This big bad Pro is a bit of a "frankenstein" of Fender greatness. The cabinet is a TV-front with the vertical tweed pattern, lending itself to be from around '49 or so. The chassis is a '51 and the 15" field-coil Jensen speaker is also a '51, but not likely from the same amp as the chassis. Collectors may cringe to hear that it's not "all-matching", but screw them! It's not an investment, it's meant to be played, dammit! Hell... It probably sounds EXACTLY the same as their "mint" 1951 Pro (if not better). The tweed and grill-cloth have been pretty well abused, too. That's okay, I don't like to baby 'em anyway. As for features, it's just what is needed. Less is more, here. Two places to plug in for each channel (instrument and microphone). And the best part... one volume and one tone knob for each! With a power rating of about 18-25 watts, it's pretty darn good for what I like. It's been great in the studio as well as gigs of varying size. The 15" speaker gives it good (and clear) stage volume, but if you're using it somewhere kinda big, you'd better mic it so the folks in the back can hear ya. I've rated it's features a 1 because it is very limited. But that's just how I like it!

Good solid tone! The 18-25 watts means you can control a lot of the sound by the volume knob alone. Down low, you got a clean sound that is FAT and uncompressed, the way it should be! Crank 'er up and she gets that classic tweed "bark-and-snarl". It works great for more classic styles of music rather than the contemporary heavy stuff. For you jazz, country, blues, and old-school rock 'n rollers, it fits the bill.

It's been to gigs without a backup. I wouldn't suggest it. It's over 50 years old, for cryin' out loud!

I've got guy here in the Dallas area that is top-notch with the old stuff. I don't usually do mods, I prefer 'em to be as close to factory settings as possible. I figure the folks at Fender knew what they were doing back then. That's why these things are so sought after!

I've been playing for most of my 33 years and have covered much of the gamut of American music styles. This old Pro is simple and may be a one-trick-pony, but it's a good pony. I like it just the way it its!

i use fender strat and tele's 1 with bardens and 66 gretsch?. i turn it all the way up and set tone at 5 to 10. the tone on ten adds lots-o-volume.i had it serviced new caps ,tubes etc. it's pretty quiet for being 51 years old !
