Made last year or maybe this year.
This amp is heaps versatile, i play mostly indie, blues, rock, bit of country by my friends have played everything through it from jazz and funk to hard rock.
There are 3 channels: clean, drive and more drive (not really a channel more like a boost). All of them are useable, more drive is really nifty for that extra push when you need it.
There is a nice effects loop and a very cool footswitch is included.
I wish it had wheels itd be easier to cart around. It's bloody loud and sounds great though so carting it around, while annoying, is worth it.

I play strats, teles and have played some thinline semis through it, all of which sounded nice but the Fenders really stood out. the tele neck pickup sounded round and smooth, and the strat sounded great whatever i did.
I think this amp was loosely designed around the old 50's Bassman and it can certainly pull off some of those lovely old style Fender tones. Im into lots of old music, so this vintage sound is great for me but might not be for some people.
The clean channel breaks up nicely, like the Bassman. The drive channel doesnt really offer super high gain sounds, more like a Hendrix/Cream style, heavier bluesy sound with sustain and a lot of...well...great tone. The EQ is really useable and the slightest movement of the knobs changes the sound noticeably.
My only complaint about the sound is that the difference between 1 and 2 on the volume knob(on both channels) is the amp not being audible and the neighbours getting pissed off, but this isnt a real complaint because who the hell buys a 60W, 212 combo as a practice amp?
ITS ******* LOUD!!

I bought this amp in 2007 so yeah it was made around then i guess.
It's very versatile indeed, either for clean work or use with effects and for whatever type of music you play. It's kind of basic, but does have an effects loop of sorts, you just use the pre-amp out and in sockets. There is a master volume and a clean volume. The dirty channel also has two footswitchable settings, one for dirty and one for, uh, dirtyer. One disappointment is that the reverb, though lush, is not footswitchable.
Sound Quality
:9
I use a standard Fender Telecaster usually and i find the two compliment eachother very well. The tone is beautiful, particularly clean. The dirty channel isn't amazing but that has never really bothered me as i use a lot of effects, so get my dirty sounds from a EHX big muff, Boss blues driver or Zvex fuzz probe(which i highly recommend). The important thing here is that for my general playing, the clean tone is unreal!!
The only area of my playing that makes me wish for something more from it is tapping....I play a lot of Minus the bear style clean tapping riffs. It was impossible with the gain available through the clean channel, so i have to use a compressor with the threshold right up which produces a fair amount of noise. So uh yeah!
Reliability
:9
It's never let me down once though i've only had it 18 months which is why i gave it 9 not 10. Before i bought it i read a review on here saying the reliability wasn't great. But the guy did crank a drum machine through it so don't let that stop you!
Only complaint is that the numbers on the dials seem to be rubbing off a little. But considering the cost of this amp i still see it as brilliant value for money!

I've been playing a few years now i guess, in a band which plays kind of modern alt rock whatever. Personal influences: minus the bear, at the drive-in, brand new, muse, interpol....loads of different stuff. If it was stolen i'd buy another for sure, maybe the 4x10 version though. Play a few pedals, in brackets is how well i feel they interact with this amp in comparison with others i've played through:
Boss Phase shifter (7)
EHX clone theory (10)
Line 6 filter modeller (8)
Pigtronix Attack Sustain (10)
EHX POG (with marshall compressor for sustain) (9)
MXR blue box (6)
EHX big muff (8)
Boss dd-20 giga delay (9)
Zvex fuzz probe (9)
Boss blues driver (6)
I love everything about it, even it's simple understated appearance. My girlfriend didn't want me to buy it as it was "ugly" she was taken in by the pretty orange and vox amp. Btw orange rockerverb would be my second choice of amp. I chose the fender over it though because i liked them about the same sound wise but the fender was cheaper. Also a friend of mine bought an orange around the same time and has had loads of problems with it.

The clean sound to die for is from Crate V32 Palomino so I thought. I own one. The Hot Rod Deville matches the clean sound of the V32s and gives a better and fatter high gain setting. This amp is LOUD and will complement any kind of music except nu-metal - from funk, jazz, rock, country and everything in between. I was shopping for an amp to replace my Traynor CYV80 ( which is no match at all). I tried the Deluxe Reverb and the Vibrolux and Hot Rod Deluxe, the Hot Rod Deville beats them all in all areas. I think it is more versatile than a Twin,IMO.
Les Pauls sound fant and creamy. Even my Lone Star Strat sounds like a Les Paul with the Seymour Duncans bridge pups. THE SEARCH IS OVER. THANKS GOD !!!

Spent too much moeny and time looking for the one tube amp to do all the things I need. From hi-priced Boogies, modeling amps and others, this HOT ROD DEVILLE is the real thing. You can gig with it, record with it, or play around with it. BOTTOM LINE: you cannot go wrong with a Hot Rod Deville.

If you want a blues sound AND you are using a pick and an overdrive pedal its fine, and remember this is a blues amp, "Blues Deville" before they added the more drive and called it the Hot Rod Deville.
The sound is no good at all for a sweet clean sound, infact useless, its just muddy, it sounds like a half open wah, that muddy hollow mid, no definition, the bass is woolly and boomy which everyone complains about on the Fender forum, also there is the problem of the ice pick high end, and the muddy mid, people complain about this aswell on the Fender forum .
You have to have the bass almost off, the mid adjusts the muddiness but nothing else, you can't get a decent sound, its harsh is the main comment made about the Deluxe and Deville.
It doesn't like to be used as a power amp either, the muddyness makes the POD etc sound bad through it, and putting reverb through it is really bad. There is a mod kit you can buy to take away some muddiness, most people on the Fender forum have done a "tone stack mod" so the controls are usable and changed the speakers, to get a clearer sound without the boomy low end muddy middle, and ice pick high end, but this is pointless because why even buy it to do that.
Its pretty well known that the drive isn't very good and the more drive is almost unusable, nearly everyone uses pedals for overdrive and distortion. I have used this amp and 2 Hot Rod deluxe amps aswell, these amps just have a sound, no quality, just a "sound" and a harsh one. The reverb swamps on anything more than 2, and with the hollow muddy mid it really blurs the sound.
Read the archives on the Fender Forum, you can see the mods on the hot rod deluxe owners website.

All the specs and product info have been covered in these reviews and there???s plenty of info online.
I???d just say the Hot Rod is your basic working-mans 2x12 tube amp - and for what it is, it's good.
Sound Quality
:10
I???ve had my 2x12 Deville for about a year now. I first came into contact with these amps at a by-the-hour rehearsal studio that had the HD Deluxe setup in one of the rooms. I never forgot how much noise that little box made and how awesome the tone was, and I knew I wanted to get one.
It took me a couple years, but I finally got my hands on one. I chose the 2x12 over the 1x12 Deluxe model because while the Deluxe is loud as heck and sounds just right, I wanted more headroom to maintain the clean tones. I found the 2x12 a little warmer than the 2x10 version, and that the 2x12 sounded closer to the tone of the 1x10 Deluxe ??? though ALL of them sound friggin??? great.
I play with three guitars:
Fender Telecaster 72??? Thinline RI (Stock)
BC Rich Mockingbird Special (W/ Rockfield SWV???s)
Ibanez S-series (W/ Seymour Duncan SH-6)
???which I consider respectively, my
Clean Sensitive guitar
Dirty rock guitar
Brutal Metal guitar
For whatever reason the Telecaster has some kind of magic mojo going with this amp because it sounds like a slice of heaven, and nothing at all like the other two guitars (though the Tele and the Mockingbird both has Alnico Pickups). It???s not to say the other guitars sound bad at all, it???s just to make the point that the Fender guitar sounds AMAZING with the Fender amp ??? it???s hard to describe, but there???d this ringing sonic quality that I guess you would just call the Fender sound. The reverb might have something to do with it as well.
The distortion channel on this amp is not sufficient for metal but it makes a hell of an AC/DC style rock sound though. I use a pedal for my more brutal metal tones, but having the two levels and styles of distortion are nice, and layering the pedal on top of the amps distortion channel makes a lead sound so out of control???it???s pretty righteous.
I use an Ibanez Sm-7 distortion stomp box and the Hot Rod Deluxe take to it like a champ. It???s loud, intense, gritty, thick on the bottom, tight, and lets the harmonics fly. Fender may have no rep at all in metal circles, but this amp was built to handle some serious riff action. I actually sold my Marshall 2x12 combo because I just don???t need it anymore as the Fender Hot Rod turns from a ???Deville??? to a Devil from Hell with the addition of one little stomp box.
This amp IS louder than any combo amp I???ve ever come across ??? but I???ve run into a couple issue in that area.
The Hot Rod is VERY directional. If you just sit it on the ground next to the drum kit the sound will get lost around your feet, and if you stand on either side of the amp the tone and volume get lost. You NEED to put a kickback on it or get a kickback stand for it ??? it makes all the difference in the world in how this amp fills up a room. It???s more than loud enough to keep up with practice jamming and bar room size gigs (and can be mic???d for anything more), but if you wanna compete with a stack at a metal show you will definitely need the kickback stand and maybe an extension cabinet (which is an option).
I???ve seen some mention in reviews that this amp is too loud for a practice amp but I???ve not found that to be true at all. It can be adjusted to a low level (apartment level) and it sounds great. The volume is indeed VERY sensitive at that level, but it???s really not that hard to dial in.
The only thing with that though is that the Deville does sound pretty different going from low levels to higher levels. As you get louder the bass tends to drop out just a bit, and of course, the louder you go the more tube saturation you get ??? though the clean channel has to be at full band level to break up.
All in all, This amp sounds great, is versatile, packs a heck of a punch for a combo amp, and could possibly be your ???only amp I need??? as well.

This is definitely not a clean amp. This amp needs to be turned up to about 4-5 on the clean channel to get to max volume, and then on you get the sound it was made for. This is the way this amp should be used. People who say this amp stays clean have never turned it up above 3. Turn the clean channel up to 12 and you get a distorted Hendrix-like sound, really nice. With humbuckers it's Gary Moore. Down to about 5-6 it's a nice bluesy distortion (you need to activate 'bright'). This is what this amp is meant to be used for. The distortion channels are weak substitutes for this amazing blues sound at lower volumes.

I got this amp in 2007. I try to keep my effects loop simple by playing through a distortion box and a wah. Seems that running the effect though the amps loop works best. I am glad the amp as this feature. Don't like the fact that it does not have head phone jacks.
The cable from the channel switching box is cheaply made.

There are issues maintaining consistant volume levels between clean and distortion levels, but I am not sure if this is totally the amps issue. I don't like how at lower levels the volume is difficult to dail in. The overall sound quality is great.

pretty neat I think, I'm not completely accustomed to tube amps
3 12ax7 preamp tubes
2 6l6 power tubes
2 channels (it says 3, but I don't count the gain boost)
master volumes, bass, treb, mids control
presence control
treble boost for the clean channel
drive boost for the gain channel
spring reverb
2 12 inch eminence speakers
pretty decent as far as features go. I'm not into really complex amps with a couple dozen knobs to mess with, I like an amp that is simple and sounds good with very little tweaking.
This is an 800 dollar amp but guitar center accidentally had a tag on that said 750 so I saved 50 bucks :)

I generally use a strat, it's all custom, I have SCN pickups in all positions. I play a lot of styles, jazz, blues, rock, hard rock, you name it, except for chicken picking and modern metal. This amp will generally satisfy most of my tastes.
The amp is fairly quiet but it picks up a lot of radio activity like cell phones etc.
The amp will basically take you from pristine cleans to pretty dirty zz top sort of tones which is fine for me. I particularly like how I managed to coax some Eric Johnson type sounds out of it. beautiful.
clean channel is just that. clean. all volumes. I love it. I will say that this amp is LOUD! I don't usually ever go above three. it goes to twelve. That's one more than eleven innit? Distortion isn't that of a Peavey JSX or a Marshall JVM but hey? it's a Fender, what do you expect? I like it. I'm not some metal head, I get all the distortion out of this that I need and I don't need any pedals generally, just a wah wah if that and then run it otherwise dry.

It's a fender. Historically, I have never had any serious problems with fender products. I don't think this will be an exception. this thing is solid. It weights probably 70 or so pounds though, so it's basically a thousand dollar broken shoulder. I'm sure if you don't play too loud and you don't routinely drop your amps down staircases, I imagine your tubes and your tolex should last a good long time, just take care of your stuff.

good amp. not the best, but good enough for me. I'm in love with it. I though about gettign a Marshall stack, but I don't need that kind of power, and I personnally think that the distortion on a Marshall sounds like a toy, the Fender is smooth and has loads of sustain and is incredibly dynamic, whereas marshalls kind of take over the sound of your guitar and saturate it if you will. I just don't need to be that heavy. If you like a powerful, punchy amp that sounds great and won't cost you a late retirement, this is for you, especially if you just crave that classic tube sound.

As the Fender-homepage says..."It has all you need, and nothing you don't":
- 65 Watts, full tube
- 3 Channels
- 3-Band-EQ
- FX-Loop
- Spring Reverb
Ok, maybe a seperate EQ for Clean/Drive-Channels would be nice...but that's nothing you REALLY need.
In generall I hate Amps with 4 Channels, seperate EQs, tons of effects and...and...and..., cause either they sound like crap, or they cost tooooo much. So it's a perfect match for people like me, that need a simple, great sounding Amp with tons of power...

I love the Queens of the stone age, Kyuss or Truckfighters (...), and their bassy sounds, so my guitar (Ibanez Artcore AM78t - Semi-acoustic) is tuned down to C-Standard. So not as most of the Deville-Players, I don't play Blues or Country or whatever...I play...let's say Hard Rock with bluesy influences ^^
And I really love the More-Drive-Channel...it's very straight and sharp, quite biting, with that special vintage-touch. I also use a EHX Graphic Fuzz to boost the Drive-Channels (I use it without it's distortion, just as EQ, Booster and Sustainer)...and that sound is just amazing! Very unique and quite fuzzy, esp. if you use the Neck-PU!
The 65 Watts are more I'll ever need...at home i turn up the Master to not even 2 (goes up to 12...) and the power and pressure is just amazing! I'm sure, neighbors hate the Deville!!
The Clean-Channel is...well, it's a Fender, so it's great!

I play a 70's Strat, and a newer Godin with P-90's. With the strat I get a wide range of sounds, this amp is sensitive to what is input. Clean channel bridge pickup is clean and surfin. Clean channel mid pickup is great for 60's style rhythm. Clean channel neck pickup WOW. Hendrix, SRV, I am not kidding! I could not believe that this amp approached the holy grail sound that I was looking for. I played through several amps at several stores last weekend. All the brands with claims about versatile sound, getting the Marshall vintage Sound, etc. etc. blah blah, at ANY PRICE all fell short of what they claimed. Except this Fender Hot Rod Deluxe (which makes no claims), yet this amp came the closest to the sweet, full round clean with a cranked edge and punch as vintage Marshalls do--unreal!! The distortion channel can be tweaked to add an edge and bite to the clean sound for a little attitude, or turn up to really shred. I prefer a little attitude. I always thought that Fenders were too clean and not very versatile, am I glad that I tried out this amp. This amp has balls and really rocks.

I have been playing guitar for 45 years (since I was 10) and still rockin'. If this amp were lost I would strongly consider getting another. I am currently seeking to get an early model Marshall JCM or JMP, in the interim of finding the right Vintage Marshall, this Hot Rod Deluxe came along. I am happy that I have discovered a great and versatile amp. When I do find the right Marshall, I intend on keeping this Fender for the sounds it can deliver that the Marshall can't. This Fender comes close to delivering the Marshall sound (closer than any other tube amps that I tried: Orange, Crate, Mesa, Peavey, Vox, Genz, etc. (at all price points), and still delivers a lot of Fender sounds. It is also Damn Loud. It sounds good played loud or soft. I'ts a keeper and it's Made in The United States of America!
