well, mine's a '61 to be exact... came with a weber signature alnico as the original speaker was long gone... one knob and two inputs - the way they're supposed to be. it's not versatile in a modern-day sense of the word, but it's a great-sounding, musical amp.
i use it for practise around the house and home-recording purposes and it never ceases to amaze me.

i prefer p90's or humbuckers with this amp. i never use pedals with it except reverb/delay occasionally. the range of tones from clean to overdrive are stunning. leaves the 5F1-clone i had before in the dust. this amp is LOUD when turned up to 11 (where it gets really great). at 12.5 it sounds its best, but even the 4-5 settings sound great!
i play mostly original indie/classic-rock type of music and i can imagine using this amp on mic'd gigs, no problem.
like our other guitar-player said - "this amp's got everything"!

this amp is 40+ years old and i've no doubt it will perform great for years to come. i never play out without a back-up of some sort, but i rarely ever needed one (knock on wood).

obviously, this amp is long out of warranty, but i've had good experience dealing with fender/germany in the past.

been playing for more than 20 years and i have a couple of other amps (fenders and marshalls/new and vintage) to compare it to. it's my first real tweed amp and it's prove that what they say about the old tweeds is ALL true. i had a 5F1-clone before this and the best thing is that i sold the clone THE SAME DAY I GOT THIS - FOR THE SAME MONEY!!! you can tell by now that i'm a lucky sob :)

I Play Strats, Les Paul Jnr, SG Jnrs, playing mostly Blues, Rock.
Amp is silent on idle, normal 60 cycle hum with Single coils, silent with Humbuckers. Replaced the old Caps with new sprague atoms, thats it. Ever wondered why these old Champs have become so expensive (If you can find em)....Clapton (Layla) Joe Walsh (Rocky Mountain Way)George Harrison through the 80's. If you love Tweed Tone in a small package that you can play at home, sell your modern amps,o/d pedals, and what ever else....Get one,Get it serviced, and enjoy the Real Deal and Genius of Leo Fender. This little baby sings, touch sensitive, sustain, nothing equals it. The more you turn it up the more it ROCKS! NOTHING...Today equals these puppies. The Tweed Deluxes Baby Brother.

Make sure its all original, especially Transformers, Replace the speaker, for safety/investment purposes. Have a good Amp Tech service and Tune him up, and he will loyally serve you for another 45 years.
Leo built them so well they have stood the test of time. Everything was still working fine when I got it, but Caps need replacing every ten years, you wouldn't buy a '57 Chev and expect to run it with the original spark plugs and expect it to perform to its best. Service it,care for it,and he will reward you with simply the Best Tone in a small amp you will ever find.

These Amps are little Gems. Portable, easily stored, reliable, and pack the sort of Tone you want. Like most of the Student amps/guitars of the 50's and 60's.....from Fender and Gibson....TONE MONSTERS!!!!! If you play at home, forget modern 30 - 50 watt amps.
They don't come within a million miles of the sustain, touch sensitivity, natural tube o/d these amps crank out...just add NOS Tubes and a good guitar plugged straight into the amp and Rock On.

I have been a hobby player since 1987. Being a Left Handed player has been frustrating finding good afford able guitars. So finding amps and improving as aplayer Have been more important than owning 20 Guitars! These old Champs are expensive but a new Boutique version runs $700 on average.

This is the real deal champ. I have had the 6watt SF champs(two), and a Champ 12, but this baby is a keeper, the best sounding one 6 v6 amp I have ever heard. I play amplified harmonicas. It has NOS RCA blackplate 6v6(wow), and my tech sold me on using a 5v4 rectifyer tube, a nice sag for playing da blues.I have several different lower gain preamp tubes I rotate in and out-(Jan Phillips-12AT7, GE 12AY7, and RCA 12AU7. The tweeds are louder than BF, and SF champs. I sold a nice SF champ to help pay for the tweed champ.Creamy overdrive, and its almost shocking how loud this amp is if pushed. I plan to use this as an occasional preamp to a larger amp, rehearse, try not to disturb neighbors, and perform in several low volume venues. Here one yourself, it is a tone monster. I have played through old small Silvertones, Gibson GA-5s, and GA-8s,a Kalamazoo one, a Supro; this sounded best, though the 6v6 57 Gibson GA-5 wasn't to far off from my tweed.

Use with old Shure green bullet w/dynamic element. This amp idles quiet. Nice sag with the 5v4 rectifyer tube. Reverb, who cares. If you need it, buy an echo, or reverb box. This amp starts overdriving with the volume on 4, for harp if you use the lower gain preamp tubes, will help get that volume knob turned higher, sounds so good.

I can depend on this amp for what it will be used for. It is sort of a backup amp, but in certain applications, will be my primary amp. I have a great tech.

Have been playing about 28 years, semi pro over 20. I am very satisfied with my champ, and my playing out amp, a 63 Ampeg reverbrocket. I love low volume simple tube amps, the tweed champ is a keeper. These amps are expensive, I traded a SF champ, and a 2x10 cab with Weber VST alnicos to get this. In cleaning out my clothes, I mean music closet to get this little gem, I even made my wife happy, thank you Leo!!Now I even have room for more clothes, oops I mean one more??amp, ha, ha!!.
