above 3 or 4.

Ive been playing guitar for over 39 years. I've owened other fender amps, Peavy, Marshall, Music Man, Carvin, etc. and this amp has the best clean and reverb sounds. The amp is very dymanic, and responds crisply with your finger picking styles. I would be very disappointed if it were stolen, however, I don't know if I could afford to purchase another one. I love the tone this amp delivers, as few amps can match what this amp was designed for. I hate the 65lbs of weight when moving it around. In my comparisons to guitar amps in this class, no other had the tone I was listening for. The amp is also very easy to run, and the knobs are easy to see ( for those of us in our 50's ). Everything is at the front were easy access. I wish it had a footswitch to change channels. This has to be done physically by moving the input cord. I perfer the clean, undistorted sounds of the blues and county picking styles of Don Rich of the Buckaroo's. This amp delivers for me on these sounds. I could have paid $ 1,000. more for a Mesa/Boogie, that had great distortion sounds, but didn't come close in clean/reverb sounds.

I use it primarily for classic rock/blues rock, with a Keeley-modded TS9 and a Fulltone OCD in front of the vibrato channel. The clean sound is remarkable, as is the reverb. This amp can handle any live setting. Ample headroom. If you're looking for a tube amp you can crank up for some good tube distortion, this isn't the amp for you. By the time it starts breaking up, you'll already be deaf or have the police at your door. It took me a little while to find overdrive pedals I was happy with - the TRRI is generally NOT pedal-friendly - but after much experimenting, I've found that both the Keeley TS and the Fulltone OCD do the job magnificently. The array of tonal variations at your disposal is truly awesome, just be ready to spend some time playing around w/the settings a bit.

I've had it for a year and no problems yet, but I'm reserving judgement for awhile longer. The obvious pitfall of getting one the Reissue is that a PCB has replaced point to point handwiring, and as a result, the expense of repairing the amp is exponentially higher.

Bought the amp new in 1997 It is versatile enough for all the styles I play: blues, rock, pop, gospel, contemporary Christian, acoustic fingerpicking and strumming. 2 channels it has. I amost always only use the channel w/ the tremelo controls on it. Tremelo is great for adding a lot of emotion to a song. Used the "normal" channel for a vocal mic once...rehearsal...worked great along w/ the guitar playing. I use all the features on it all the time but it only has 2: tremelo and reverb! I've used this amp mainly in church playing worship music (20 years doing that). Also played the blues in bars with it. Has MORE than enough power. I rarely play it w/ volume beyond 2. Fender has 1 volume "LOUD!". I've played it up to 7. Some day I'll have to try it at 10. It's all tube and MAN! What a sweet sound this thing has.

I use this amp with 6 of my 7 guitars. 1 of them needs restoration. I got 2 Gibsons: a 1990 ES335 and 1976 Les Paul Custom, 2 Strats: 1976 Standard, 1994 Eric Clapton signature model, 2 acoustics: 1982 Takamine F360 w/ 1986 Seymour Duncan SA-1 removeable pickup, 2005 Esteban w/ built-in pickup. All my electric guitars have original stock pickups. I'm a lead guitarist, rock and blues mostly, but the past year or so been playing rhythmn in church..kinda boring, but kinda nice to be lazy..I like to really RIP and BURN whenever I can...on acoustic I fingerpick blues, folk, contemporary Christian. Have not yet driven this amp to distortion by overload. I use a Boss pedal for distortion which does the job for me..Sometime I should overdrive it and see what it does besides blow the sheetrock off the walls and frighten small animals. What I LOVE about this amp is the huge fatness and smoothness of the tone and sound. Unbelievable! I've never played another amp that had such a great sound. Other band members love this amp too. It has a sweet sound that only tubes can make and I think the Jensen speakers are a big factor in the sound. I have 5 other amps, 4 of them tube amps, one a 1990 Marshall JCM 800 model 2210, and the '65 Twin Reissue has the warmest, most appealing sound. It really has a world class sound quality.

When they need a tune-up, bring 'em to a good, qualified service technician and let him have at it. I am dismayed when I read about all the problems some other reviewers of this amp have had. Makes me wonder how I lucked out! Or maybe Fender has changed something about them or assembly in low quality factories has messed with the quality. Mine is a jewell!

Amplifiers: Marshalls: JCM 800 model 2210 full stack, 8080 Valvestate w/ Digitech GSP 2101 studio tube pre-amp, Fenders: '65 Twin Reissue, two 1976 Vibro-Champs, and just today bought a 1976 Princeton Reverb (can't wait to plug into that!), 1977 Yamaha 50-112 (hissy solid state monster which really sucks and which I haven't used for 15 years or so!), all the guitars noted above, speaker cabs: Marshalls: 4x12 model 1960A, 2x12 model 1936 w/ Greenbacks-fantastic sound, 1x12 model 1912, Seymour Duncan 4x12 (VERY nice!), Crate 8 channel P.A. amp (great sound), 1995 Soundtech BZE 12" P.A. speakers, 2 Shure SM58s, 1991 Yamaha MT100II 4 track cassette deck, 1996 DBX 262 compressor/limiter, etc. If this amp was stolen I'd be really mad, or if it were lost I'd be very sad. I'd get another one ASAP. I love everything about this amp except it weighs 65 pounds and is a bit of a bear to schlep around to gigs. I schlep it on wheels, but still have to lift and carry it on and offstage. When I have a roadie to do that, it will be a non-issue! Till then, it's my back...Compared to my other amps, it's my favorite. Compared to ALL other amps, I think only a Matchless might sound better. Maybe. I actually chose this amp because B.B. King uses or used to use an 85 watt Fender Twin. I thought 100 watts was too much, but really, this 85 watts can probably kill bugs flying in the vicinity if it's cranked up past 8. I really wish it had a "half power" switch and may have it modified for that some day. It's so dang loud, half power would be all you'd need except in the most extreme conditions. I'd recommend this amp to anyone. It's one of those "all around" amps you can use for anything, and the quality of the sound is sublime and amazing. In my opinion, of course!

Now, THIS AMP SUCKS IMO. mine is in the shop for the same problem again since march 06 . volume loss . now no sound. i had a deville 410 before and in 3 months of owning that he solder joints went out. before that a Blues Jr. volume fading in and out. sold the JR bought another one and been fine for over a year now though. the twins today sound nothing like the ones of yesterday. the devilles sound like the silverface twins to me at vol.on 2 on the deville imo. i tried one only once though. the 65TRRI sounds good at first then seems to get stale.

30 years of ciggaretts, beer, and gigs. sold the 59 bassman because the loss of control with distortion pedals. the deville crapped out in 3 months and then sounded lifeless after it was fixed, my second BJ is ok 1 year + . now the my 65 twin broke twice in 3 months. my hot rod deluxe is 2 months old and fine but tired of living in fear so im trading that too before that breaks. im buying 2 pre 2000 marshall heads and 2 1960 cabs for my shows and only keeping the blues JR for practises.

This amp has a very good clean tone.. However Im wondering if something is wrong with mine!?... These amps are supposed to be known for ultra clean headroom even at high volumes...
When I turn it up to 6-7 & hit the low E string on my Tele I get a slight overdriving sound (it almost sounded like speaker cone breakup)... So I took out the original Fender / Eminence speakers & ordered 2 big 150 watt honkers... Same sound... So I then used an external cab to make sure the buzz wasnt due to something loose inside the amp... same sound...
The tubes are supposed to be pretty fresh (less than 20hrs).. its got Fender/Groovetube 6L6's in it..
DOES ANYONE HAVE ANY IDEA OF WHAT THIS COULD BE?.. BECAUSE IM THINKING THIS IS NOT NORMAL FOR THIS AMP... at least not normal from what others are reporting.
Email me at asims@usxpress.com if you have helpful info!

Uh, I play an 1985-or-so American Tele, stock pickups-->SIB Varidrive-->1970's Phase 100--->amp. It is deafeningly loud and clean, but not sterile clean; smooth and rich. I use the Varidrive as sort of a lead channel (it is more of a pre-amp and less of a stomp box), the old MXR is a bit noisy, but it sounds really lovely, so I won't complain. I play a wide variety of styles, which is exactly what most everyone says. Everything sound just like it is coming from a Tele through a Twin. To know it is to love it. Rock-type sounds come from the Varidrive. Also, the reverb is just wow. No other words, it is the reverb.

I had a silverface Twin. It didn't sound as good, but it also didn't ever break. I haven't had any issues (outside of the normal wear of parts) with any of the half-dozen or so Fender amps I've owned over the last 20 (oh my god) years. I am very gentle on my amps (now that I'm old anyway), so I don't see any catastrophe on the horizon.

I have pretty much pared down my collection to what I use. I've had tons of things, as have most electric guitarists. Now I have my Tele (that I've always had), My newish Twin, and a few cheap acoustic instruments for the company to play with. I feel like I wasted lots of time and money, but that's easy to say when you find "it". The "10" rating here says "fantastic value" which I can't say is true or not, but I would probably call upon the hounds of hell (pretty brave for an atheist) to retrieve my Twin lest someone feel strong enough to run off with 65 pounds of elbow-destroying amplification.

2004 american strat, 1990 PRS, 2005 rick 330/12, santa cruz w/ sunrise PU....suits my music style perfectly because it sounds perfect without pedals and, with them. it is not noisy at all...especially compared to my DRRI. without my pedals, its nearly silent. perfectly clear pure sound, with a great warm tone all the way up. mine came with the white label groove tubes...i have read that these suck, but for now...im not tempted to change them. if i decide to not take this back to GT, i will replace them with a set from eurotubes.com and keep the stock ones as a spare set. so far, it sounds great at the volumes im playing at which is below 4....closer to 2.5 actually

I have a question...im tempted to take this back because it gets very hot. does your faceplate, specifically, the area near where "Twin Reverb Amp" is written get so hot that you can barely touch it?..even after 10 minutes? i have never had an amp that gets this hot. i had a twin reverb II head that got pretty hot but nothing at all like this. my deluxe reverb reissue gets hot, but not uncomfortably hot and this concerns me because it seems hot enough to melt plastic. i dont smell anything too alarming...but i do smell something and would expect to even at lower temperatures...i think
if this is a normal thing for a twin, please write to me. i would appreciate it/ srandallf@gmail.com / thanks...

i hate how heavy it is. a dolly and wheels are a must if gigging, for me at least. much prefer this to my deluxe reverb. its much more inspiring and useful. compared it to an AC-30 and it took me only a few minutes to realize which was far better...the Twin.
Wish it had an AC outlet on the back and came with wheels, though thats an easy fix.

I use a 57' Strat, a Burny Les Paul copy, and a Mexican Super Strat.
I bough the Twin because a ffriend of mine reccomended it for what I play, which is mostly blues, it fits the bill perfectly. I've gotten somehting of Eddie Van Halend Brown sound of it before with my Les Paul so it's quite versatile.
It is a quiet amp for a tube amp, I practice at 10 and the only noise I usally hear (besides a deffening roar of my guitar) are the single coils.
It has a beutiful clean sound. I play some Dire Straits (Down to the Waterline early suff.) and I can pick of the Knopfler tone at the right setting (2nd channel, 1st input, bright swith on, teble 7, mid 5, bass 6 volume about 5). I can a tone similar to Stevie Ray's Couldn't Stand the weather tone easily too. At about 6 or 7 it overdirves nicely, real smooth and rich; you also loosing your hearing for the most part.

I've been playing for abuot 2 1/2 yrs. I listed my guitars above and the only other amp I own is a Vox Cambridge 30 Reverb. For effects I use a Ibanez TS9 reissue, EH Small Stone, and Vox V857(?) wah peadal.
I play mostly blues, funk, and classic rock. I play some Police stuff too, and can get and Andy Summers tone going on with this amp.
If it where stolen I would most likely get another one, these new Vox Ac15's are tempting though.
I love the sound and reliability of this amp. Abolutly fabulouse, gets the tone I want. Did mention the Lovely reverb? The Reverb is the best I've heard.
I've Compared my Twin to the Following: Fender 64' Deluxe reverb, Fender 65' Vibroverb, Fender 64' Vibrolux, 67' Super Reverb. This thing will stand up to those old amps in my opinion; only amps I prefer are old AC15's and Marshall JTM45's.
Overall a Great amp in my opinon, certainly try one out if you're looking for a good tube amp.

There is not a guitar that does not sound great with this amp. For cleans, this amp is beautiful. I was looking for a 212 combo for the sound dispersion (and not being to crazy about 10 inch speakers), and I thought this amp would do it. And it does for clean sounds.
Occasionally, however, I wanted an overdriven sound, and thinking that I was not too naive, I knew that there was no way to crank this amp for such a sound. So, I relied on my trusty 808 overdrive reissue (which is great), but I have discovered one thing over time: Overdrive pedals seem to work best when the amp is already being driven to some extent, or when the input on the overdrive pedal is up high. The problem with this amp is that to get it to that point, it already has to be incredibly loud, and while I love it loud, my band members don't. (in fact, the first time I jammed with the trri, the other guitarist left the studio, went outside, and called me on my cell phone, and said "Mike, turn it down." I trust some of you have had this experience).
So, with the amp at one or two, and the overdrive pedal, a les paul sounds pretty good, but anything with single coils sounds empty because I can't drive the amp.
For those of you who right reviews above me (i.e., subsequently), this is not a complaint that the amp cannot be driven. I think it has the most beautiful clean and sparkle on the planet. It is a word to those shopping around that this amp cannot be driven in everyday situations, in most clubs, at most gigs, at home, or almost anywhere else. That is the reality of these amps. If you read reviews about pulling power tubes, it does not help that much.
I have found that the deluxe reverb, super reverb, bassman 59 reissue, 57 tweed twin reissue, are better suited to being driven if that is your goal.
Don't get me wrong, the amp sounds beautiful clean and loud. It's just not realistic to expect to be able to hit the sweet spot on this amp and have everyone stick around.
I still give it a 9 for what it is designed to be.

I have used Hums and singles with this amp. My style is edgy to hard improv rock, blues, funk, and jazz. As with any tube amp this thing can be noisy with bad power and effects. It amplifies what ever you put in front. Noisy pedals will be really loud noisy pedals. With quality tubes and proper maintenance this thing is loud and clean up to 11. The breakup that it does get is at very high volumes with humbuckers and you better be in a big room and have some distance between you and the amp or you are putting your hearing at risk. I have found the most usable settings between 2-5 on the volume but I don't paticularly care for fender breakup anyway is seems. It's loud and clean. That's what it does, always.... This amp will always sound great with a strat for clean tones and will make even a bad guitar sound stellar in that department. You will be very discoureged if you by this amp thinking you can play in your bedroom , dorm, or apartment. In those situations you will likely get better tone from a modeling amp of some kind. This amp needs to be opened up to at least 3 to sound it's best and even that volume will raise eyebrows in a small venue. I have used a THD Hotplate with great success to get good tone and appropriate volumes. Bottome line for sound in this amp is Loud, Clean, with very good reverb. Stack as many effects as you want into this and as long as the power quality is good and the the effects are not noisy you will be ok. Again, this amp just makes whatever you put in front of it louder. I took this to a friends house and was joking about how loud it was. Cranked it up to about 4.5 and hit a big E5 and literally knocked pictures off his wall. I'm not a tone guru but it's the best loud clean that I have ever heard.

I have a love/hate affair with this amp. I've had it for over 5 years now and it has served me well but I just need more versitility. This amp is what it is and that is it's strong point. Don't knock it for what it isn't. There is a Fender amp for every situation so don't try to fit a square peg in the round hole. Find the amp that does what you need and want.

My 1965 Twin Reissue is the 29th one built out of the first 300. Fenders intentions were to only create 300 of these but they proved so popular they still make them to this day. Forget the reviews that say the originals came out in 1965. They did not, it was 1963 -1967 thus the mid point being 65. Leo Fender designed this amp prior to the 65 CBS takeover. I purchased mine new in 1991 and paid an extra $100.00 due to the serial number. There is no sense rehashing all the info in previous reviews so I will just say that this is thee ultimate clean amp all the way to 10. As it should be. Suffice it to say that it has been on every Rock, Country, Jazz and Blues stage for decades. I give a 10 for versatility because of the amps clean ability to process effects from pedals, boards etc.

Sounds great with my Fender Tele and Strat. Fender 72 Thinline Reissue with Humbuckers, Les Paul and ES335 copies (don't believe in wasting money when I don't have to) and any guitar I run through it.
Everyone seems to worry about how many watts an amp is and leave out the fact that it is the tone that is the most important. This amp has the sought after Fender tone and if anyone thinks the originals sounded better it is based on bias and not fact. You can easily swap out tubes and speakers but mine have Jensons as the originals did and I wouldn't think of changing them. Now back to the watts vs tone issue. As many have said on here you CAN use effects units to get whatever sound you want and this is the amp to do it with. But for that old tweed blues distorted sound I use my Peavey Classic 20 (15watts) and am leaning towards picking up a Fender Blues Jr only because of the fender reverb sound built in and a 12" speaker. Let me point out the fact that an 85 watt Fender Twin Reissue is only twice as loud as an 8.5 watt tube amp. It takes 10 times the wattage to double the sound level. What you get with added wattage is headroom thus more clarity at a higher volume. This is why many times you will see a Fender Twin on stage with a Fender Bassman used by the same guitarist. The Bassmans lower wattage equals more distortion. Best Clean Tone on the planet.

I have used this amp since 1991 with the original tubes and not one single issue that would have required a backup. The dry channel has a harmonic tube in it from day one but I don't use that channel so have never swapped it out. I will eventually drop some JJ tubes in. I just put these in my Classic 20 and it certainly made that amp a keeper. The 65 Reissue is a workhorse!

If I didn't have a twin owning one would be my ulitmate goal.
The amp certainly is one for someone that can afford it.
If you are just starting out and want the best of both worlds (clean and dirty tube tone) at lower volumes then I would recommend a Fender Blues Jr. It would be an amp that you can start out with and keep to use along side your 65 Reissue when you can put out the bucks for one.

Pretty simple setup. There are two channels, both clean, but one with vibrato and reverb. Both channels have a bright switch (that i adore and always keep on.. it brings the amp alive). Also each channel has two inputs, the first is loud, the second is more quiet. I love the loud one because you can really hear those tubes! Both channels also, of course, have volume, treble, mid, bass controls. Very responsive controls. Features-wise, i really dont need anything else. It is the staple of perfect clean tone.

I'm playing a Fender Deluxe American Stratocaster > Fulltone Clyde wah > Keeley mod TS808 > Keeley compressor > Keeley mod blues driver > EHX small stone > EHX deluxe memory man > digitech jamman. The jamman is more for playing alone and jamming with myself. Not sure if i would use it on stage as i feel it sucks up a bit of tone.
If you know anything about music equipment, you can probably tell i spent a whole lot of money on all my shite. The reason is, all the mass produced pedals today sound like complete crap. I've tried so many pedals and really, the only things that really bring out amazing vintage tone are keeley and fulltone (for OD/dist at least..and out of what ive tried. never got my hands on a klon centaur). Sucks theyre expensive as hell but hey, its worth it.
The reason i got all these pedals is because this Twin Reverb is honestly the most amazing clean sound i have ever heard. It has ridiculous headroom (85W!). A lot of people say DO NOT buy this amp if you want a tube amp that will break up. Untrue. Sure this thing will not break up for anything, but you can take out two of the 6L6s (1,3 or 2,4) and boom itll break up around 4 or 5.
So when you have an amazing classic guitar such as a deluxe strat, you play it through some really quality, hand-built "boutique" pedals such as mine, and put it through this twin reissue..... I swear youll cream yourself every time. It really doesn't get better than this. I HIGHLY recommend this amp to anyone interested in jazz, blues, rock, or country. And especially if youre into vintage tone, this is how you do it baby. It can do it all.
By the way the new samarium cobalt noiseless pickups on the new deluxe strats are freakin awesome. Dont listen to the retarded bashing conservatives, these things sound perfect.
Wait a second. Why the hell am i even writing a review on the twin. Doesnt everyone know this thing is one of the best amps ever thats been on stage with every legend at some point.

Is this amp versatile or is it a one-trick pony? I'd say it is the most versatile one-trick pony I have ever seen. It provides the user with an actual foundation of good tone that you can really build on with quality pedals. I have been playing guitar for 6 years and in the past almost two years ive been obsessed with tone. With the equipment i have now, im finally happy!
If it were lost, id buy it again right away. I tried a lot of other amps and i just love fender amps. Never got into marshall. I love les pauls and custom 22s (in a few years...) and even schecters... ive tried them through the twin and they sound absolutely amazing.

I recently bought an original 65 blackface and compared with the reissue its a completely different amp. The original has way more of that jangley fender bell tone. the reissue is a good amp, but they shouldnt call it a reissue because it sounds like a different amp trust me on that. I recomend taking out the Jensen speakers and putting in Fane or JBL, also getting Tungsol reissue 6l6's

I am currently using a Peavey HP signature with a Boss DS-1 and a MT-2. This amp is so clean and precise and projecting your tone that both pedals to me used to sound awesome, now they just get the job done. I am going to get both of my pedals modded by analogman. I recommend anyone who has this amp to take out two tubes because that way you can get better tone for your practices, but still have more than enough power to drown your drummer if you really wanted too. Take out either the first or third, or the second and fourth. You will notice the difference because you will reach the sweet spot of this amp without destroying your eardrums.

Of course you could relly on it but always have a backup just in case. If you do take out two tubes, always have the other two in handy when gigging, that way you can swap them out in a breeze. Not the case if you were to use all 4 tubes. It does have some buzz but it is barely noticeable, probably in the studio it would though.

I have been playing now for 5 years. I had only owned two solid state amps that were practice only, not for gigging. Because I used to live in cancun, equipment is overpriced over there and I never saw a tube amp back at home. I would gig with amps of other amps because my band would always give the drum set. This was a HUGE step for me, mostly because I worked 3 months for this baby, but I do not regreat it at all. It was the best move I have done in my musical life.

most every musicains ever used this amp at some point in there carrer, from clapton to cobain, if its versitial enough to me
i play mostly alternative rock, classic rock, etc.
its a reissue, so not much for effects and junk but now that i think about it, onboard digital effect sound like shit to me. i use anolog effects pedals for all my effects, i do love the tremolo and reverb tank though.
enough power for me, just mic it, i do wish it had some greenbacks, but its is a reissue so they try to stay historial accurate.
i really wish is was hand wired, but for this price don't care that much.

this thing is a beast clean and watery for chorus type sound and wondeful when overdriven, pull tube 2 and 4 out for a great blues tone. it is a little noisey with single coils but i like a little feedback, who want to sound like a damn computer anyways, this amp gives you alot of head room for the clean channel, i'm acutually trying to figure out a way so dirty it up a little more at high volumes. not the amp for you metal heads but what tube amp is, extreme brutal distortion sounds like crap to me, let face it the 80 sucked..haha

compared to the bassman (great amp a lot thicker tone), marshalls (suck), mesa boogies (which i love but i just so damn expensive), and most other fender i love this one the best, the deluxe reverbs are really nice to if your on a bugget.

It is the perfect base clean to build on for a performing musician. I would not trust it at all in a studio. I've owned 3 and each has had rattle or hum problems that the techs could not isolate. The noise level these anamolies put out was only about the same DB of a normal conversation hence it would be fine during performances.

I find it amazing that after 40 years of building Twins they cannot make them a quite without all the buzzing and rattling and whisping sounds from it. Sure tube amps will have a bit of a humm and there is some buzz from a chasis I'm not that ignorant to amps but it's to the point where it is detectable by a microphone at low volume which is what I cann unnacceptable for a $1000 amp.

let's just start off by saying that i have never have and never will give a rating of 10 for anything that i own or try out, simply because there is always room for improvement in anything, at least that's what my boss tells me at work just before my annual review every year, so i take the same attitude towards gear. I think everyone knows this is probably the best sounding clean amp ever made. i play a 78 gibson explorer and a carvin sc90 through my pod xt live and i can get damn near any sound i want. this amp is just so condusive to pedals and effects. it just works great. the thing i love best about this amp is the reverb, one simple knob and you turn it to taste and it's the best sounding reverb on the planet.

I bought this amp in 2002 new at Daddy's. You all know the features. It's an all tube clean amp. What more can be said? I think it's power rating is 85 watts, but I'm not sure exactly...more on that later. I use this amp with my band and we play small club gigs, but honestly, this amps could handle any venue. Even if it's a huge concert arena, you can always mic it. There's no need for anything else.

I have a Fender American Vintage '62 reissue stratocaster and a Schecter C-1 Elite, although I mainly use the the Fender. I always use the vibrato channel (or occasionaly I mix the two). My set up is as follows: Twin, Maxon OD-808, Ibanez TS-9, Vox Wah, Digitech X-series delay, Fender or Schecter. Of course it's a little noisy with the fender, but you have to accept that. For me, I wanted a super clean amp to begin with, but now I've been looking for a way to make this amp bite a little bit without going deaf. Well I recently discovered a way to do that...the twin has 4 6L6 power tubes in back. these are lined in parallel. If you take out either the 1st and 3rd together, or the 2nd and 4th together, you end up cutting it's power rating in half. So now, instead of 85 watts, you have a nice little 42 1/2 watt combo. This way I can drive the amp a little bit harder and get just a hint of breakup around 6 or 7, but I don't have to worry about hearing loss...as much. Anyway, this, along with the two OD's creates such a smooth sustaining lead sound. it's just incredibly 3 dimensional. I know a lot of people like to pair up same brand OD's, but for some reason, I feel like I can get a better smoother singing tone by mixing it up.

After a year or so with this amp, I kept noticing that one of the tubes was overheating (I think it wasn't in right). I transport it a lot, and I could have just bumped it enough times to cause this problem, I don't know. But when I discovered that I could reduce the power rating by taking out two of the tubes, I took that one out as one of them and haven't had a problem since. I haven't replaced the tubes after 3 years and they haven't been any trouble. I think I might have been puching my speaker a bit too hard though, because it starts to fart out now when I play a G or lower on the low E string.

I got this amp for a killer deal. Daddy's was selling them for $1000 which was already better than usual, and then they had a 10% off sale on everything. So I got it brand new for $900. This amp is everything I've wanted. It gives me good clear tones that ring beautifully with my strat. Fender with Fender is a match made in heaven if you're striving for good tone. I don't really play metal, so I don't need to worry about over the top distortion. If I wanted that I'd go with an amp with an overdrive channel. I play rock/hard rock/blues. If you check out <http://www.myspace.com/thethames> You can hear what this amp sounds like with my setup. Check out solos on break my heart and nightlife to hear this baby sing.

For the uninitiated, this is a 1965 reissue. In 1965 they didn't have modeling or effects loops or distortion or master volume. The knobs on the front do what they're supposed to do, and all the stuff on the back like jacks and such, well they do too. It's all there right in front of you. Fortunately, I could see these things when I bought it, so I knew almost exactly what features this amp had.

The Fender Twin Reverb has always had the corner on the signature sound market. The reverb tank and tremolo add the correct color, this amp is clean clean clean....just like Twins always have been. Let's face it, either you're a Fender person or a Marshall person...maybe a Vox person....but if you have some mileage on the fretboard, you know who you are and what you like. And if you like glassy clean tone, Twins have no peers. If you expected crunch, you bought the wrong amp. (If you like extra big clean tone, try plugging your twin into a slant cab loaded with 4 Celestion Vintage 30's.)

I'm not too technically oriented, so it's hard to say whether this amp will stand up as well as the Silverface I used to haul around. I can say that if you're looking at tube amps, be certain that the tubes are chassis mounted versus being circuit board mounted for reliability purposes. This is a great website for ferreting out problem issues and building an amp with circuit board mounted tubes is a cheap but unreliable engineering issue that i've seen over and over again in lesser priced amps. (Below $500.00) With this machine being based on it's '65 design, reliability issues should be confined to poor manufacturing processes or parts quality not design.

I've been playing for 30+ years and currently play a 50th anniversary Tex-Mex strat. I use a TS9 modded tube screamer, mostly for some additional sustain, then straight into the amp. Between the 5 position switch on the strat and the EQ on this amp, it's a tone monster paradise. I've previously played a 72 Tele, a 79 Gibson L5S and a Strings & Things Custom through Silverface Twins...with tone to burn. If stolen, I'd go to prison for killing the thief, and buy another Twin with my license plate making money. I've never had a Twin crap on me, however have found them to be a touch noisy depending on how the house and stage lighting were wired.

The original was designed and produced in 1965 and has been reissued with the same design.
This amp is very good for any style especially with a few pedals. I play blues, jazz, and all types of rock exept heavier new metal.
The amp has two channels and the first is usually a bit brighter than two.
The amp has more than enough features for me. I tend to prefer simple amps with volume, an eq, and some reverb. That way I can leave the amp alone and fool with the pedals.
I use this amp for high school jazz band and for my own band. I do not gig with it much since the band is not ready to gig. It has plenty of power, when playing in a group I rarely turn it over 4.

I use a Fender American Series Fat Strat with a Boss CS-3 compressor pedal and an Electro Harmonix Hot Tubes.
The amp fits perfectly with my styles-blues, jazz, and rock.
This amp is very clean. Very very clean. You will get noise from your pickups but that is normal. You can turn it over 7 and it gets a bit crunchy especially when using a humbucker. Don't count on any serious overdrive because this thing is made for the cleanest tones. The reverb is a delight. It is the simple analog spring reverb which brings out a very nice vintage tone and space. It sounds a lot like the reverb on a Hammond Organ. The bright switch is very nice for playing jazz or simulating an acoustic guitar. It would be very nice as an addition to the included footpedal. The vibrato (tremelo) is a great feature, it does not turn on immediately to your command since it is tube, but it gets the job done when playing blues or something like Boulevard of Broken Dreams. On my amp i set the eq treb-4, mid-10(11), low-6ish with the reverb on 3.

This is very reliable. If it ever broke down it would be very easy to fix. There are no confusing circuits with IC's or transistors. It is very simple with some tubes and some transformers. And tubes can always be replaced. The amp has never broken down in the two years I have had it. It has been treated badly sometimes when the typical ignorant people unplug it to turn it off, which is never good for tubes.

The features have been explained. The only things I would like add concern the effects; reverb and "vibrato".
My first thought upon hearing the reverb was that I didn't particularly care for it. It sounded somehow "artificial" (which in hindsight is interesting because...well.. "reverb" IS artificial!) and cheaply created. I now attribute my first impression to the fact that I was just used to the reverb available on more contemporary equipment, while the Twin re-creates the effect as it was on the original amplifier back in '65. I have since acquired a "taste" for the reverb as it sounds on the Twin, and I appreciate it for what it is; the granddaddy of amplifier effects. However, like most things that are good in moderation, it CAN be overdone. Set it no higher than 3, you will love the subtle "space" it adds to your tone!
As for "vibrato", my first thought was "who uses vibrato (or "tremelo" as we called it in the old days) anymore"? Well, I do for one! I find that it adds a certain color to some ballads and blues. It voices emotions that recall a bygone era as effectively in 2005 as it did back in 1965.
I cannot in good conscience give it a 10 however, out of respect to the sound guys I have worked with. They prefer a direct line-out to a mic'ed cabinet any day. And while I have no problem plugging effects in directly, I'd prefer an effects loop. But for versatility, I'd definitely give it an "8".
Bottom line, with the Twin Reverb features, less is more! Plus, it has those legs that allow you to lean it back and point the sound past the drummer and right at your head!
How cool is that?
Sound Quality
:
10
I wouldn't call myself a "professional" musician because I have a day job that pays the bills, but I do play "out" on average 4 to 5 times a month, and get paid doing it.
I'm not a Metal Head! I play mostly jazz/funk/R&B and I rotate between a Fender Stratocaster, a Telecaster (U.S.A.) a Gibson ES 335, Les Paul Standard, and Night Hawk Custom. The Twin brings out the BEST in all of these guitars! It's sound is loud, crisp and squeaky clean. I usually play through a series of Boss stomp boxes (including the MT2) and it is a match made in guitar heaven. I have found that with the proper tweaking of the the Boss MT2, I can get great distortion and sustain from this amp, which is good, because I don't see you EVER getting the tubes to break up on their own, at ANY volume!
As with any amplifier, you can get a little hum from your single coil pick-ups, but it's not a show stopper. Once you start to play, no more hum.
It all depends on what you want. If you want loud, clean, warm tones that can take external effects, then this may be the best amp you can buy...and since that's what I want I'll give it a "10".

So far so good. Tubes are tubes, and the price that you pay for that great sound is the cost of periodically replacing and re-biasing the tubes. I haven't had her that long but between practice and performance I have definitely broken her in. One must use care when handling a tube amplifier, particularlly when the tubes are hot! Try not bump it too much (or drop it) until it has had a chance to cool off a little.
My back-up plan for performing does not involve another amplifier; in the event of amp-failure, I would simply plug into the sound board using a direct box and finish the set. The next day, I'd limp over to my trusty guitar/amp tech and see whats wong wiff by wittle baby!
Actually the practical reason for not traveling with a back-up is that I believe Fender named this amp "The Twin Reverb" because it's as HEAVY AS TWO AMPS ALL BY ITSELF! So until I can hire my own roadie....

Overall, I think the Fender Twin Reverb is one of the best amplifiers that money can buy!
I have been playing off and on for almost 30 yrs (mostly "on" for the last 8 or so). I have three amp heads, two cabinets, one other combo, the aforementioned guitars and an assortment of Boss stomp boxes. I got this amp because I needed something loud, but I was tired of making two trips to the car to load/unload a speaker cabinet, then a head. Had I "bit the bullet" early on and bought this amp first, I would probably only have one amplifier today.
If someone can grab this amplifier and run with it, as heavy as it is, the big brute can have it! I'll just get another one. I don't drink (anymore!), so I doubt that I'd ever "lose" it...

It has a little 'hum' noise but it maybe the tubes. And it also makes a big pop when changing from standby to on, and this is not really good for the speakers, it makes it at 0 volume in both channels, without any guitar connected too (I think i've read this trick in order to make the pop dissapear in a guitar magazine or something by the way).
But the sound is incredible, better than I wished before buying it...

There's nothing better than something you can plug into that sounds awesome straight away. Two separate channels although unfootswitchable you'll probably find you'll use the vibrato channel for the optional reverb and vibrate. I haven't used the normal channel but presume it's the same without these extras. Bass, treble mid Reverb vibrate.... simple, the way it should be. No overdrive which you'll probably know if looking at this amp (any complaints go back and do a search on MESA or MARSHALL). Basically the features resemble in exact detail the original design which is what a reissue should be.

I use a Telecaster mainly set to the neck pickup as I play with smooth clean tones. I play mainly a dub/reggae style so wanted something I could crank whilst preserving the clean tone. I tried out a Fender Deville 212 but found the overdrive channel was no use to me so thought why not get something that concentrates on the clean. I've found that rarely an amp will deliver a high quality clean channel as well as drive. In my opinion you don't buy a fender for the overdrive so why not create a clean warm base and build with drive effects if needed. I set the volume between 4 and 5 for a nice level and tone, anything higher will have your drummer in earmuffs, this thing is loud!! I only bought it a month or so ago but it has been love ever since.

I play an American series Tele and an Epiphone Casino. I play mostly alternative rock and can say that this amp has the power to compete with the loudest half stacks. It gives a wonderful crisp, clean sound and the reverb (which is why anyone would buy this) is excellent. A lot of people are upset that this amp does not have distortion but with the number of good pedals on the market, this should not be a problem. I use an Ibanez Tube Screamer and couldn't ask for a better sound. If you have any questions about this amp, go to concerts and take note of how many professionals are using this amp.

I've had it for about a year and a half and have had no problems. The sound is starting to crack up a bit but this is because I've been avoiding putting some new tubes in it (one of the problems with owning a tube amp).

I've been playing for about 10 years (I grew up in alternative rock's hey day). I used to own a discontinued solid state fender that was decent but I finally decided to make a finacial commentment to getting more professional equipment. I got this amp because it has been used by the bands I love. If it was smashed or stolen, I'd definately get another one. It has defined my sound and I couldn't live without it. This is an amp that I'm proud to own and love to brag to other muscians that it's what I play through.

PRS Custom 22 & sometimes a Fender american std. telecaster. If you ever want to have some fun--put some flatwounds on the tele and play it through this amp. It is PHAT--and I do mean PHAT with a PH. Fantstic tone for my style--which is jazz, blues, and rock & roll. Bright and warm and clean and sparkley if you want it. Throw a DD-3 with a pair of ts-9's and you've got gain gain gain--despite what others here complain about. Just ask Trey Anastasio. Its just

Been playing 17 years. I also have a Boogie Mark I reissue, which I enjoy as well. If this amp were stolen or lost, first I would cry... alot. Then I would whore myself out in order to buy another one. I just love the tone and its one of those rare experiences where every time you plug in and play, you just feel all warm and fuzzy inside, you walk away and you're in a pleasant mood for the rest of the day. Some people meditate... some do yoga... I play my PRS through this thing.

If you want great distortion above anything else, get a Marshall. I'm tired of reading reviews that bitch about this amp not breaking up, not giving a good distortion, blah blah blah. This is a clean amp....period. This amp will not break up unless you play it with the volume set at 9 or 10. I agree with the ex-Nashville session player and Billy Jackson below. People are way too obsessed with distortion, modeling amps, etc. Everybody sounds the same, and very few people know what good tone is anymore. As for me, I was so sick of getting drowned out by the lead guitar player in the bands I've been in, so I thought "I'll fix their wagon". Needless to say, nobody drowns me out anymore....not the drummer, not the lead guitar player, not the bass player...nobody. More importantly, though, this amp sounds great at any volume. It really does let you hear the true sound of your guitar. The reverb is a bit noisy, but nothing that I can't handle. The tremolo (Fender calls it vibrato) is very warm and vintage sounding, as it should be. There is a reason why this amp was rated #1 in the Guitar Player reader's poll. Sounds rich and full with humbuckers, chimey and snappy with single coils. This is the most versatile tube amp manufactured.

I've had it for about six months, but I had one a couple of years ago, too. Neither one gave me any trouble. Fender amps are built to last. Take a look at the reviews of the Marshall combos. They might have good distortion, but it seems like they only last for a few months before they die. I'm sure Fender makes a lemon every now and then, but they're few and far in between.

I've been playing for 20 years, now. I didn't even know what a tube amp was until about four years ago. I had one of these about three years ago, then sold it and got a Hot Rod Deluxe. (Stupid, I know)The Hot Rod is a great amp, but I missed the crystal clear sound of the Twin, so I bought this one about six months ago. Everyone agrees that it sounds perfect. You cannot buy a better amp for the money Fender is asking for this amp. I can't believe they still sell for $1049! Yes it's heavy, but that's a small price to pay for incredible tone. Other than a Vox AC-30, Super Reverb or a Bassman, I can't think of an amp that even comes close to this one.

Well First Let me say that ive been sitting here reading these reviews and let me say there are some umm.... interesting comments on this amp. I like the guy that said it sounded tinny too bright and the one that said you cant get a good overdrive out of it. Im gonna set the record straight without giving away my secret too much :)
I like the features first off. There are two channels of clean. The first utilizing the beautiful reverb and tremelo option it has.

The clean sound on the first channel is amazing. A bright switch brings it alive and the tubes sing out! I love the funcionality of this amp. The clean tones theis amp delivers are second to none. Ok, Here itis. The answer to the lingering question in this forum of feedback toward "getting a good overdrive or fuzz tone from this amp. Actually it was a friend of mine who discovered this and it was so simple and im POSITIVE this has been the way its done for years now and im here to let let you all catch up for those who dont seem to be able to get "THE DIRTY TONE" out of this bad boy. Well, My friend who is a guitar tone guru and resident G.I.T grad shredder! got it! He took a DOD 250 PREamp pedal and a Tubescreamer pedal and ran them in series thru the sescond channel. (I liked the sound of these pedals thru both channels myself but I understood why he prefered the second channel because it didnt have the high end bite and extreme sensitivity that the first channel had. Personnal preference. You can try both channels to see for yourself. What wa the key you ask then to dirty tone?? PREAMP pedal. Thats right . You must run some type of PREAMP pedal thru this amp to activate the "circuit". Thats differant than just running any old distortion pedal. Overdrive pedal or even a fuzz pedal for that matter. The trick is that you run one of those three types of pedals I just mentioned after your PREAMp pedal. ( I found that the original DOD 250 Preamp and the Tubescreamer mod pedal were incredible sounding together thru the second channel! There you have it.!I run a JCM amp 2203x and channel swirch these two amps for clean and idrty tones my self but I still love to mess with the pedals thru my twin for certain tones.

this amp is a great foundation for any style of music(rock, blues, country, alternative, classic, punk-yes punk)
features are sparce: 2-channels, normal and vibrato; volume, treb mid bass (both channels): reverb, speed and intensity knob for vibrato channel
-simplicity is definitely best-
currently use the amp for recording and playing live/gigs
THIS AMP IS LOUD AND CLEAN!
If you want an amp that has an assortment of sound settings in it, don't buy this amp! Go buy a computer and think about what it used to sound like playing guitar!

This amp is designed for as clean of a tone as you can get- and it is very clean. that means it's hard to break up unless it is turned up to a level that almost hurts- even then, you might want to check and see if it's not the objects in the room breaking up. Sounds great with my '72 Tele custom and with my Lotus/strat-like mutt that weighs 100lbs.(bought it used nine years ago, and still can't tell what kind of pick-ups are in that beast but they sound incredible).
I haven't experienced much noise from this amp at all, aside from a slight popping sound when I turn the amp off and on(i think it's pretty normal)
THIS AMP IS VERY CLEAN, however, all you have to do is play with whatever tubes you want and you can have a twin with a whole 'nother attitude. example: you won't believe the reverb sound i got changing the two JJECC81's to NOS-Mullard 12AT7's! and if you want break-up, I changed my ECC83's to SOVTEK12AX7LPS's and love the tone even more; it's got a little grittier tone to it when it really warms up. There are plenty of power tubes to play with too, just make sure you adjust the amp properly.
IF you want a heavy distortion, as i like to play with as well, be choosy with the pedals you use. take your time and find the right ones for your sound- a lot of overdrives/distortions sound like shit with this amp. I'm still looking for the "just right" one. (tube screamer was close)

as far as I know, this amp is built to last. I've not had any problems with it in the year I've had it- and there have been some pretty rowdy times. A drunk smashed into my amp and knocked it over, and the only thing that happened was the reverb made a crashing sound- as with any reverb that is knocked. no damage was done. I'm sure there has been beer spilled upon it as well (when I wasn't looking) and it runs like a gypsy.
I wouldn't recommend gigging without having a plan-B regardless, but you should be okay if you've got spare tubes, electrical tape, etc...
I've read other reviews where people smell something burning inside the amp, or the power-on lights are burning out quickly-etc... keep the amp ventilated as with any other electical device! common sense. again, I've not had a problem with this.
I'll rate it a 9 so as not to jinx anything.

I've been playing for nine years, and I'm a sucker for a great classic amp that offers a really good clean tone for me to tweak my other sounds through. I also own an Epiphone pacemaker from '62(I believe it was '62), and a Fender Deluxe 112 for kickin' about. Too poor to buy a VoxAC30... I love this amp because it sounds great and I can hear myself over the annoying neighbors at our practice space. And, if that "one drummer" comes over, you can drown him out too.

I suggest that anyone wishing to purchase and/or compare Fender Amplifiers check their Fender Frontline Magazine series. You can get this magazine at any store that carries Fender products and its free! This can be a terrific help for any guitarist in selecting the proper amplifier for your specific needs as a musician. That said, let us examine the positive and negative aspects of the Fender 65 Twin Reverb Reissue from at least 30 years of professional and non-professional usuage with two of these amplifiers. Also, I will endeavour to include some other Fender Amplifiers in comparison to this one that I have owned and got rid of. Some limitations exist on this amplifier such as an effects loop, and/or gain selector switch. Moreover, distortion can be achieved by using certain effect pedals: Boss MT-2; BOSS GT-5; and others mentioned below. This is a clean amplifier so you have to fiddle with front dials to get your own sound. You can get distortion by using a different grade of tubes, rated 1-3 or 4-9 (e.g. Sovteks). Remember this is not a Marshall Amplifier. If your going to play heavy metal (all the time) better look at another type of amplifier! The two 12" speakers are mounted with screws coming from the front toward the back and tightened with nuts. A far better system than on other amplifiers where the speaker is screwed in from the back toward the front. The latter while cause the speaker to warp over time. Fender has changed the speakers to Jensens, rather than Emminence. This is a vast improvement in the quality of the sound. My amplifier is a 1999 model. I use both channels. Use a Boss Line Selector: one line for effects such as distortion pedals through Normal Channel, and softer effects (e.g. chorus, phaser, flanger, etc.) through Vibrato Channel. In my case I have a GT-5 which goes into the Vibrato Channel. Effects like Ibanez TS9 or BOSS MT-2 go into Normal Channel. Hope this helps, for those who wish to play a few heavy metal songs. With Jensen speakers sounds great! You might also want to look at Celestian Vintage 30's.

To all those that read this learn from this one example. When I first saw Stevie Ray Vaughan and saw the battered up Stratocastor and the sound he could get from both his guitar and amplifier you just had to be amazed. Your special sound comes from a number of things such as: the guitar, amplifier, speakers, tubes etc. that you select. Also, it comes from you! No two guitarists are the same. Likewise, you do NOT have to buy expensive to sound good! Go to a music store that has a number of DIFFERENT TYPES of amplifiers and spend a few hours comparing them to get your own individual tone. If you want to change speakers, tubes etc., to narrow your own sound down, that's great...EXPERIMENT (within reason).
Currently, I play through an Ibanez RG570 older model with a Gibson humbucker at neck, Seymour Duncan Alnico Pro in middle and a Seymour Duncan Trembucker 59 bridge position. Those that have Flyod Rose whammy bars need pick-ups that wouldn't whimp out on high and low E's. I used an Ibanez TS9 (didn't like); Boss MT-2 (great pedal); and a BOSS GT-5 (tremendous). I can go from clean to overdrive, distortion with a BOSS GT-5. My music varies from SURF to BLUES, etc. For those interested in Stevie Ray Vaughan I can achieve his sound with the above guitar and pick-ups by manipulating the front dials for each pick-up. Besides in Canada the 64 Custom Vibroverb is $3500.00. I can buy two 65 Reissues for that. Don't be fooled when purchasing an amplifier by endorsements, etc. Please read the other articles herein by professional musicians, as well. This amplifier is excellent for other types of music outside "surf" and "blues" that I play. It is a very versatile amplifier (if you know what your doing). Unfortunately, it is a heavy amplifier. The older I get the harder it is to lug around. I put castors on mine, to save my back. At 85 tube watts (not transitor watts---big difference), it gives you the flexibility to play in the house at volume levels of 4. For outside venues, you can increase the volume. This is truly the "work horse" of the Fender Line (40th year anniversary). It can be noisy with of course, single coil pick-ups. This amplifier is far better than the Custom Vibrolux Reverb. The latter crackles, pops, hisses, and acts like a speaker for radio and CB's. It had excellent vibrato and reverb. Because of the noise, I got rid of mine. Wish I had read the reviews on it before I purchased this amplifier. To me Fender should correct these inadequacies before placing the Custom Vibrolux Reverb on the market. Also, I was not very impressed with the Hot Rod Deville series. Had one, got rid of it because it rattled and the tubes kept going on me (6L6's). The Fender 65 Twin Reverb Reissue has that characteristic pop when switching off. The standby switch is excellent on this amplifier for saving your tubes. When shutting off the amplifier leave in standby for at least 5 minutes before shutting off completely.

I have had two of these amplifiers. They are extremely reliable and good investment for any musician. Just remember, they are heavy. The two 12" speakers give you nice bottom end. Reverb and vibrato are excellent, as well. I use two 12" JENSEN ALNICO P12N's in mine. Excellent for my particular taste. The 65 Deluxe Reissue Reverb is also another nice amplifier that is the little brother to this one, but has one 12" JENSEN CERAMIC speaker. I tested this amplifier and it sounds terrific at 22 watts. I might be inclined to purchase this amplifier, to help save my back, but give me the same quality of tone, I desire. Moreover, find a good technician who can service your amplifier. Check your bias (if required). If you have to go out of town do so, it is well worth it. Likewise, it is a good idea to find your own "tube testor unit". I bought one several years ago and found it saved me a lot of money. Most of the tubes that people were trying to sell me were defective. Most guitarists don't realize this that the right tubes can make or break your particular sound. Good idea to experiment with tubes in this amplifier. Also, check with tube suppliers to see what the best type of tubes are to place in your amplifier. Some suppliers have been suggesting to me: electro-harmonix, telsa, jj,jan phillips, mullard.

Excellent warranty period of 5 years. Also, warranty is transferable if you decide to sell your amplifier to another person. Depends upon who you talk with at Fender. As I stated previously, I have to go out of town for any warranty work. I have had no problems with the current amplifier, but did with the previous one in 1977. Repaired with no problems.

I would highly recommend this amplifier to those people who play a wide spectrum of music. That is, it is a highly versatile tube amplifier with the correct effects utilized. You can play at bedroom levels, and/or utilize the 85 watts to play in larger venues. Again, the weight of the amplifier can be a problem. Fender should put castors on this amplifier. There is no doubt, I would purchase another Fender 65 Twin Reissue Reverb. I notice that the cabinet is made of plywood, not finger jointed pine. I find no problem in sound quality, but if the cabinet fell, there may be a problem in terms of the current construction process? Requesting finger jointed pine construction would most likely increase its price? To me, this is the BEST amplifier Fender Musical Instruments creates. I have purchased the Custom Vibrolux Reverb, Hot Rod Deville, The Twin, Stage 160 and was not satisfied with the tone of these amplifiers for me. However, the Stage 160 DSP amplifier is nice for a transitor amplifier at small gig functions. Liked the distortion on the Stage.
All the best in selecting your amplifier, hope this review helped you make your decision. Thanks for reading it.

I bought it new 2004 -probably 2003/2004 made..'65 blackface reissue. Its no good going on about features, as this amp is a standard and everyone probably knows what these amps have on board. It has all the power you will ever need -there's nowhere to hide with these babies, if you play bad then you will be heard, as they can fill a room with sound. I gig regularly doing country rock and rockabilly -no other amp can give you those classic fat clean twangin' sounds.

I use a Strat, Tele and a Les Paul goldtop copy with P90 pickups. I use a Boss Blues Driver Pedal -always on, as I cant crank this amp without destroying eardrums. I have never run it past 4 on the volume because I get miked up for larger gigs. At 4 on the volume, people are covering their ears near the stage! It has the classic Fender sound which is hard to describe until you play through a Twin. I didn't want a lot of breakup and thats why I sold my dear old '59 Bassman RI -great amp but broke up on the bass strings up loud, and I wanted clean twang on lowe E and A.. the Twin delivers that.

This amp sounds incredible!! The clean could not possibley get any cleaner, and the reverb is to die for. It does not break up or give the overdrive that would be expected of most tube amps. I have tried various pedals through the clean channel, Tube Screamers, Fuzz faces, and even a Line 6 POD XT Live floor board and all have sounded great. The hum everyone talks about has been minimal on the worst day even with my notorious sigle coil pickups on my Strat. Like everyone says if you want a tube amp to break down and give you the overdrive you may want to look elsewhere but for pure, clean sounds and throwing in a pedal or 2 this thing is AWESOME!!

I was not disappointed by the lack of features or lack of overdrive because I knew what to expect and played through Twin's in the past.

My review of this amp is primarily based on my experiences with it using a Warmoth Strat with Van Zandt blues pickups and a SD Hot Rails in the bridge. I wanted to like this amp, but ultimately after owning it for a year I decided it wasn't right for me. I play a wide variety of music, but this amp was being used almost exclusively with my band playing covers, mostly Classic to Modern rock GnR, Skynrd, Petty, Stones, etc.
My single biggest problem with this amp was trying to get a good dirty tone. This amp is touted as a clean machine, and it lives up to that reputation. I coudn't find a good distortion pedal to put in fron of this thing. Everything I tried sounded like a pedal. When I bought this I was fully expecting to be able to get a nice warm tube overdrive, but I was unsuccesful. I tried a TS9 with Analog Man 808 mod, a RAT, a Marshall Guvnor, a Fuzzface, and one or two others that I very quickly gave up on. This amp is just not designed to break up, and I was not playing at bedroom volumes either. I've had the volume on this thing up to probably 7 or 8 which is an absolutely unbearable decible level and still nothing even resembling natural tube distortion. I repladed the original power tubes with JJ's which was a small improvement. Finally, I tried pulling two of the power tubes, which helped, and played a couple of gigs this way, but I was still not satisfied with my dirty tone.
This is great for those of you out there who are just looking for massive headroom and only play clean, but I didn't work for me. However, I must say the clean on this amp is good, but far from great. It definitely resembles trademark fender clean tone, but I found it to be very brittle and piercing at times.
Overall, I found the natural sound of this amp to be very uninspiring and shallow. There are a few sweet spots on the amp that can produce some decent sounds, but they are few and far between. I would say the clean on this is slightly better than you average solid state fender.
There is also quite a bit of noise and hum when turned on. I found myself playing in the dark and/or leaving the room to try to reduce the hum. The twin seems to react adversely to most any active electronic appliance in the room (including guitar pickups).
Also, any usable volume setting is just way too loud for even a small gig.

I was constantly worried about this amp. Although it never fully broke down on me, it made me really nervous between the humming, the popping sound it always makes when being turned on (which apparently is normal) and just a general inconsistency in sound. The red indicator light burned out after a couple of weeks (also supposedly normal). I used this without a backup, b/c I can't afford another amp, and for the money I paid for this I don't think I should have to depend on one.

Tried calling them a couple of times with questions, but gave up after being on hold for 20 minutes or so. The Mr. Gearhead forum and website is somewhat useful but it would be nice if they gave you an email address for tech support as well. Fender has notoriously bad customer sevice in an industry where customer service should be the #1 priority. As a result, they have lost my business as a customer. I will most likely never buy another fender product. Everything they make is mass produced and over-priced. Why would I buy something else from Fender when there are now so many other great small manufacturers who genuinely want to help their customers make a good decision about the products they sell which are of a better quality and value then fenders.

I am a fool for buying this amp. I bought it because at the time I didn't really know what else was out there besides the big names in the industry. I have been playing guitar for about 15 years, but have always played a lot more acoustic guitar than electric. About a year ago, I found myself playing in a band again and I decided it was time to upgrade my amp to something capable of playing larger gigs. I went down to Sam Ash and pretty much played everything they have in the store. Sadly, this is probably one of the best amps they carry. Not knowing any better I bought it thinking that all the great sounds I was hearing in my head would be realized with a little tweaking and some pedals. I was wrong. I have since realized that tone starts with a great amp, and the mass-produced garbage that you find at Sam Ash and Guitar Center is there to satisfy the customer who wants a name brand like Fender or Marshall and is willing to pay big bucks for it. And then you've got amp makers like Dr. Z and Soldano and others, that have great customer service, great quality control, and honestly do what Fender/Marshall or whomever you want to sound like better than the original ever did and more. These may cost as much or more than your big time name brand ampmaker, but the value of your purchase is so much greater. And that is my BIGGEST complaint with this amp. The value just wasn't there. I would never buy another Twin new. NEVER!!!!!! But if you have to have something that says Fender on it, then you might try picking one up on Ebay for about $600 at most. Maybe then you are are getting a good value for your money. But me, I'm taking my business elsewhere. I rely on this forum a lot for gear purchases, so I hope my opinions will help someone else make a good decision. Feel free to contact me if you have any questions about my experiences with the Twin.

Bought in early '04, built in December of '03. I find this amp to be versatile enought to cover my playing styles which are Blues/Rock. It's got two channels, both clean with four inputs. Both left inputs are slightly "hotter". No channel switching, no effects loop, no headphone jack. It's simple without bells and whistles and has all I need. It's rated at eighty five watts using the stock 6L6 power tubes. Reverb and Vibrato are included on the second channel. Both channels also include a Bright switch.

I use four guitars with this amp: A Les Paul Standard with PAF's,an American Strat with Fat Fifty's in the neck and middle, and a SD '59 in the bridge with a single, parallel, series switch. A Gibson ES135 with PAF's, and an old PRS CE 24 Bolt-on with an "Artist" pu in the bridge position. All sound very good through this amp. Noise is not a problem. For distortion I use an H&K Tube Factor and a Keeley modded Blues Driver which cover everything in my playing style. As far as overall sound quality is concerned, as with all my amps, the first thing I did was change the power tubes. Most manufacturers use "cheaper" tubes and set them "cold" to cover the warranty period they offer with their product. I put in a set of 6L6GE's and adjusted the bias and hum.The sound quality vastly improved. I've also tried KT 66's which to my ears, produces a smoother, "rounder" sound that's great for Blues. The KT's are not as "in your face" as the 6L6's. As with any power tube change, bias adjustment is a must and the Fender owners manual tells you "where", but not how for obvious reasons.

As I learned many years ago, never, never, play any gig without a backup. Tubes are basically mechanical devices in a sense, and they do fail at the worst of times. I own four tube amps and always carry a spare without exception. If you don't have, or can't afford two amps, rent a spare, or borrow a friends. It's just good business practice regardless. I maintain all of my equipment and carry extra everything: picks, strings, cables, fuses, tubes, and amps.

I've been at it for about forty years, and have owned numerous guitars and amps. I've done the "boutique" thing and found that if you like the Fender sound, buy a Fender. The same holds true for Marshall and Vox. I currently own a Vox AC30, Marshall 2203, Marshall Plexi'59, and the Twin. I've owned Acoustic, Boogie, Rivera, and others I can't remember the names of. All did what they were designed to do well, but there's no substitue for the real deal. There's a reason amps designed and built years ago are still around, they sound very good. Mine sounds very close to the one's I remember when I first started playing. Good tone is subjective, and I've found simple is better. This amp produces the best clean sound I've heard, and I build upon that with pedals. I can cover everything from Buddy Holly, AC/DC, Beatles, to ZZTop, and pretty much everything in between. Again, the key to versatility here is through using good quality pedals. I'd buy it again, and may buy another just to have in case.

This amp has a lot of features for the time period it was from, but not as packed as a modern amp... 2 clean channels, w/ reverb and vibrato in number 2. Very powerful, and really, unless you are into industrial metal or something... simple is better.

I play blues with a Tele and a Les Paul. Classic Fender clean... very bright, sparkly and clear. Doesn't break up early like other Blackfaces... but this is what I wanted. It seems an amp with a drive channel always lacks in one channel. I had some trouble finding an overdrive that sounded good with this... a lot I tried ended up being too fuzzy and thin. I'm not gonna give away the guy I had build the pedal I use, he's not really famous, but he's a straight up genius. All I can tell you is if you want a good overdriven sound with a Twin, go high end, don't settle for some Tubescreamer if you can afford a little more and go with a really great pedal(boutique seems to be the term nowadays). This amp is extremely loud, but with enough trial and error on the settings, you can play a small venue and still get great tone.

Great value, pretty close to the original for far less money. I put in a review when I first got it, to clear up some of the complaints on here. I'll reiterate and say this is a very specific amp for a specific purpose. I doesn't have all the new features, it isn't made to break up easily, it is very loud. But if you want pure, clean sound... check this one out.

1996 Reissue Model
I play a little of everything. Progressive, Blues, Jazz, Rock.
2 channels (Dry, Reverb/Vibrato), 2 sets of inputs.
I played one at a Guitar Center that had a Master Volume. I have thought about getting one installed in mine, but for now the costs are too much. I will in the future if I keep this amp for the long haul. I took out 2 of the power tubes in order to be able to turn up and get a little breakage at a lower volume.

I play through a Gibson Les Paul Standard and a Vintage Fender Strat.
From there, I go through a Black Cat OD-1, an Ibanez Super Tubes, Dunlop Crybaby, and a Boss Compression/Sustainer. I had to tweak with the two overdrive pedals to get a good sound, but I think for now I am happy. Goes from heavenly clean to menacingly dirty. I'm not a fan of huge fuzzy tone, but with the pedals set how they are, I'm quite pleased. I use one at a time (Ibanez for smooth, OD-1 for brighter) and then I'll occasionally toss in the other for all-out war.

So far it's good. Bought it used from a guy who got it as a graduation present in 1996. A few months later he took up bass, and it sat in his house. I bought it in 2003, so it had sat for a while, but I have had no problems.

Been playing 5 years, as stated before I own Gibson LP Standard, Vintage Fender Strat, various pedals.
I don't necessarily like having the pedals. It's not much, but I would like more of a simplistic overdriven amp (Orange is atop my list, but I'm not made of money).

2-12 jensen speakers...85 watts!!
Only 2 clean channels - one totally clean (Normal channel) ; and the other clean with tremolo and/or reverb (Vibrato channel).
You can turn your sound brighter with a bright switch also on the amp (impossible to do this with the footswitch..footswitch only for reverb or/and tremolo)!
All the other normal knobs on both channels - Volume, Treble, Middle, Bass
No loop effects on it!

I play my usa standard tele thru this baby! hmmmm...it just sounds awesome..BEST CLEAN sound i ever played..wich is my style by the way..on the moods of Mr Jeff Buckley!
It's a classic amp...i just love it...great tone for cleans..bass knob very impressive( you turn it and it turns bass as it should)
Love it's reverb..sweet(sometimes could get a bit noisy, normal stuff)
No distortion as i mentioned above, altough you can still use your pedals thru it...it will sound great(you gotta choose well your pedals if you don't got the tone you want)
Ohhhh...and this thing speaks loud...very loud, and still with a fantastic sound..wow

This amp was made in 2003. It has two non-switchable channels. Each channel has a high and low input jack w/typical fender bright switches in each channel. It also has reverb and vibrato. The reverb is great! very powerfull. but the vibrato seems to lack balance. Its either too intense or to fast. Its hard, but not impossible to find the happy medium. Overall has everything that a clean amp should have. If metal is your bag, then just ad an ds1 or metal zone.

I play an American standard series strat and an epiphone les paul. I cant get a breakup when i play the strat, but the epiphone gives me the nice zep'ish light breakup. This amp is very quiet w/ almost no hiss. It has the nicest cleans that i have ever heard. Sometimes i play it through my 1960A cab, that increases the balls of this amp 10x when adding a disto pedal.

I use a Les Paul and a Tele with Fralin pups for blues. I've only had this a few days, I will follow up on this later, but I wanted to make something clear for others. There have been a lot of complaints about this amp. As for reliability, I don't know yet. But for tone, I want to say it is great. Sounds like an old Twin, or as close as it gets with a new amp, I've played real Blackfaces of all types, and it is reasonably close. But I see people bitching about it not breaking up, some say it breaks up too early, it is too bright, lack of character, etc. First off, this is the epitomy of a CLEAN AMP. If you need drive, get a Deluxe, it breaks up easily, get a good OD pedal, or a 2 channel amp ( Preferably a good pedal). Too bright? It's a FENDER. They are usually a little brighter than some amps. If it lacks "character", maybe hiding behind distortion and 50 pedals is your thing, or your playing lacks character. You don't buy this amp for certain things. It is a CLEAN amp. If you want dirt, you need to find an amp with an drive channel, or use an OD to drive this one. I wanted great clean tone first and formost. This is why I got a twin. The only pedal I use is an OD pedal... there's my breakup right there. Mybe some of these amps have problems and do break up early... crap happens... but they are not meant to. What I am saying is... is you want great clean tones... and you do not mind using a good qaulity OD to get dirt onece in a while... this is a terrific choice. If you want a million features, or early breakup... look elsewhere. This amp is made for a purpose, and hopefully my rambling clears it up for some of you.

plenty of reviews on this amp...the only reason i'm posting is to help others like me.....i've been searching for so long for all "the tones". i was convinced the only way was to buy a lot of quality tube amps cause they are all different. i stayed away from the twin reverb b/c i've heard it countless times on record, and in live situations from other bands. i also owned several 65 deluxe reverbs which i thought were just lower watt twins. boy was i wrong. i finally got a twin because it was a good deal....i can get any tone i want as long as i use the appropriate pedal. i can go from johnny winter to black label society with no problem...talk about extremes....speaking of extreme i tweaked enough to find nuno bettencourt's sound as well. i just sold 2 marshall 800's, a fender tone master, a marshall jubilee, and a soldano head.....don't need'em anymore. this amp is a freakin' chameleon as long as you use pro gear...not mass produced crap effects in the signal chain.

I'd like to address some of the reviews bashing this amp, and hopefully convince others to check this amp out. i went to the store with the cash in hand to buy a bogner shiva, and left with the twin. I know, the bogner would be most people's first choice, but the twin had a bit more haractor than the bogner, and it had more headroom on the clean channel. I tried this amp out in the store, in a quiet room, with my two teles, one with ab-bender, and the other with humbuckers, both equipped with bill lawrence pickups, and this amp screams with both guitars. I also played a strat and a les paul standard through both channels, and they too sounded great.
I'd owned a 72 twin with a master volume a few years ago, and sold it because I wanted more gain, I know stupid mistake, but I thought the reissue couldn't sound as good as my old 72, but I was wrong. This thing rocks!! There is more than enough headroom on the reissue, and if you could ever get it loud enough to break up, you'd better be in the next room, cause it's extremely loud. Any 100 wat tube amp is gonna be loud enough for anyone, I don't care who you are.
Once ai got it home, I retubed it with JJ power tubes, and some Nos preamp tubes, and it sounds even better than before. I guess I was just tired of reading these reviews that bashed this amp for being non-feature ladden, and not loud enough. Lastly, I don't think the PC board construction inside should even be a factor in the rating of this amp. Bottom line is, most things electronic are gonna have some pc boards inside, and if not, you're going to pay 3000 bucks for them, so if it doesn't sound any worse with the boards, why not use them, to bring the cost of production down, and save the consumer a couple of bucks.

Just for reference, I'm using the following:
Two american teles, boss V-wah, boss od3, AB switch, with side A going into the left channel of the twin, via a H and K rotospheere, and a lexicon reverb. Side B goes to a fulltone fd2, akai phaser, carl martin delayluh, and a boomerang. I can cover all my blues, jazz or funk with this amp. i use the amp at least twice a week, playing weddings and bar gigs up and down the west coast. I really urge people to check this amp out, and if you're looking for a big, fat clean sound, then noghing beats the TWIN.

Made in '91, stock blackface a good clean sounding amp. Thats when I went to work, replacing the output trans with a Kendrick 40212A unit. What a differance but i wasnt finished. Next came the Kendrick blackframe speakers, nos rca 6l6gcs and nos preamp tubes.I also installed a Hicks mender channel switching module for overdrive using the normal channal.A trick for blues players that have the module is to use a lower gain preamp tube in the normal channel. This doesnt affect your clean sound and gives you a nice boost that is foot switchable.

I use a 1960 strat and 1965 ES125 fatbody cutaway with 2 p90s playing mostly traditional blues texas style and swing. This amp is a monster with both guitars but best with the old stat.I set the boost channel volume on 8 and the vibrato channel volume on 4 and its very nice. You cant compare a reguler twin reissue or a silverface twin with this brute. My buddy has 2 real blacface twins and they are sweeter, but this is the most unique sounding twin ive ever heard.

Dear Billy Jackson: I am an ex-Nashville session player and concur with your comments below on the venerable "The Twin" as opposed to the solid state+tube mongrel infamous "Evil Twin." Both live and session players seek the high headroom clean first then the dirt. Modern wannabees seem to go for the recto buzz dirt first then the jc-120 clean second ... and it all boils down to ears, ears, ears and signature tone sadly missing from anything in the media today since the Seattle music revolution that killed rock radio ... they never seem to survive very long in this business other than their 15 mins of fame from their last crappy album that sounds like everybody else's on alternate TV and radio crappy albums. It is like a nightmare karaoke world in hell where everybody now is a professional musician, but nobody can play or sing, and it has become a tone deaf world and industry ... So my critique here is NOT directed toward the spoiled brats with an endless cash flow who can afford to buy every amp and guitar on the market sitting in their dens and bedrooms at home, who never play beyond bedroom volumes, and who have not made a penny in the past 15 years playing anywhere because they suck and cant get a gig ... I AM DIRECTING MY COMMENTS TO THE WORKING MUSICIAN!
I learned many years ago from Steve Howe of Yes that a dual twin setup covers all the bases. It's simply a matter of ABY'ing into both channels, with ch 2 for all clean (+/-) tremolo/reverb, and channel 1 for your dirt slammed by pedal(s) of choice. The higher the headroom of the amp, the better the pedals sound thru it. Then the speakers of choice make all the output difference. For my dual twins in 1x12 configuration for smaller venues I use JBL D120Fs exclusively, and when I play outdoor concert venues, I run the dual combos into two custom 4x12s with G12H80s on top and D120Fs on the bottoms. This is diametrically opposed to younger players who are stymied by the idea of maximum breakup as quickly a possible by using G12-30V+G12H30 combinations ... then they complain why their notes are mushed, and why they cant be heard in the mix, and why it sounds buzzy, and why they can never find the tone they are looking for etc., etc., etc., ad nausea... It is the line 6 screwed up ears syndrome that plagues this nation and music industry ... sadly, the majority of producers and players today would not know good tone if you rammed it up their butts on the tip of a scud missile!
In my case I use Keeley modded pedals exclusively, five to be exact, Vintage Rat, TS10, BD2, SD1, and DS1 Ultra. This covers every dirty tone from high headroom topaz ruby, to dumble, to 70s-80s plexi, to 90s modded marshall, to SRV blue, to fusion to anything/everything else in between. My signal path is guitar direct into a Carl Martin Compressor, into a 535Q Wah into my five Keeley pedals into dual Boss FV300H stereo pedals split into dual Fender Twin channels 1 and 2. For efx and spatial imaging I keep it simple, MXR 90 into MXR M117 into Boss DD3 into Boss CH5 into Carl Martin Delayla, Into Carl Martin Chorus XII. So my volume is stage controlled by two FV300Hs for Carltonesque swells as well as stage volume control and boosts for dual Twin dual amp channels. Channel 1 of the dual twins can be totally dry, or with reverb, or with analog or digital delay and chorus. It is marvelous.
Here's some free advice to younger players:
1. I recently did a demo of the new Mesa Lone Star 1x12. I ran it straight 1x12, then into a Marshall 4x12 G12-30V, then into the venerable THD 2x12, then into a Bogner 4x12 (12-30V/12-75), and guess what? It is $1700 upgrade of what is already a perfect high headroom amp: "The Twin!" So you can go and buy two used ones on eBAY for less that the price of a new Lone Star, or just buy two brand new reissues from GC with the cover-all warranty.
2. (KISS) KEEP IT SIMPLE STUPID. Stop listening to what you guitar heroes are saying, and st

2003 or 04 model that I bought new. I had considered getting one cheaper off ebay, but the one in the store sounded so good and everything on it worked, so I spent the extra couple of bucks on a new one.
Feature wise, I'll give it points for the built-in tremolo and great reverb, which by the way is all tube driven. Functionality wise, it is two channels, but it's funny that both channels do the same, except for the clean and reverb on channel 2. I hardly ever use channel 1 for anything. This amp has the vintage style footswitch with two buttons for activating and de-activating the reverb and trem.
4 6L6s and 6 preamp tubes, the newer re-issues have 2 Jensen CK12 speakers, long tail reverb, and that great blackface tone.
Considering this is a '65 reissue, I am sure this was referred to as very feature rich in 1965. But, since it is 2004 and effects loops, multi-channels, high-gain, etc. etc. this amp would be considered by many to be way out of date as far as features are concerned. However, since 1965, the music world has also invented guitar pedals that give you more variety over lots of built-in guitar preamps, and strikingly absent is another manufacturer to truly capture this amp's brilliant clean sound.
PS: To answer the next to last bullet point, there is PLENTY of power! And I use this amp everywhere all the time.

In reading the person's review below, I noticed he commented about his Twin breaking up after 4. I don't find this to be the case with any of my guitars. Even with a Les Paul with pretty hot pickups, I get loud clean. I've got boost and overdrive pedals that might cause it to breakup slightly, but I haven't experienced any trouble getting all the clean headroom I need when I want it. He may have super hot pickups or some kind of signal booster in his pedal chain, or he may have a defective amp, because I have never experienced my Twin or anyone else's that breaks up at 4. But, if he's happy with it, then good for him.
This sound is the sound I've been after in my head for years. I've had many, many amps with supposedly "Fender Clean" with a wicked overdriven channel, and while all of the overdrive channels have been great, the cleans always had something missing. Either I was running out of headroom, or I'd get bright harshness with different guitars. If not that, I'd get a decent clean, but would have to tweak the amp every time I changed guitars. So, after being boutiqued out and tired of trying to find the "fender/marshall" amp in one, I decided to go with an amp that had my most important sound, which is the blackface clean sound. I've found by using different overdrive and distortion pedals, I have more versatility than even the most gadgeted amp I previously owned. And best of all, there is no tweaking! Just plug your guitar in, enjoy the great sound, and step on a pedal if you want some dirt. I've also found if I want Marshall, but not all of the time, a Marshall pedal works splendidly. So, for great clean, along with an occasional Angus Young mood, I'll step on my Jackhamer and to my ears, I'm quite happy.
This is the best sounding amp I have ever owned. The snobs with the Alnicos and their 4 speakers complaining about the Twin being sterile and too loud are just stupid. I a/bed all the reissue blackfaces, the tweeds and the Vibro King. Only the Twin offered my the clean headroom I was looking for. It also had the least amount of compression and sounded best with the largest variety of guitars without having to tweak the preamp. Warm, smooth and clean. Very nice indeed!

From many people who have play a long, long time, I understand these are very reliable. Mine has been, with the exception of having to swap out the reverb tank upon getting it home for the first time. I've also noticed with most Fender reissue amps, there is a loud popping noise when you go from standby to full on power. It doesn't appear to hurt anything, and I've noticed it with just about every Fender I've played. However, it's still a loud pop and I suspect it isn't great for the speakers. Don't know for sure though.

Never had to deal with them because the folks at Corner Music in Nashville are so good. If I've ever had a problem with anything, they ususally just take care of it and I don't have to worry about anyting else. That's another reason I bought this new and not off ebay. In additon, the new Fender rep for Tennessee is a great guy. For my business, he sent me a nice letter and golf shirt, which I really appreciate! Hard to get better support than that.

Funny because most people say "this 'aint your daddy's amp/guitar/etc." but this is your daddy's amp. And you know what? In my opinion, it's still the best sounding clean amp I've ever heard. There is an unexplainable warmth that accompanies the clean without muddying up or breaking up. I haven't used a guitar with this amp that sounds bad. I have a strat, asat classic, les paul, p90 guitar and 335, and they all sound great. Best of all is I don't have to touch the preamp. Unlike many who comment on the Twins stinginess with pedals, I've had great success using a Fulldrive2, HAO Rumble Mod and a Marshall Jackhamer to get a wide variety of overdriven sounds. I've also had no problems playing this amp at low volumes and getting a terrific sound. I originally thought without an effects loops, my phasor and delay would sound noisy, but since the overdrive pedals are before the modulation, I don't notice any problems with using either the phasor or delay. I sold my Voodoo Lab Tremolo in anticipation of using the built in tremolo, and while it's good, I think the Voodoo Lab pedal is more versatile and sounded just as good as the tube driven trem. But, it's not a pedal I used that much anyway, so it's no big deal, and it gave me more room on my pedalboard for a couple more overdrive pedals.
I truly love this amp. I go into my room late at night to turn my lamp off, and end up playing through my Twin for another hour. Sleep deprived, but sonically satisfied, you can't go wrong starting with the ultimate clean and adding some dirt via pedals. That's much easier than starting with a high-gain amp and trying to clean it up. I'd say for the money Fender is asking, compaired to all the "boutique amps" that have neat tolex and grilles, this amp is a great bargain for the money. Go out and try one. You might like it.

My gear was made in 1997. Not much versatility but this is not what I seak. I bought this amp because of the built-in tremolo and the fat sound. I always plug the guitar in the vibrato channel and I use the normal channel for the voice mike when I play in small clubs not equipped with a PA. For this purpose it's OK in sofar as the Twin is a clean gear and the channels work independently from each other. The problem of this amp is the weight and it fucks up my back.

I play a Gretsch Setzer Hot Rod 2001 with Filtertron pickups. Mostly Roots-Rock, Rockabilly, Country and Blues. I play with a Fender Tele '52 reissue with Texas Special pickups. I use a Hughes & Kettner Replex for the slapback. This effect contains a gain unit and a 12AX7 tube that allows overdrive and can act as just an overdrive unit if you turn off the echo effect. Distortion is a matter of perception but my amp begins to distort at a volume of 4 (with the pickups mentioned forely) and that suits my style perfectly (a kind of swamp fat muddy twang with a southern feel) although I usually play between a volume of 2 and 3. I set the treble between 6 and 8 (if you set it relatively high, comes a slight nice overdrive) as well as the mid. For the bass, it depends on where I play: I set it low at home (less than 5 because of the neighbourhood) and high when I play live (up to 10 when I play as a solo act without a bass player). Round and warm tremolo (I set the speed to 5 and the intensity to 8). If you are a kind of Setzer player, you can create some feedback with a hollow-body axe (very controllable feedback). This amp doesn't offer a wide range of sounds but I have my own sound that I don't change. I just had to find an amp that could put out the unique exact sound I wanted.

Perfect for a fat twang tone. May slightly distort but depends on the output of your pickups. My sound is actually a combination of the Filtertrons (or Texas Special Tele pickups that sound almost the same), the Replex and the Twin and that's the combinations that suits my Holy Grail of Sound. Perfect for a roots-rock sound where you may need some slight overdrive, real twang and meat(if you can't get OD by turning up the volume, get an external tube-driven unit). This amp gives the definition and the fatness I need for my playing. In some situations, you can mike vocals with this amp without having an incidence on the guitar sound. Sometimes I also plugged a harp, a voice and a guitar in that same gear.
Looks vintage with the black face.

2001 Twin reissue. Bought brand new that same year. If you're looking for a multi-channel digital effects-switching high gain amp, look elsewhere. If you are looking for a clean, powerful amp with unadulterated tone as fat as anna-nicole before trim spa, this is the amp for you. two channels, but as far as I'm concerned it has one. Who buys a twin REVERB to use the dry channel? This amp is not totally true to the original design as fender will have you believe. The originals had tube rectifiers, and the reissues do not. Plenty of tube power and tone from the 6L6 power section though.

I play a combo of blues and funk based jazz, and this amp is the perfect choice. I always believe that good tone starts with the cleanest signal possible, and the twin is the cleanest amp you will find. This amp is used with an american strat and an Ibanez AS-120 semi hollow and produces great results with either. Other than swithching settings to accomodate each guitars different output, getting a good sound is simple. How can you go wrong with Volume, Treble, Middle, Bass, Reverb and Trem controls? As simple and direct as it gets. This amp will never leave you drowned out on stage. It is a loud 85 watts and when cranked to 4 for up to 6 hours will not break up. It will run hot to the touch though. If you want an overdriven or distorted sound you will need to rely on an external device. I recommend the original Marshall Bluesbreaker pedal, not the crappy BB-2, a pitiful excuse for an update.

This is where the trouble starts. I am a regularly gigging musician, and the twin is a working man's amp. At about a thousand bucks, this amp should work every time, all the time. Well this wasn't the case. About six months after purchase, a horrible racket came out of the amp mid-gig. Hoping it was a tube issue, changed the tubes but to no avail, the sound persisted. After opening the amp and isolating the sound occuring when striking low bass notes on the guitar, It was discovered that a bundle of capacitors on the PC board were being ratttled. Simply solved by putting a cable tie around them to hold them tight and resoldering the connections. I would reccomend that anyone with this amp resolder Fenders sloppy factory job. Simple opperation that a dealer would rip you off for after holding your amp for 3 weeks. About a year later both of the 12" eminence, not jensen factory installed speakers were blown. This amp was never played louder than 4. Installed 150 watt eminence beta's. Lastly, the speaker cable running from the jack to the speakers is awfully cheap looking (probably 18 or 20 gauge) for a thousand dollar amp, and runs very close to the hot power tubes. Why skimp on such a little, but crucial part of the amp? Not the most dependable amp I ever owned, but tube amps are high-maintnence, and I gig with it regularly as it is the best sounding amp I ever owned.

Have not dealt directly with fender, and I hope I never have to. I have heard awful things, and I'm sure the pimply-faced kid on the recieving end of the 800 number doesn't really care if my amp broke down in the middle of a gig. Their job is to tell you where you should bring it to get serviced. I can do that on myself. Only good thing is it has a 5 year warranty, and you will probably have to use it at-least once if your twin is like mine.

I give this amp an 8. It has the tone and feel of a vintage tube amp, not to mention it's one of the nicest amps to look at. Just looking at it makes me want to plug in and play. I would replace this amp if lost or stolen, but if your stupid enough to let that happen you shouldn't own an amp this nice to begin with. If replaced, I would hope my luck would be better at finding one that was assembled better on the assembly line.

This reissue is not exactly a wealth of features. However, I imagine if you are buying it you know that and if you want lots of digital signal processing or some other garbage to make you sound like matchbox 20 you would buy a line 6 amplifier or the like. It essentially has two amps in one. Why? I think to make it heavier....I am not sure. The first channel is clean, the second has vibrato and reverb operated by a foot switch. You can plug intruments into both, but I don't recommend it. They use the same power tubes and you end up with a much weaker sound. To sum up, this amp is not filled with features, but that is not why you would buy it. Further, a ton of features just detract from the sound as far as I am concerned.

I use two guitars and the amp behaves differently and beautifully with both. The first is a Gibson ES hollowbody. I can play clean with this guitar, or feed it through an overdrive I use two blues drivers with it occasionally. Playing clean this amp will not distort at any volume. Seriously. I have turned it up to the point where the volume is painful and still it is the perfect clean tone. It has a great ring to it and a full rich sound. The only complaint is that with too much distortion there is a decent amount of feedback. This is probably more the guitar's fault than the amp.
I also play an epiphone SG copy that I have modified with aftermarket p-90 pickups. This does fantastic things with this amplifer. It makes the perfect vintage tube growl. The clean tone is edgy on its own, but not overdriven. Every note cuts through (I play in a group with three guitars, it takes a lot to cut through). Adding a big muff or an MXR distortion before the amp for a bit of fuzz gives you a perfect 70's punk tone (think Television)
The one complaint I have is not at all the fault of the amp. It is a serious pain in the ass to find overdrive or distortion that augments the great tone of this amp and does not overpower it. I would suggest thinking along the lines of high end fuzz pedals and avoiding anything without true bypass, or any digital processing. Never try to use any kind of tube preamp...it is not worth it (mesa boogie bottle rocket and v twin make it sound like crap)

As you can probably assume from the previous section I love this amp.
The only problem I had was the lead going to the vibrato switch came loose. It took about 35 seconds to resolder it.
However I have heard horror stories. Chaulk it up to fender's dubious reliability during this era. If you get a good one you will love it, but I guess there are lemons out there. Try it before you buy.

For glassy clean sounds this amp can't be beat. You have to crank it to about 6 to get it to break up at all, and even then it's just a very slight overdrive. But at 6 you better be about 2 rooms away unless you wanna go deaf. This is a LOUD amplifier.
The reverb is beautiful. IMO it's the reverb that all others are based upon. The tremelo (vibrato) is nice too...great for surfing music.

Been playing about 17 years. My main setup is Fat Strat Texas Special > Analog man chorus > Phase 90 > Visual Sound Jekyll & Hyde overdrive > Twin reverb. I also play my ovation mandolin through this amp and it sounds great.
Fender amps have a sound of their own. Yes, it's clean, but it has it's own distinct "glassy" quality to it that I love.
If you want amp distortion, forget it. You have to run a pedal with this fellow. But don't you a crappy one...this thing sounds so clean it'll expose a cheapo pedal. I recommend a Rat, Tubescreamer, or if you like options a dual overdrive like a Fulltone or a Jekyll & Hyde like I use. They all sound great through this. And when you want your clean channel to shine...there's no equal.

Ah - the twin sound - it will never break up. This amp is very quiet. I did change the power tubes as I was getting an intermittent "thin" sound. The amp would lack depth -- but only sometimes. The power tubes made quite a difference. Also, one must allow a good deal of time for break-in of this amp -- it does sound better the more it is played. Freakin' Loud and HEAVY.
I play mostly blues and rock using a G&L Legacy (If your thinking od buying a Strat, you MUST check one of these guitars out). I did have a hell of a time finding an overdrive/distortion box that would sound good with this amp. I have a ts9dx, which is just ok, a vintage DOD overdrive/preamp, which sounds too bright, a Banzai Cold Fusion which just doesn't work with this amp ( too nasal-y), a Boss DS1, which sounds too cheesy, and finally stumbled on a Marshall Guvnor plus, which sounds heavenly with this amp. (go figure!)
The volume this amp can produce is amazing - it'll shake your internal organs and turn them to mush.

I've been playing on and off for about 25 years - mostly Fender-y stuff. This is a great sounding amp, just take the time to understand that it is not the amp for everyone. The power of this amp can be unwieldy at times - you will NEVER need to turn this amp past 5, unless you're a punk kid, or play REALLY large rooms. And if you are a young'in, you'd better not complain about the weight! You'll take a while to find the right pedals for this amp, too. However, the amp runs so clean, that you will really be able to tell the differences between pedals; there's no gain with this amp to mask them.
The clean sound of this amp is simply the best - I've not seen, played, demo'd or listened to an amp that has a better clean sound, and that gives you a great base in which to add decent effects pedals.

I play professionally now for about 3 or 4 years. I usually play with teles or a a hollowbody. The big drawback for me is it weighs a lot. I think it weighs about 70 pounds. I'm currently looking for a smaller amp that will break up a little easier.

New 2003 85watts jensen special design 12inch speakers. This amp is great for country clean, 50's and 60's rock n roll and with a good boost pedal, blues where you need to be loud! The jensen speakers are a real plus as they are warm and my first immpression in the store hooked to a Boss Blues driver was good! I play country and blues and it is well suited for both! The price is a bit steep but I guess everything else is too! It is two channels with nice retro reverb and vibrato for that Duane Eddy sound, with a Gretch guitar of course! It rules for blues when volume is needed and it cuts through everybody else and has nice balanced tone and works well with the overdrive pedals. I use a 56 Strat and a 54 Tele and I have no problem getting tone! A fat Les Paul will bite and break up nicely too! I play in clubs and it is the ideal amp for blues and country and I have not had any problems with it yet! I have used mostly twins in my thirty plus years and two hooked together are the rig to die for! I also use super reverbs and Deville four tens and never have trouble getting tone. Hook a fender guitar to a fender amp and you must sound good! Old Leo knew what he was doing! It is only a matter of loudness as to which model you use with the Twin being the loudest! Half the tone is in the amp and the other half comes from your picking hand! The Twin gives you all the subtle nuances of your attack and with a good overdrive pedal will let you sing the blues and with the right tele pick as clean as country water! Good treble mid and bass and the reverb is classic fender and same with vibrato!

Sounds are pure guitar tone and fairly quiet with hum balance adjustment and it makes the same noise as a real 60's blackface. All of which are nothing to concern yourself about. Just plug it in turn it on and play and be heard! I set it on a minimum of 5 and go from there and it is fairly clean at high volume but with the right pedal will give you a nice crunch!

It is brand new and so far it is working but from years of experience I know it is wise to ALWAYS have a back-up rig as well as extra tubes and fuses! I take care of my gear and dont let others play it at gigs or jams and if you treat it right, it will treat you right. Fender amps have always given me good performance and this one seems to follow the tradition too. I have nothing but good memories when I have used fender amps through out the years. Good sound good tone and good reliability.

Fender support is good if you talk to the people with respect and be polite! The only downside is that the nearest authorized repair shop is thirty miles away and they dont service you first if you didnt by the fender from them! Too bad because they are the only ones with a good service tech who knows what he is doing! It is a five year warranty with the tubes having a ninety day warranty and the speakers one year, which is good in my book! I had a problem with a stage 112se solid state once and they built me a new one with the problem rectified. Inherent high frequency occillation. A technical design flaw and they gave me the number for the amp designer who listened to my problem and acknowledged it and corrected it!

Been playing pro for thirty plus years I own lots of fender amps and if my new twin was stolen I would get another one. It sounds warmer than my silver face 135 watt 70's twin because of the Jensen reissue speakesr probably, I love the tone but hate the weight! I chose it because I like the sound and it is nice and shiny and clean looking! I am going to get another one to hook up to this one!

This is a 65 reissue 85 watt (2003, in it's time the fact that it had vibrato was way cool. So I can't really compare it to todays modeling amps. So I gave it an 8. The features are not an issue for me. I wanted a simple good tube amp for Reggae, after owning a Cyber Twin, this was the answer for me.Ues it at gigs and some practice. Cuts through all the dunb shit on stage when it needs to , very nice. Usually run it at 5 , has one master volume channel..nice, I like that, turn it up a little and become the clearest loudest instrument in the band.Love gettting back to a tube amp,Love tubes, Love tubes, can't say enough about that.

I use a Gibson Standard and a studio. I play Reggae. It is the perfect bell tone I want and need. No noise out the amp or guitar, no buzzing ground probs at all. The amp is pretty straight forward, if you want to play metal , look at other amps. I does fine for me on leads . I use a BOSS DE-50, (was able to use that in 5 min) SOunds great after you play with it. Stays clean up tell about 7 or 8 pon my amp and then it is still not dirty sounding. Need a pedal for distortion.

It is loud also, great for gigs.I don't hate anything about it.I basically am very happy with this amp. I finally after yrs, have found the setup I like . The 65 Twin and my Les Paul Standard and the Boss GE 55. They are all simple to use and do a great job.

This part of the review is easy enough, below is where it gets rocky. I like sound of it alot. I think it's best with humbuckers or naturally hotter pick-ups. My strat is little weak with all that clean head room. I played '62 Fender Bassman that was stolen from me for the last 8 years and this has more clean headroom and is a lot louder if you can believe it. I like bright and well defined upper-mids and treb. If you're playing the right guitar (a Guild Starfire in my case) it over-drives nicely starting at 3 1/2. It's loud a that point already. (On my strats and silver tone I have to go significantly higher.) At 5 it's pretty broken up. It doesn't really get much louder after 6, just further broken up and brasher in the trebs. But it's as loud as a Vox AC-30 or Roland JC 120...which is freaking loud. I play in a loud bands though. Modern rock, space rock, indi rock etc. It's pretty good all things considering. My only complaint is that the over drive get a bit "shushy" in the mid range above 4. Not muddy, just not crisp and defined. A full 6 string chord played thru nice and hard on an AC-30 and you'll hear each string fully. On this amp, they aren't. Still pretty good though, better than 90% of the amps in the same market.
The Vibrato is standard but I like standard fender vibrato.
The reverb is tank reverb which sounds retro and sweet.

Hear I am, another of the upsets piling on. The only reason I write this is because I have a foolish notion that someone at Fender is going to accept the challange and the responsiblity of remaking the company into something like it once was. I had a 62' bassman that I gigged the shit out of for 8 years and only needed to change tubes a few times and have re-coned once. I had '74 Twin that a band mate used for 5 years (and used hard), every freaking night with out a single incident. I have lots of friends with older fender equipment that has lasted and served well. Unfortunately, it looks like those days are over. My amp died in THE FIRST HOUR OF USE! I swapped it out and now this one seems to be having an issue and she's not a week old. I came here to see if there was a patern and low-and-behold there is. I thought when I saw these re-issues that Fender might be on the right tack again. After years of laughingly bad sounding amps I though maybe they understood their market better. That there is a group over the age of 15 and under the age of 40 that know what "good fender sound" is. I fully believe that Fender is capable good design, good production and good QC. Unfortunately it's not evident in this amp and this amp is made to appeal to people that know the old stuff. I'm taking it back and I'm not sure I'm going to get a fender again...not a new one anyway. I'm going to look around. LISTEN UP FENDER - THIS IS YOUR BOTTOM LINE SPEAKING, YOUR LOST REVENUE, YOUR EX-LOYALISTS and LOST FUTURE CUSTOMERS SPEAKING - YOU CAN PLAY THE NUMBERS AND SELL CRAP AND TAKE LOSSES ON THE MARGINS IN THE SHORT RUN BUT WITH A FLEEING CUSTOMER BASE AND AN INFORMED FUTURE POTENTIAL CUSTOMER BASE, THIS IS GOING TO CATCH UP WITH YOU. You lost a lot of money with me in this transaction (two amps and no $$$ to show for it) but what should worry you more is that I'm not coming back to you any time soon and I'm talking about it here for potentially thousands of others to see. DIG? There are other companys and other products and as a working musician I can not afford to stake my hard work and sweat on a product from a company that is no longer serious about manufacturing fine sounding, quality, DEPENDABLE products. I know that there are people who work at Fender who can take up the mantle but will they?

Too Bad. It really did sound pretty good. I thought I might have a new heavy use road amp but I just can't trust this amp. If you get a good one maybe you'll have no issues but just thinking "maybe" all the time during a big show is enough for me to have to move on. The 1st one died mid-song mid practice. This new one's volume is jumping around in the middle of songs. Nope - no can do.

It's a 2002. I give an 8 for "features" because we now live in a world "modeling" and "digital signal processing (DSP)" amplifiers and this is not one of those. But for what it is, a reissue of classic, it still has some nice features including the great Fender reverb and vibrato (really tremelo) and pull bright switch. It has no master volume, yaaay!

I use primarily Fender Strats. The genius of Fender is that he matched the guitars to the amps, so sez Keith Richards in Guitar World a few months ago, and I agree. I play surf and Chet and this amp excells in both domains. This is not a distortion amp. This is a clean amp. So why not buy an 85 watt solid state amp? Answer: Because this tube amp puts out a much more powerfull 85 watts and makes the solid states sound wimpy. It will give you nice punchy bass for your thumbpick. There is no break-up until you've got the volume way too loud.

I waited a year to write this review and have had no problems with dependability through a number of gigs and rehearsals. I have made no modifications to the amp, and haven't spilled any beer on it or rolled it across rough terrain so it's treating me nice as well. I feel safe without a back-up.

The '65 Twin reissue is cheaper than the latest Super Reverb reissue which I don't understand, it's a good value. I do have the Super from the early 90's for smaller rooms. I also have a Twin Reverb II (Paul Rivera's design) which has my favorite distortion sound (but then I'm not into 80's metal).
What I hate about any Twin is the weight.

foot pedal for reverb and vibrato.
85 watts!! loud amp!! I never go past 4. clean the way clean should be. I hear everything from my guitar even the wood.!!
I use an Ibanez tube screamer for distortion and get great tone

If you crank it all the way or up there you'll get some distortion
from the tubes, but this is a clean amp,buy a pedal if need be or
soldano.
reverb sounds great!! lots of range.same witth the vibrato which again sounds like a tremolo and really is one.
some of the hum remarks in other peoples ratings can be adjusted
if you read the owners manuel it tells you how to adjust the hum out of the amp by inserting a screwdriver underneath in to the right hole
and turning it to dial out the hum.
This amp doesn't hum. pure clean!

Clean is outstanding (I'd give it a 10), if you want crunch or distortion however, you need either a great pedal (and I mean a $200-$300 one) or a band that doesn't mind you playing LOUD AS HELL (see below).

Look, if you want clean, this is a great amp. I play a DeArmond semi-hollow with DeMarzio soapbar pick-ups through various effect pedals. I play Blues, classic rock and country as well as Jam Band stuff and Jazz. For clean, sparkly tones this amp is great. I played a '70s Deluxe Reverb in a shop and its cleans were definitly warmer and thicker with absolutely no effects (guitar plus amp) but the twin is a great amp as well. Not as warm but clearer and louder and when the tubes warm up it sings--if without the character of a true, hand-wired (pre-'80s) DR.
My problem however, and the reason I sold my Twin, is that it was difficult to get Stones, or ZZ Top-like Blues crunch or distortion without it being all trebly and LOUD, LOUD, LOUD. I tried a Boss Blues Driver and then an Ibanez Tube Screamer and I could not get the tones I wanted unless I was LOUD AS GOD HIS/HER SELF! My band would yell at me every freaking rehearsal about it. Make no mistake, the clean tones were exceptional and manageable at low and mid volume (think BB King), but I simply could not get a non-trebly crunch without blowing the room out. For large gigs (which I've never played) this amp would be fine because Mick or whomever would be standing 80 feet from the amp, but in a bar or club this amp is just too loud unless you're only looking for clean tones in which case I would highly recommend this amp. If you play Blues, country, classic rock, etc, I'd look for a '70s Fender Deluxe which can be overdriven at relatively low volume. But even that amp is often modified with a master volume by serious gear heads so you can overdrive the pre-amp and get distortion at low master volume levels. To sum, if you want clean only, get this amp. If you want a more versatile range of tones at low to mid volume, do not get this amp even though it is an excellent product. But if your band is loud as hell, get this amp, plug in, turn it to 11, and go nuts.

In response to Bruce F's rating below: this is a reissue of the Fender Twin Reverb, the standard of clean Fender sound and headroom. If you experienced tube distortion at such low settings, there was a problem with the amplifier. The 65 Twin Reverb was conservatively rated at 85 watts RMS. The lowest setting I've ever seen one go into overdrive is about seven. Of course, your results may vary, but not 2.5 to 3 unless it's broken. Even the vintage reissue can't be that bad. Take it to a reliable tech if you still have it. OR SELL IT TO ME!

I am using a PRS single cut with dragons at the neck and tremonti at the bridge. This Amp is great if you want clean sounds..But a warning..THIS AMP WILL BREAK UP AFTER 3. What does this mean? It means that if you want this amp to stay clean, and be loud YOU WILL NEED TO PA THIS AMP. This amp had some speaker hum but this could be adjust inside at the top of amp with a screw driver. It is also starts to get real noisy the more you add treble..trust me. Also, keep in mind there is no Effects loop in the back of the amp, so you have to run all effects through the front...This means extra hum. Overall this amp is not worth it at all if you want a clean sound at loud volumes, these amps are meant to break up after 2.5 or 3. If that tude amp distortion is what you want then this is the amp to check out. (A word to the wise..if you go to check this amp out at a store don't be scared to crank up the volume, this amp will sound great in the store at 2 or 3 but then you take it home and might realise its not what you were looking for.

Was out shopping for a high gain Marshall-Soldano-Mesa and decided to try this amp for the heck of it. Jeezus! It sounded great. One of the best cleans I've ever heard and I've played, and owned, Vintage Fenders before. It sounded so good I am thinking about buying one and running a overdrive box thru the front end for the high gain stuff. Super deep reverb and a very crisp tone(not overly bright but tight) I tried a re-issue Super Reverb but thought it souned a little dull and too rounded in comparison but still pretty darn good.

Playing seven years and have owned about ten amps so far and tried out a few hundred others looking for the mojo tone. Have not bought this one yet but am considering it. If you are looking for a clean amp with great reverb and tremolo you should try this one for sure. Fender and Rivera are both great amps for clean tones. Even some Mesas, like the Blue Angel, are worth trying as well.

Two channels with high and low input, 1 normal, 1 vibrato. Excellent fender reverb, you know the rest. A reissue of a classic amp. This is primarily a clean amp, but it will begin to distort past 3-4 on the volume with humbuckers. Mine came with Jensen reissue speakers and groove tubes throughout. This amp has a great tremelo and reverb, but no real useable distortion on tap unless you like the icepick in the ear treatment.

I use a PRS custom 24, warmoth jazzmaster with fralin p-90's, a fender strat plus with fralin pu's, and a 52' reissue telecaster. This amp is a fairly bad reissue; nothing like a real blackface. I've played plenty of silverfaces that sounded better. It is a very brittle sounding amp in comparison to those, with little warmth on tap. I always found myself adjusting the treble. It does have a fairly nice bass response though, quite round. I used it at home, practice space and live. The amp would begin to breakup at around 3.5 with my PRS and 4 with the jazzmaster, and 4.5 with the single coil guitars. This was an unpleasant surprise. I tried different tubes throughout, but that was not it. Cranked, this thing can kill small animals at 40 paces. It is really harsh, about as harsh as it gets. This amp was really only capable of a few sounds; clean, clean w/ reverb, and clean with tremolo, or a combination of the above said. I was pretty disappointed with this reissue. As I said, real blackfaces blow this away, and silverfaces are even better. Save your money and get one of those.

It began making a fuzzy sound after owning it about 2 months. I soon discovered it was a preamp tube. No big deal, and not fender's fault. Otherwise, the amp changed after I broke it in. This is not a surprise, but it changed for the worse, in my opinion. It's clean headroom dropped signifigantly as a result. I tried changing the tubes to see if this was the problem and didn't really see much of a difference. The tubes were (supposedly) relatively new anyways. I would have taken it back to the store where I bought it, but that is about 5 hours away, and the only authorized Fender repairman around is Guitar Center, and I've had enough of their games in the past...... Therefore, i will have to slant somewhat torwards Fender being that I didn't take it back to them under warranty.

I really wanted to like this amp...... Come on Fender, get it together....... This amp is an embarassment to the legacy of those great old amps. It hints at that greatness, but soon falls short. I compared it to the Super Reverb and initially liked it better, but thought it wouldn't have the headroom I needed for stage volume. Little did I know that the twin would begin breaking up even earlier than I would have liked. I now wish I would have went for the Super Reverb, but who's to say the same thing wouldn't have happened? I eventually traded it to someone for a Mesa Mark III.

Traditional blackface fender non-master, spring reverb, photo-resistor vibrato. In my opinion if this isn't enough on board you may be looking at the wrong amp.

For a new amp this amp sounds great and in my opinion truely captures the essence of the sound.
I'm using a stock standard 64 Gretsch 6125. 60s psych/garage influenced rock and roll. I also use a home made fuzz face copy and a 60s vox wah.
I also own a 64 blackface bandmaster and will be picking up a blackface vibrolus reverb I've got on lay-by in a couple of weeks. The other guitarist in our band has a 71 silverface vibrolux - wired to black face specs.
I'd rate these amps as an 8.5-9.0 played through the re-isse twins speakers. (..after these amps has a cap job and major service). In my opinions the twin is nearly as good. I've serviced a few old fender amps and tinker as a hobby, I believe the circuit board is poor but I don't think it has a huge effect on the sound. The amp is LOUD! and runs very hot with masses of headroom but lacks the nice "brown" distortion of the vibrolux.
BUT if you're into fuzz and fender amps but the smaller amps aren't loud enough this amp sounds superb.

The amp ran fine for 12-18 months and then developed a harsh crackle above 3. I live in Australia and decided not to return the amp based on problems friends have had. Upin opening the amp my heart sank, as substantial as the board is I just don't think it's good enough for the amp. I "touched" all the solder joints and the problem went away, only to re-surface. I then replaced the bias section and replaced the tubes with some "softer" ones. Touch wood the problem has gone away. I'm considering selling this amp and buying a beaten up 70s twin to restore. . . still not sure what to do. I've had it just over 3 years and played around 15 gigs with it and have only used it for around 20 practices. Whenever I gig with it I bring along the bandmaster head as a backup.

Beatiful looking re-production, nice sounding but the printed circuit board is simply not good enough in my opinion. Maybe it's the build, maybe it's the heat, maybe the vibrations - either way it's a problem. If you've got a dealer who can help you if it breaks and don't intend to move it a lot buy it at the right price, if you're going to gig a lot think about buying an oldie and getting it re-capped and re-tubed.

I would get another, if stolen, if I could get the same deal. Love the tone. I use a Boss TOD, to overdrive, when I need to and always have a slight Boss Chorus effect on it. I have had lots of Marshalls, as well as, other Fenders and I like the concept of this amp, which is lots of power in a small (but heavy) box. You need to add effects, unless you a playing straight Jazz. I think you could get whatever you need out of this amp. It's up to you.

It's a reissue so it just has those basic Fender features of vibrato and reverb. The tone controls are really good and give a wide variance, you think of fender twins as a "bright" amp; however, if you want bass, you can get as much as a bassman with the right tone settings.

I used to play a 70s SF Super Reverb, which sounded good, but didn't have enough headroom now that I am in a power trio. It would just distort at a volume that was too low.
I play mostly noisepop and have an old 60s Silvertone guitar with D'Armond pickups. The guitar has a unique sound which is complemented perfectly by the classic tone of this amp.
The clean sound is absolutely perfect. If you don't like pedal distortions, you might be better off with an Orange or a Marshall; however, if clean tones are what's important to you THIS IS YOUR AMP! Personally, I like pedal distortions as I think that Marshall distortion sound has been used to death, every song on the radio has that mushy boomy distortion. I say buy yourself a RAT pedal or a Muff for solos and maybe a TS9 or Fulldrive for chords and you are set for lo fi fun. The Fender Twin also works well with an MXR distortion +, if you want something really nasty. At about 5 or six, you get a little bit of growl that is pleasing to the ear. I like that better than the SF Twins with higher wattage (100 or 135) which is too much power for the clubs I play. 85 watts is enough to cut through even with the loudest rhythm section, it breaks up just a little and sounds fantabulous.
The reverb is lush and the vibrato goes from subtle to incredibly intense. What more could I want.

2001 85 watt 2x12" TRRI with classic sweet Fender Reverb and Vibrato accessed with footswitch, 4 inputs for normal and vibrato channels, 4 6L6 power tubes and 4 preamp tubes with solid state rectifier, Eminence speakers, no point to point wiring like the original but PCBs. Clean, clean, clean and used by me strictly for jazz and blues. I use this amp both at home for practice and live although its 64 pounds of girth are formidable.

This amp is clean all the way up to 10. I primarily play a Heritage 550 Custom - A thindbody modification of the H 550- now outfitted with Seymour Duncan Seth Lover humbuckers, a highly modified japanese strat with warmoth neck and 70s headstock and Van Zandt Blues pickups, and a 2001 American Series strat.
If you want to know what your pickups truly sound like, this is the amp, as clean and clear as a glass of water. I can go from classic Wes Montgomery to Pat Martino and then pull out a ripping blues lead. Never distorted, but always powerful. This amp is clean, as many of the reviewers have said, but it has balls. It can however be piercing with the treble set too high or flat and dull with the treble set too low. I achieve my best sounds with everything set to 5. There's a tremendous amount of power under the hood and I've tested it against the competting sounds of amplified horns and two drummers and it just rips right through.
You have to be aware that if you're a bit sloppy as a player, your mistakes come right through this amp particularly at higher volumes, and it really begs for disciplined clean play and a light touch. You don't have to do much to be heard when you play through this amp and every aspect of your playing dynamics will be clearly articulated, including pick scrapes, the difference between up and down strokes, etc. I think this amp encourages you to play with a light touch and really articulate your notes.
If you've been searching for clean sustain, this amp has that. Your notes will ring out and sustain in a way that cannot be imitated by pedals.
I do hear an occasional hiss at home which i believe is due to other electronics and lights because I have yet to experience this playing out. Also, not every pedal sounds good in front of it. I've had success with wah pedals, including my Snarling Dogs wah pedal, but not so much success with a Boss compressor, Boss DS-1, or any DOD pedals. The amp already has the best reverb in the land and the vibrato has some charm, although if you set the speed too high you will hear a slight clicking sound.
A lot of reviewers talk about modifying Fender products and I think this is certainly valid. I changed the 4 power tubes in here from the Groove Tubes to JJs (the company formerly known as Tesla) and these immediately further cleaned the amp up and tightened the bass response. I have also heard this amp as modified with Groove Tubes blue series tubes which imitate the NOS Phillips tubes of old and the amp had greater treble bite and a real nasty high end spank to it. I recommend testing a number of different power tubes, including Svetlana, JJs, Phillips NOS, and Groove Tubes blue series. The modification will further improve what I think is already a great amp. Be aware that if you like the clean on this amp it can get even cleaner with a power tube replacement.

Absolutely no problems so far but the tubes really get quite hot. I do have a Roland Blues Cube for back up. One thing is that you have to make sure to turn down the volume and turn off the vibrato or reverb before turning the amp off or you will hear a loud pop. Also best to put it on stand-by before finally switching it off and let it warm up some time on standby when switching it on.

I've dealt with Fender on a number of issues and had excellent responses actually. I have a five year warranty on this item, with the warranty being transferred to me by the original purchaser.

I've been playing since I was a kid and in the past seven years have really woodshedded my scales, arpeggios, ii-Vs, and chord substitutions. I've grown tremendously as a jazz player and obtaining the TRRI was a part of having a tone that reflected that growth and maturity. I consider this the holy grail of jazz amps. Very little in my opinion comes close and nothing delivers this kind of clean tone at these volumes. Fender's Dual Professional and VibroKing warrant a look as well as the Holland Jazz amp, but the Twin Reverb remains a standard by which those are mneasured. In fact the only true measuring stick for the TRRI are older models twin reverbs, for Fenders past is certainly in most cases superior to its present. All in all the TRRI stands up well, is slightly lighter, and has the similar kind of classic Fender character as those amps.

Recent vintage '65 Twin RI. Like the original, two channels, one with reverb (more of it than you'll ever use) and vibrato. Treble, Mid and Bass controls allows you to make some pretty careful calls on tone, depending if you are using single coil or HB's, and a bright switch, which is particularly helpful in twanding up those fat HB's in certain situations. Because it is a RI, there are no modern acoutrements like effect loops or channel switching. If you want those, there are other amps from Fender and other people you can get. Rated 85 watts RMS, which is pretty serious power for a tube amp although I will say the 30W Vox AC30 TBX I A/B with this baby is almost every bit as loud. Although this amp's mission is to give you those classic clean tones, you can color it pretty seriously with the right effects.

Sounds are, as expected, super clean if you want them to be, and you can capture everything from Tele-twang to bluesy Strat and LP tones. Plenty of flexibility for tose 60's sounds here. Its all tube so inherent noise is low, although like any amp, you will get SC hum and noise from certain pedals. I can't really get this thing loud enough to break up (unlike my vintage Silvertone 1484 which starts to go around 3 1/2 to 4). You can always pick up some saturation if you crank the volume and back off on you guitar volume. I am in a covers project at the moment, 60's to current, and this amp is pretty flexible, but best at the clean stuff

So far so good. I bought this used, about 2 years old. It had been gigged a little and needed a little cosmetic work, but it had been gone through by an amp tech I use just before I bought it. Everything works to perfection and feels solid, although the back panel is thin and kind of cheesy when you put it on an angled stand. This is now in the regular gig rotation and everything works, all the time. I do not gig without backup, anytime. In addition to the AC30, I always bring a 23 year old Roland JC 120. I know, its not tube, but its clean, has plenty of power and its bulletproof. It has saved my butt on several occasions when the Vox went down.

I've been playing since I was in a fledgling rock band in the early to mid 60's. As a gearhead, I have plenty. In addition to the above amps, I also have a vintage Vox Viscount (Thomas Organ, with MRB!)and a couple of small practice amps. I use a SKB PS-15 pedalboard with a crybaby, TS 808 modded Tubescreamer, and a bunch of Boss pedals - tuner, CH-1, BF-2, PS-3, MT-2, RV-3, CS-2. Occasionally will throw something on the end of the chain like H&K Rotosphere or EH Bassballs for that vowel thing. Axes include LP Goldtop 30th Anniv., Strat, '52 Tele RI, Gretsch Elliot Easton, Dearmond M75T (check 'em out), Rick 620 and a few others. If this amp were lost or stolen, I'd first be righteously pissed and try to track the perp, and would then either get another or maybe a Super Reverb RI. Its covering everything I ask from it. If you want brown, heavy or grunge, there are plenty of other amps out there. If variations on clean, powerful lead and rhythm tones are what you want, give this a look. I'm not disappointed!

Bought this in Feb 2002 at about 3/4 months old so probably built 2001? I play a very wide range of styles from western swing through country through rock a billy. Blues also feature...
Classic 2x12 combo, twin channels, not switchable. One channel is "straight" (no effects) and the other is the vibrato/reverb channel. This is a true all valve amp 12AX7s/6L6s and is CLEAN!!! I gig it regularly, never had it past "5" and that's well loud. These amps don't overdrive so you'll need o/d pedal if that's what you want. Frankly I bought it to be nothing else but clean. It replaced a 4x10 Tweed DeVille which was also a great amp but not in the same class as this! This amp is as versatile as you want it to be but it doesn't model other amps, they try to model it!!!

I play mainly Telecasters, Strats and a 335. The Fenders sound, well, "like Fenders!". The Gibson sparkles more and loses that muddiness on the bottom end. I also play a Ric 620-12 which suits it very well indeed. The Teles honk and twang like never before but there is also a smoothness, dare I say jazziness if you want it. The amp can be a little hard and glassy but familiarity soon sorts that out. Overall the sound is big, clean and "true", power to spare. The vibrato is legendary and the reverb does Dick Dale to death.

So far this amp is a true Fender and I've had a few! It IS very reliable and I trust it. I do look after my gear so a squirt of switch cleaner and a blow out with air (in a can!) helps. They do run hot so it's a good idea to rest them a bit before putting the cover on. Fender UK have always been good to deal with, however my local dealer ("Antones", Hull www.antonesguitars.co.uk) are absolute stars!

I've only really used Fender Uk for queries. They do have an excellent dealer network in the UK. I've read some negative comments from other users in the US, maybe some of their dealers aren't as good as they could be? Basically if you treat your gear badly, it'll do it all over you....

I've been playing for nearly 40 years which is well, "scary". This is my only amp at present. I do use a range of Boss pedals, compressor, delay and chorus as well as a Line 6 DL4 delay modeller.Yes some gear has got "tackier" but overall things do move on. 60s gear wasn't always that good, some modern stuff is much better but that's a personal thing. Any change for the better has to be good but remember what musicians want!!!
This is the BEST AMP I've owned. it sounds just like I hoped it would. It looks like the dogs doodahs, is very solid and wrecks your gonads. Yes it's heavy. If I have to replace it, I hope Fender are still making them. Now go out and get one........

I think it was made in 2001. The features it has totally enough for me . Because more important is the tone than the features and it has unbelievable sound. I bought it because its excelent clean tone. 2 Channel; Normal and Vibrato. I use only Vibrato Channel because it has reverb. It has quartet of 6L6 and 6 Preamp tubes. It has also 2 Eminence speaker which sound very good.

I use it with Fender strat and the tone is amazing. My only need is a good guitar and the clean tone and Twin delivers the tone I've been looking for. This is the Clean amp which has become an industry standart for other amplifiers. So no need to describe this tone. It doesn't distort high volumes, actually I never turn up the volume past 3 at room environment. The only experiment I made to get it past 3 was in the Dealer's store. And it was very very loud. It has nice reverb also. It is very quite amp no hiss or humm.

So far so good. I bought it new and it has been only one week. The only negative thing is that the back gets very hot after one hours of playing but I put it in a proper place so it breathes very well. I also use stand by switch to let the power tubes warm up. It seems to be quality product.

I've been playing for 20 years and this is the amp I look for. Current ly this is the only amp I have and I love its clean character. I had an Marshall JCM 601 which was a good amp also and I traded it in for Twin. If it were stolen or lost I would definitely buy a Twin again. I would recommend it to everybody.
