laughing: Quite the joke, there ... features? As in power switch, volume knob, tone knob, and input jack? However, I will say that a reasonable amount of variation can be gotten from these two knobs, and I think that too many amps today come with 67 1/2 switches which aren't even used to their full potential.

Perhaps more people will get back to the basics, and I am proud that Fender is showing simplicity for great tone, not complicated, tone-robbing circuitry.

Sound Quality : 9
Play copies, a Samick Les Paul, and an Essex Tele. Both nice guitars, played them through a handful of amps, own a Peavey KB100 (SS), Rickebacker TR7 (SS), and a Crate VC5310 50 watter all-tube with 3 10" speakers. Wanted a little tube amp I could carry easily and be heard with over drums. Hard to get that rich, power tube-saturation sound with pre-amp distortion. It's also a plus that I can almost put this thing in my pocket!

Humbuckers sound fantastic through this, Tele, too, but a bit more twangy, there. Can't quite get enough bass out of it, stock. Perhaps I'll fool with some tube swaps and maybe get a Celestion Vintage Club 30 or something down the line for it. I'd also like to hook this up to my 3 10" speakers in the Crate, but then that'd defeat the portability.

While this basically has one tone, it's a fantastic overdrive, from about 5 and higher. Rhythym position on Les Paul, tone knob down, volume on about 6 makes me think of "Sunshine of Your Love". That's right, power-tube saturating fans, you CAN get fantastic overdrive in tiny packages for reasonable deals.

If you critique this and say it lacks virsatility, then why did you buy a 15-watt tube amp to begin with?

Reliability : 7
Seems very reliable to me, no hint of breaking down. I got it used from a guy at a guitar expo, tried out this vintage Lafayette amp first ... heh, thing kept zapping me when I brought it home, and then it started making all these noises ... anyway, took it back, and I was told that I could walk away with the Pro Junior for the $220 I had already spent on it, so I took the deal. Hopefully didn't pay TOO much, I, personally, probably would not have bought it for a straight $220, but I'd already paid him, and I just wanted a great deal, yadda yadda.

Makes this hum, all the time, even with volume turned all the way down ... and when the volume's all the way down, it still makes sound, and it's distorted ... very odd.

Customer Support : No Opinion
Never talked to Fender, though I might, because I want some tube shields on this if I ever play near a TV or something.

Overall Rating : 10
I highly recommend this amp, for someone who wants a great tube overdrive in a managable package. If you think it lacks volume, here's the secret to being heard: you don't have ears on your ankles, so put it at ear level and you'll be amazed at how much louder that little lunchbox screams. Email if you'd like anything answered, or if you'd like to talk about how awesome this little gem is.

Gets a 10, because I set out for an amp with a great OVERDRIVE, not an overdrive PLUS clean, and since it does what I want perfectly, this milk-jug-sized wonder gets a 10.

-Brendan :)

I think that this is 2003 made. It's bought in Sweden, quite low on features, but hey - it's only plain rock'n'roll! (I do not need any more than this, I consider my JTM-45 REI head being state-of-the-art-adjustable! AKA it has A LOT of knobs!)

Sound Quality : 10
I'm playing a Telecaster American Traditionel (is that correct?) and a LP Classic. It's perfect for just about anything that I am able to play: rockabilly, blues, rock'n'roll and about all music based on guitar... (maybe NOT classical stuff=) I'm a Kossoff-Hendrix-Clapton-Page-Beck-Townshend-Young-type of player wich makes it gooooooooood! I just it in combination with a Dallas Arbiter Fuzz Face REI, and a CryBaby Wah REI. Everything sounds so good...

Reliability : 9
My bluesband associates might just be VERY glad to see me carrying this little cutie instead of my JTM-45 head and 4*12" cabinet... Looks very durable and might just fall off a chair still sounding good!

No experience - and that is good...

I've been playing for 15 years, always stayed true to Marshall tube amps... Needed a small sized thingy for recordings and variation. It's very versatile and suits me hand in glove, I love the little 10"-speaker, it's totally different from the Vintage Marshall 1960 cab. I do not lack a thing about this little fella... It's perfect!

This amp is small and light weight perfect for the type of place I play in (Church Sanctuary and gym). I give the amp a nine because there is nothing absolutely perfect and I would really like to have reverb which it doesnt have. 2 knobs very simple to figure out a good tone just dial in what you like and have at it. I play mostly contemporary Christian and praise and worship music, which will automatically put me in a box to some readers, but I also play blues and classic rock which this amp works nicely for.

Sound Quality : 9
My main guitar is a custom Telecaster that was built for me by a longtime picker in my town, and a Fender American Standard Strat.
Both have singlecoil pickups and top of the line tuning pegs which i will leave you to guess. The amp sounds really good with Fender and fender style guitars, but as i said before nothing is perfect so i have a few complaints. Even with the fix mentioned in other reviews it still has a fairly nasty hum with the singlecoils. I think this is something that i'll have to deal with unless i want to invest in Humbuckers. for the christian music which encompasses everything from rock to country tones this amp is very versatile. it has amazing volume for such a small amp (was louder than a peavey classic 30 that i tried out at the same volume level) The amp goes with a crystal clean sound from 1-3 1/2. After that you start to get a warm overdriven crunch sound 4-8. From 8 on you have a fairly raunchy tube distortion, can't quite place a possible artist description but it can sound nice if used in the right environment. Small Marshall is the best description i have.

Reliability : No Opinion
So far i have giged with out a backup for about 2 weeks and will continue to do so. i just bought the amp brand new so no problems so far will let know in approximately a year.

i've played for 3 years, but i get all my advice from musicians who have been playing for 20 plus years and are locally known as being top notch. i will probably buy another if i get the chance and if something happens to this one i will definitely replace it because for me it is the best sized amp for the tone and volume. Will say that if you are a metal head do not get this amp it is not for you. not a high gain amp. please don't let me read about people bashing this piece of equipment because they can't get a metalicca or Steve Vai sound out of it. the amp was not built for that.
thanks.

This is an amendment to an earlier review I left here on Nov 9th, 2003. After finding out about how easy it was to get rid of the buzz, I bought another Pro Junior to try out the fix. It worked like a charm, buzz gone instantly. I am selling my Blues Junior and keeping the Pro Junior. It just has so much more character than the Blues Junior. The Blues Junior is more versatile but the smaller lightweight Pro junior nails the sound I want (old 50's style sound in clean, nice punchy distortion when pushed)

Sound Quality : No Opinion
I am using this with my Fender AMerican Tele (using Kinman pickups - which are amazing)

I play mainly country, with bits of classic rock, Beatles, Rockabilly, jazz and classical.

I took out the old tubes and put in a set of JJ Tesla EL84's. I tried the Electro Harmonix but they were kinda clinical and harsh-brite, the JJ's were nice and warm. I tried to use the JJ version of the 12ax7 but it just hummed like a bat outta hell, so I tried the Electro Harmonix 12ax7's and those worked fine. The original tubes worked fine for me but the JJ's have a nicer roundness that I liked. I bought my tuibes from the tube store dot calm

Reliability : No Opinion
Unscrewed the middle back screw on top and as soon as it was a little ways out, the ground loop buzz stopped. My friend has an all original USA made Pro Junior and it does not have this problem. Mine is a made in Mexico version and I guess the screw is just a little too long and touched the tone pot causing a ground loop which causes buzzing.

Customer Support : No Opinion
Why hasn't Fender fixed this problem??? Its absolutely inexcuseable

Overall Rating : 10
What a great first tube amp that will keep you satisfied for many years. For me its my gigging amp. Durable, light, great sound, if I need louder, I just mic into the PA, but trust me it gets plenty loud

Tweed covering, Volume and Tone control. Vey Zen-like indeed. However if you don't want to wake the neighbours, you might find yourself wishing for a master volume.

Sound Quality : 8
Quite good. It has the classic Fender tone that turns very crunchy (in a vintage way) when you crank it. My own personal sweet spot was with the volume and tone knobs about half way up. I should note the outstanding dynamics of this amp: with my p-90 loaded Hamer special I could really go from clean to crunch just by controlling my picking hand. Nice.

I didn't notice a signifigant amount of hum, but the amp/cabinet was pretty noisy. I'm not sure what was clanging around in there. I did apply some insulating plastic over the springs on the tube holder: this dampened the noise a bit. The other thing is that compared to other amps, the Pro Jr. sounds a bit small (I never really noticed when I was playing by myself). This is probably due to the 1 - 10' speaker configuration. But it's a nice sound, overall.

BTW, I tried feeding my POD into the Pro Jr., but it didn't sound particularly good.

My biggest complaint, however, was the volume. As someone who plays in the house rather than on the stage, I found that the amp was too loud to be really useful. I frequently ran it with just one output tube, which helped quite a bit. Even with one output tube pulled out however, the Pro Jr. was louder than my friend's vintage Vibrolux. So depending on your playing situation, this might be a 10, or it might be a 6.

Reliability : 5
The chassis wasn't finished properly and started to rust near the tubes. But that's not the worst of it... This amp was probably a couple of years old when I bought it. I owned it for about 3 years and then sold to a friend of a friend. A few weeks later, I heard through the grapevine that the transformer (or something) had blown and that the poor guy had to spend about $100 to bring it back to life! Poor guy.

Customer Support : No Opinion

Overall Rating : 8
Despite its faults, I liked this amp. It wasn't the amp for me, but it's a good choice for those who need a portable package with which to jam. It would also be useful in a multiple amp setup. If it was stolen, I'd probably get a Blues Junior instead, but then again the world of modelling amps is becoming much more competitive.

This is a typical "back_to_the_roots_Amp" !
1. a power-On switch
2. a tone-control (high-cut-filter)
3. a volume-control (loud enough for club-gigs)
...that's all and it works ! :-)
(The internal speaker has a real high efficiency !
The mids and the treble tones are as loud as a Celestion Vintage 30.)
And a real annoying feature is the BIG HUM and MICROPHONIC and HUMMING V1 TUBE (12AX7-WA --> Fender-GrooveTubes ...lol...pull out the V1 Tube on the left side, send it back to Fender, maybe that they can make a crispy soup out of it, but don't use it as a V1 in ProJunior Amps)

Sound Quality : 8
Before I started to play with this "little wild thang" I have fixed the screw problem (middle screw of the back-cover next to the poties).I also have changed the tubes (my dealer gave some new, working ones for free) .
As phase-converter you can leave the 12AX7-WA, it does not influence the sound that much.
As V1 I have tried JJ-Tesla ECC83-S (NO HUM :-) , and big punch in the mids and bass).
I also have have tried a Sovtek 12AX7-LPS as V1 (NO HUMMING too , tight basses and crisp highs...good if you play it with a 2x12 or 4x12 box)
The sound of this little amp is good for Blues and Rock-Music.
Set the volume to 5-6 and tone-control to 9 and it kicks ass.
The variety of this amp mostly depends of the guitar you use with it.

I mostly use it with my self-made Custom-Strat (HSS) .In the bridge-position is a Gibson Humbucker and in the middle-, neck-position are some of the first Seymor-Duncan single-coils one could buy here (~25 years ago). That's the easiest way to have the biggest variety with this amp (one guitar , one kabel , one amp )

Sometimes I use it with some effects too (Bluesdriver BD-2, DigitalDelay DD-5 and Cry-Baby WahWah).

Reliability : 8
I have bought it new a half year ago ...
...never have had any problems with it , with the new tubes inside !

I have looked for Fender-Support in the internet, when I had this hum-problem , but did not find a phone number or email-adr. ...
...maybe that they have hidden , due to the BIG HUM problem of the ProJunior !!??

The hints to solve this problem I found here in Harmony-Central and other Internet-Places...

Meanwhile I play Guitar for 30++ years...
I also have a VHT 50-ST, and Marshall Studio 15, Reussenzehn LEO...but this Fender ProJunior is another great amp for beginners, tube_amp_lovers and Fender_Enthusiasts !

This little "LIGHT-WEIGHT" thang rocks ...
...if it will be stolen or broken I would buy a new one again (including a set of tubes for free of course... :-) )

GET RID OF THE HUM AND BUZZ!!!!

It's stupid easy. My dad did some research on the net and found this.

"The cause of the hum is a screw that is too long, and it touches the volume pot, causing a ground loop = HUM. to get rid of it, simply unscrew the top middle screw of the back cover plate, and it should go away."

I tried it with mine, and IT WORKS. So easy, and very helpful. Now I can record with it.

Take off the back cover plate and make sure that the rectangular metal shield plate isnt touching the volume/tone pots either. That will cause hum. Just bend it back a little if it is touching.

THANK YOU to THE FENDER FORUM PRO-JUNIOR CLUB ? you guys solved the "hum" mystery of this little amp.

Overall, after the "fix". this is seriously the best little tube amp you can get for your money. Make sure you haggle. If you paid ful price, youre just plain dumb. Besides, haggling is fun. Walk into guitar center waving cash, and they'll definately come down in price.

Before the buzz fix, this amp was ALMOST unuseable.

I had a good deal for a canvas first model, a volume and a tone controle knobs.

I love 60's 70's tones, at low volume with a Strat, it gives a clean black-face tone, pass 4-5 it crunch, after that, it drives a lot of powerfull overdrive and without any feedback, add some reverb and few pedals, you have a killer tone.

Reliability : 1
it sounded nice for a short period, but had tube problems.

2001 Fender Pro Jr.
1 channel Volume/tone straight foward Amp.
Can produce many musical styles depending on guitar setting.
I used many other amplifiers and I have found out that this small amp really enables me to customize my sound by utilizing more of the guitars volume and tone capabilities then the amplifiers.

Sound Quality : 10
I play a Les Paul with mini Humbuckers. With the amps volume turned to about 4-5 you can just roll your volume up or down according to how much overdrive you want. You will need some type of reverb for this amp to achieve any real presence. I chain through a overdrive a VOX wah and a Yamaha DG stomp( set on a very clean amp simulation). My amp came stock with Groove tubes and I feel that they are just fine, don't waste money changing tubes. If you really want to hear something impressive do what I did and unplugged the stock speaker and run the output to a Mesa Boogie 1-12 cab. You really need to hear this little guy through a Boogie Speaker. Go to your local guitar center and ask them to run it through a Boogie 1-12. Everybody in the store will want to know what you are playing. It will have a very smooth tone with strong bass response and perfect overdrive. I also split my signal so half goes to this combo and the other to a clean PA channel.

Reliability : 9
So far this amp has been very reliable but the same is for all Fender tube amps. I do gig with this amp in a jam band situation with a older crate for a backup, that so far I never had to use.

Features : 9
It is a USA made, used tweed Jr. with the blue frame 10 inch alnico speaker (I assume, although it's just some blue speaker). It has an input jack, volume knob, and tone knob, on & off switch and small red pilot light.

Someone said the features, being "minimal," are Zen like. I'd agree. A 15 watt tube amp, tweed and retro like this one, should have but a couple of features, max. Like a vintage Harvard or Princeton. Of course, the reverb thing seems a hitch, but whatever. I don't miss it that much. But that is why I'll go 9.

Sound Quality : 10
I'm playing my Franken-Stat through it, my most versatile # 1 guitar. It has Seymour Duncans: single coil in the neck and middle, and Lil 59 humbucker (double single coil) at the bridge. Lately I put BOSS DS-1 - LINE 6 DELAY to amp, sometimes DOD PHASER in front of everything, and often just play direct.

So, I played a Pro Jr. at Black Market Music in Los Angeles months ago, and the volume to drive thing really bit. It is clean, and you can play open or barre chords and it has a nice sustain and some chimey harmonics, then if you play harder, and/or turn it up, you get some full overdrivey sound that immediately reminds you of old great guitar players who got to play direct into great tube amps and come up with great guitar parts. This is why I bought it, after trying several around town, and then buying one on E-bay for $290... $30 more than I could get a new one at the Guitar Center. (I'd read about the tweed, USA, blue speaker preference, and decided to go for it, even though the new ones don't sound much different.)

Oh yeah, sounds... so it came, and it buzzed. But it had GREAT tone. Read below and at Fenderforum.com about the buzz/noise. Same thing. Got new tubes from dougstubes.com: matched JJs for power, and JJ ECC 83s for phase inverter and Groove Tube ECC83 for first preamp. It sounded weird, then settled in and got rid of the buzzing and rattling. I also took off the tube holder springs (mine seem to be staying in.) But is still has a minor white noise hiss. Took it around, and it's less than 4 others, one blonde used (which was pretty quiet), two black new at GC, another new black one. Then I tried the original Fender made in China 12ax7 from the phase inverter position in preamp one. Like I thought: it is very quiet now. When I practice, I leave in that lower gain tube in one, and don't hear the very quiet hiss at all at low volumes. For jamming loud, I put the Groove Tube (higher gain, and louder) preamp tube back in.

Well, the buzzing issue is a deal with this amp. But that's my story. I love the amp now, and play for hours, and am inspired. In my buddy's garage, like 12 by 12 feet square, I can hang and/or overpower his aggressive drumming. Can't say the clean sounds at lower volumes overpower him, but he shouldn't be killing it when I'm playing clean anyway. Haven't played her live yet.

The amp distorts very nicely over 4 or 5 (of 12), and makes me play direct quite a bit, even though I like some pedals, just like everybody.

The distortion is not brutal, but very musical and pretty raunchy. Pedals get you enough distortion through it, even though it doesn't quite get metal-like saturation. 10, even though I haven't played many blackfaces and older little combos, and want to dream some too.

Reliability : 9
I've only had it for a few months, and with new tubes, don't expect much problem. In the past, fuses and tubes are the problems I've had with amps playing live. My Fender Bassman 100 I gigged without a backup. But these questions, and the thought of playing Jr. stereo with another or something else, is making me consider bringing a big amp or getting another little 'un as a backup. But Fender is built like tanks, I think.

Customer Support : 9
Haven't tried to deal with Fender; and it's old(ish) and out of warranty. Everyone works on Fenders though. Funny Fender story: inside my amp the sticker is "Fender Blues De Ville." Nice!

Overall Rating : 10
I've been playing bass about 20 years, guitar about 15, off and on. If it were stolen, I probably would get another. It is so simple and has immediate tone and resposne. I think most people love 'em because we get that amazing round tone and bite from the tubes, at levels we can enjoy. Sure a Twin sounds great, but who gets to practice with those things naturally overdriving??

It must be said that I A/B'd this amp next to a Blues Junior (less harmonics, less pure tone) and a blackface Champ (small and wasp-like and kind of annoying tone). Jr. was the clear choice to me. I also tried an Ampeg Jet I liked. I think the Pro Jr.'s average SOUND rating ought to be in the 9s, like some other great amps, Deluxe Reverb, which averages like 9.5 on this site.

As everyone else said, the features don't get any simpler. Tone and volume. 15W is perfect for just about anything, and the external speaker out makes up for any lack of volume you could think of. I've been converted to little amps by this bugger alone!

Sound Quality : 8
Played w/ a Lone Star Strat as well as a Steinberger doubleneck guitar/bass, both sound great (of course, the Fender gets the more traditional sound.) Even the bass side of the Steinberger sounds cool through it.

Let me be clear that I swapped out the stock tubes for matched JJ Teslas, and put in a Reverend 10" speaker. The microphonic buzz that people complain about (and it was present when I received the amp) disappeared, and there was a bit more low end. Breaks up quite nicely after about 4-5 on the volume. Sounds INCREDIBLE when pushed w/ my Klon Centaur through a 4/12 cab.

The only drawbacks are a bit of noise/hum underneath, and the low end is a little lacking (although that's greatly lessened when playing through a bigger cab.) Minor drawbacks, though, and well worth tolerating for the price tag.

Reliability : 7
Stock, I have to give it a 7, since the tubes left a lot to be desired, and the microphonic buzz was a bit distressing.

After switching the tubes and speaker, it would get a 9. But since we're talking stock...

Customer Support : No Opinion

Overall Rating : 8
All in all, a great amp that's louder and sweeter than you would expect. I plan on getting a second amp and running them in stereo. If you're looking to use it outside of the bedroom, I'd suggest maybe getting something to push it like the aforementioned Centaur or maybe a ZVex Super Hard-On, as well as having a cab available if the performance situation isn't suited to mic the amp. Still, even after the mods that I did, it ran about $300, and I couldn't ask for anything better in that price range. I like it better than the Blues Junior and the little Peavey that everyone compares it to. I haven't tried the new Hiwatt that just came out, however, but I imagine that w/ the EL84's, it's comparable to this beauty (although it runs close to $500.)

Here is the ubiquitous update to an earlier review. This may be common sense to most people but I figured why fix anything until you have to: changing the tubes greatly reduced the otherwise considerable background hiss. Mine came with Sovteks. I changed them out for new GTs. Now the amp is louder with less hiss. Simple, right? I'm lazy and cheap, that's why I didn't bother. Until now.

2003 Fender Pro Junior. 1x10 15 watts. single channel. One volume knob, one tone knob. Black tolex bought brand new in 2003. I play Hank to Hendrix with it. Amp's volume can hold up un-miked on a medium to small stage as long as your drummer isn't loud. For large stages or/and a loud drummer, throw a mike on it. Your singers and mix guy will love you for this amp. One tone knob gets you all that you really want out of an amp for tones. Just like the old tweeds. If you like to toy with amplifier knobs; pick something else. If you like to toy with guitar knobs; pick this one. One may argue that a two knobbed amp cannot be versatile, but I own and play many amps with all kinds of knobs that isn't as versatile sounding as this one one.

I can make all my guitars sound good with this amp. This amp had a great way of bringing out all my guitar personalifties. Strats, Teles, Old SG, Les Paul Jr all sound great. My playing style is a mix of rock, blues and country. This amp is very pedal friendly, especially for us guys from the 70's school who still use old MXR and Boss stompboxes daisychained. Especially noteworthy is the puke green Ibanez TS9 and red MXR Dynacomp. This amp is as noisy and quiet as any other one around. Be conservative with your pedal settings. It doesn't take much to goose up this 15 watter. If you hear white noise when not playing, chances are your amp and pedal settings may be too aggresive. One of my favorite sounds that I find with other amps hard to get at a low volume is my Allman Bros slide sound. THIS AMP DOES THAT WITH MINIMAL WORK without the singers looking at me holding their hands over their ears! TS9 12:00 on all three knobs. It's that easy.

Reliability : 9
I usually don't gig without a backup as habit. But I would gig without a backup without too much fear. Amp is still relatively new, so I don't expect too many problem for the next 30 years or so. There were no out of the box bugs or immediate problems and that is a good sign for me with new amps.

I've never dealt with Fender. Just their dealers. My normal amp guy who isn't part of the whole warranty (claims denial) process saves me from all those headaches.

Overall Rating : 10
HOWEVER, I'VE DONE SOME MODS TO MAKE IT SOUND GOOD: I took it's junk ceramic "boxey - waxy" speaker out and replaced it with one of my Fender Blue alnico's from my Bassman. I also replaced both pre-amp tubes with some very old 5751's I had lying around. And I also clipped the negative ground loop from the output transformer as suggested in this column. All of these mod's (especially the speaker) transformed this plain jane sounding supermarket special into a jacked up tweed on steroids. This amp breathes tone at any volume and have had other guitar players comment to me about it. I own Fenders, Marshalls, and many 50 and 60 combos and this little Fender does the trick for me any where, any gig, any place. For the future, I' going to buy another one, split it with a stereo chorus on bigger gigs. I'd also like to try a Weber A100 speaker with it to see how it'd sound. BY THE WAY, THE BEST WAY TO GET THE SOUND OF THIS AMP is to keep it on the floor 4-6 feet behind you, tilt it slightly back with one of those black plastic ashtrays and keep all surrounding clutter away from it's sides and back. Let this amp breath. Much of the clarity of it's sound comes from it's cabinet, so don't stifle it.

I'm not sure what year this amp was made.
I play straightahead jazz. Hence, I don't quite need lotsa different types of tones. I just need one killer type of tone --- and this baby delivers it in spades.
I've had this amp for almost a month now and have used it at a number of club gigs and for one recording session. I'm very, very, very happy with the sound I've been getting.
One minor niggle, though --- I wish this amp had reverb!
I've been using it in conjunction with a Boss digital reverb pedal and though the Boss' reverb is fine, real spring reverb would be even better.
Power and volume haven't been an issue with me. These days I play with just a singer in a duo format (a la Joe Pass and Ella Fitzgerald or Tuck and Patti) so I don't really need to pump out major decibel levels. But I think this little tone monster would have more than enough cojones to hang out with a full band. I feel I get more than enough stage volume with this amp to play most anywhere, with most everyone.

Sound Quality : 10
I'm using this amp with a custom-made Johnny Smith-style hollowbody archtop with a single floating mini-humbucker in the neck position.
This amp suits me and my style (straightahead post-bop jazz for the 21st century) perfectly.
After more than a decade of searching, I've finally found my holy grail of tone. This sound is ME. =)

Reliability : 7
It's been holding up to the past month's gigs so far. And I've playing out (on gigs, not just at home) almost everyday for the past month.
But then, I've also been very careful with this baby. Careful carrying her, careful transporting her, just plain careful. =)
(Tubes are expensive in this part of the world)

I tried it in a music store never having heard about them and thought this would be a great amp for recording, I was right.
A 57 mic pointed at the cone a little off axis perfect!
Turn the tone to about 6, volume distorts after about 4. I use a varidrive (tube) pedal and you would think it was a Marshall in the control room. Great classic rock sound.
I replaced the tubes with JJ's for preamps. The speaker is now an alnico magnet Weber VST P10R, very warm and thick classic rock tones, think Led Zep and STP.
This amp doesn't sound like a typical Fender, closer to a baby VOX AC 30.
It does hum a bit (not too loud), tubes come lose if you move it around alot.
I've also been carrying it around in my truck for gigs where I need to be quieter on stage. It's been scuffed and banged around, it been very reliable!

Reliability : 10
It's never failed me. Preamp tubes fall out sometimes (they're hanging upside down with nothing holding them in) just put them back in, it works.

I was interested in the difference between the Pro Junior and The Blues Junior so I bought both from Musicians Friens . com and compared the two for a couple of weeks. I sent back the pro junior for a refund and kept the Blues Junior. The pro junior had a lot of character for a little amp and if I was just needing a little amp for my own pleasure and in my own home with tube tone, this little pro junior would be IT! But I really needed an amp that would go with me from practice to gig to recording studio as a cool little amp with character for the cool tone, vibe and smaller size. I really would've kept the Pro Junior but its one flaw was not that it wasnt loud enough or cool enough or not enough good tone, but rather it was so noisy! As soon as you turn it on and the tubes warm up it starts humming in a loud annoying buzzing way and thats with nothing plugged into it. Like I said, in my own home that is acceptable, at band practice it was acceptable but for a gig *anywhere* or recording, I was gonna need to have it silenced what ever was making the humming noise. So anyways I sent it back for a refund and kept the Blues Junior, it was roughly 100 bucks more but it was buzz free, had 3 band EQ, a reverb that was OK (not great) two volume controls, the distortion was very cool on both the Blues Jr. and Pro Jr. - very similar sounds with the Pro Jr sounding a little "tighter" in the distortion area and sometimes bordering on "box-y" but always full of character this little pro jr. So the Blues Jr had the same cool quality, great fender tone, more features, more money and bigger and heavier but the Pro junior had great chracter and great price but I couldn't get past the annoying buzz the amp was making. Reading the other entries here it seems like that may be a common complaint? Anyways feel free to email me for clarification of anything here! I am a guitar teacher in the SF Bay Area California USA and always willing to help out as much as I can. BTW the Pro Junior was 249.00 and the Blues JR was 369.00 both in Blonde Tolex 2003 from musiciansfriend.com

I own multiple amps, guitars, basses, recording gear etc etc etc. If you need a cheaper Fender Amp with tube tone get the Pro Jr but be prepared to deal with the buzzing! If you have an extra 120.00 buck save yourself the extar expense down the road and get a Blues Junior now as it will grow with you as your needs (gigs etc) grow.

I play 84 american strat and epiphone les paul standard.I run my strat into a boss md-2 distortion,dd3 delay, and set my amp on 4.Can get thick, heavy rythem.Sound is amazing. What you want to do is turn guitar volume on 9 if using strat set amp volume just before it breaks up.Now your ready for distortion. Its important that you send distortion signal through clean amp.If amp is overdriven a distortion pedal will muddy your tone. You will have to adjust your pedal to taste ,but remember dont set output level on pedal past halfway.I have not found a better distortion sound than md-2 through pro jr..I only use delay for afew parts on a few songs.

Fender Pro Junior, bought it new, not sure if they make these in Mexico or USA. All tube, except the rectifier, 15 watts, Volume and Tone, 10" speaker, black with silver cloth grille.

This amp is a great amp for me, I'm not a serious player, I just play in my bedroom, so I just wanted a simple little practice amp, but all tube. I bought the amp for it's simplicity, but it's almost too simple. I think a gain channel would've been nice so I could have distortion at lower levels, turning the volume on the guitar down isn't the same, and I also think they should put jewels on the amp, not just the cheap little piece of colored plastic, so I'm retro fitting a blue jewel.

Nice amp, looks pretty cool to, kinda oldschool, but it's a little too simple and has no jewel, so it gets an 8.

Sound Quality : 9
I have a MIM standard Tele and Strat and a Highway 1 Strat, the highway 1 is the best sounding, obviouly. It siuts my style fine, puting it up to three is enough, has a nice crunch. Basically I think it sounds fine, except for one of the springs on the holding clamp of the pre-amp tubes vibrates with a low "E", but I'm not sure how to fix that, I can't just put tape on it to dampen the spring because of the tubes getting so hot.

Awesome sounding amp, but because of the spring issue it gets a 9.

Reliability : No Opinion
I don't gig or play live, so I'm not sure if it would just be to small to use for that. I think it's very reliable though.

I'm not gonna rate it here because I'm not really using it in situations where that would be tested.

Customer Support : No Opinion
Didn't deal with them.

Started playing 7 years ago, started building guitars 6 1/2 years ago, and have focused more on building them. I would like to get back into playing and I think this is the perfect amp to do it with.

I would DEFINATELY replaced it if it got stolen or lost.

I love the fact that it's a tube amp first of all, and also it's simpleness and it looks really cool too.

Overall I'd give it a 9. It's almost too simple and has no jewel, but that doesn't bother me, I bought it because it was simple, I think it's a great buy for the money.

Zen-like in its minimal control layout (that sounded good, didn't it?). Two knobs - if there were more, guitarists wouldn't be able to figure it out. But this is all you NEED with this amp (although reverb would be nice). Replaced a Peavey Classic 20 (yuck) and the difference was night and day.

Sound Quality : 9
This would be my backup to my desert island amp (`53 tweed Deluxe). It is the ultimate cheap pocket-rocket. I play a variety of Strats and the odd Les Paul through it, mostly with vintage aftermarket pickups. It's fun by itself but really shines through a 2x12 or 4x12. Crank it up and go - use guitar volume to control distortion. When the EL84's get cooking, this little amp is a monster. I've gigged with it quite a bit (solo and small band). Sometimes a little distortion from a Rat is nice to push the amp a bit.

People don't realize what this amp can do. We'll keep it our little secret, ok?

Reliability : 5
This is where it falls down. The factory tubes rattled and the speaker blew out after a while. It was worth it to get some nice NOS tubes and a Mojo speaker - it's even more of a monster now.

I did my own work.

I've been mangling the fretboard for over 27 years. I own a Marshall 1/2 stack and various vintage Fender amps and have some clue about tone. There's something about EL84 distortion....

I would not hesitate to replace this amp if I had to - in fact, I'm thinking about another one just for fun - Pro Jr Stereo!!!

How could this amp be better? Better tubes+speaker, maybe a half-power switch for fun. Fender did a great job here - sometimes I wonder if they know what they have on their hands.

Very basic but necessary-volume & tone. Basic tube configuration, easy to find replacement tubes. functional simplicity.

Sound Quality : 8
Very good tone. In essence, it is a 1/4 size Bassman in features, looks, and weight. What Fender has done is given you a tweed amp at a bargain price. Typically I have found amps with el84's to be more Vox sounding, but Fender has given it their signature tweed tone. This is an old school blues or jazz amp suitable for small low volume gigs. The amp I bought used came with NOS Sylvania tubes and some NOS preamp tubes, plus a Kendrick Blackframe 10", and the tone is vastly improved from a stock unit.

Reliability : 8
Seems to be as heavy duty as any Fender ever made. It will be around in 20-30 years. Very roadworthy. Nice & light for rehearsals & jams.

Customer Support : 7
Fender is O.K. to deal with for a mass market co.

Overall Rating : 8
I have been playing for over 35 yrs and have owned just about every type and brand of amp. One of my favorite all-time Fender amps is the Super Champ, and I kick myself for selling the one I bought new. If this were lost or stolen, I would get the Blues Junior. Reverb is essential imho in a combo amp. This amp works well with a reverb pedal, but I dislike messing with extra chords and power supplies. The PJ is a wee noisy with a noticeable hum, but I have heard worse, and it is not a big deal. Most tube amps have quirks. If it had reverb it would be awesome. A Super Pro Junior - come on Fender, are you listening? This is the Volkswagen of guitar amps - functional simplicity on a budget...

Features : 2
I rate it a two since that's exactly how many features it has: tone and volume. It's a one-trick pony, but that pony just might win the Triple Crown.

Sound Quality : 10
Let me begin by saying I'm using it as is, totally stock. And it is a bit noisy the louder you get. But this is only an issue if you're recording. Playing with others, the noise isn't noticeable.
It's pretty loud, too loud for bedroom or apartment use if you want to crank it up and get the sweet overdrive. Currently I'm playing with a LOUD drummer and a bass player. The pro junior holds its own, but barely. There are times when I wish it had a bit more power. If you can mic it, or you have a considerate sound guy, it should work out fine.
Believe me, it's such a great sound when it's cranked. When it's quiet, it's a pretty sweet clean sound also, but it will stay clean. Lately, I've been using it with a Les Paul, keeping the junior on 12 and adjusting the volume with the guitar -- incidentally, this is the best way to keep sound guys happy; channel switching changes the volume and the EQ too much unless you're really paying attention. Anyway, with the guitar around 2 it's a slightly dirty tone. At 4, it's a good lead tone for blues and rock. Anything higher and it mostly just gets dirtier (a nice dirtier, mind you) without a whole lot of volume increase.
Overall, it's great going straight in with the volume cranked and making adjustments on your guitar as needed. Great for recording, jamming, and gigging, but for the latter two, you might be in need of a bit more juice or else a competent guy running the board.

Reliability : 9
As I said before, I'm using the stock tubes and speaker. Had it for four years now, working it hard for the last 6 months with no trouble. These are just jamming situations, though. On a paying gig, I would certainly bring extra tubes, just in case, although I would have to be sure of the venue and the sound before I even brought the junior. So, I'll give it a nine: no problems, but I would consider a backup just to be sure.

Customer Support : No Opinion
Any decent guitar store could fix whatever is wrong. It's a pretty simple and straightforward amp. Not much on it that could go wrong. But I've never dealt with Fender, nor would I have any need to.

Overall Rating : 10
Ask any pro what is the best rock/blues lead tone out there and they will likely tell you it's the pro junior. And for the price, it's a great addition to your arsenal. It's small, lightweight, and pretty loud. But keep in mind that in ordinary bedroom use you won't be able to get the sweet overdrive. And in jams and gigs, it might not have enough muscle. So think of what's most important. If you want to be sure you can be heard above everybody, just in case, you should look elsewhere. That said, for what it is, it's pretty tough. For what it is and what it can do, it's a ten.
Plus remember, tubes are cooler.

Newer model Pro Junior. Black tolex cover, "Fender Special Design" ceramic-magnet 10" speaker. 15 watts with 2 12AX7s and 2 EL84's. I use this amp a lot for jam sessions and band rehearsals because of it's light weight and portability. Very minimal features: Volume, tone, on/off switch, 8 ohm speaker out. I actually prefer a minimum of features, and for what this amp does I don't feel there's anything lacking. I use it with various pedals for different sounds.

Sound Quality : 7
I really like the warm clean tones of this amp. To me it sounds like a smaller version of the Bassman reissue. When cranked into power amp distortion it sounds okay, but I like to use a pedal on top of the power amp overdrive, either a Fulltone 69 fuzz pedal or a Mesa V-Twin on the blues setting for distortion, and both of these pedals color the tone of the amp very strongly when they're being used. The combination of the EL84 tube overdrive with the pedals gets a very cool, warm sustaining overdrive sound. The only problem is the amp is very noisy when played loud. It's like standing next to a waterfall. I've used the clean sound on recordings for 50's rock and jazz sounds and it sounded good, but it's too noisy for recording when turned up at half-volume or louder I find.
I use it with a Strat with Texas Specials and a Gibson Les Paul standard. It's sound works nicely with both guitars but seems to be better suited to the the Strat.

Reliability : 3
The amp hasn't failed me yet but it gets very hot when in use, I figure eventually the circuitry will basically melt. Another reason why I chose this amp is because it has a simple circuit and one day after I get a degree in electronics I'd like to rebuild this amp with quality parts.

Customer Support : No Opinion
I have not dealt with the company but eventually I would like to repair and design my own amps so I plan on dealing with any problems myself or with the help of a local amp tech guy.

Overall Rating : 7
I like the overall concept of this amp. Good fender tone, lightweight and low power for overdrive at more reasonable volume levels. With quality parts I'm sure this would sound even better and certainly last a lot longer than I expect it to. I got it because it was cheap and I didn't have a tube amp at the time. The noise level and build quality are the main points against it. I did eventually upgrade to a Mesa Boogie Blue Angel. Nicer tone, more control yet maintaining a simple design, no noise whatsover and the amp should last forever. I still use the Pro Junior a lot though.

This is a tweed cabinet Pro Junior that I bought in Taipei, Taiwan - where I now work and live. This is your basic no-frills amp - on/off switch, volume and tone knobs (which I knew when I bought it - so why would I give it low marks for features?). While I would love to have a Twin Reverb there's no point owning one when you live in an apartment. The Pro Junior is a great little amp.... Read on....

Sound Quality : 10
I have to give this a high rating in the sound department because it really is a nice sounding little amp. It has a pleasing, warm, sweet tone that starts to overdrive when you turn the volume up. Living here I needed a smaller amp with a nice tone that wouldn't blow the windows out and weigh 100 kgs... At the store I played every single smaller amp they had - which was surprisingly many and almost all solid state with all kinds of features. In my opinion, the warm tone of this Pro Junior blew them all away - a bit more expensive perhaps (partially just because it was imported from the US) but they just couldn't compare to the sound quality of the Pro Junior (I should mention that I don't play metal). I usually just play straight into the amp because I like the clean sound but run any kind of effect through it and it just screams! I play fusion, blues, rock, and jazz and this amp is great for those genres. I just played my Ibanez Artstar (John Scofield guitar) through it today for the first time and I was blown away by the nice jazzy tones I was getting when I backed off on the guitar's tone control. Can you tell that I really like this amp??!!

Reliability : 10
I've had it for 4 years now and haven't had any problems. It gets so humid here that at one point, to my surprise, the amp started to get mold all over it (yes, the weather here sucks....) but it hasn't affected the performance at all!

What can I say - this is a nice little practice amp. I have recorded it on my computer and it sounds great (although a POD is also a convenient alternative) - I think this is great amp for a home studio applications that don't require high amounts of volume. It has a great warm tone that will start to get a pleasing overdriven distortion if you crank it, and sounds great when used with effects units. I talked to Greg Koch (Favored Nations recording artist), who came to town a few months ago while doing promotions for Fender throughout Asia. His main purpose was to demo the Cyber Twin but I mentioned the Pro Junior to him and he had good things to say about the amp (of course this is what he gets paid by Fender for) and said that he had played many a gig through miked Blues Juniors and Pro Juniors (incidentally, the Blues Junior is a nice smaller amp as well - similar to the Pro Junior but with a bit more power). Overall, this is a great little practice and recording amp that I'm very happy with.

My Pro Jr. I traded a dead echoplex and $40 dollars for it.
Damn good deal. The echo cost me 20.
I think it is a 96 but I can't be sure.
I use this amp to play blues or roots rock or psychedelic . It has the vintagey sound .
It has no features as everyone has said. That lets you get right to the playing / and telegraphs the actual sound of your instrument.
I usualy use it for rehearsal or recording or a gig. I don't play it much at home. Mine is tweed .
and it sounds tweed. Don't look for a "classic fender" 60's blackface sound here. This is old-timey.

Sound Quality : 8
It sounds good with my tele-sonic, and SCREAMS with a Les Paul w/ P90's.
I just played it an hour ago. It sounds extremely warm and soulful.
That was at volume 1+1/2. Usually I would put it about 5 and the volume at half.
It makes one good sound.
Sometimes it rattles. This is the preamp tube. Wrap it in a cardboard thing that raw tubes come in and tape it up tight. It won't catch fire. Everything everyone says is true. It rattles hums buzzes annd the volume changes itself and sometimes it gets local radio.
It is the Rawest truest thing going and sounds good.
I put it on a chair and at volume 5 it is still too loud for a cheapo gig. Must be me.
It makes a very good clean sound, and a GREAT distortion.

Reliability : 8
I have used it on mmany gigs. As everyone says they all seem to come with one bad tube. I put in Mesa tubes whhattever they are and it works pretty good. Carry a spare tube or two.
The only REAL p[robkem I had was at an outdoor gig where the power was bad and the resultant overdistortion fried my speaker.
Otherwise it is quite reliable and easy to carry..

been playing 40 years.
I have a 67 Bassman. Fender75. Gretsch amp. mesa subway.
The Subway is like a more refined projr and I use it when I need a classA type sound or more clean headroom or reverb or a line out all of which the subway does good.
If it were stolen I'd be mad .
I love the sound hate the noise, but that is the price of going back to a REAL tube sound.
I saw it and saw that the store guys were dealing in echos and took a shot. Always I am told I am too loud. I thought it would help. I guess I just suck.

I have read in these reviews about not enough headroom on the clean sound on this amp. In my opinion that is missing the point. How many times have you went and jammed with your buddies and really gave a thought about your clean sound. Now i'm not making light of the fact that a great clean tone is important it's just to me the clean on this amp is just the path to a very satisfying classic overdrive. I mean were electric guitar players right and the golden tone is the overdrive sound you hear in your head or at least that's what i have spent 17+ years trying to achieve. It is amazing to me after all the different amps, effect processors, and countless dollars wasted over the years that it comes down to this little 15 watt combo. I have a late 70's ibanez artist totally stock and when plugged into a ts-9 into this little beast this thing rocks. This amp begs to be cranked. I also have a strat and to be honest with you i can't say which one i like better. I agree that you need to keep your effects to a minimum. I use a crybaby, mxr dynocomp, mxr phase 90, ts-9 and that is it. In the past i have always been a sucker for effects, especially delay, and wouldn't buy an amp without reverb but with this pro junior i don't miss it at all. This amp made me realize that all i was doing was covering up a sound that really didn't cut it. Now i'm not saying this amp is ready to knock off the marshalls, matchless or mesas of the world because every thing has its place, it's just that i have made the mistake (as others surely have) of buying more watts than you need.In the old days I used to have a jcm 800 100 watt stack that sounded great when turned up but playing live i don't think i ever turned the power amp past 4 or 5, pure stupidity. The only drawback that i can tell about this amp is it doesn't have quite the bottom end that you might be used to but the sound is so smooth and convincing i'll take that trade off. Besides a 2x12 will help that and if you play in a band mike it through the pa. I plan on buying a second one with 2x12 ext cabs for each. I have done some of the mods mentioned in previous reviews with changing the stock tubes and weber blue pup speaker and have to say they made a big difference in tone.

No problems so far.

I have owned lots of gear over the years and never worried about the cost if it was what i wanted. This pro junior is quite a bargain considering the sound i'm getting. It's an amp for all us regular guys that play in somebody's living room when the wife is gone for the day or your buddy's garage. I'm sure there is something out there that will be better so when you find it go ahead and pull the plastic out because your probably going to need it. I'll keep this one.

Using with a twin humbucker St Blues, Fender Tele and a Dillion LP copy. Sounds like a solid state amp with all my guitars. No tone - no mids - no lows - very brittle sounding. Had my tech check it out - everything functioning. This amp is a huge disappontment. Fender tone? Give me a break. Either of my Champs put this Pro Jr to shame. Big disappointment but now at least I know that Pro Jrs are a p.o.s.......

I have a stock Fender Tele and the tone with this amp is absolutely incredible! I've read all kinds of reviews concernining rattle, poor stock tube quality, shitty stock speaker. What a load of crap! This amp is as perfect as you'll find.

This amp is pure tone and handles blues, rock n' roll and country with a vulgar display of power. The clean is clean and it breaks up nicely when driven. Somewhere Duane Allman must be smiling!

Hey Chongo, if all you play (or can play) are heavy thrash metal power chords, it would be a good idea to get something else.

What would I change about the amp? Absolutely Nothing!

This is a black tolex MIM model -- late 2002 production. Volume knob goes from quiet (0) to loud (about 8) and from there to more distorted. Tone knob acts in a subtle but interesting way -- it seems to act on the accented freqs in the midrange. Low settings give a Tweed vibe, higher settings give a better Plexi sound than any combo Marshall's built in the last dozen years. Oh, yeah, there's an input jack and a cheezy-looking indicator light. (Memo to Fender -- I'd have paid $20 more for this amp to get a proper jewel light).

Sound Quality : 9
I use a '78 Strat with stock pickups, a Strat Plus, and a '66 Jazzmaster. Low volume gives nice warm clean sounds -- more Tweed (or maybe Ampeg) than Blackface, really, but nice stuff. It's a great jazz tone with the right guitar (the Jazzmaster really sings here). Higher volumes take you into full-howl blues tweed and beyond, right up to something *really* close to a cranked Plexi Marshall (tho not as loud, obviously). We got some great Led Zep vibes going with the volume on 12, the tone on about 8, and a Strat Plus with a red Lace Sensor in the bridge position. Wonderful stuff. That said, if you're a shredder, keep shopping, because this puppy is strictly old school.

Reliability : 9
The factory tubes were *terrible* -- the tone was OK but there were a lot of strange noises and overtones. Swapping in a set of quality tubes made a huge difference. Other than that, it hasn't let me down yet. I don't get what all the bitching about MIM quality is about -- this thing is as well assembled as any gear I own.

Customer Support : No Opinion
No clue. I didn't bother trying to fight with Fender to get new tubes -- I had planned on replacing them anyway, and I did.

Overall Rating : 10
I might, at some point down the road, try a Weber or Jensen speaker. Other than that, this little critter's a keeper, with absolutely amazing tone for the money. It's a great grab-it-and-jam amp with lots of useful tones for blues, jazz, and classic rock, and volume enough to keep up with a drummer. I do worry vaguely about the low-cost pots and jack, but as long as it keeps going I'll keep it around.

I'm running an '96 Am. Std Strat with red, silver and blue lace sensors. It's an absolutely amazing beast! It stays clean up until about 6-7 (out of 12) then it breaks into power tube overdrive. The clean is increadibly sparkly and the overdrive is quite nice. They're loud enough to play a small gig and with a 4x10 or 4x12 I imagine it could push enough air to cover a bit larger of a venue and besides, you can always mic them.

I have two Blues Juniors. One I just bought new for $250 from a little music shop in central PA. It was brand new old stock, blonde tolex and oxblood grill. The other one is a late black late model. They both sound the same. I am looking for a tweed one. Not many features but it sounds great for blues guitar and bluesy rock. One tone and one volume with a on/off switch. The class A tube amp uses two EL84 tubes to push out 15 watts. Has a solid state rectifier. This amp has been used in my home but would probably be loud enough for a small bar gig. I use my Reverend Hellhound for playing out. If good tone at a fair price was a feature I would give it a 10. It is what it is and does that very well. A simple tube amp that delivers a fair amount of volume with good tone.

Sound Quality : 10
It is clean a lower volumes but breaks up as you turn the dial up. I usally peg the voulme dial almost to full and control wanted voulme and break up with the guitar voulme. I have always liked simple amps and this is the way I normally do things. The amp is a little noisy but you can move it around to find a quite zone. I have picked up AM stations by holding my guitar high up. The distortion is very crunchy blues, very pleasing. Again for the price hard to beat.

Reliability : 10
I have heard of some people having circuit board meltdowns, etc. I have never seen one. I has been a very reliable amp. The top does get a little warm when it has been on for a bit. Someone should come up with a point to point kit for these. For $200 or so you could pick up a used Pro Junior and for another $150 or so a kit could make this into a total monster.

This is a 2001 Fender Pro Junior. It is for playing blues and rock. Period. The *obvious* features are the volume knob and the "tone" knob (which mildly overdrives the amp). Not so obvious, but important, is the negative feedback loop, which will refuse most if not all current from the pickups, meaning that a vintage guitar with older magnets will still sound great...

Sound Quality : 8
I play a fairly stock strat and a danelectro u-2 through this amp.
It varies only in volume and tone - produces an amazing blues tone for size/price. With tone dialed up, it breaks up very nicely at moderate volumes. IMO, the pleasing tone on this amp is due as much to the lack of stuff between the input and the tubes than anything else. I haven't found a stomp box yet that doesn't strip all of the character out of the amp. It like it to drive a bit more, but expect that this could be achieved with a tube refit.

BTW, there is one thing you can do with this amp that costs nothing and dramatically improves the tone - get it off the ground. It can be a bit muddy sitting on the ground, but cuts through much better a few feet off of the ground.

Reliability : 10
As reliable as tube amps get - I've had tubes come loose once or twice. I never play without a backup - if push came to shove, I could run my RP300 straight to the board, but I'd be an unhappy guy playing this way.

Volume, tone, and one input jack. Perfect for blues and any recording. Does great with my strats and tele, not really made for a gibson guitar, sometimes you will get the vibe with it at high volumes. I like it where there is hardly any knobs to use, it makes it better so you have the "tone" every time! EL84 and 12AX7 Fender Groove Tubes stock.

Sound Quality : 9
It has tone. I get early SRV sounds through it, I also get Cropper sounds with my tele. I think it works best with a telecaster. I play blues and it has the smooth overdrive breakup. Perfect for the band practice sessions. I think that this amp is for anyone that knows that less features could be really good. Does not sound as good as my Super Reverb RI, but I prefer to record with it more for its breakup.

Reliability : 2
I replaced the tubes with Groove Tubes, not fender tubes, but the real ones. Made the amp 100% better. More Class A feel to it. I tried electro-harmonix preamp tubes, but it did not sound like GT's. I also had the input jack replaced with one that is not soldered directly on the board. cap # C11 blew up and I got it replaced with a NOS millitary grade. The amp still worked even with the cap removed. I wish it had a bias pot installed, but I don't care what it does with different tubes, I will use GT's in it for now on. Maybe install mullards, i don't know. After all the fixups the amp is like a tank, its been dropped and had all the accidents an airport can give it. I carry it in my luggage when i travel.

Have to have the reciept for everything. I just go do repairs third party, and sometimes myself.

I've been playing for a few years and I owned many amps, and this and my Super Reverb is the best I've owned. If it were stolen, I would not buy a new one, maybe buy the tweed model. Or make a new one by scratch. or build a tweed deluxe. Sounded better than the cyber twin cause of the tube power amp than solid state the CT has. The best bang for buck fender offers. I could cut through lead with this amp. I played with people that used 80-100 watt rms amps and this cut right though it (barely). The loudest 15 watt amp in history for being class AB.

Hey there! My name's Pete and I'm a bass-aholic. I bought my Pro Junior when I was 16, so that's about 1996. There was a sale on them at my local music shop (John Bellone's) and they had about 10 or so. I paid, I think around $320 for mine (plus selling a 50 watt Traynor head towards it... kinda wished I still had that beast. Too heavy! Needed something portable.) and let me say that it's NEVER let me down! The tubes are still the originals, but I think some fresh ones may do some good. Also, it has that real cool tweed covering. So, at the time I wanted it for guitar purposes, but who would have known if you unpluged the internal speaker and connected it to a 2 x 15 cabinet, add a bass guitar, that the little bugger would prevail as a monster!

Granted, the amp is simple, but it has balls! I really like how the higher volume increases overdrive response. Personally, I prefer having one tone control then a 3 band or graphic EQ's. Less fiddeling with knobs is such a relief! I don't mind if i dosn't have reverb or more then one input. I have a 70's silverface twin reverb for that kind of stuff, plus vibrato. For what it is, it can't be beat! I wish there was a more powerful model of this amp. It's big enough for jamming or small gigs, but with a good microphone in front, you could play... well, anywhere.

Sound Quality : 10
I play a Fender P/J bass, so, to those of you who are ignorant, that means it's a precision bass with a jazz pickup in the bridge. I'm more reliant on the P bass pickup for my growly tone, but the jazz adds some nice high end deffinition and clarity to the overall sound. With bass, the little 10 inch, 30 watt speaker is fuzzy. Too fuzzy almost. So as I said before, I have it play through a 2 x 15 cab (Traynor with force speakers), and that really helps. The amp output is 8 ohms, and the cab is 16. I set the volume to 4, and the tone more or less the same. It dosn't get much louder past 5 anyways, just more dirt, and with a precision humbucker, it won't take much to rock out! All my guitar knobs are maxed out. I can match my heavy handed drummer on a sonic level.

The great thing is the response to how I'm playing. The tone is cleanish when I'm driving the song along, but as I get into it, it dirties up beautifully. I play rock, so that's a good benifit. The only thing that stinks is that the vibrations from the internal speaker make the tubes rattle. It's like, annoying and stuff. Maybe new tubes would fix that(?). The tone is 'cream-y'.

Reliability : 9
The Pro Junior is reliable, and tough! It fell down a flight of stairs once, and all that happened was the handel bracket doo-dah bent a bit. Big deal! But I think I may live with that, hehe. The tweed is kinda dirty now, but I don't think I'll put it in the laundry machine.

Customer Support : No Opinion
My Pro has never needed to be fixed, so i havn't needed customer support. If anything does go wrong, I know a guy who fixes amps as a hobby/ small business out of his basement. I guess Fender would help me out, but I've never delt with them.

Overall Rating : 9
I've been playing for at least a decade now, and have accumulated a bunch of stuff along the way. I own a few guitars, pedels (I only use my Dunlop wah whenever), the Pro junior (with cabinet) a twin reverb, and enough cabels to play in the next town without moving the amp there. My guitars: Fender bass, 80's Jap Strat with humbuckers, a regular stratocaster, an accoustic (with an output... Feedback hell with the Junior), and a Gibson SG. I don't really play 6 string guitars anymore. Bass is where it's at! And by the way, it is a very powerful instrument. I lead the band! Guitars? You can keep 'em. I let other people break strings!

If my amp was stolen, I'd be pissed! A replacement would be okay, but they don't make them with the cool tweed and oxblood grill cloth anymore, just the less appealing black and silver.

I love this amp! It cuts the mustard! I just wish it was more powerful, say 100 watts or so. It is loud enough, but hey. I was so excited when I bought my Pro Junior. It had a great sound, only weighs 20 pounds, looks cool, and is a no brainer, which is good.

If you have an adventureous bassist, or lucky enough to know one at least, let 'em try it out. Bigger speakers make it sound, well, bigger and better! The Pro makes me sound like we don't even need a guitar player in the first place! I'm very happy to own my amp.

There are so few features on this amp that it's hardly worth me describing them! (As the guy below said "I think one of the knobs makes it louder!" Like your style man!)

This is not a versatile amp, but then that's hardly the point. I play blues guitar and harmonica and use a variety of amps for each job , depending on the venue and what I fancy using (For harp - Fender Blues De Luxe modded with 2x10" blue Jensens; Fender Super Champ; plus for guitar Fender Hot Rod De Luxe , Fender 75 head plus 2x12 cab, '71 Fender Bandmaster built into a "pseudo-Super 4x10" combo, Matchless Chieftain plus 4x10" cab; Trace Elliot Speed Twin). The Pro Junior is a small, compact, lightweight handful for casual gigs and sessions where you dont want to show up with a huge amp.

Having been a long-time Super Champ fan, I'd always fancied a Pro Junior for recording/small gigs etc as a slightly different flavour. Actually, I really like the Trace Elliot Velocette/Gibson Goldtone small amps, too, so I was looking forward to putting the Pro Junior up against one of them, for comparison purposes as well (see below).

Mine is the later black Tolex one and I wish it was tweed or blonde, as they look so much cooler! Reverb would be nice, too and so would tremelo - but then for #150 what do you expect?

A couple of other thoughts: I'd like to see some retaining/screening cans on the preamp tubes, but then that's a criticism that can be levelled at all the amps in this series. It would also be good to see protective corners fitted to stop the vinyl getting ripped in transit. I know this would go against the "vintage tweed" vibe, since the of Fifites amps never had 'em, but then mine isn't a tweed amp anyway! I've ended up fitting Fender-style chrome protectors to the bottom corners of my De Luxes - that's where they take the knocks - and I'll probably do likewise with the P-J when I get round to it.

Sound Quality : 7
When I first got this amp (I bought it, used, in an E-Bay auction from someone who lived about 100 miles from me and a friend collected it for me) it sounded absolutely terrible! It had very little volume and no clean headroom at all - in fact it was about as toneful as a #20 battery-powered micro amp! Fortunately, I knew this was not how it should sound - a combination of H-C reviews and the fact that my good friend Gordon Russell gigs his Pro Junior with the excellent Two-Timers (http://www.drfeelgood.de/2timers/) and gets a GREAT sound. Fortnately, the vendor was not only an honourable person, but worked in a music ship with its own amp repair man, so I shipped it back to her and she fixed it for no extra cost. Nice one Kathy!

I play blues guitar and harp in bands and at jams and in the studio. For guitar, I mostly use Strats and Teles, sometimes with an overdrive (Voodoo Labs Sparkledrive is the current favourite) Nobels Tremelo and a Danelectro Rocky Road Leslie simumator (with the mod suggested by H/C reveiwers).
For harp I use an Astatic JT30 mic.
This amp is surprisingly loud on its own and while the amount of clean headroom is not enough to gig everywhere without mic'ing through the PA, you could play small gigs very easily, if you were happy to live with a bit of grungy overdrive. (A big plus iin my book!)
I was curious to see how this would shape up alongside my Super Champ and I have to say that it's not quite so loud, but it's not far off. Obviously it's nowhere near so versatile, tonally and the overall sound is rawer and much more edgy.

Against my mate Dave Werewolf's Gibson Goldtone GA15 /Velocette 10, the Pro Junior held its own very well. Ostensibly these are similar amps - both have one volume, one tone, two EL84 power tubes and a ten-inch speaker. The Gibson/Trace is class A. (I don't think the Fender is, though I would be happy to be corrected on this point.) Anyway, there was very little to put between the Gibson and the Fender in terms of volume, though the Gibson sounds "bigger" somehow and less middly - it does have a bigger cabinet, which probably accounts for some of it, though I also think the "typically Fender" voicing on the Pro Junior also makes it rather brasher-sounding.

(NB: If you like small tube amps, check out the slightly larger Gibson GA15R or the Trace equivalent, Velocette 15R, which has a beautiful Fendery reverb and a 12" speaker and is for my money, the best small amp on the market bar none. You can gig these babies easily!)

Anyway, back to the plot... I've used Pro Junior for harp on several studio sessions and also live at a few smaller gigs and it has worked pretty well, though the inherent "boxiness" of a single 10" speaker in a small box does make the thing rather prone to feedback, especially with a very bright mic like the JT30. All the same, it's great to turn up for a gig with this in one hand and my harps and mic in the other and not break sweat!

For guitar, it's great for using around the house - it's taken over from the Super Champ (which is currently ailing and needs the attention of Dennis Cornell, my tech, when I get around to taking it to him) as my "house amp. I've also used it on a couple of gigs and for one studio session as a second amp, in tandem with my main amp, to add a bit of edge to a higher-rated main amp. It's great for this - use it with something like a Hot Rod De Luxe or a Twin, running reasonably clean , with the Pro Junior almost flat out overdriven and you've got a HUGE sound at a (fairly) manageable volume!

The extension speaker socket is useful (I had to fit one myself on the Super Champ!) and hooking it up to one of my extension cabs (a Matchless4x10 and a custom-bult open-back 2x12, both loaded with Celestions) makes a huge difference to the quality of the sound. You lose that boxiness and the thing just seems to "breathe" a lot more easily and give your playing much bett

Reliability : 9
This amp seems pretty well built. I'm not all that keen on the way the tube sockets are fitted through the chassis, or the fiddly retaining cradle for the power tubes, but apart from that and my comments above about screening cans for the preamp tubes, it all seems pretty solid.

A couple of weeks ago, I managed to drop my Pro Junior about two feet onto its back on concrete. I was expecting a dead amp on power-up, but I'm pleased to say it still works perfectly! Well done you chaps at Fender

Customer Support : 8
My amp guy, Dennis Cornell, also works for Arbiter , the UK Fender importers and he knows everything there is to know about fixing and maintainging Fender amps. (He also designs and builds some pretty mean amps of his own) I know other people have reported bad experiences with Fender in the UK, but my experiences have all been very good.

Overall Rating : 8
I have been playing for about 25 years and own a heap of gear, including about ten tube amps, maining Fenders.

If this were stolen or lost I would look out for a similarly-priced P-J and buy it if the price was right. I would not, however, pay more than #200 - mainly because I would still have the Super Champ to fall back on, so I could live without it.

I love the compactness, the light weight, the simplicity and the basic edgyness of the sound . I don't like the fact they don't make 'em in tweed any more, the lack of reverb and the fact that the sound gets boxy at higher volume settings.

I bought this because it was cheap, looked cute and I was curious to compare it with the Super Champ and Dave's Gibsons, all of which cost a lot more. For that reason alone, I would always find a place in my heart for one of these babies...

This is an update to my review last year. These are the later tweed models.

It still sounds great - so great that I bought another one and run them stereo. I played a jazz gig the other day with my Greco L-5 copy into a single Pro Junior and the sound was so traditional jazz...everybody commented on the tone...even my friend who gets the baddest tone!

I get more compliments on my tone than ever! I run an es-335 or my strat thru a Boss GT-3 and into both stereo and have never wanted for more volume. I could use a little more bass, so I may swap out the speakers and put some high-end tubes in to really tweak them.

When I bought the first one I played it side by side with a Blues Junior and I just LOVED the tone better.

I've been playing for over 30 years, have owned Fender Princeton, Super Champ, various Marshalls, Rivera, an early Boogie Mk I, have a Fender ProSonic that sits in the closet, and I think these are the best sounding amps I've owned. If they were stolen, I'd get more.

Features : 7
1 input: Volume: Tone: 10" Speaker: 2 x 12AX7s pre-amp tubes: 2 x EL84s power tubes: Solid State rectifier

Built 1995/6 (guess)

My Mod 1: Added DI line out (#28)
My Mod 2: Swopped the 12AX7s for 12AU7s
Possible third MOD: swopping the EL84s for NOS tubes
Possible fourth MOD: replace speaker with Weber or Jensen

As I am a harmonica player, playing though a variety of crystal mics, I got feedback from the amp with the volume at 2-4. With the pre-amp tube swop I can get a little more volume out without better control of feedback.

Wishlist features: Standby switch: reverb: headphone jack

I love how easily pportable this amp is.

Sound Quality : 8
I bought my Blond Pro Junior about six years ago. It was a shop demonstrator (had a couple of minor scuffs) and was sold below the list price. The sound is very nice and warm. Just right for the blues I play. The variety of sound really comes from which mic I plug into it. I tend to play with the volume and tone at 5-6. It is NOT noisy. It's just not loud enough by itself. Just mic it up or have a line out fitted and place it high up on some beer crates or some such. I play with a delay or delay/reverb pedal in front of it which livens it up right for me, my instrument and ears.

Reliability : 7
The speaker broke within one year. I like to travel light so I wouldn't carry a spare amp. I carry spare tubes but of it was unusable I'd simple play through the PA.

Customer Support : 6
Roka's (now World of Music) in Denmark Street, London, replaced the speaker and it has worked fine ever since. I've had no dealing with Fender on this amp. It's only a one-year warranty in the UK - not the five you get in the USA. That's disappointing.

Overall Rating : 9
I do like the sound. Very nice in a small handy package. I've been playing about 10 years but only gigging regularly for the past three. I'm now using a 59 Bassman RI to gig with ? it just has more of everything: tone, bottom end and you can always be heard. The line out fitted to the PJ works well, but the Bassman wins hands down. I use the PJ for quieter gigs, jams, practise and where there is little stage space. I have also lent it to a depping guitarist (it is much louder for guitar). I might use the PJ for recording. If the Pro Junior were lost or stolen I might replace it with the Blues Junior, for the added reverb and FAT swith, or maybe a Marble MAX amp (Dutch amp) or a classic valve Champ.

I play harp through my Tweed Pro Junior. In the beginning, I had the typical feedabck problem but solved that by changinh out the two p[re-amp tubes to 12AU7's or 12AT7's. Presently, the number#1 tube is a 12AU7 and the other is a 12AT7. This works best for me.
After playing through the Pro Junior for about two years, I started changing out the two EL84 power tubes. I found a matched pair of NOS GE EL84's. What a difference.
In addition to the tube change outs, I also replaced the stock speaker with an Eminence Legend 102 Blue Frame. Again what a difference. I have achieved the "Quest For Tone."
I use both Green Bullets and Astatic JT30's through this amp. I get a nice thick buttery tone to a thin buttery tone depending on what mic I use.
Some times a use a reverb pedal. I usually put the Volume control to 8. My main volume adjustment is achieved with the mic's volume control. I change the Tone control setting according to the song and mic being used.

Reliability : 10
This amp has held up beautifuilly. It even took a header and still played. Just get rid of those Fender tubes to get quality tone.
I purchased this amp from a music store. It was brand new in the unopened box. They just wanted to off it. Thank you Jesus.

I've played through other tube amps. This is my main amp because of portability.
Geez, I just need the sound tech dude to mic the darn thing, then I set my volume and tone controls, decide which mic I'm in the mood for, and I'm ready to go.
I might attempt to play it through a 2x10 or 2x12 cabinet.
If it were stolen, I'd get another in a heart beat.

This is just a tip for those who find the Pro Jr (like most all the Hot Rod Series - Blues Jr, Deluxe, Deville) leaning towards the stiff side tonally. A VERY simple mod (better that tube/speaker swaps - I've tried) is simply to diconnect the negative feedback loop. Disclaimer - I take no responsibility for damage to equipment/injury to persons etc etc...this is just a tip I found on the web and am passing it on, cause I liked what it did.

The mod - There are 3 wires on the output jack. Two from the output transformer and one from the board. The one from the board is the negative feedback. Removing it will loosen up the sound a bit, make it break up a little more. The amp losses a bit of clean headroom, but what you gain in terms of tone/touch is worth it, IMO. Warmer, looser and a bit more "raw". Plus, the amp at full tilt is a seriously rocks out. Even sounds good with the stock speaker (a Weber C10Q still didn't do it for me in this amp before I modded it)...I imaging hooking it up to a 2x12 or 4x12 would be pretty fun! Distortion excpectly is not metal/hi-fi, but definitely punk/grunge. You clever sorts can put this mod on an on/off switch for more versatility.

6 as stock, and 8 with the mod (I've now got a Winfield Thomas Super Reverb clone, the Elizabeth, which the PJ cannot touch...see my review for that amp).

Reliability : No Opinion
With the mod, only used it for a few gigs so I can't say, BUT jammed with it at full tilt (vol and tone both on 12) for a few hours one afternoon, held up OK.

This probably voids the warranty, so comment is irrelevant

Been playing for 13 years, teles and strats primarly, owned Les Pauls and 335s, mainly blues with soul, funk, swing thrown in, tho I did use to play more rock styles. If it was stolen, I would get something from Winfield Thomas, or similar. The tone difference is there. I do love the PJ's portability/tone/price package. All up great value for money, but I'm still searching.

Features? We don't need no stinkin' features!

Basically it's "cord goes in here, sound comes out there."

One input, one volume knob, one tone knob. Tube circuitry; 2 x 12AX7A preamp tubes, 2 x EL84 power tubes.

I was lucky enough to find one covered in the cool blonde tolex/oxblood grillcloth configuration.

Sound Quality : 10
I use this as a bedroom/practice amp with a stock 1990 Fender Standard (Japan) Stratocaster. I'm a completely different player when I plug directly into the amp sans effects. I get a wonderful vintage Strat "bell" tone, and the Strat begs to be fingerpicked. It's great when using outboard gear, too, as it doesn't color your sound too much; there's nothing to get in the way of your tone.

It's rated at 15 watts, but HOLY RECTIFIER BATMAN that's a LOUD 15 watts!

Two issues: it tends to have a slightly "boxy" sound, and at very low levels, I pick up a bit of stray RF.

Reliability : 10
No issues at all. I suspect that I'll have to retube it eventually, but under the circumstances that I use it, (low levels, short time periods) I'm sure that I won't have to deal with that too often.

Customer Support : No Opinion
Never had to deal with Fender support.

Overall Rating : 9
I still shake my head at the fact I got this somewhat rare blonde Pro Junior for $140. For this fact I'd rate it's value at 12 (like the volume knob)

Still, even at regular retail price, this is a great way to get some Fender TUBE tone in a cool little package.

Picked it up #175 which was a deal - I was looking for an amp to use in small pubs and bars. I sing and play solo - it turned out to be an ideal choice - The amp is as versatile as your own playing

1960 Strat with fralins - suggest you use with a compressor MXR Dynacomp or a Texas ranger means you just turn up the guitar when you want distortion - overdrive pedals suck the tone and defeat the purpose.

This amp virtually has no "features", switch, tone, volume, that's it.
You can use an extern speaker if you plug out the one which is build in. Very basic, very easy, just plug and play!
I appreciate that.

Sound Quality : 8
This little bastard got soul. Wen you turn it up, overdrive increases, versatility comes with guitars and and the way you play. Sound is allways honest and reliable. I use it with my tele loaded with fender noiseless pickups, preferably nothing else. It sounds best if the volume is turned up midways - very dynamic with overdrive if I hit the strings. This setting is too loud for a domestic situation but perfect for rehearsals. For gigging you need a PA system. In my opinion it is versatile as it reacts to the way I play - but it is definetely no amp for metal or loud and clean rhythm playing. There are other amps for that. If you want natural overdrive at the right volume and an amp which transfers your personality you should try it.
It is a bit noisy, though - but not as noisy as our PA.

So far no complaints

It sound very good but it is not the warmest amp availble but it still sound very good and is very fun to play around with. I used to hate it with 12AX7. I even changed them a couple of time but I did not like the result so I went to a TV repair store and got myself two 12AU7 and that did it. Suddenly the amp became more musical but there is no more overdrive but with a proper overdrive pedal XXL by Tech21 it is still a very loud 15 watts but now I can use it at home with the volume at 5 instead of 2. Once I put one of the speaker from my Fender Bassman 4 X 10 and with those tubes it sound very old.

I have a 1994 first gen tweed Pro Junior with the blue anico speaker, made in the USA. It's a no nonsense 15 watt all-tube workhorse, similar to the old Fender Harvard. At some point I plan to replace the Chinese made Fender tubes with some NOS American tubes (2 x 12AX7 & 2 x EL84).

Sound Quality : 10
I play mostly '50s and '60s rock'n'pop, and some blues. I use it only for rehearsals and recording, as it isn't really loud enough for most gigging situations unless you want a lot of overdrive, which I don't. That said, it is plenty loud for its size! In band rehearsal I don't go past 4 or 5 on the volume scale, and it cuts through just fine with the perfect amount of overdrive. I haven't used it in a blues situation yet, but I would imagine that it would be an amazing blues amp. Add a Fender Reverb tank (I have a '63 reissue) for even warmer, richer tones.

Reliability : 10
No problems whatsoever.

I use a '62 Gretsch Tennessean, a variety of Rickenbackers, and a '65 Silvertone/Danelectro with this amp. It has that great Fender sound, but in a smaller package. I've heard that the newer Pro Juniors (with black tolex and ceramic speaker) sound like crap, but this early version is a wonderful little amp. The vintage tweed covering and chome plated contol panel are really sharp looking. I mainly bought this because it was the only tubed practice amp available, and I've grown to really dig it. The originals can still be found on eBay for around $250-275, and are well worth it.

I'm going to say GOOD things about this amp. But we must be realistic. You bet it's limited on features, but that's part of the beauty of this amp. Don't buy a baseball bat if you want an Uzi!

Sound Quality : 9
This amp has the Fender tone. Don't doubt it. I can't say for sure about whose "overdrive" tone it has, but it is great overdrive tone. Completely natural, not at all industrial. I never used to like overdrive until I bought this amp. It has the purest, warmest overdrive I've ever produced. Whether you're talking single or double coil pickups, it produces a great OD tone. And for a 15 watt, 10" speaker amp, this little baby sounds huge! It's not big enough for a gigging amp (without a miked PA), but it's a fantastic practice amp, living room amp (fits under your end table), and it has been used by some top professionals in the recording studio. But it is the overdrive sound I love. It will overdrive in the most natural, warmest manner I've ever heard. Since I know I'm far from having heard everything, I'll only give it a 9, but for the dollar value, it's a definite 10. I think everyone, except pure clean tone folks, need one in their arsenal. (There's no way to shut off the OD tone as you crank the volume.) But you must also put a Boss RV-3 Reverb/Delay pedal in front of it. That adds another $150 to the set-up. But then it is sweet sounding when played at the lower volumes. It will fill your living room with a very full spatious sound in this setup without the OD starting to roll in. So classic Fender tone on a smaller scale (i.e. not 65 twin) is there in this little Titan, along with the ability to provide sweet overdrive at reasonable listening volumes. But you will be surprised how loud it can be.

Reliability : 8
Had to bring it in after about a year and a half for new tubes. Had to be re-biased as well. Don't know much about this stuff. I thought it would be like changing a light bulb, but I guess that's not usually the case. Cost about $100 for the maintenance. No unusual problems have ever arisen. With only four tubes, the simplicity of this amp takes a lot of the fear out of owning a tube amp. This is one of three tube amps I own, and you don't fear letting this one sit and cook like you do with the bigger tube amps all lit up like a Christmas tree.

Customer Support : 7
I was surprised that exact Fender replacement tubes weren't available so I could just stick them in and play on. The re-biasing threw me for a bit of a loop. But again, they say that's typical of any tube amp.

Overall Rating : 10
If I lost it, I would want to replace it, BUT I might look at its slightly bigger brother, the Blue Junior. That gives you a couple more on-board controls, reverb and maybe a "fat" switch(?) and a 12" speaker, but the same 15 watt amplifier. But I must say this little 10" unit with the tweed covering, brown leather handle, chicken head knobs, is damn cute, nostagically quaint, and sound great!.. If you're a metal head, keep looking, it can't peel paint, but if you like classic rock overdrive and want to keep some of your hearing, get one of these for fun. I've got to give it a ten, because I think it does exactly what it was designed to do.

Mine is a mid 90's model finished in tweed. It has the blue alnico 10 inch speaker. Leather carrying handle and two simple controls - a volume and a tone. Small cabinet and light weight. A pair of 12AX7 preamp tubes and a pair of EL 84 power tubes giving it 15 watts of output. Not much for features. Just the basics. I recently sold mine and picked up a Blues Junior.

Sound Quality : 7
The basic sound of this little amp is good. But it's very limited. The clean sound at low volumes is good for recording. As you turn the volume past 5, it begins to overdrive. The OD tone is NOT Fender-like at all. It isn't bad, it just sounds too gritty for my taste. And that's all there is to say about the sound of the PJ. Decent clean, but only at low volumes; gritty, almost harsh overdrive at higher volumes. Don't expect even a drop of versatility. But if the sound appeals to you, it could be the one.

Reliability : 5
I owned it for three years. No serious problems. It did have an annoying tube rattle that would show up randomly and nothing I ever did would get rid of it. Changing tubes, changing speakers, removing the power tube retainer, tightening all screws in the cabinet - nothing made any difference. Very frustrating and it's the reason I finally sold it.

Customer Support : 1
I tried calling, I tried emailing, and Fender just ignored me. Over the years, I've purchased thousands of dollars of Fender items. I'm extremely disappointed in their policy of ignoring customers.

Overall Rating : 5
Compared to other Fender tube amps I've used over the years, the PJ is at the bottom of the list. This doesn't make it bad, since Fender tube amps are generally very good. It just doesn't compare favorably to their other offerings. For a few dollars more, you can get the Blues Junior, which is a much better sounding and more versatile amp.

This is an update to my review of 1/11/2001. Using the Pro Jr over the weekend, the tone control failed. I noticed the knob was loose. Opening the POS, the plastic on the back of the control was broken into 4 pieces. I baby my gear. I have never considered using this for a gig. No wonder Fender discontinued it.

When the knobs are removed and put back on, it breaks the backs out of the potentiometers. TRY TO FIND A REPLACEMENT PART! These pots are a JOKE. I had to drill out the chassis to fit new pots. You have to use small pot because standard sized ones won't fit.

Vol., Tone, and a handle so you can carry it! I don't need any more than that. I bought this amp to get a high quality tone for picking in my apartment. It has significantly more balls than I will ever need playing at home. I really think it could be used in small rehearsal setting provided your bandmates are not volume-hungry maniacs. I was skeptical about this amp before I bought one because of its simplicity, but I am not at all disappointed now that I own it.

Sound Quality : 10
I play a G&L ASAT Classic and mostly play bluesy stuff and twangy song-oriented rock like John Hiatt and Scott Miller. All I need is good clean tones with spank and punch. I love it. Since upgrading to Electro Harmonix 12ax7 tubes, the amp has a suprisingly full, well-rounded tone. I have also found that plugging in with an effects unit or overdrive box can yield some great sounds. It has pretty good low end when used with a good distortion as long as you aren't going for all out performance volume. Used by itself it is no more noisy than I would have expected from a tube amp. I alternate between going through a Digitech RP200 and just plugging straight in. I use the RP200 for more EQ flexibility and a little reverb, but without it the amp is still a pleasure to play. The volume and tone on a good guitar will give you pretty good control of your tone. Definitely check one of these out with YOUR guitar before you buy. I love it but I don't think I would be impressed at all if I were using a cheaper guitar. I would rate the sound a 10 with my new tubes, but only a 7 with the stock Sovteks that Fender ships it with. Since I was planning to tinker with the tubes at some point, I'll go ahead and give it a 10. I got what I wanted.

Reliability : 7
I feel like it is probably very dependable, but I do have a bit of a quality control complaint. The Sovtek 12ax7 tubes it came with rattled noticeably when I played certain notes. Just some weird resonance thing that I found pretty annoying. I think the internals of the tubes were rattling against the glass. You wouldn't hear it at high volumes, but I bought the amp for low volume use. Since I bought the amp with a tube swap in mind, I just went ahead and ordered some tubes from thetubestore.com. They recommended Electro Harmonix for build quality and tone. I have no more funny noises, vibrations, or rattles with the new tubes. Fender didn't manufacture the tubes but they did spec them on this amp, so I have to give them (not the amp) a lower score. They were probably trying to save a buck and cut corners on the tubes.

Customer Support : 5
I did call fender to ask them about my noisy tubes and they claimed they had never heard of the problem. They really didn't help much. Didn't seem to care either. I did not get the sense that the rep I talked to would report the problem so as to improve future versions of the product. Big company. What can you expect?

Overall Rating : 9
Been playing 15 years. I own several guitars from my metal days, but the only one I ever play is my G&L ASAT. I like to just plug in and play without a lot of stomp boxes and stuff to kill my signal. That said, I love this amp. If someone stole it I would beat their ass with my left hand while I hand over my credit card to the music store clerk with my right hand. I might upgrade to the Blues Junior with it's 1x12 but I kind of doubt it. If I should actually start playing in a band, I will probably just buy another one and run stereo. I think that setup would be plenty loud for most types of music. The only amps I compared it with for apartment jamming were several cheap (solid state with tube preamps) models from Vox. I was very impressed with their Cambridge 15 but since I could afford it I went for the Fender. I am thrilled to have this amp and will probably never sell it. It will always have value and usefulness. Spend twenty bucks on tubes and its a 10. Straight out of the box, I give it a 9.
Feel free to e-mail me if you want more info, but I warn you... I'll just tell you to buy one.

Features? Not many, but how do you assign a number for features when you know that this amp has two controls...if you want more features look elsewhere

Sound Quality : 6
OK, the sound this thing produces is not bad at all. But when I turn the volume control I hear this weird overtone that sounds like a screetchy whine. The harshness of that sound is quite unbelievable! Of course I don't turn the knob when I'm playing. Still, I will take it back to the dealer where I bought it from and find out what gives. It is probably just a problem with mine (I hope so). Anyway, I found the sound to be a little thin so I changed to NOS tubes and now it sounds better than my MATCHLESS CHIEFTEN!...teehee! What is with all of these reviewers saying a low budget tube amp can be made to sound like a Victoria or a Matchless? Besides, if as many people own a Matchless amp as the reviewers on this site claim to, would that company have ever gone out of business? (ok, maybe it was'nt for lack of sales, but you get my point). Back to the pro jr, it produces some decent clean tones but lacks some headroom. Also, the volume on this thing goes from nothing to very loud with just a slight turn of the dial, rendering it fairly poor for an apartment practice amp. But that is not what everyone is buying it for so I won't knock it for that.

Reliability : No Opinion
I don't see any problems here. I'm sure the screeching noise I mentioned earlier will be fixed.

Customer Support : No Opinion
I don't feel as good about Fender as I used to. How many more companies are they going to buy? I just think that they are really flooding the market (and trying to monopolize the market). They still make some pretty good stuff no doubt, but I am going to try to support some of the smaller companies from now on, or at least companies that make one thing, like Mesa Boogie, even though they are quite a large company. Anyways, you get the point I am trying to make!

Overall Rating : 6
Not a bad amp by any means. But the price of these things just went up recently and I don't think it is justified for such a mass produced item. Here I am saying that and yet I "bought it". I think in retrospect I wish I had saved a little more money and purchased one of those small top-hat amps or something

This amp is almost a one trick pony, but really depends on the tubes you use and your pedal setup. On it's own it can do great blues duty.
Pair it up as the delayed signal with a fender deluxe or princeton and it sounds great. I use strats only. It is not clean, it has a great dirty clean tone going on.

I have been playing for 30 years and I have been playing this amp for 3 years. You can not tell anything about it in the store. Take it to a club, put it in the corner at waist level, put the volume on 7-8, hit it with a good reverb pedal and you will be amazed. It has an excellent blues tone with a strat. Don't try Pauls or 335's with this amp, it might die. Overall, I will use this amp in stereo with an older fender princeton and it sounds great. By itself it is cool, but not versatile. Another thing, this amp is very loud. Give it a try (in a club) you might be surprised! I give it a 7, because it is not as good as my princeton, which is a 10 in my book.

The amp is a year or so old, black tolex with a gold lable "special design" vintage voiced speaker. It's a blues amp! Just a good gritty but balsy tone out of this little thing. If you are in to Vox AC30's, AC15's, AC10's, or that "britishy" class A blues tone then this is a great candidate for an amp. All tube (2 - 12ax7's and 2- el84). Volume and tone controls. A speaker out jack... that's it! That's what I like though... to be fair I rate it a 6 for features 'cause other than tone there are NO FEATURES.

I play different styles for a living but I wanted a very small amp for a certain gig that I was doing. Was lugging around an AC30 in the flight case, Pedal board and 2 Les Pauls... it was getting to ba a pain since I was donating my time for this. I was hoping to pick up a used AC15 cheap and found this Pro JR used for a deal and said "what the heck"... I can sell it for what I have in it if it sux. Got it home and cranked it up: Kewl little amp right off the bat. I did notice that it had a brittle hi end tone and figured it was the cheezy "vintage voiced" speaker that it came with. Stuck some tubes that I had as spares in it then ordered a Weber Blue pup 10" alnico and stuck it in. MAN! I love to use this amp all the time now! Everyone laughs when I come walking in with this thing but it is loud enough for even large gigs (if you have good stage isolation and a monitor mix)... I'll even done rooms that seat a few thousand, hehehe... left the VOX at home and mic'e the Weber speaker and she has guts and tone for days!

Using a Hughes & Kettner Tube factor for distortion, a Dan echo delay, a Hughes & Kettner rotosphere, cry baby wah with a Gibson LP standard and I am in tone heaven. The amp is lighter than my SKB pedal board, LOL. Think that I'll get another one and load it with a blue pup.

OH, I plugged it into my vintage Fender Tremolux 2X10 cab an it sounds awesome there too! The truth: The blue pup impresses me as much as this JR, and the combo of both is so kewl.

not much to go wrong... but if it does, a backup JR should be no problem as cheap as they go for used.

Love this Pro JR! if it were stolen or lost I would get another but won't cry over it... it's a cheap amp to find used (around 200 bux) I have pedals in my board that cost twice what this thing is worth. I am thinking of getting a second JR for spare or extra power (if I can get the AC30 out of my system - it's been my baby for so long, and sounds great if the room is big enough to crank it). JR is small - it looks funny it's so small, it's unbelievably light to lug around and sounds good. I think that I'll go play it now.... LATER<><

I love the sound of this amp! It's a tweed model. It lacks a little low end, but that's one of the reasons I bought it: it fills just the right notch. When I bought it, I compared it to the black tolex model and it definately sounded better! I play a fair amount of gigs and I play through a Boss GT-3 that's set up on bypass most of the time. I play a strat and a 335. I set the volume and tone on about 3 or 4 and it cuts every gig I use it on!

Reliability : 10
Had it a couple of years and it's never gone down!

I had a Rivera amp I paid 5 times the price for and I sold it. I have a Fender Prosonic that sounds awesome and it sits in my closet unused. I haven't used any other amp for live gigs or recording since I bought it.

If I lost it I'd find another tweed model and buy it in a second! I love this amp for the tone! I want another for stereo!

Not very versitile but my GT3 does all the processing and the amp is perfect for my needs.

Bought this year so I presume it's the latest model, features are obviously limited to two switches and with this to play with there are obvious limitations but within these boundaries it is still quite flexible and can produce a reasonable variety of tones - a perfect base for effects.

Sound Quality : 8
Very sweet tones from the all tube construction - can get some very nice, chimy clean sounds that ring like a bell and crank it up a bit and overdriven tube distortion is available. It isn't a Marshall by any means but if you want a Marshall, buy one!! This is different but still produces some very pleasing overdrive/crunch tones, but it's the sweet, cleaner tones where this amp excels.

Reliability : No Opinion
Not had it long enough to tell - construction is maybe not as rugged as some.

Thankfully haven't had to contact them.

Very good quality and tone for this price but is somewhat limited due to the basicness of the construction. It's a bit of a one-trick-pony but if you like that trick you'll love it!!

2001. Two knobs, 1 volume and 1 tone. The amp is very deceptive in ablilties at first glance, only two knobs, but man can you get alot out of this little amp!

Sound Quality : 10
Very versitle little monster. I have three electric guitars now, d'angelico NYL-2, G&L ASAT deluxe, and a PRS Santana SE.... This amp stays pretty clean up till about 3 on the vloume knob, and it just so happens that with the volume set here I can get a perfect Jazz sound on my big bodied d'angelico NYL-2 before it starts to feedback..... For blues, this thing is absoule butter! Crank the volume past 4 and you are in there with some nice ALL TUBE DISTORTION (also adjust the tone knob to your desired flovor of sound, I keep mine around 7 or 8). Both my ASAT and my Santana SE sound incrediable, and the louder you crank it the better it sounds and the saturation increases..... Also, I sometimes throw in a wah, and in the 3/4 position to ge t a fatter tone, maybe ever an overdrive pedal to depending on how I feel that day..... But the bottom line is, this amp is pure butter with out any effects, including reverb!

Reliability : No Opinion
Have only had the amp for a short time. No real problems..... Well, then it does pick up RF signals, you know like truck drivers etc. I immediatly noticed this when I first got this amp and turned it on particularly with a overdrive pedal in the chain. For a minute was a little pissed off, but them amused once I plugged my guitar in to find that the truck drivers went away, and absolutely no truck drivers ever when I played, unless you want to count playing like a truck driver. Still I rather like that option, and it does not take away from the playing. I have only gotten the truck drivers when I am at higher vloumes without my guitar plugged into the amp.... Also, no truck drivers heard when I play jazz at volume set to 3!!!!!

It is a very small, very powerful, very versitile amp extremely well suited for Jazz, 60's and 70's rock, and BLUES! I use it mostly at home or in practice with the keyboard palyer at my church..... It has awesome tone clean, and dirty tone..... By it's self not suited for live gig, but with mic'd through a good P/A, with a good overdrive pedal (if you are doing rock), you have something to work with.... NOT SUITED FOR METAL PLAYING AT ALL, this is pure old school baby! (Thank God!) Perfect little amp, if you do not mind hearing a few truck drivers when your guitar is not plugg into your amp.........

Amp was made in 2000. Perfect for practicing blues and classic rock. Has two knobs (volume and tone). Very simple and stright forward. I use it in my apartment on about 5, sounds great as a good base for my pedals (Vox Wah, TS9, various fuzzes, Dunlop Uni-Vibe). Pleantly of power for a jam session with a light to medium handed drumer (especially when I hook up my 4 X 12). Its simplicity, compact size and nice tube OD without going deaf makes up for the lack of conventional features (reverb, f/x loop, etc.) it is not very versitile without pedals, but it is great at what it does.

Sound Quality : 8
I use a 1978 Fender Stratocaster w/ single coils. I play blues and classic rock, and it sounds great. Like I said tube OD without blowing te roof off. The amp is very quiet until cranked but that is to be expected. I have done one mod to my Jr., I replaced the preamp tubes with 5751's sounds great. I also like to hook it up to a 8 ohm 100 watt Marshall cab w/ greenbacks (kicks ass). Alone I give it an 8 becasue the 10" can sound "small" at times, but hooked up to the 4 X !@ I give it a 10.

Reliability : 8
I wouldn't gig with it, not enough clean headroom. Seems very reliable and it came with a 5 year warranty. Well, you know, the tubes could burn out but all tube amps do that. It is made pretty sturdy. I give it an 8 because I have only owned it for about 2 months. But it seems to be well made.

Customer Support : No Opinion
5 year warranty. Never dealt with Fender but my hometown music store is really friendly and helpful so no worries for me.

I have been playing for 2 years and I have owned only three other amps, a Marshall 1987x 50 watt, a R.I '65 Deluxe Reverb, and a Hot Rod Deville 2 X 12. I really loved the Marshall and the '65 but the Marshall was WAY too loud for my apartment, the '65 was also great but $ is a bitch sometimes so I had to sell it and the Hot Rod was a little too loud as well. I must admit that all things concidered, price, size, tone, etc., this is a great buy. Cool little amp. I'll give it a 10 here because it does what I need it to do.

12AX7 Preamp, EL84 Power amp, printed circuit board, No reverb, 10" speaker, Volume and Tone. Very Simple and easy to use, also extremely lightweight. I'd give it a 10 because it has the features I want, lightweight and easy to operate, I don't like all this master volume, gain, EQ stuff. In actuality it is also limited by lack of controls.

I play jazz and I own a Guild Savoy (like a 175). I was in a music store, not even looking for an amp, when I saw this little tweed fender and thought what the heck. I plugged in the store's Guild Savoy and was amazed at the tone. It nailed the Jazz sound I was looking for. I came back a day or two later and did a head to head with my Saldano Astroverb Combo (A very good amp, but not suited for Jazz) and the Pro Junior kicked it's butt in terms of a warm jazz tone. Also, it weighs hardly anything, so I bought it. Sounds great for jazz in my opinion, and has that classic Fender tube sound. I compared it to my dad's 65 Princeton Reverb and was amazed that it actually held it's own, although the Princeton Reverb was still better (especially since it has warm tube driven spring reverb), the Pro Junior had the same vibe and warmth. It is very easy to nail the classic jazz tone with this amp and a Hollowbody guitar. Now I just need to find a revebr pedal for it (Looking at a Little Lanilei)

Reliability : No Opinion
Don't know. I also wonder about consistency. Do all Pro Juniors sound this good, or did I just find a really nice one???

For the money, this is a great amp. Usually Jazzers would use a Polytone, but those cost 500-600 new, and are solid state. This amp is lightweight and easy to use, and with my Guild Jazzbox plugged in it delivers just the right tones. It does take some getting used to with no Reverb, but I think I'll order a Sonworks Little Lanilei for that. This amp also sounds good for blues, I overdrive it with a BluesBreaker II and my Ibanez 335 copy and it sounds great.

Same as stated before. Mine is the older tweed variety. Not too versatile, but it gets the job done. I don't own it anymore as I returned it for a refund. I'll tell you my story later on.

Sounds super. One day I went into the local hole pawnshop Darky's Pawnshop where they'd sell their grandmaw for a case of whisky. A couple of dirty and smelling scumbags showed me to a decent Fender Blues Junior. They wanted 500 Canadian so I told them to shove it. I went there six months later and there was the amp. Covered in dust with water damage on the bottom of it. It stunk and looked like hell.
I offered them $150 and they said OK cause they had already got cash for it under an insurance policy. I took it home and played it for the next four months.

Reliability : 8
After about four month of constant playing it started acting up. If it was on for more than an hour it would overhead and shut down. I opened it up and the circuit board was nice and melted. I knew I had to dump it fast, so I cleaned up the amp with some solvent my father has in the garage. It looked like new. I went back to the Scummy pawn shop Darky's Pawnshop and luckily the staff had changed. The new guy was some jailbird that used to work for Two Small Men with Big Hearts until they fired his ass for stealing.

I showed him my Fender Blues Junior and told him that it was one from the 50's. Luckily he was as dumb as everyone who works for that Kelowna, B.C. moving company. He tried it out and paid me $600.

It's great when the little guy can stick it to those scummy, slimmy, liar pawnshops. I had a good time with it and made a profit. I hope eveyone can do this. This amp was reliable enough for me so that I could dump it to some moron at a pawnshop. Yeah!!!!!!!!

I have played for 4 years. I am 22 now. I don't have it now, but it was probably hot coming from Darky's. This one is the black tolex version. Very basic features. 15 watts -2 EL84 tubes for power, 2 12AX7wa in pre, 1 volume , 1 tone. Speaker is the Fender Blue i.e. Eminence V30-10. No reverb, no channels. Not many features.. that's what I wanted, a good, simple tone machine. Gave it a five because of the 2 conrtols ( that's o.k. tho!) and the components could be better - ceramic sockets, heavier pots, switches, jacks and a pine cab. But that's mass production.

Sound Quality : 9
I think this is a very usable and easily customizable amp. The simple circuit is the key. I was looking for an amp with a good basic tone that I can color, boost and manipulate. Looked at a myriad of amps and settled on this one (Already have a Twin, a Pro Rev, 2ch Peavey).
Used stock, clean to overdrive with the vol knob. 0-3, think Deluxe with treble on 5 bass on 2. 4-6 adds some grit, cross an old tweed with a Vox. 6 up is Tube overdrive, Marshally. Tone knob is basically a high cut. Remember, this is a 10" speaker and sounds kinda boxy at certian volumes. I put in some 5751's in the preamp- WOW! Smooth clean with increasing character up to 6 then breaking up nicely. Turn on the TS and u git SRV (the 5751's were his pre tube). Ran it into a Celeston V30, good brown tone with 12ax7's. You could put in some 12ay7's and it would be as clean as a Twin with the right speaker. Want an Old Deluxe sound? Use the 5751's and get a good Alnico speaker that'll break up. Do some research to find out which components ( tubes, speakers, cabs, mods) will do what you want. I've got a Weber C10N coming that'll give me a good, fat, clean, Bassman sound without killin my ears. I use my pedalboard and play a Strat w/ vintage noiseless p.u.'s, Custom Shop Tele and they sound great. Tried a LP, Dano, and a Tom Anderson through it ... all good. Use it on BIG gigs, put it right behind me and mic it, put it in my wedge, It's huge. Other player's have said "good sound, man.. where's your other amp?"

Reliability : 8
Had it for 2 months as of now. Gigged out and no problems. Always carry a backup amp and extra tubes (tubes will go microphonic on ya). Pretty simple so I don't expect any problems. It is electrionic tho ,nothing's perfect.

Overall Rating : 9
This is a good sounding little amp. With a few mods it sounds great and can sound any way you want or need. I may take the head out and use it as a head /cab unit to be able to use different speakers.
It's not a Class A Dr.Z, Matchless or a Blackface Deluxe. It's not high powered and won't move air like a Twin or JCM. If you know how to use it and exactly what you want out of an amp, this may work really well for you. Been playing over 20 years and had lot's of gear. Fortunate enough to make a livin playing and get to hear a lot of fantastic musicians.. and see what they use. IMHO you have players searching for tone without much knowledge of how go about it, guys who use technology for functionality ( and get to tweak ) and the tone purists. Seen players with major acts playing a good guitar right into a POD and into the house sounding awesome. Also seen some guys with every boutique piece you can use and not sound any better out front.
Bought it for the price, tube type, speaker type (10"),and simplicity of the circuitry. Couldn't see paying 1K for a boutique Class A Deluxe repro that I still have to mic (and not capture all the vibe) when this gets soooo close. It's hard to beat the value of this little combo.

Just the right features. Volume and Tone both go to 12. I run mine about 3-4 on the volume and mess with the tone depending on what I want it to sound like. I don't notice a big difference in tonal quality but that's okay.

Sound Quality : 10
I play lap steels only, and this thing is perfect for steel guitar. I play Americana music and this thing is a bullseye for that style.
If you have an old Fender lap steel (or table steel) and you want that Bob Wills/Leon McAuliffe sound, this is a good way to go. When overdriven or turned up, it really sings. As someone suggested, turn it up on the amp and use your guitar's volume control to handle the volume.
You won't get a ton of bass out of a 10 inch speaker, so I don't expect it would sound good for pedal steel.

there are 400 reviews here about this amp. Some rave about the tone, others hate it. What's up? Just a small tube amp, 10 inch speaker en one volume and one tone. Is it a boogie heartbreaker? nop. Is it a pennlite battery practice thingy? nop. There is youre answer, its somewhere in between.

This one is an early one. Tweed covering. Maybe the new ones sound different.. could be/dont know. Yes, it has a pc board. So what? Who cares. You paid 300 dollars for the thing but insist on a hand-wired... come on. get real. I hear no one complain about their 2000 dollar Pc-board Marshall. Mayby over 40 years, the pc will slowely desintegrate so enjoy the time being en sell it when you sixty as vintage. Soundwise, this is a one trick pony. After 3 and a half, a sudden volume increase. After five it will go into overdrive and only the distortion will increase after that. It sounds pretty good to me. It's fenderish, not thin and not brittle. But also not very complex. And the low is like a twin with the bass on zero, no humpf, only twang. I recorded a lot with it and of course, my bassman sounds smoother and bigger and my vibrolux reverb sounds more mature and complex but we got some really nice sounds with it. To small to gig with? Euh.. I guess so. Depends on your drummer and size of the stage, but when your using P.A and monitors it doesn't matter right? But I dare everyone to show me a amp that sounds better, is lighter and cheapper at the same time than is bro'. And yes, it's made for blues so don't buy one and nag it won't do that rectifier stuff.

I get a good clean but gritty sound at a low volume. I use this with a Blues Jr and an ABY box.

If this was stolen, I would look for another in a heartbeat. I've heard that the "tweed" with the "blue frame" speaker is one of the better sounding Pros. I've never played any others, but when I played this one, it went home with me.

This amp features a slice of time . It has the sound of an amp that was made in the early years of electric guitar. the purpose being to make an acoustic guitar louder. it serves up a Big slice of the past.

Sound Quality : 10
Keeping in mind the purpose of this amp. If you keep it turned down but considerably louder than an acoustic guitar it has a warm, clean, wooden, tubey sound suitable for Jazz, country, or any straight ahead music style from the time period it was designed in. But turn it up and you get a big piece of rock and roll or blues. Greasy, gritty warm distortion. It has a very musical voice. For me this voice connects very well with my Gibson es-335, my Fender SRV strat sounds good but not as good as it does trough my Music Man HD 130 witch has a black face twin sound. The Pro Jr. doesn?t have reverb and playing an amp without reverb can be like listening to you own recorded voice if you haven?t done it a lot it can be almost painful. If I the feel the song calls for reverb I use a Dano BLT (IMHO a decent box for the money) the mix set low the repeat at Apr. 80%.

I played my first gig in band in 1964. I my rig then was a Kay electric and a Silver Tone amp. My next rig was a Gretch Corsair and a Fender Band Master. Over the years I have went trough too many amps and guitars to mention. I am at the point in my musical Life were my main concern is quality of tone. I have a Gibson ES-335 with Classic 57?s, a Fender Stevie Ray Vaughn Strat, a Mesa/Boogie Subway Rocket and a Music Man HD-130 210 and a POD (Witch is fun to record with. But you can?t beat a tube amp) . Most of my musical career I have been limited by budget. But I always seem to find something, for the money I had, that would work. My last full time giging band broke up in 89. The rig I used in that band was a 72 Fender Tele (300$) a Gibson SG Amplifier (250$). Now I just do solo work and an occasional jam. I would not hesitate to use this amp live. This appears to be a good little amp that I would trade my POD straight across for. Not having reveb or any effects It doesn?t hide sloppy or poor playing but it is very musical. Great deal for the money.

Purchased new about 6 weeks ago. I won't rehash the features - there are over 60 reviews below that do that. It is simple - plug and play - no tweaking just turn the tone and volume knobs. I play blues/rock in a gigging bar/party band. I bought the amp to carry as a spare in case my main amp goes down at a gig. This seemed like the ticket because of size and weight and I got a terrific price on it from Harold at Torp's music in Minneapolis (he is shutting down the store and retiring bless his heart - he will be missed). For what I bought it for I don't need any other features. The 15 watts is plenty for our gigs if I need to go to it - we mic everything up. My main club amps are reissue Deluxe Reverb or tweed Blues Junior - so 15 watts as a back-up is plenty. reverb would be nice but see below. There are some other choices out there in the 10-20 watt range so I will give this amp an 8 on features.

Sound Quality : 6
I play mostly a Tele and a PRS when gigging - sometimes I get out the Les Paul or the ES335 but the first 2 are my main working guitars. Since this is a practice/backup amp I haven't had a chance to use it in a live setting. I do agree with some of the reviewers below as the stock sound is not that great. There may be a a speaker break-in period required but I this amp has not given me any chills yet. I think the stock speaker is the main problem out of the gate. I got the amp home and played it 3 or 4 times durng the first 2 weeks and I got the same feeling that it was almost solid state sounding - just kind of a boxy, boingey sound. It was really pissing me off after reading all the glowing reviews on HC about the sound (as I walked out of the store with it another customer even walked up to me and said I was going to love it) so 2 nights ago I said - okay we got to figure this out. First I pulled out my Blues Junior and cabled the Pro Junior to that cabinet with the 12' speaker - big difference! Changed the tone and the amp just sounded more "tubey"(as it probably should - I think the Pro Junior is the same basic circuit as the Blues Jr without the reverb, midrange, master and the other bells and whistles). After playing it thru that cab for a while I next tied it to the 15" speaker in my Peavey Delta Blues - I thought this sounded even better. I then tried it thru a 16 ohm 2x10 open back cab with some 70's era Fender alnicos - the ohmage pulled the volume down a tad but sound was very good. So I think I agree with Carstens and a few other reviewers - this thing need a speaker change. After thinking that thru however - if a person is going to buy this amp and then spend the additional cash for an extension cab - why not find a used Blues Jr and get the reverb, etc. That is probably where I am headed - I may try a couple of different 10" speakers to see if I can get the sound I want but if not I will probably trade up. When using the other speakers I was very pleased with the sound - the 15" was really cooking and when I kicked in the Tube Screamer she really thumped. If you were going to go with a different cab I woud take a hard look at a 15" - I also plan to test with a closed back 2x12 so my opinion could change after that. There are planty of other comments here about the noise and types of sounds so I won't go into that - the speaker (and cabinet size) are the main impact items to me - I give it a 6 in it's stock form but with a different speaker I would be 8 to 9.

Reliability : 8
Not enough experience to comment - I bought this to use as a backup and I also baby all my gear so i would expect any failure would be from a design defect that has already been mentioned - somebody said there was a heat problem but I usually have a small fan clipped to the back of the cabinet when we gig - so I would not expect to have a problem there. Fender could however spend a little more money on tubes - and really for the retail price of this amp they could put better power tubes and a better speaker in it. I would think with a good set of tubes and reasonable care this amp would probably last quite a while. It is small enough where with reasonable care it shouldn't get banged up.

Customer Support : 9
Always dealt with a local tech on warranty work - no problems very satisfied - this amp has a 5 year warranty - I've called Fender in Arizona a few times and they have always tried to be helpful. They get a bad rap because they are competing against their ghost - those 60's amps are the benchmark for amp construction and reliability - and they would be very expensive to build today - but Fender could try to not cut some of the corners so sharply.

Overall Rating : 6
I have been playing for 32 years and own numerous Fender(new and vintage), Marshall, Silvertone(they're cool!), Gibson and Peavey. Plus have sold more to make room for the current herd (yes I have GAS). If this amp was stolen I would be mad because I would be out some cash, but if I were going to replace I would probably look for another Blues Jr or maybe look at the Mesa Subway line(although they are a little more pricey). If a different 10" speaker made this thing kick like it should then I probably would look for another one if the price was right. Again this was bought as a backup amp so it doesn't have to be killer but if you can't get close to the sound you want then what is the point?

A rockers dream. This amp smokes.I play Rock,Blues and Country. It covers them all well.A very simple amp to use, just dial in the Volume and Tone knobs from nice and clean to fantastic all tube saturation. It has no headphone jack,no effects loop and no reverb. This amp is the best little amp for in house and recording. Also works well gigging. If you play in a big house you will need to mike it,but so will everybody else in the band. All tubes man!!!!!

This amp sounds great with my Gibson es-335,Les Paul Standard and of course my Fender Strat.I do not have a problem with any noise, hiss or unwanted stuff.

I have been playing 25 years with a Fender Pro 185,and 2 Rock amps.If this amp was stolen I would be 1st in line to get a new one.You can do everything with it.I compared this amp with Marshall,Mesa/Boogie and Hiwatt, but in the small amp world they are not an ALL TUBE AMP.I Do wish it had reverb, line out and headphone jack, but that would push the price up.Besides keep it simple, just worry about your playing.

I use a mexican strat with 54 custom shops. I love this amp. I sounds great when you crank it up. You dont get a lot of heavy distortion but you can just put a pedal in front of it and it sounds cool. It breaks up when you turn it past 5.

Tricky category because it only has a volume and tone, which is exactly what I wanted and it does the job, yet there's only two knobs so I'll split the difference with a "5".

Sound Quality : 10
Is this a boutique amp? No. Is it as nice as a $1500 model? No. But when you balance what this amp is especially for the price, it sounds fantastic and does indeed harken back to the older small tweeds, though with a little more modern volume and level of punch. Can break up easily when dimed for Clapton-y type of sustain, yet still supplies much clean headroom at useable volumes. Equally nice with single coils or humbuckers.

Reliability : 8
Mass-produced Fender PCB board design. Not as durable as point-to-point, but again for the price point seems to be well-constructed. Take care of your amps and this should not have any undue maintenance issues.

Customer Support : 7
Fender is a mega-corporation and will not offer "Mom and Pop" service, but in most cases your dealer is in charge of arranging warranty support if anything goes wrong. Therefore, consider your dealer when evaluating this category. I give it a "7" just to be random. I never really need customer support though.

Overall Rating : 10
Great stripped-down lean and mean tone machine. Are there better amps out there? Of course. But combine traditional looks, excellent tone, and a good price, and this is a great little amp as far as new models are concerned. I'm a vintage fan and own a lot of amps. I still love my little Pro Junior though. It has a lot of character.

Made in 97 or 98, one tone control, one volume control, one channel, 10" ceramic magnet speaker with a seam in the middle of the cone! WHAZZUP WITH THAT?? Particle board/heavy/toneless cabinet, PCB to hold cheap quality electronic components. Tiny, cheap potentiometers. Tweed covering with a leather handle that has cracked and split after 2 months.

Sound Quality : 1
I play various stock stratocasters & classic rock.

Other reviewers concurr that this thing is loud. Farts can be loud, too. YOUR POINT IS?

Moving right along, the tone sucks. No clarity at low volumes and sputtery at high volumes. If your looking for traditional Fender clean or overdriven tones here; forget it. Bad for blues, raucnhy for rock, jerky for jazz.

I havent tried an accordion through it so, it might be perfect for polka tunes.

Volume is "clean" from 1-2. Above that it jumps radically and there is little difference from 3 to 10. The tone control is the same; Little action from 3-10.

This "thing" has too much gain. So much so that it hisses like an angry snake. A pathetic, angry snake. The distortion IS "brutal" in a negative way. It sounds muddy and lifeless, kinda like DOD effects pedals.

If Fender were smart, they'd sell this design to Crate. If SLM made them, it would bury their company & eliminate some of the competition! LOL!

Anyway, taking other reviewers suggestions, I had it re-tubed with various NOS tubes. (Tone still sucks.) Replaced all resistors with Allen-Bradley NOS carbon composition types. (Expensive and the tone still sucks.) Replaced all capacitors with Spragues. (Tone still sucks.) Changed speaker. (Guess what?! TONE STILL SUCKS!) The last thing to try is to replace the PCB with a terminal board and replace the cabinet. Hmmm.... it sounds like it's time to sack this P.O.S.

Reliability : 10
I must admit it has never quit working the few times I'm used it. One of the plates of a Sovtek output tube started glowing red after 2 weeks. A tube replacement fixed that.

Would I use it without a backup is not the question. You should ask: WOULD I USE IT AT ALL? Answer: No. I would be too embarrassed.

If I ever see someone playing through one of these live, I will mock him/her and laugh uncontrollably! Bwaaaaa-hahahhahahahaha!!!!!!! Choke... gag.....

I have been playing 36 years & own Fender Deluxe's, Bassmans & other tube amps. If it were lost or stolen, I'd pity the fool that got it!

It does make a dandy door stop. Compared to the red brick door stop that my 8 year old painted for me in school, it's a lot harder to move around. However, it will keep the door open in a strong wind BETTER than the brick because of the larger size & weight.

DON'T BUY THIS AMP. After 3 years, it has NOT improved with age. I wasted my money buying this thing. (Go ahead & laugh at me. I know YOU never wasted your money on a piece of gear.)

This amp has an on/off switch, one input, a volume, and a tone knob. I would rather have low, mid, and high controls instead of one general tone control though. Fender gets off on the right track with this amp as far as its layout goes because you need this simplicity to get good tone. When you start adding things like master volume, line outs, effect send and returns, etc., you start adding resistance into the circuit and your tone will start to suffer,....

Unfortunately, this is where Fender stopped looking at the ideas for a great amp with great tone and started assembling an amp that was marketable to the masses.

To start out with, they claim this amp is equipped with GROOVE TUBES. Once I got my amp, I found that only the 12ax7 preamp tubes were groove tubes and the 2 power tubes were Sovteks.

The tubes are mounted apparently right onto the circuit board, which is something I hate anymore on an ALL TUBE amp. HOT tubes should be mounted in their own chassis somewhere other than on a delicate PC board and a REAL TUBE amp such as the vintage ones didn't use mass produced PC boards with copper traces for wires either, they were wired point to point with wires and hand soldered. The overall look of the amp was descent,.....It was put together nicely, although I didn't care for its particle board construction.

Sound Quality : 7
I was using a strat (hard tail) w/delta tone pickups and the overdriven sound was horrible. When you cranked it up enough for it to break up, it just was too ragged and harsh. A strat with D'ADDario nickel strings should not sound harsh with this amp, but it did! I mainly think it's the stiff ceramic speaker which never loosened up at all hardly. Other reviewers have some rememdies for speaker replacement and even tube replacement which I did consider, but then decided against since I wasn't happy with the other aspects of the amp like particle board, pc board, tubes on pc board, etc,....it just wasn't worth it to me to mess with this amp any more, so I sold it. I didn't feel bad about selling it to this guy cause he played blue harp, like Mr. Popper from Blues Traveler and his harps sounded awesome through this amp. Maybe fender should market it as a low budget blues harp amp!?

Actually I do want to say that if you kept the volume down below breakup, the amp had a nice tubey clean base tone about it, so I guess that's why so many have strived to perfect it with their home mods. The amp does feel responsive to pick attack and your playing dynamics, I found. The tone however was stiff when you picked hard with clean tones, probably due to the stiff speaker. There was tremendous pick attack and then the decay of the note was quite a bit lower in volume,...it almost sounded like you were palm muting it all the time, whether you were or not. It really just was not acceptable in its present state,....now I did put a budda phatman overdrive pedal between my guitar and this amp, and that actually worked wonders for smoothing out the amps tone and giving a little more flexibility in tone shaping,...I actually liked this combination for a while but finally got a complex because I couldn't stand the fact that everything was sounding ok and acceptable only cause I am using this pedal. I really wanted an amp that was really built right and sounded right WITH NO PEDALS, and then add effects pedals to spice it up. There are some out there,... If you want to see how a real amp is constructed check out Spirit Amplifier's little studio amp at http://www.spiritamps.com

Reliability : 8
Don't believe its completely reliable,.....I use to use it with the volume and tone both on 12 and then adjust everything from my guitars controls,...This worked nicely, but sometimes while playing, the volume would start to mysteriously go down and then back up again as if there were this ghost at my amp fiddling with my volume knob or else the one on my guitar. This happened twice and then never happened again in the year that I owned the amp, so don't know....

Customer Support : 9
never tried to contact the company, nice 5 year warrantee which is transferable, and I did that when I sold the amp.

Overall Rating : 6
I have been playing since the early 90's of last century. If lost or stolen, GOD help them with this amp and their life. I loved the simplicity and its tubey base tone,...I hate the fact that Fender cut corners with this amp to keep it cheap,...They could have put more effort into this amp and had a real classic but the almighty dollar got ahold on them, this amp, as is, should have only cost about $149 dollars, which then, I couldn't or wouldn't have ragged on its cheap construction.......

I use this amp mainly for practising or when recording that overdriven amp sound. It really works well with any guitars as it is so simple, the natural tone of your guitars really gets heard...

Not versatile (no channel switch, etc..) but good for what I use it for...

This is an update review from my last effort over 2 years ago.

You wanna read it again its half a mile down below..

Sound Quality : 9
Hmmm.. two years on and my playing has changed a lot. I've kind of ignored my PJ for use of a Super 60 and even more recently a Yamaha DG1000. I am however back into my PJ again! I gave it a plug and switched it on.The three things that struck me where.. one it's loud! I mean, its seems louder than my Super 60 (in a relatively small room).. two! its dry. I'm hate loadsa reverb but without even a little it sounds so so dry.. three! its hard. And I mean hard not harsh (genius/mad). It's got that in your face tone that isn't well suited for The Carpenters or some jingly jangly pure as the driven snow music. Here is an amp that says "Boo!" to anyone who wants to play through it, you have to control your playing more than usual and the sound seems to be very dynamic and its easy to fluff a note and have it die on you. Play it well though and it groans..

Volume settings:
1-2 just on and about the right level for your bedroom but it doesn't sound very good, nothings working right yet.
3-5 things are cooking a little now. Whack your strings and the sound starts to bubble over a little.
6-9 very crunchy sound, not too overdriven. its the sweet spot but its really quite loud now.
10-12 too much distortion now. a little fuzzy with the bog standard 10 inch speaker. Not that good a sound for most, but you haven't bought it for this.

Reliability : 8
Nothing gone wrong yet.. some have had problems though. Hot tubes might be a concern.

Customer Support : No Opinion
I hate Arbiter, the company that distributes fender in the UK but not because of poor servicing support. In fact, I have never called them.

Overall Rating : 8
Its great to see how many posts there are on this humble little amp. Its a real love or hate piece of kit. It offers very little to the player to help him sound good, you have to make it perform for you and it will if you're up too it.

I'm going to sell my Super 60 and buy another PJ (blonde?) and run them stereo out of some tape delay thang. I mean, what do you want me to do.. play a prs into a 808 and then onto a twin channel valve amp with adjustable drive and reverb? I think that has been done to death already. Its the character of it that I dig. Is it for you two....maybe, but find out B4 u buy. One mans one is another tens ten.

Puchased around 1995 or 1996 from Allegro Music in Santa Fe for a recording project I was doing post production work on. Tweed covering good solid cabinet. Because I produce and mix a lot of projects, I use many different amps, depending on what the session requires. Features: Input/Volume/Tone. No line out, reverb or EFX send or return. I had only used it a few times and had to tear it down due to bad soldering. Because it was knew and failed, I put it away for about 5 years. I did use it a few times after the repair, and the metal sleeve recessed in the input jack came out when removing the 1/4" guitar cable! The amp has a 10" and absolutely no bottom end even when using humbuckers, so guitar rhythm sounds awful. Cranked it sounds good for blues lead guitar and that's it. Uses two 12AX7 and two EL 84's in power stage held with two springs and metal retainer that with two holes that grab on to the EL 84's. I quickly got rid of this nonsense. To make a long story short the power transformer went out. I seriously doubt this amp was used 10 times. ABSOLUTE JUNK! The trannie is completely recessed in the combo along with the tubes and there's a little slot notched out in the back where you can view the 12AX7's. Essentially, this amp gets hot and everything starts frying underneath, including the PCB. The soldering is an absolute discrace.
I would never recommend this amp to anyone. Tear it down and see for yourself. JUNK IS JUNK.

Sound Quality : 3
One sound for blues lead guitar. No bottom awful for any type of rhythm work. Considering this amp only uses two EL 84 pentodes in the power stage kicking out 15 to 18 watts RMS it was one of the noiseist amp I've heard. My '65 Skylark that was re-capped and a three prong ground added, is quieter than the Pro Junior. And it uses one 12AU7 and two EL 84's and kicks out the same amount of power, save to say it is Class A all the way.

Reliability : 1
What reliability. Absolute junk.

Don't know - Don't care.

Wish they never manufactured this piece of junk. If you have one, make sure you have some serious fans, because this junker will fry. Hopefully for those of you who own one your plastic input jack and metal sleeve won't pop out for bit. Good luck!

It's small and has 2 knobs. Tone and Volume.

Sound Quality : 9
I use this with a Am. Strat with 12 gauge strings tuned to Eb (best thing I've ever done for tone). I have a Lindy Fralin neck pickup, and I use a Visual Sound Jeckyl and Hyde for overdrive. With this setup it gets an awesome crisp, slightly overdriven blues tone that is perfect. Good for blues sounds like Lurrie Bell, Freddie King, and other good chicago-texas blues. I also use a Danelectro BLT slap echo for some slight reverb but its not neccisary. (overdrive is). My gear has a lot to do with the tone so test it out at the store.

Reliability : 9
I think I could depend on it. I have brought it to a couple of gigs and it has done nicely, I probably should get some backup tubes though.

This is a really good simple blues amp. I personally don't like the sound that much without overdrive (others may disagree), and I never need to play it loud enough for it to break up that much, even during shows. Mic'd it sounds pretty good for a tiny 20 pound amp. But my recomendation is that you get some kind of ts-808 copy overdrive unit. The best part is this thing is so small, it's awesome because people think I'm going to sound crappy and small, but it has a nice tone to it with my setup.

This amp likes hot pickups and it starts to break up around 5. Really hot and feedbacky after that. Sustain forever with active single coils. My powerhouse strat sounds huge through this amp. This is the tweed model, about 2-3 years old. Traded for this amp. 15 watt almost all tube amp. Has solid state rectifier, power tubes are 2 EL84s, preamp tubes are 12AX7s. A 10" speaker(blue Jensen P10R alnico), volume, tone, 8 ohm speaker output to external cabinet(if you disconnect internal speaker). Am a harp player, and play, and perform blues. Use a Shure green bullet, or Shaker dynamic mic. I had been curious about this amp, played this one at music store one day after purchasing a mint condition 69 Fender Princeton. After playing, and buying the PRO-Junior, I returned the vintage Princeton, which by the way had new caps, new tubes, and speaker(Weber alnico). For harp, the Junior sounded much better. Fender reissues I think get a bad rap, all the amp tech on and on's about the particle board, no point to point wiring, bla, bla, bla! I have had a 59 Bassman reissue, and it was a great amp, regret I sold it. Had it 7 years, it met an amp tech once, and briefly. So far the Junior is a great amp. I have chosen certain mods. I replaced the Jensen speaker with a Weber P10Q alnico, a great improvement. Also, on preamp put a Ruby 12AU7(next to EL84s), and a 12AT7, which cuts gain. Am about to order NOS Phillips EL84s, and a NOS GE 12AY7 or two. Finally, through Jenkins Sound Shop have ordered a customized 2X10 cab, along with a Weber P10R alnico, plan to mix a P10Q, and an R in cab, use the Junior as basically a head to the cab. I will probably do a brief follow up post a couple of months after I receive, and start using the cab. I am using the Pro-Junior for small/medium venues. I mic. it to a PA, with a Shure SM57. I really think this is a great 15 watt tube amp, even without tube, and speaker upgrades. I may buy a second Junior, if one breaks down, an amp tech can repair it, even if he claims to be allergic to particle board, ect. I am very impressed with the tone of this amp, its very easy to dial in your tone. I do wish it had reverb, but not if it was solid state. By the way, besides the 59 Bassman reissue, have owned a couple old champs(one Rivera made-sold-mistake), a Blues Junior, and a Blues Deluxe. I did not care for either the Blues Junior, nor the 40 watt Blues Deluxe. I think the Pro-Junior for my needs is a much better amp. I very much like its simplicity. I can't stand dual channels/channel switching.

Sound Quality : 9
The Shure green bullet mic. sounds great with this amp. I like the overdrive this amp gets, which for me, is with the volume only just shy of 2, with the tone setting around 7. This amp is suited for blues, and can be for harp players. It is the loudest 15 wayy amp I have ever heard.

Reliability : 9
I believe this amp is dependable. I take good care of my equipment. This is currently my only amp, though I may buy a second Junior, along with an old Champ, or Gibson GA-5 am looking for. I really like low watt amps. I have never had to use a warranty with a Fender amp, even the reissues.

I am 48 years old, played harp 28 years, semi/pro over 20 years. Played in a regionally popular touring/recording bluegrass band for 14 years, been playing amplified blues about the last 11 plus years now. I really like both amplified, and non amplified harp playing. Again, I like the Pro-Junior. At my age I like its small size, though for the most part it will be a head to a 2X10 cab setup. I think it is for harp, besides the 59 reissue Bassman, the best reissue amp out by Fender. For harp players I recommend you play through one before buying. If you buy the new black tolex version, get the ceramic speaker(Emminence?), out of there, put in a Weber P10R, or P10Q. You can buy these amps used for around $200, and if you shop around, new for $250, or so. I would not pay more than $250-$270 for this amp new.

one tone one volume, very simple as per dozens of other reviews

one sound one trick pony, but thats why i bought it

this is the blond tolex version. kindov cool looking in a minimalist '60's vibe.

Sound Quality : 6
works well with single coils (tele and strat) and humbuckers (Epi Joe Pass) not too bad with acoustics either (fishman natural II) although i think its better suited to the strat cos the tele gets a bit shrill.

works well, nice valvey tone but HISSY and it really only has one volume level which is TOO LOUD

i run a few pedals in front of it (Boss chorus and reverb/delay going for the chris isaak wicked game sound) and it works very well with them, i havent tried overdrive yet but i think this could be the solution to making this amp work. it warms digital pedals up very well and the big reverb i get is pretty neat.

this is not really a bedroom amp, to get loud enough to distort and then use the guitar volume to clean up is really much too loud in a domestic setting, a gain control is really needed, i havent put an overdrive in front of it because i have plenty of other amps to play with (boogie mk 3, HRD, marshall 8080 valvestate and a peavey classic 20)

i bought it to be a better classic 20 and it isnt really. Have retubed it too to try and see if that made any difference, with sovteks in the preamp its not really any quieter.

I do like the tone, and it is i think a slightly nicer tone than the classic 20 but points off for the noise and the lack of versatility

Reliability : 8
bought it second hand, seems fine, needed new tubes and seems less "alive" now (weird noises if left on)

would have much preferred a standby, it may only have 4 valves but they're still pretty pricy here in New Zealand.

havent had it very long but it looks pretty simple so what can really go wrong, even catastrophic failure doesnt really matter since at the price it s a bit of a throw away item.

Customer Support : 3
the local fender distributer seems OK. but the retailers are a bit variable, we have a "rock shop" chain here which is the usual bunch of kids who are mega friendly till theyve taken your cash then dont want to know, they dont stock much in the way of valves and i wouldnt trust them to service anything

Overall Rating : 5
I've only been playing a year or so, clearly have a bad GAS problem. I quite like the amp but it is nowhere near as good as a boogie or the HRD, but then it was dirt cheap (about US$140) so what do you expect.

It goes nice in stereo with the classic 20 and probably has a very slight edge on tone, but i was hoping it would be a bit more versatile and did i mention the HISSSSSSSSSSSS

i think it matches a strat better than a tele which can get a bit shrill. i think its excellent with a few effects pedals.

dont regret getting it but wouldnt do it again.

We all know the Pro Junior has two controls, volume and tone and I think they offer enough versatility to most players. I just use it at full on tone and about 6.5 on volume. No reverb--no sweat. simplify, simplify, simplify.
Basss and treble might have been handy but you can get by without them

Sound Quality : 8
I am using a strat with a humbucker pickup on the bridge pickup.
I bought this amp because it was recommended to me by the lead guitarist of The Angels, Australia's premier rock group. Rick Brewster has been playing lead guitar in this band for over twenty years. He used the Pro Junior on stage. He has used Marshall stacks etc. (having an AC/DC influence) and I was amazed to learn that he used this little amp as his main amp for all his recent gigs, and these were gigs at very big venues-several thousand people.
He was using a tweed version but assured me there was no difference in sound between the tweed and the newer model so I went out and bought the newer one.
It was noizsy at first, making funny sporadic noises, but I got a new valve and it is fine now. Valves are funny things and can behave differently in different sockets, though.
The amp is a bit noisy but is not a problem. I find the distortion kicks in at about six but on another guitar I have with active EMG pickups it kicks in earlier.
Overall the sound is good but like other peeple have said it is a loud 15 watt amp and this can be a problem if you only want to play at low volumes but still get some overdrive. Fortunately I have found a solution for this problem.

Reliability : No Opinion
I have only had the amp several months so I don't know how reliable it is or will be--only time will tell.

Customer Support : No Opinion
Customer suppport may be good but I haven't really had to deal with them. I don't know what would happen if I said "I don't like it and I want a replacement tomorrow."

Overall Rating : 9
I have been playing guitar for over twenty years and have used Peaveys and Marshalls mostly. This amp is good. It may not have the features of other amps but it sounds good and doesn't take up too much room.
Other people have commented that it is too loud for some applications and that the overdrive doesn't kick in until it is at 5 or 6.
I have solved this problem by unplugging the speaker input and putting in a resistor (in a box). This allows me to overdrive the amp at a volume of about 6 or 7 but get an output level equivalent to 2 or 3. So I get the overdrive sound but at a greatly reduced volume that doen't disturb my neighbours too much. If anyone wants details on the resistor device, email me and you can build one for yourself. It solves all the problems of practicing in flats etc.
Can you buy a better amp for price and size? maybe, but I don't know of it.

Tone Vol, on, 1/4" in. Super compact. Black w C10 spkr. I'm getting used to no reverb :-) I'm comfortable with the clean and I love the over-driven sounds it makes. This thing must run hot because I get a conversation-level signal out of it WITHOUT turning up either of the knobs!! I used to have a big 100W combo that would have to be deafening to get the feedback overtones that I like, but this guy does it at much more manageable volumes. Still plenty loud at gigs and for rehearsing. I tried switching an old CTS alnico Fender 10" spkr but it wouldnt give as good a sound!

Sound Quality : 9
As I say I love how hot and feedbacky it is. It will sustain over a note and generate harmonics just fine. I use a homemade stratclone with full Dimarzio humbuckers in parallel N/B reversed to the stacked single coil middle PU. I took the tone controls off the guitar and use the amps tone to roll off brightness. I sometimes run through a bevy of pedals (compressor/dist/phase/delay/EQ) and there's a bit of hiss (poor caps?) but it's totally workable on stage.

Reliability : 9
No back ups, no breakdowns, I use it all dead stock. Tried different tubes and my hot tone went away! AAAH!

I prefer Telecasters, and have three. My main axe is an ash-bodied American Standard, with a Duncan Antiquity pick-up at the bridge. I also own several guitars with humbuckers, but they have too much output for the P.J. As for my music, it is 90's alternative pop-rock with an edge, ala "Lit", or "Third Eye Blind". My band is currently working on our second release, and I have used the P.J. and several tracks. They record VERY well. My tone is class-A EL-84 saturation -my main amp is a late sixties AC30. The Pro-Junior and I have a long history. I started using these amps about 5 yrs. ago, when I was still searching for an amp that would give me the "small amp sweat", and actually be loud enough to enjoy, possibly even use at small-medium size venues. Along comes the P.J. At first, like many players, I was only reasonably impressed. I loved the simplicity of the controls, and found the tone knob to be quite user-freindly. As far as the over-drive, it was O.K. if you play blues, but I needed this little amp to have a more musical distortion, more compressed and dynamic. It was a little flabby on the low-end (like all Fenders), and I immediately set forth on some pedal research. I have found that the right over-drive, if properly set, can really tighten-up a loose amp, without sounding harsh or shrill. It just takes a little research. After selecting several drives that worked well, I ran accross another one used and bought it for $150.00. Now, I decided to use my old Morley A/B box and run two. Whoa!! Let me tell you, I was pretty impressed. One sounded decent, but two created a very unique tone, a surprising amount of low-end, and were loud enough for most gigs. Now, I'm gonna go out on a limb here, but I think that over-all this is the best sounding amp Fender makes. I haven't found any other model that suits my tonal needs as well. Granted they make some cool amps that are great for clean, or semi distorted Blues,(not including the Tonemaster, which I hate) but for those of us who are addicted to the EL84 glassy, AC30-ish type saturation, this is the only amp from Fender that delivers. It is very dynamic, and when I turn down it cleans up very nicely,(even with the pedal) and stays nice and "chimey". I think using the Tele helps quite a bit, and the fact that I use a very low-output pick-up also helps. I let the amp do most of the work. The P.J. is a one -trick pony, but so is my AC30. I don't need it to do anything else. It is a very cool amp. But it is an amp that takes some tinkering with to get it to be at its best. The right guitar, and the right over-drive do wonders for this little baby.

Reliability : 6
Both of my P.J.'s had bad tubes in them right-off. They do seem to run hot, I think that a fair amount of voltage is being dumped into the tubes- that's why it sounds the way it does. I would recommend up-grading to better tubes than the Sovteks, and Chinese/Fender tubes that came in both of mine. They suck, and go microphonic quickly. A good set of NOS's does the trick, and brings out a little more clarity, low-end and volume, depending on the ratings. I do think Fender could have done a better job of securing the tubes. That boingy tube holder on the EL84's is a bother (I removed mine), and it's the pre-amp tubes that actually are more prone to vibration. They should have anchored all 4 tubes more securely, but oh well, it's a cheap amp. I have moved them around a bit(never on a road-trip),and they seem to hold up O.K. I guess I would trust them on the road with the proper cases, and a bunch of spare tubes.

Customer Support : 3
I have found Fender to be rather lacking in their customer service dept. They are not easy to get a hold of, and are slow to respond. They offer a great warranty, but they also make products that are quite often deffective right off the shelf. I have owned several Fender guitars that have had problems, and these Pro-Juniors certainly are not defect-free. (bad tubes, really tight/cheesy pots).

Overall Rating : 9
I have been playing for 23 yrs., and again, own a 1969 AC30, a re-issue AC15, a Top-Hat Club Royale, and a Silver-Faced Deluxe Reverb.
Main axes - Teles. I would buy the amp again if it was lost or stolen, I've actually grown to love these little things. They are quite usefull.

This is THE amp to use with a Stratocaster. I recently gigged in a small club with my Pro Jr. unmiked. I was actually asked to turn down (by the soundman). Well, you know what's up here. It has two knobs, volume and tone. It has a 1/4 inch plug for an external speaker; the one in the cab is 10 inches. Not much else. I think the small size counts as a feature, it was the main reason I got this amp.

Sound Quality : 9
Well, my point of view is a bit different, I use this amp with my epiphone archtop to play jazz. Well, try to play jazz. I have an epiphone emperor regent, and at first I played it through a crate VC30. I hated lugging that thing around, (it only had one 12 inch speaker, but it was huge by comparison) so I got this little amp so I wouldn't strain my hands carrying the other amp. I also figured that the low-wattage would allow me to have a warmer sound, because my crate, being a tube amp with the unbelievably high rating of 30 watts, was too squeaky clean at the volumes I play at here with the isu jazz ensemble and my combo. When I tried out the pro junior, I realized what I'd been missing. For reference, I don't normally use effects except for an old Boss CE2. I just have a short cord plus my guitar and amp, that's it.
The crate, like most amps, has quite a scoup to it that you can't change with tweaking, but this amp is more flat. For my ears, that's good, it encourages the round warmth of the archtop to shine through, instead of producing an anemic midrange and thin highs. Think marilyn monroe from clarista flockhart. Furthermore, this amp provides a nice WARM sound at realistic levels for jazz. It breaks up ever so slightly when you whack the strings, think Wes Montgomery going crazy with his thumb. It's not like any jazzers had sparkly clean tone back in the day anyway, Kenny Burell, Jim Hall, Joe Pass, Barney Kessel, Charlie Christian? I rest my case.
This amp does have quite a hum to it, which I would love to fix, but I don't know how, or what is even causing the hum. I can live with it though, because this amp has attitude and it sounds sweet.

Reliability : 9
I've kicked this amp around and dropped it and it works fine. The tubes have held up well too. I trust this amp, and I gig with it without a backup.

Customer Support : No Opinion
I haven't dealt with fender at all.

Overall Rating : 9
I've been playing guitar for 7 years, and I started jazz a year and a half ago. I like this amp alot. It's simple, small, has great warm tube tone for jazz. It has attitude. I got a cool metal VW emblem (dinner-plate-sized) from my friend, and I attached it to the grille of the amp. It's sweet.
The buzz keeps it from being perfect, but this amp is supercool. It's very well suited to my needs.

Many others have covered this. In my review I will attempt to offer info not provided already. Mine is a tweed example with blue alnico speaker.

Sound Quality : No Opinion
I use it primarily with my Peavey Predator strat, two singles and a humbucker at the bridge. As everyone else said, the Pro Jr. gets a nice crunchy, (but not death-metal-like), distortion when cranked a bit, (past 6 or so on up to 12). Think early Angus Young sound with the humbucker, (though obviously it doesn't sound as good as Angus's Marshall), with a well defined and punchy attack, and very little "mud" except on low notes where the little 10" just can't cut it. I can easily see how people could gig with this amp and no effects or anything for many styles which call for this type of sound, (though reverb would be nice, maybe added at the board when miked up). With the single coils and slightly lower volumes, it gets a nice bluesy breakup. It would work well with nothing plugged in but a guitar and cable for anything from oldies rock to alternative.

Now that's the good news, the bad (maybe, for some) news is that this amp WILL NOT get the classic clean Fender tone. Period. I may get shot for this, but I believe I'm qualified to judge, (having spent hours comparing it to my other amps). I happen to be fortunate enough to own a tweed Deluxe and a blackface Princeton Reverb. The Pro Jr. is nowhere near the same league in the clean department. Period. Not even close even at low volumes, (below five on the knob). It sounds all right, but lacks both the chimey sparkling highs and the big bottom (due to the small cab?) of the other amps. I don't blame the 10" speaker, as my Princeton also has a 10". I haven't tried it with an external cab, but this might help a bit. The bottom line is that you could never get a gig-level clean tone out of this amp, as it starts to break up too easily (in a gig situation, not at home as covered later). If you don't need a sparkly clean sound or overkill distortion (without effects), this amp might be your man.

Others have mentioned that it's not noisy, when in truth it hums and hisses like a bastard. If you've nothing to compare it to, its background noise is not too loud, but compare it to any good blackface and it'll really stand out. This might be a problem when recording at lower levels, but then again, that's not what this amp's about.

Additionally, the amp is WAY loud. You will probably be disappointed if you buy this amp thinking you can get cool natural tube distortion in your apartment without disturbing your neighbors. Not so. By the time you get it cranked up to breakup levels, it's WAY too loud to keep peace in the household/apartment building. I tried pulling out one of the power tubes, and it was still too loud when it finally started distorting). That said, it sounds great for distortion practice at low levels with my Boss GL-100 preamp providing distortion, but this is kind of missing the point.

Reliability : 6
Seems to work OK now, but one of the power tubes was not glowing when I got it, (though it worked after a bit of wiggling). I've had this amp apart, and I must say it's made pretty cheaply. The cabinet isn't too bad, but the chassis is not what they used to be. Then again, this is why it's less than $200! I wouldn't hesitate to gig with it, but I'd probably bring a backup, though it's never kicked out on me since I got it about eight months ago.

Customer Support : No Opinion

Overall Rating : 8
I've been playing guitar for 20 years, owned a variety of guitars and amps. This amp has a purpose, it's really cool, and really small/portable, just don't buy for what it doesn't do well, (it does NOT have the classic Fender clean tone).

it sounds really good until you hit that stupid wall of blah distortion...i mean, the overdrive is really sweet but then you go past halfway (like 1-o-clock) and then it all goes to hell. not good distortion hell either, but bad horrible fuzz crap that sounds sooooo unappealing. remember...key word is bad fuzz...like playing through a wayyyyyyyy to distorted home stereo...horrible...everything is a big hummmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm distortion...and you cant even roll off the tone controls on your guitar because then its jusy just mid range hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm distortion...sucks royally there. the clean is great, the overdrive sweet and loud...anything past that is shit.
i use a fender electric XII, and a harmony meteor. theyre both fairly stock, and sound good until....that horrible distortion! i like the elec12 better because i can use that slightly overdriven sound to get a chunka chunka sound, and i can also get that 60's brit 12 string twang, AND some bluesy soul bass string phrasing. all for cheap dollars...why would you not want to have one? i mean for basement practices, garages, home, bedrooms, open mics whatever...it is small enough, light enough, loud enough, good enough, and dog gonnit, people like them! and especially since i only paid like what...2 honeys and some change???on sale???at guitar center for god sakes??? what more do you need? i mean thats like 2 weeks at mc donalds,bk, wendys, white castle, busters, checkers, kfc....you CAN afford it. its cheaper than some dates! vegas! a concert youve been dying to see! taxes! you CAN always scrunch up 200 honeys for a well made little rocker, trust me.

This amp is completely a one-trick pony. It has an unremarkable clean sound, and an unusable distorted sound. What it does exceedingly well is that warm, in-between thing.

Sound Quality : 8
I use this amp with a Strat, and I put a Boss DS-1 in front of it to get a little preamp sustain and boost for solos. The amp is not at all kind to my Les Paul, so it never gets played. This amp was definitely made to complement Fender guitars, as it has a very midrangey sound. However, having gotten the negatives out of the way, I will say that the one trick that this pony does is very, very nice. I don't think you could find a better amp for blues. When you play a Strat's neck pickup through this thing, and you've got the volume set at about 6, you get a delicious, fat tone that will cut through full-volume drums, bass and rhythm guitar. Definitely the loudest 15 watts I've ever heard.

The funny story I have with this amp -- I brought it to band practice and everybody laughed. The bass player was very angry; he called it a lunchbox and chastised me for buying it. I just plugged it in and played a couple of licks. Smiles all around. The bass player sheepishly asked me to turn it down. "That thing cuts," he said. I'd like to try it through a bigger cabinet, but I think it might really kill that snarky vibe you get from the little 10" speaker and tiny cabinet. I don't think you'll find a better watt-for-dollar value in a tube amp. Everybody should own one of these.

volume and tone knobs, pure tube circutry, 10" speaker. the setup of this amp is very simple, but that's one of the things i like about it. also, don't let only one tone knob fool you; you can get lots of different tones off of this one knob. the features are simple and easy to use. however, i think that this amp should have a line out.

ahhh. . .a short, sweet glimpse of heaven! this amp can get sounds from a nice muted bluesey tone to a great overdrive distortion with the twist of the volume knob! it is a great amp. i got it for the purpose of having a practice amp, and it turns out that i got more than i bargianed for. this amp has got to be the loudest 15 watts i've ever heard and the speaker can handle every bit of it at any volume level. the amp also has a lot of low end, and that's one of the things i like about it. i was really suprized when i played a seven-string on it recently. i didn't expect the amp to handle it as well as it did. it acted normal, and the sound quality stayed the same even with all the extra low-end. i love this little amp, and if i didn't already have one, i'd sell my soul for it. most definitely worth the purchase

great amp. .i suggest it to anyone who wants a small amp that packs a great sound and a big punch. i've been playing for 3 years, but have only been into advanced sound for about a year, and this amp has everything i want. i mostly like to play blues, but every once in a while i like to play some sludge metal. the amp sounds good with both, but i do use a distortion when i play heavy stuff. when going for a good blues tone, i just use the amp itself. one of the only things i don't like about the amp is that it has no line out. every amp should have a line out! other than that, it's my dream amp: small, great sound, affordable price, louder than you could ever think this little monster could be. the amp also has a lot of sensitivity, where you can crank the amp and still get a really quiet sound by just barely striking the strings. it's great. if it were lost or stolen, i'd probably not know what to do with my life. that would be worse than losing my truck. . . let's not think about that.
as a matter of fact, i'm gonna go lock it up right now!

Spartan controls, but that was what attracted me to the amp in the first place.

Sound Quality : 2
I own a several Mesa/Boogies (a Studio .22+ and a Rect-O-Verb) which I love, but I wanted something smaller and lighter to grab on the way to last-minute jam sessions. I thought that the Pro Junior, with its tube design and minimal controls, would be perfect; however, I was most disappointed when I put the amp through its paces in a real-world setting. I have quite an assortment of guitars, ranging from a PRS through a number of Fender American Standard Strats and Teles down to a Danelectro U2-56. I prefer a chimey, slightly broken-up sound (think of Chrissie Hynde's sound). The odd thing about this amp was that it sounded horrible with the Fenders (very flat, almost solid-state) and slightly better with the PRS. The amp only was only enjoyable when partnered with the Dano and cranked up full, producing a sick, Link Wray-type sound perfect for playing Rumble. I initially attributed the amp's substandard sound to its lack of reverb; I hooked up to my Fender '63 reverb in the hopes that it would breathe a little bit, but I was still mightily underwhelmed.

With a JT30-VC through a DD3 some delicious blues harmonica can be played. That blues can be hokum and Missisippi or it can be hard Chicago and West Coast groove.

The Pro Junior is clean and uncluttered, and it can also be a dirty bastard bursting the ears of those around it.

I use the JT30-VC at about 66% to 75%. The DD3 controls are all around 12 to 1-o-clock with the M 200ms delay setting. The volume and tone are set to 4 and 9 respectively.

If the solos suit it the mic volume is whacked up to 90% to 100% and played into the amp. The feedback is beautifully harmonic. Its great to cane it so much when the band's really jumping.

I'd had this amp for a couple of years before I started using it properly. Up until then I wished I'd bought a valve stomp box, an analogue delay, and a vocal mic: providing portability to plug into PAs with few problems.

Since I've been using it properly I've fallen in love with its warm sounds, its clean tones, and its in-your-face-monkey-boy distortion and feedback.

If I needed to buy another amp I'd buy this one. I had also looked at the Laney LC-15 before buying this one.

It needs a LINE-OUT.

Extremely easy of use. Only tone and volume knobs, but do not be fooled by this, you can get high, medium and low equalization from this amp. All valve and 15W. This amp is not versatile but versatility is not the intention from this amp. For me the major task from an amp is to be able to amplify the guitar signal, different sounds and fxs must come from devices like good multi fxs units and good distortions from good pre amps. This amp does not have reverb. In my opinion if you like reverbs that comes in the amp, they must be tube driven ones. Other type of reverbs may suck your amp tone and make some extra noise! Comes with a brief manual but you really do not need it. My amp is black tolex covered with a 10" brown label speaker. ( there is another Pro-Jr with tweed cover and a different speaker model also, but I do not know the difference in tone ! ) To know about other technical features go to the Fender URL and see by yourself.

Sound Quality : 10
The setup I'm using is : Ibanez Talman guitar with a Dimarzio Paf-Pro humbucker in the briedge position, HS-2 in the middle and an original mini humbucker from Ibanez in the neck position and a Tech 21 Tri-OD that I use for the distortion. The amp is not noisy but in the area where I live it is . There are tv and radio stations near by and sometimes I can hear radio through it. If I set the volume at 1 I get the radio frequency, upper than 1 there is no problem. I use at 2 or 3 so it's fine. The amp clean sound is flat, not too trebly and not too bassy. It's perfect if you like to use external devices to make your clean and distorted sounds. If you set the volume at high settings you can get nice and fat blues overdrive sounds. The truth is that the final sound from this amp or any other amp will depend on your entire set up and of course, your grip and feeling when playing. Before using this amp I had a Fender Blues Jr, that is not as good as the Pro Jr amp and it fails in some important topics like : I guess that the Blues Jr was made thinking on the Pro Jr but with the intention of making a better version with a 12" speaker, bass, middle, treble eq, master and reverb. The idea is but the results aren't : the 12" speaker does not sound tight, the natural overdrive is very trebly, the reverb is noisy and is not tube driven. The Pro Jr does what it's suposed to do.

Reliability : No Opinion
It's a new amp so I can not tell you about this topic. My blues Jr never gave me any problem and I had it for a year and half

I will not have support here in Brazil

I have been playing for about 3 years. Before this amp I had a Fender 70W Rock Pro that really sucks, a Marshal VS100R that also sucks, a small Crate GX 15R that was for practice but does not come close to the Pro Jr, A Laney GC 80 that was a shame and the Blues Jr that is a good one, but after I tryed the Pro Jr I imediately sold it and bought the Pro Jr. I hope it'll never get broken or stolen so I'll have to buy another one

this was from the first year of production i bought it new around '91 or '92.as far as the features go you all know the story.reverb would of been nice but what can you do...this amp was a floor model,at the time they were hard to get...what i didn't realize at the time is this amp probably took a bit of a beating in the store with everyone pluging in turning it up,you know on and off a hundred times a day...anyway i bought this amp cause i have a penchant for small amps this one being tweed, blue frame speaker just seemed delicious... i played it here and there but mainly around the house as it wasn't my main amp (also a fender).i was never that impressed it rattled a bit i thought it was the tube retainers i disconnected them, it still rattled so i gave up and just used at rehearsal and one or two gigs... one day at rehersal it started rattling like crazy so i figured that was it...i'm playing guitar about 38 years so i should of known better two months i woke up finally and thought about changing the tubes...then it dawned on me that the tubes were probably bad from day one as i said it wasn't my main amp so i was never too concerned.i changed the power tubes at a cost of fourteen dollars (el-84's)and replaced the two preamp tubes and now i can't put it down i'm actually trying to figure a way to use it on the larger gigs.they call this a blues amp and thats kind of a misnomer it's designed like an old fender amp so at one time they were all blues amps so i give it a 10 in this category, and as for reliability a 10 also because out of my own stupidity i played this amp for about nine or so years with bad power tubes and it never blew out...

Sound Quality : 10
i use a few strats one with texas specials and one with tex mex pickups a gibson 335 all going through a standard boss pedalboard but i enjoy the amp straight i can't get enough of the tone but bear in mind i am 50 years old so my perception of a good tone is going to be differant than that of someone much younger on the average...

Reliability : 10
i think its very reliable as i said before it lasted for nine or so years at rehearsal with bad tubes...i wouldn't gig with it without a backup for fear of mainly blowing the speaker not the circutry.cause playing loud and clean with an amp of 15 watts through a 10 inch speaker is a little ambitious...

Customer Support : 10
i've delt fender on the web and found them to be very congenial

Overall Rating : 9
i would by it again but i think they no longer come with the blue frame speaker...

1998 Black Tolex - 2 white GT EL84's - 2 Chinese 12AX7's - Fender Special Design maroon label speaker - 15 watts - Tone and Volume pots - On/Off switch - jack for speaker. A bare bones special purpose low/medium power amp. Low on features by design.

Sound Quality : 6
Guitars: '94 '52 RI Tele, '98 60's RI CIJ Strat, '94 PRS Custom 22, '81 Gibson L5-S - all stock - and a hardtail mongrel walnut Strat with tan EMG's and an 8/58 maple neck. All guitars plugged directly into the amp with no effects. My current method of operation is to crank up the amp and control it from the guitar volume and tone controls.
This amp has a boxy clean sound, and stiff overdriven sound and feel. I attribute those problems to the small size of the cabinet and the ceramic magnet speaker. Maybe if I beat on it for a while, it'll loosen up. Humbuckers smooth it out somewhat.
Its noisy at low volumes. The speaker fights the urge to scream freely at high volumes, it tends to splatter the guitar sound in a manner that's more ugly than musical. I've ordered a Fender blue alnico (like the ones in the Bassman RI, the Vibro King and the original tweed Pro Jr.) from my local dealer, Downtown Sounds in Northampton, MA and a Jensen alnico from Weber VST, hoping that one or the other improves the sound. I've read that alnico is the musical magnet, compressing more and singing more sweetly than ceramic. We'll see. I've also put in new Mesa Boogie EL84's that seem to beef it up a bit.
This amp is not meant to be versatile. It can be connected to an external speaker cabinet, which may solve a lot of its problems.
I'm going to try it with a Cab-Tone, running the output to its internal speaker and to the PA.
I play many styles except for the ones that call for extreme distortion. This Pro Jr. has no clean, sparkling sound. I think this amp, in its current condition, is best suited for funky, sloppy blues where you want that ripped-speaker-cone/worn-out-and-never-replaced-tube sound.

Reliability : 10
Used it once on the job with both the EMG equipped Strat and the '60's CIJ Strat at full throttle for an entire four hour gig, about 10 times at home practicing at low volume and at one moderate volume band practice. Hasn't broken yet. The inside top of the driver 12AX7 turned from silver to black after the full-throttle gig, but it still seems to work.

No experience with Fender customer support. The information they provide on their website is improving, but it doesn't appear to be a high priority for them. I'm very biased toward the capabilities of the internet, since that's my day job. It concerns me when a company of Fender's stature doesn't take full advantage of the opportunity the internet has to offer. (I will entertain job offers.)

Overall Rating : 6
I had high hopes for it, judging from so many positive reviews, but I found this amp to be a reluctant one trick pony. Its clean sounds are thumpy, kind of like a cardboard box (there's a new one for ya) and its cranked sounds don't give my guitar that forgiving feel in my hands when I'm soloing that makes my mouth water. Like the Blues Jr., it uses two EL84's in the power section, which seem to lack sparkle and complexity. I'm hoping the Jensen alnico will brighten it up, let it breathe more and give it more character. It's not strong enough alone for a bar gig and it's too noisy to be a recording amp. It's very unforgiving, but you could get used to it.

1996 tweed tolex, 15 watt, 1X10 gold label Fender Speaker. Very simple...Volume and tone control...1 channel...that's it. If you want more just add an FX unit of some kind. A nice fender reverb tank would have been nice.

Sound Quality : 10
Awesome! I play mostly bluesy type rock on a Les Paul and occasionally a Blues Hawk, and this little amp really has the sound, especially with the LP. I'd relate it to an early Fender Vibrolux tone..very similar. Unbelievably warm tones when turned up over 5...clear and articulate notes even when cranked to 12..and it's loud..15 of the biggest watts I've ever heard. From 4 down it's crystal clear. Has absolutely no noise..would be great for recording. If you could overcome the size stigma..I have no doubt that this little amp could be gigged in your average size club..unmiked.

Reliability : 10
Only had it for a short time..but it's a fender..and they've never let me down.

Never had to deal with them in the 30 years I've been playing fender amps

Overall Rating : 10
I've been playing guitar for over 30 years..also have a blackface Bassman..a Crate TD-50c..and have owned Gibson,Ampeg,Marshall,Traynor,Vox,Fender Twin..Vibroverb..and a Deluxe. This little amp has all the tonal quality of the best of them. Undoubedly the best small amp I've ever played. Only things I wish it had is an onboard reverb and an out jack to plug it into a 2X10 cabinet. I understand that when another cab is added the volume goes even higher. I can't imagine ever needing anything more..if I ever go back out to play..I'll mike it if necessary..let them laugh when I set it up..they won't laugh for long. If I ever lost it..I'd buy another..might just buy another anyway. Best $200 I ever spent.
