I am using a fender tele elite with lace sensors, playing worship at my church. I traded another amp for this one because I have never owned a tube amp. Plugged straight in its got the classic old blues rock distortion as already covered. It breaks up at about 3 with my guitar. Plugging straight in dry with no reverb is great but I much prefer a little reverb. That said I have used it with my Digitech RP5 and as some other submissions said it really helps with the headroom and gives you control over the clean sound. I love the sound through this setup but I didn't get the amp to just plug in. I live near the guy who owns Eurotubes(www.eurotubes.com) and just had it retubed with JJ electronics tubes, now the amp sounds twice as good. He's an old classic rock guy and he was pretty impressed with the amps tone. Its a must to replace the tubes with better ones you won't believe the difference but stay away from the chinese tubes. With a processor on the front end you can have the classic fender, clean tone with this amp. The simplicity of one volume and one tone control let you deal with tone shaping in the processor. The amp does not have a bad tone so it makes it pretty easy to dial up sweetness. In addition to the blues distortion this amp will shred with the distortion in the RP5. I use it as is, with the RP5, and throw a mic on it and it just sounds huge. No need for another cabinet. I carry my effects, electric and acoustic guitars and the amp in one trip from the car. What a blessing it was to get a hold of this amp and the amazing thing is it didn't cost me a dime.

I've played for 29 years, I would definitely replace this if it were lost or stolen. I love its simplicity and its tone. I didn't compare it to others, the trade was just a whim, cruising throught the classifieds. I wish it had reverb. I would not recommend this amp to someone who is void of effects pedals or processor unit but in combination this is an awesome package. For its size it is an amazing amplifier. It is going to be part of my rig from now on.

Slightly used Fender Peo Junior. Not meant for versatility, but for tone. Single channel, volume and tone controls, no loops, hoops, bells or whistles. I bought this amp for jamming and quiet practices with a variety band. My Mark III and DC Mesas were too heavy and a little too loud for many folks. After a few days of use, though,I think that this may have enough power for many of my variety gigs. I'm spoiled by channel switching though, I fear. If I were doing strictly a roots or blues gig, I'd be sorely tempted to take this and my Rat out to it.

My guitars are a pair of PRSs and a Hamer US made Daytona. The Daytona, basically Hamer's version of the American Standard strat, seems very well suited to this amp. Up to 3 or 4 it's as clean as a whistle and fat as a bear, past that it fattens and distorts beautifully. Articulate single notes at 12. The PRSs roar a little more wide open. Terrific sound for expressive rock ala Tom Petty or Joe Ely. This is a rootsy type distortion, although it'll roar more with a Rat or similar pedal.

Spoiled by my Mesas, I'd leave this home for practice and try to dial these tones in on one of them. It's too new, but the construction to my eyes seems a bit flimsy compared to Mesa's well considered monster construction. But for the price point I'm not complaining.

I've been playing for about 27 years or so, and I've bragged on my gear enough. This is a pretty cool little amp, and it smokes any other tiny practice amp I've ever used. I'd replace it if I lost it or it was stolen. No comparison to my other gear, or even to my old Peavey Classic 30 or Sovtek Mig 60, but they were more pricey and designed to do totally different sorts of tasks; this is cheap, it's simple, and it will probably record gloriously. No option anxiety, you simply dime it and use your guitar's volume control for rhythm or leads. This is my first Fender in some time (I used to used an old silverface Dual Showman occasionally) and I may need to reassess my snooty opinion of them if they make any other amps as swell as this one.
One issue that I did have was that there was quite a bit of hiss when this amp was cranked. I put a low noise Mesa 12ax7 in the first preamp position and, just for grins, a couple of Sovtek EL84s in the power stage. The 12ax7 quieted her right down, and now maybe I'll spring for some NOS EL84s to see what happens to the sound. I may also plant a 12at7 in the preamp stage to see how it sounds. With the simple layout and fixed bias this is also a neat little test bed for stuff like this.

basically this amp has no features - except for its simplicity and its modest power-rating, which allows you to get great tube-tone at bearable volume. that's why i rate it high. this is a follow-up to my earlier submissions. i liked the sound and simplicity of the amp, but i couldn't take the small sound out of the small box. i knew this little amp had "it" after i hooked it to a 2x12"-cabinet, so i got into the hassle of making it a "project-amp". i found a deluxe-style cabinet on michael clark's website (www.clarkparts.net) made by mojo, complete with baffle, grill-cloth and laquered tweed for 120 bucks (about 20x20x12") plus a celestion vintage 30 (50 bucks, used), put the pj's chassis in it and i'm ready to go now. you know that everyone likes a 4x10" bassman and everyone complains about it being too loud when saturation comes in - well, here's the ticket (i know it's not the same animal - but you get the idea).

i play in a sort of classic/alternative-rockband and i wanted to have something more convenient than my marshalls for small venues. now this suits my needs. i play a usa std. strat and an epiphone-riviera. the amp seems to complement the epi's humbuckers better so far. this amp is not versatile, but i'm used to non-master-volume amps and using stomp-boxes for variety of sounds. the single tone-knob is quite effective, though, but (exspecially w/the vintage 30) i prefer to keep it low (4-5). it's clean only up to 4 on the scale of 12, then it starts to get gritty and from 8 to 12 it just compresses more, but doesn't really get louder. great rock-sound! it can sound sweet if you keep it low and pick gently, but if you turn it up there's nothing subtle about this amp. it's just very straight-forward and it screams. with the strat and at high volume the amp is kind of noisy.

i can't say much about fender, but michael clark at "clarkamplification" has been very kind and responsive, and the mojo-made cabinet i got for my pj-project is very well-built and beautiful. so the thumps are up for these two companies.

been playing for more than 15 years, own/have owned other amps, mainly marshalls and fenders (from 12 to 70 watts). now this is my second main-amp besides my marshall jtm 45 reissue. i've also tried a sf deluxe-reverb and i have a princeton-reverb and the blues junior as well. all are fine amps but none of these would ROAR the way the pj does. i like to play my bj or princeton at home, or when more "subtlety" is required but for playing with my band the pj is it. i really didn't like the stock-sound, it was just too small and boxy, but with the bigger cab and speaker - wow, i feel i've got a great amp. i think the pj is a very interesting and unique design for these days and it was worth the extra bucks and hassle to make it work for my situation.

I bought this for: 1. Tone 2. Portability 3. Reliability
I play rock & roll and rock/surf guitar instrumentals. I use this for a new group of folks I'm playing with where it has to be transported and merged in with acoustic instruments. It does this job very well. I use it with a Fender Reverb Unit and it sounds great.
The bass distorts early but by turning the guitar volume down you can get it under control. The treble is not bite sharp but tube mellow with excellent sustain. I like playing this amp at higher volumes with the tone at 5, volume at 5 and the guitar volume at 8 to 9. My G&L S500 sounds great through this amp because it has so much tone range in the pickups and tone circuit.
I have not tried recording with this thing yet but I'm betting that it will blow me away. Oh, as a typical Fender tube amp it gets pretty loud too.
I really don't think first-time buyers would like this amp! It doesn't have effects or lots of knobs to play with. I think that most people that buy this amp know exactly what they are looking for. That is great TUBE tone, all by itself.

I've been playing 30+ years. I own a Deluxe Reverb, a Carvin SX100, a Peavey Basic 60, and pedals (some OK, most junk). I like a guitar, amp, and cord. And sometimes a dose of Fender Reverb. My main axes are a Fender 62 Jaguar, G&L S500, Fender Squier ProTone Fat Tele, and Fender AmStd Strat.
I'm impressed with this amp. It's not my main amp but it could be. I'll know when I record with it. The tone is real tube!

This amp sounds really good. Not just for the price. Sure, it could sound better. It's not an old Deluxe. But it sounds like a real tube amp (it is).I use a Strat plus with SDuncan Lil' 59 at the bridge. Very good for blues. Noisy at full volume. I never put it past 6, so it's not a problem. Usually, I play at 3, with a mike. The amp is cleanish up to about 3, but this isn't glassy, even though it uses EL84s. After this, if you play hard, it breaks up nicely. Just turn your guitar vol. down a bit to clean it up.

Not only the circuitry but also the valves & the controls were pcb mounted. I don't mind the caps & resistors & stuff but solder isn't supposed to be a structural material. Having said this, economy prevailed, enabling many people who couldn't afford a decent tube amp to get one. And no, it never broke down on me at a gig.

About 10 years. I play mainly acoustic - a national & a Yamaha flattop. I'd buy it again, but I really like the tweed. I love - just one vol (no mater) & one tone control - narrow panel cosmetics. I hate - nothing. There are things I would - & have changed about this amp - but you would have to up the price too. Anorak stuff --- I have done many mods - replaced the EL84s with 6V6s, chassis mounted the tubes & controls, cathode biased it, etc. It's no longer a PJ - more a cathode biased Harvard with a self balancing paraphase.

IF YOU'RE SHOPPING, PLEASE READ THIS PART! I know there are lots of "10" ratings in the SOUND category of other reviews of this amp, but GO PLAY ONE YOURSELF before purchasing. I respect all the other opinions, but here's mine:
It just does not sound that special. I was looking for a home-practice "bedroom" amp for blues and blues-rock. I demo-ed this amp extensively with several guitars (American-strat with S-S-S, Gibson LP Standard, and an Ibanez JEM), and played quiet, medium loud, and wide-open. I tried plugging straight into it and I tried a few overdrive pedals. I tried to try everything.
First of all, this is no "bedroom/basement" practice amp. To get ANY overdrive, I had to turn it up to 5, and it was VERY loud. The overdrive is nice, warm, and smooth though, just very slight, even for blues. For example, it is not enough overdrive to enhance the harmonics much at all, or to provide any compression.
Frankly, it just does not sound like tubes to me. It does not sound like it's working hard. And putting an overdrive in front of it only provides a solid-state-clipped signal, and does NOT overdrive the power tubes, so it gives you a solid-state sound through a clean, tube power amp, which sounds the same to me as a solid-state preamp through a good, clean, solid-state power amp...Maybe this is why it doesn't provide the compression I expected?
Again, I apologize to those who love this amp. I expected and hoped I would love it, but I did not, after I played it for a while.

Sorry, but I just don't get it. Maybe I'm a nerd or something, but I HAVE been playing for about 17 years, and have played LOTS of different equipment. I am not a gear-geek, so this makes me immune to "gear hype."
So I bought a Crate VC508 instead. I demo-ed it a lot, too, and I just really think it sounds great (see my review of it, too).
Go listen to lots of amps and FORM YOUR OWN opinion.

This amp sounds fantastic. I actually own two of them. I have both tweed and tolex. MY setup: Gibson Melody Maker or Fender Bullet s-3 thru a SansAmp-GT2 thru a ZOOM 1010, thru a Boss PS-3 (stereo) into 1 Pro junior into a 15" closed Cab, the other Pro Junior into it's own speaker. With the combination of the SansAmp and the combined 30 watts of power, I can get all the amp sounds and volume I need for any application. I also have various sets of tubes I use with the amp for more sound variation ( the amp has a fixed bias and all you need to do is pop in the tubes). Using two Pro Juniors together gives me that extra headroom I need for clean playing. In this one little hybrid package I get it all, Fender, Marshall, Boogie, AC30, and if I need to go smaller, I just leave one amp at home.

This is an update to my - rather disappointed - submission from dec. 29th. I finally hooked it up to my 2x12" Marshall-cab loaded with "Greenback"-Celestions and I must say: it blew me away. Almost NO clean sounds left though (unless you pick very gently), but the room was vibrating with 15 huge watts of tube-power - WOW! First I tried it with an Epiphone Riviera w/big humbuckers and it was outrageous but my friends tele was also very pleasantly screaming. I immediatly tried it with various other speaker-cabinets but the Celestions were the best match so far. I'm still disappointed with the stock sound though.

Think I'll get a bigger cabinet, load it with at least one "Greenback" 12"-speaker, rip the pj apart to get the chassis out and build my own little "Custom"-amp. Now, this should be a surprise. Go, try this at home!

I play a '65 Strat and a Fender D'Aquisto Elite hollow-body. I have a Fender Super Twin (180W all tube amp, 50 Kg.!) and I was looking for a little tube amp for rehersals and home playing. I play rhythm guitar and I like clean tone, I always liked Fender and Hiwatt amps, but here in Southern Italy is difficult to find vintage Fender's and I've never seen a Hiwatt amp other than the old mine (but I gave it away ten years ago because it was huge, what a mistake!). Well, I bought the Pro Jr. but I have been disappointed soon because playing the Strat the clean tone was poor and not punching, and playing the hollow body (which has a higher output level) the clean headroom wasn't almost at all. Also this amp is midrange boosted, strictly blues oriented. It is somewhat noisy, much more hissing than Super Twin. I think the amp has anyway too much gain but I don't like to turn down the guitar volume because it affects the sound clarity. I now use a Barcus Berry preamp to better control gain and tones, finally getting a REALLY GOOD "crystal clean" Fender tone, when I need. This is a pretty good blues amp with a wonderful warm tone. It's loud. The unique tone controls is more efficient than I could expect. However it's a good idea to stay on the speaker axis, elsewhere you should hear "boxed" sound.

It seems well built, but there is an annoying buzz from the speaker playing some bass notes, due to resonances captured by the output tubes. It's a cheap amp and the pots are bad. Turning off the volume knob does not silent completely the amp. A standby switch should be welcome too. The guy in the store said that this amp doesn't need it, but I can't understand why. Maybe is there some circuit to delay the current going to the output tubes? I think no! You could gig with this baby in small and medium club, especially if you don't play pretty clean.

I am forty and play guitar since I was a boy. I've been professional for eight years. For the money and for playing rock-blues this amp is really good. It lacks the chance to play clean rhythm but using some device to control gain and tones you can play anything with very good tone quality. IMHO the preamp section could be better. Perhaps the Blues Jr. could be a more versatile amp, but I never played it and I should have to pay twice for it. Every store in area has Pro Jr.'s, no one the Blue Jr. They told me that Fender offers good discounts to stores for Pro Jr. stocks (in Italy). Probably I would buy it again for the same price, but I would compare it with the Blues Jr.

Recent model PJ. Has the black tolex and brown logo speaker. The simplest amp on the market. One volume, one tone. The speaker plugs into a jack in the back, so you can unplug the amp's speaker and hook up a cab. All tube circuitry, not sure about the rectifier though. Stock Fender tubes(not Groove Tubes). I was gonna go with the Blues Junior, but my friends at the TDP raved about this one, and with good cause! The BJ defeats the purpose of a small, simple, great sounding amp anyways. Would like more tone controls, but I didn't buy this amp for that! Also, I paid $250 for it at Sam Ash. Don't make the same mistake. Find a used one for around $150 or new for no more than $200.

Well I use a Jimmy Page Les Paul, a Fender Jag-Stang w/ Duncan JB, and an Electra LP with Duncan/'59. This amp is just killer! I bet this would make an excellent recording amp. This thing was made for blues and rock. Metalheads go elsewhere, the tone's too good for you. I was home alone recently in a house with vaulted ceiling and finally got to use this amp without a fuzzbox. Wow! Just running straight into it makes you smile. Ever hear the Mayall/Clapton "Beano" album? Well crank this baby up to 12(that's right Nigel, 12!)with the tone around 8, and you have that Bluesbreakers tone with an LP. I've noticed that this amp distorts at different levels depening on the jack you plug it into. Must be differing voltages. Some places, it stays clean till around 6. Others, till 4. Only 15 watts, but still plenty loud.
I used this jamming with a very loud drummer(think Bonzo), and I didn't even crack it up to 6! Just make sure you put it up higher towards your ears. The clean sounds are pretty good too. Classic Fender clean. But all in all, this amp was made to rock. I heard former Custom Shop man Bruce Zinky saying they wanted to design a small amp like the old Champs without a bad sounds in it. Well bravo!

This amp is very reliable. It's survived a cross-country move, bouncing around in the trunk of a Miata, and 5 hour long jams. Only had it around 5 months, so no servicing as of yet. No retubing as of yet, cause I'm happy with the stocks. If you could advise me if some new tubes(this is my first ALL tube), please mail me. 2 gripes though. One of the tubes is microphonic and there's hissing at the higher volumes. But that's probably normal to tube amps. I also once picked up a radio station.

I've been playing 4 years and this is my fave amp. Kinda reminds me of the old Supros Pagey used in the studio. I can't wait to do some recording with this. Cranked to high heaven, it's deafening and toneful as hell. NO fuzz needed. I also own a hybrid Legend A60 head going thru a Fender 4by12. This amp kicks it's half SS ass! For only a 10" speaker, the tone is real beefy. Think early Clapton and early Gibbons. I'd sure buy another one. Good enough for small gigs miked up, and perfect for jamming. Like I said, I'd like more EQ, but I didn't buy this amp for that. I should try it thru a cab and see how it sounds. I totally recommend this for recording, and just plain great tone. If your idea of tone is a tiny SS Kustom amp, shell out a few more clams and get a PJ.

I play classic/alternative rock and some bluesy/singer/songwriter stuff. I got this used in mint condition at a fair price, mainly because I wanted to check it out. You know that everyone's raving about this little amp. But as it is I must say, that I am frankly disappointed. We had a little tweed-amp shootout only yesterday and this has been killed (I mean killed) by my Blues Junior. We used a US Std. Strat and a Les Paul Special with P 90`s and in comparison to the BJ this amp sounded small and boxy and could not cut through at full volume vs. half way up on the BJ. BTW we only played guitars, there were no bass or drums. It does have some nice sounds though, but they're all gone as soon as somebody else enters the room. It's clean only up to 4 on the scale, then it gets gritty and it does really good distortion as you turn it UP. The tone knob works well, but I keep it low because at higher settings it gets too bright for my tastes. I think it could be a good amp for recording. It does hiss quite a bit when it's turned up.

I've been playing for more than 15 years and have owned/own several amps, mainly fenders and marshalls from twelve to fifty watts. I wouldn't get it again. Although I really had a lot of sympathy for this little amp it was a disappointment. It was quite surprising how small it sounded compared to the Blues Junior (same wattage!). Maybe some experimenting with other tubes would help with the obvious shortcomings of this amp (as mentioned in other submissions) or hooking it up to a bigger cabinet - but why would you want a small amp if you have to bring your 4 X 12 anyway. What I do like about the PJ is the "clean to drive" volume knob and some of the sounds from the "blue"-speaker. If you like these small amps and want to use one to play through (not only recording sessions) I highly recommend the BLUES JUNIOR. You get way more amp for a little more money.

Firstly, I use a Fender Tele without any distortion/overdrive boxes. This amp has 'tone'. You know what I'm talking about, some amps (usually the expensive ones!) just give your guitar a big round sound and this amp has it. It really is inspiring and it makes you wanna play and play. Sound wise, it sounds similar to other fifties tweed fenders like the bassman. Don't expect sparkling clean black or silver face twin tones, this amp doesn't wanna be clean. I have a Jazz playing mate who used it for a while and was mucho pissed off as he couldn't turn it up beyond 3. Half way up it's gritty and bluesy, give it some more and it gets filthy, give it the full whack and it turns ballistic! Simple and effective.

To be honest, they weren't cheap new but they do pop up for good prices second hand. I would definately buy one again. I love mine cos it has character. It's a bit dirty and beaten up now too which makes it look more the part too. Lately I've been thinking about buying another and having someone refit it with a Fender three knob tube reverb, know that would be so cool. I haven't ever gigged with it but I would like to. I can imagine that it would look kinda stupid and small up there on the stage sitting behind you but I bet it wouldn't sound like that. Thinking about it, it does sound so good you would go to all that hassle of miking it up. All self respecting guitarists should own at least one.

I play in a club cover band. There are six people on stage. We play everything from disco to hard rock. I can coax all the tones I need out of this amp with my Strat, an MXR DynaComp compressor and a Tube Screamer. It's missing a little of the room filling power of my Marshall amps but thats what the PA is for.

I have been playing professionaly since 1986. I have owned and used dozens of Marshall, Fender and Peavey amps. They all sounded great too but were always a hassle to move from gig to gig. This little Pro Junior is small, easy to move yet still packs enough sound for me to play live. I would, and in fact, already plan to buy a second one to set-up a stereo rig. Worth every penny!

When I bought this amp I was looking for a non-master volume amp that would cover all the tone bases relying just upon my guitar and amp: the pro junior succeded. The pro's clean tone is nice, but I incredibly miss the reverb for my tone. I didn't get the blue junior because its reverb relyed on a solid-state circuit, aka tone-sucking. However, this amp really shines when you push the power tubes and get rewarded with a variety of overdrive tones. This amps covers most of the tonal bases, light clipping to gonzo rock! With a pedal, this amp can really crunch. As my other guitarist noticed, this amp is really voiced for a rock distortion, clean playing is a bit insipid with this amp: this tiger just wants you to crank it. The amp has a bit of mid-range hump which allows one to cut through the mix. Other points, this amp is very loud and can easily power a 4 x 12 cab, like my Hi-Watt. Actually, this amp sounds great through the cab!! Another point from my fellow bud guitarist though, this amp needs a few more watts to stand alone as a club amp. During band rehearsals the pro would seem to benefit from a bit higher headroom.

Ahhh, the wonders of the modern mass-producing man. My amp has shown some inconsistent performance. The original speaker crapped out on me quite early, it developed a small tear on the cone. Fortunately, my bud helped me with my tone by leading my his old warhorse, a nice big fat EV 12 inch speaker: boy, is this speaker spankin' loud! While the speaker overwhelms the cab it's in, I can really overwhelm the crowd with my great rock sounds. Also, once in a while, the amp will also fad in and out volume wise. The Pro is a nice amp but at times I really worry about its durability.

Nice silverface on mine.
Brand new.
Maybe I would get the Blues Junior if I were doing it again, for the Reverb and the 12 inch speaker but, on the other hand, I got this cause it's small - 10 pounds lighter than the Blues Junior. Who knows, maybe if I ever pay off my bills, I'll get a Blues Junior, as well.

I play reggae, ska, blues, rock, and pop. I play a Melody Maker, a LP Special with P-90's and a Tele. I play clean a lot, but like a little natural dirt. I also like to experiment with different sounds.
All I can say is this amp is heavenly. Sounds good in any combination, and there are many combinations available by adjusting the two knobs.
I start playing on this amp and just don't want to stop. I have been playing a long time and can enjoy playing through the most bogus amps, but this one is really sweet. A great deal for the money.

Been playing for 25 years. This is my new practice amp, although it's loud if you need it to be. I have gigged with it already and was really surprised at its ability to handle a room with a couple of hundred people, and this was un-miked!
It is so cool to be able to walk into a gig with this amp, so easy on the arms and the back. I can't use it for every gig, but so what? I have a bigger amp for that. This is one of those quality things that you can be happy with for as long as you own it. It and its sound will never get tired. In other words, it's a classic, in my opinion. Fender came up with a winner on this one. It's in the great tradition of the Champ and the 600 and it was designed by a guy who obviously knows what he's doing.

I've tried it with single coil & Lace Sensor equiped Strats. I play rock, blues, jazz, country. The volume control jumps RADICALLY at about "4" on the dial. Tone jumps at "4" also. Above or below this, not much change. Distortion is uninspiring. Clean sounds are VERY POOR.

I have 7 other amps of various power and configurations. I've been playing for 30 years. I bought this amp based on the reviews on this web site. I'm sorry I did. This is the only Fender product that I ever bought that I am unhappy with. At any volume, or any tone, it sounds like a cheap guitar is plugged into it with the guitar tone rolled off. Very "BLAH" sounding. I've tried various brands of NOS tubes, various external speakers, to no avail. This thing also has a bad hum. This could be due to the lack of no preamp tube shields. The potentiometers are small cheap parts. Opening up the feedback wire improved the sonic character a little. Mine is the tweed version with a ceramic magnet speaker. It Looks good. But that's all it has going for it. I play live gigs where my amp is mic'd. Various Les Pauls & Strats have been plaved thru this thins. It still sounds bad. There are better blues amps out there. Pass on this one.

OK I'll add my two cents too on this amp. There seems to be a lot of review of it. I'm putting no opinion in the features section here. Its' got almost none and that's the point isn't it? OK. I use a Charvel maple neck strat style with EMG SA pickups for mostly blues and roots style aproaches. Love this amp. Loud enough for small to medium gigs even. Especially if I hook it up to my Peavey 4x10 cab. Nice. It's kinda like a mini-Bassman reissue with out any fuss. Just turn it up, up up till it's as distorted as you need it and then use your guitar volume to clean up for rythm. Remember, were talking blues tone here not Mettalica! (Yecchhh!)

sounds awesome, just one problem, if you need a good amp for jazz band (practice) andd the like it breaks up to soon. With a Fender Jaguar rhythem setting is starts to distort single notes at 4 to 5(vol) and at 3 to 4 for lead (nice sounding bluesy distortion but no clean for sure) an American standard strat breaks up between 6 to 7. For recording this is good because they have about the same physical decibal output, so you can almost keep your levels on the board the same.

I am teling you it really really worked on a stock black pro junior the sound is so sharp that even on five out of 12 through 2 12s you are pushing air this is only 15 watts. so we have it set on 5 and 6 volume and treble respectively and hook up to a danelectro daddy o treble down mid and bass up volume::::::up on this pedal you can get so much more low gain feedback or back it down and turn up the distortion do you get the picture this set up into a 2 12 mesa boogie cab rivals the fender 40 watt i have well anyway those 15 watts sure are sweet with a pedal

The features here are exactly what I was looking for -- single tone knob and volume -- but with the exception of reverb. Also note that this is the only 100% pure tube model in this line. The Pro Junior, DeVille, etc.? Their reverb units and other features are solid state driven. I used this amp for harp only and wanted the flexibily to tweak the preamp tubes to my liking. Putting 12ATs in let me really howl without feedback problems. And the 10" speaker broke up nicely, a plus for harp but maybe not for you six-string types. (With that said, however, I bought it from our guitar player who had "upgraded" -- more than once he said he wished he hadn't let go of this pup.)

As I said I played harp (blues and rock) through this bad boy primarily using a Shaker mic (bullet-type distortion) or a Shure SM58 when I could borrow one. I love to pull that tone knob down to about 2 or 3 for a real bassy tone and then sit the volume at 5-7 where it'll start to fuzz up some but not run off into feedback land. For you harp players out there, note that this is with 12AT preamp tubes. It'll change up some with the stock 12AXs ... but I strongly advise you get rid of those ASAP anyway. A mic's input is much higher that guitar so changing the preamp tubes to, say, 12ATs or 12AYs or even 12AUs is a must. I'd reckon that this voids the hell out of the warranty but fret not, this amp is made for the long long haul.

This thing is a rock. It's been dropped, snowed on, cranked to 11 for a long night of harp burn and nothing could phase it. The reliability is a super plus because you don't want an amp to start getting weird on you just when the speaker was developing that nice, worn-in tone.

I'm looking for a new amp now (I left it in Europe not wanting to deal with the power conversion thing). I don't think I'd buy another simply because I want to have reverb. If Santa Claus came tomorrow bearing the gift of a top-notch tube reverb pedal, though, yeah, I'd probably go back to the Pro. Real players (not garage band shriekers) know what real tone is all about and this has it. That PJ was my pride and joy.

Sure, it'd be nice to have reverb, tremelo, and/or an effects loop.
One plug in, an "on" switch, volume and tone. I've heard that a standby switch would be a good addition.
No problem running to a different speaker, if desired
I've used this amp to play in a big stage band, and it did okay, but was on the ragged edge.
Fantastic for recording or less challenging venues. It's a loud 15 watts.
The ceramic magnet (brown) speaker is louder than the blue frame, but not as sweet in the tone department.

It's a tone machine! Very quiet. I play with a Tele, Les Paul Pro (P-90's) and an ES-347. The ES-347's pickups push this amp a little too hard (strange overtone when the volume's flat-out), but I hate those high-output pickups anyway.
I've played old jazz, country, and blues/rock, and it handles all of it.
Very responsive and crisp at the higher tone settings, and warm at the lower settings.
Nice and crunchy blues when loud, plenty of snap on cleaner settings.

As mentioned in all of the other rave reviews, this amps setup is very simple. With one volume and one tone control, it's obvious that Fender wanted to build an amp that tries to do one thing very well - sound great. The tone control seems to mainly regulate the upper-mids (which are quite strong on this amp). I find that the 15 watts this amp puts out are surprisingly loud enough for rehearsals & shows. My very loud drummer has actually asked me to turn down. Since my ideal setup in an amp is utter simplicity, I give this amp a "10" in features.

My main guitar is a Fender Telecaster '63 re-issue with a Duncan stack in the lead position. Since this guitar is darker in tone than most Teles, it works well with the bright/chimey tone of this amp. I tend to run my Pro Jr. through a Mesa 2x12 dual recto cabinet with vintage 30's in it. I have to say that this combination works really well for me. The amps built in speaker sounds good practicing at home, but it doesn't sound big enough in full band scenarios. The 2x12 cab adds just enough low end girth. With the amp set on seven and the tone on six, this amp is great for a crunchy rhythm sound that cleans up very nicely with your volume control to an almost Vox like shimmer and chime. There is not much headroom on tap (15 watts, remember).

I can't say that it can do everything but it does what it does incredibly well. The other guitarist in my band has medium distortion envy right now. If I have learned anything about amps, I would say that no one amp can cover all of the bases. I would ideally like to own amps by Fender, Marshall and Vox to have access to what each does best. The Fender Pro Jr. is an excellent addition to anyone's amp arsenal.

Using a '68 Epiphone Sheraton and a new Yamaha Pacifica (strat copy), this little amp cooks. Great clean and overdrive tones for blues, jazz, most rock. Far more "punch", but less "thump", than the Fenders with 12" speakers. Fantastic sensitivity to pick attack. Nothing beats the sound of output tubes in saturation. Too bad Fender chose a solid-state rectifier (probably the only obstacle to achieving a "10" rating for sound).

Volume, tone, 2 12AX7's, 2 EL84's, 10" alnico blue speaker. My rating for this category does not reflect my enthusiasm for this amp. I just feel that this amp's strong suit is in it's ability to dial in old Fender/blues tone. With this in mind, the rating for this category would be much higher. I'm not sure however, that a metal head would dig this amp as much as a blues/old rock player.

I use a PRS EG, CE and a 335 with this amp. With the EG, this amp takes on an old Princeton vibe at low volume. When the volume is increased to 5-7 the amp takes on a really cool distorted texture that is great for blues and works very well with the EG's Fralin p.u.'s. With my PRS CE, the amp takes on a more aggressive edge. At higher settings however, the sound becomes a little too compressed for me. But remember, on my CE the p.u.'s are pretty hot, lower output p.u.'s seem to fare better IMHO. My 335 really likes this amp. As long as you don't go too high on the volume, this guitar really speaks through this amp. For the most part, the amp is pretty dynamic and cleans up well. In comparing the Pro Jr. to my Blues Jr. I would sum it up like this: the Blues Jr. IMO, is more versatile and is able to get a louder clean tone than the Pro Jr., but the drive on the Pro Jr. is better, especially the higher gain tones. The Blues Jr. sounds a lot like my Twin and I guess that the Pro Jr. is closer to a tweed Deluxe (not that I actually own one, just from what I remember how the one I heard sounded). This is a great little amp and would probably just smoke in a recording situation.

I would go so far as to say that this is one of the finer amps that Fender has made in a long time (along with the Blues Jr.). These are the kind of amps that a lot of us expect from Fender and wish that they would stick to these kind of designs when drawing up new amps. I know that my review doesn't do this amp justice so be sure to check one out if you get the chance, I think that you will be pleasantly surprised.

This amp is very basic, just a volume and a tone. However the volume doubles as a gain setting when set beyond a level of 5. The tone control is very responsive, you get a lot of different singing sounds between 1 and 12. I use this amp for both practice and jamming. It is more than loud enough for these applications. When jamming, my friends typically use 60 what tube amps by Carvin or Marshall, and at normal playing levels, used for blues, rock & roll etc. I can always be heard clearly. My friends comments, "that is a kickin little amp" or " that amp has balls".

I use 3 different guitars. An 80's American made Fender Bullet, a Jackson Soloist STD, and a Peavey Raptor. I also use a Zoom 1010, a Boss digital delay/pitch shifter and a CryBaby wah. I have been playing for about 30 years and play a variety of styles. This amp sounds really great clean or dirty. I don't feel limited in any style. It sounds really nice as a clean blues amp. Surprisingly, it has made my rather cheap Peavey Raptor sound much better than it is. The distortion kicks in at about a volume of 7. If you want to get some cool feedback set the tone to 12 and stand realatively close to the amp.

When I bought the amp one of the preamp tubes was microphonic. I have owned some of the vintage amps when they were not vintage. I owned a Fender quad reverb once. The Pro Junior has a better range of natural tube sounds, than the Quad reverb did. I really love the simplicity of it. I don't have to worry about amp settings. It just does it's job by producing very nice singing tube sounds. I would by this amp again in a second. I have the tolex version. It would be nice to have the tweed version also. I do wish that my version had the Groove Tubes that Fender is putting in their upcoming US tubes amps

This amp is incredible. I have owned a 70's vintage fender quad reverb that had more power, but could not hold a candle to the Pro Jr in sound quality. I like the punch of the 10" speaker even better than the 12's on some models. I have been playing for 30 years, every style, and have owned today's vintage stuff when it was new. I tell you this amp is the best I have owned. I play an 80's Fender Bullet, a Jackson soloist standard and a cheap peavey raptor, thru it using a Zoom 1010, pedal echo and CryBaby. Even the Peavey sounds great thru this thing. I like to use the Peavey, neck and middle pickup combo, guitar tone 7, amp vol at 2, amp tone at 9, with the Zoom set at a blues patch. Man this sounds just like SRV. Oh yeah, This amp is loud, LOUD, I mean LOUD!!

I have had to take mine back to the dealer, because one of the preamp tubes was microphonic. The dealer had it back in a couple of hours. They replaced the Fender tube with a Sovtek. This did alter the sound a bit, but not for the worse. I found out in the process that you do not have to bias this amp when replacing tubes. This means I can do my own tubing in the future for around $50 for a complete refit.

Fender has a good warranty. My tubes are covered for 90 days and the rest of the amp for 5 years. They followed up on the tube warranty service with a service survey, which I returned to them, pleased.

This amp would be great for a beginner or experienced player. The beginner will appreciate not having to trade up. The experienced player will be amazed at the possiblities for sound expression that this amp gives you. I used these Harmony Central comments when I went searching for an affordable tube amp. I found that what they said about the Pro Jr is true. I would definitly buy it again and again. Thanks to all you folks for posting such rave reviews for this amp. It helped me to make one of the best purchases of equipment I have ever made.

I play primarily Blues. I recorded using just the PJ a pro co Rat pedal with a low distortion setting, and a slight bit of delay- using a Les Paul Standard, Neck pickup, tone control rolled about half down, miced with an SM57 and I got the most AMAZING, singing, Clapton woman-tone you can get! Big amps? BOSH! Who needs 'em!!

The controls of this amp are damn near perfect for me. It has no features except tone. No loop, no reverb, nothing. I use an outboard reverb unit with it. I don't thnk adding features to this amp would o anyting psitive for the tone. The simplicity creates the purity of tone. I use this amp for rehearsal and a second pro junior (using two) for many gigs. I've used bigger amps but I've never used a better one. One thing I wish Fender would do is ugrade the tubes they use. Even Sovtek EL84s are a substantial upgrade. Ruby STR7025 preamp tubes sound great in this amp.

I'm using this Telecasters and a Les Paul Junior with these amps. I use Fralin or Van Zandt single cls in the Teles and a Duncan Pearly Gates in the LPJ. The amp suits my style about perfectly. I'm looking for a Custom Vibrolux Reverb to buy but there are moments when I think I'd be better off just buying another one of these (45 watts, three 10s, sounds like a bassman to me). The amp can be noisy with single coils or outboard effects turned on, especially overdrive pedals like the TS9. I use a Dyna Comp for slide and some fuzz but the amp does it better, really. This amp can make nice clean Fender tones and great gritty overdrive for blues. If you're looking for hair metal tones, this isn't your amp but for just about anything else, it has it. The distortion is not brutal enough for metal.

The achilles heel of this amp, besides the crappy Fender tubes, are the speakers. While they're sonically excellent and rated at 30 watts, I've blown them in a PJ. Replacements aren't expensive (I just picked up two Mojo MP10Rs, identcal to the Blue Alnicos for $80) Both my as are the tweed models but I hear tnder went to ceramic magnet speakers in the tolex models. The alnicos sing but I wouldn't use an O/D pedal while it was cranked, the clipped waveform would probably be enough to blow the speakers. Despite the vulnerability f the speakers, I'll keep using them.

I've been playing for 31 years and this might be the best amp, dollar for dollar, Fender has ever made. They nailed it with this one. I love the Custom Vibrolux Reverb and will buy one when funds permit but until that happens, or if I decide to buy another PJ, these will do. If it were lost, I'd buy nother in a heaertbeat. No hesitation. I didn't really compare it to similarly priced products because in tuibe amps, there really aren't any I know of.

I play a lot of different styles, and I have to say that it sounds totally awesome for cleaner stuff. Using a Gibson Country Gentleman and playing blues or country, it puts out just enough bass for the size of the amp - you can't expect much more (but you can wish, can't you?). The cranked settings are totally cool - lots of controllable feedback and beautiful compression. For (dare I say it) heavier rock, I've tried the amp cranked with my Parker Fly and a Korg Pandora Box. On the scooped mid settings with heavy bass from the Pandora, the cabinet just can't handle it - it resonates like crazy and you just can't get that tight low end. But in all fairness, this amp wasn't designed to do this.

I was in search of a good, light amp to jam around with, and this seemed to be the only tube amp that was both light enough and had the right price. I also own a Hot Rod Deluxe and an ADA MP-1 rack with a Marshall 4x12 and 1x12, so I think I have most of my bases covered. For clean stuff, you can't beat the Fenders, but for heavier stuff the MP-1 does the job. The rack is just a little too cumbersome to jam with.
I looked into the Laney LC15 and the Songworks Little Lanilei amp, but couldn't play either of them (no dealers in Hawaii). I don't think you can beat the Pro Jr. for what it does, especially considering that at 20 pounds is about the lightest amp you can find that will sound this good. Just recognize that it does only one thing really well. I wanted a lightweight amp that I could use with my Pandora box and Parker Fly and have a world of sounds at my fingertips. This won't work for that application. I'd definitely look into the Mesa Subway Rocket, but it still weighs ten pounds more that the Pro Jr.
Yeah - I'd buy another one.

Purchased my first Pro Jr. right after they were shown at the NAMM show a few years ago. It is one of the first run and it's been my #1 amp since then. I own a 1995 Holland 40watt Bassman combo with reverb(3x10+1x10for reverb), a 1962 Selmer Zodiac Twin-Thirty 2z12(with tremelo), a 1996 Fender Prosonic 2x10(with reverb), a Risson LTA head w/reverb & tremelo, a Risson Clone head, and a Risson CTA 1x12 combo-all extremely fine amps. I have played most of the boutique amps and most of the major brands. For my money, the Pro.Jr is, dollar for dollar, the best amp in the world. Spoke with Bruce Zinky about it once, and he said that when they were designing the Pro. Jr. it was their goal to make an amp without a bad sound in it. To my ear, they succeeded. No matter where you set the tone and volume, no matter what type of guitar or effect, it sounds great. It is also the loudest 15 watts I've ever played. It is more than loud enough for small gigs and will push both my 16ohm Greenback-loaded 4x12 and my G12H-30 2x12 cabinets (in parallel through my EH Swichblade)easily to reasonably high levels. Have 2 2x10 extension cabs for it as well, but I actually like it's sound best through it's internal speaker, though I do prefer to be about 45 degrees off axis from it. The only feature it didn't have was a standby switch, which I had added by Ed Sanner of Sanner Electronics. Have spoken with Mark Baier of Victoria Amps about making a 4 tube version of it now that he's figured out how to preserve the sound of a low powered amp at twice the power(Double Deluxe). I hate micing amps-that's why I have so many of different power levels. The Pro.Jr. is great as it is, and if I need a bigger one, I'll call Mark. A tip: use a Jan 5751 in the first spot and a very low noise 12AX7 in the second. Also, use Philips 6BQ5's in the output section-these upgrades are worth it! If you love the stock sound, you'll lust after the upgraded one. Have always had difficulty dialing in "THE SOUND" on amps, usually because their were too many knobs-the Pro. Jr's 1-volume, 1-tone, 1-input are just right for me-I play lots of blues and rock, but also have quiet, fingerstyle parts, too-the Pro.Jr. handles them all. It makes any guitar played through sound like it should. It's a 10 in my book.

Simplicity is wonderful. A knob for tone, a knob for volume. It doesn't need anything else. Whether I use a Jerry Donahue stompbox or my ART SGX 2000-Express for to enhance my sound this amp always delivers. And it's always loud enough! For such a small amp it packs a wallop. I regularly play with guys who have 4x10 cabinets and separate heads, and this amp can always be heard! All those year I busted my ass lugging monster amps around...now when I go out to play I laugh at everyone else getting a hernia. I can carry all my gear in one trip! I give it a 10 for simplicity and function.

I play a variety of rock genre styles using a Rickenbacker 330 and a '62 re-issue Fender Jazzmaster. From Britpop to noise rock (no hair metal please!) this amp always gives me a crisp, clean tone that especially sounds great in a studio setting. In rehersal I rarely have to run the volume over '5' to be heard clearly. But, beyond '5 you start to get that great tube driven overdrive sound, that's when it gets dirty.

I've thought about buying a second Pro Jr. for live stereo applications. Shop around before you buy this amp. Check the WEB, make some calls, and don't pay over $230! The dealer cost on these is around $100 so don't get skunked and pay $279 like my local guitar store tried to charge me. Assholes!

This amp has only 1 volume and 1 tone control. No reverb, no gain, no middle, no separate bass & treble, no loops, no red sound, brown sound, green sound, 4 X 12 cab simulation, etc. To me, this is mostly good, so the low rating for features is not a drawback to me.

Good meaty tone, hard to believe all that sound comes out of 1 ten inch speaker. On ten, it produces a good Fendery distorted sound. Clean up to about 5, at which point its pretty loud. Easily loud enough to use for practice with a drummer.

There is a lot to like about this amp- small size, light weight, overall good sound, definite tube tone, ample volume & distortion, cool looks. Until a month ago or so I would definitely have given this a 'buy again' tag, but then a friend of mine bought a used '65 Bassman for about $250, which he is currently playing through 2 10's. The Bassman is a much, much better amp than the Pro Junior, and there seem to be a lot of them around for under $300. Paired with a small cab, the Bassman is quite portable, and is way more amp- more power, much better sounds all around. I'd save my $230 (Pro Junior) and go true vintage. If you really must have a very small combo, the PJ is a good value.

This is a tiny amp. However, don't let it fool you! Remember, good things come in small packages, and this amp is simply great! It only has a volume knob and a tone knob. It's simplicity and power, not to mention EXTREMELY good blues, jazz, country, and rock (not metal) tones. If you are gigging in a small club, or a large club with a good PA, this is the amp for you!

I bought one in 1995. I bought my 2nd one last year. The first is tweed, the 2nd is beige tolex. The changes are only cosmetic. They both deliver the goods. I use a strat with a variety of analog stomp boxes. I have also used a 335, les paul, and tele with equally successful results. A primary feature of this little tone gem is its natural breakup. It can be pushed to 12 (yes, "These go to 12"--- Mr. Tufnel!) and all you get is a sweet, natural overdrive with plenty of note definition. Also, this thing is the ULTIMATE recording amp. I used it on a session, and when I walked in, my Marshall heaving mates laughed at me in disbelief... with good miking techniques, this thing sounds like godzilla in the control room... needless to say, the laughing stopped!!!

Because it's only 15 watts you can turn it up all the way and play volume. I play blues and jazz and found the clean tone to be wonderful with a 335. as I get the volume past half way it begins to break up. With a strat it stays cleaner longer due to the difference in pick up output. Turning the volume way up you get amazing crunch with plenty of sustain, less so with the fender of coarse. It dosen't do the super LA hair band crunch which is fine by me. The tone control acts like tone pot on a guitar. Full on seem bright and clear and rolling it off darkens things a bit. I tend to favor rolling it off. I'm a fulltime guitarist playing clubs all over San Francisco and although I havn't tried yet, I think it's loud enough to play a small club. I use it as a back up for my 4x10 so I've done a few sound checks with it miked and it sounded huge. I havn't taken it to the studio but I imagine it would be amazing on tape.

I'd buy it again. I traded in a Fender Blues Deluxe (40 tube watts 1x12) because it was too much amp for my little practice room. The Pro Junior is all I'd ever want. My local Fender heaven -- Wray's Music in Lemoyne PA -- gave it away for $199 new!! The only thing I'd like would be another instrument input for my cheapskate jamming partner who is ampless right now.
