Described well in previous reviews. Quite basic 2 channel tube amp.

Sound Quality : 9
I use Fender Strats and Baja Tele and I play blues and old rock.

OK, here's the deal. I got my S60 a year ago and now I finally realised how to tweak the sounds from this amp. Earlier I thought the pots should be at 5 which would be the zero point - WRONG! There is a big difference (and a problem) how the clean and od channels use the eq section. The problem with the od channel is exaggerated crispyness or fizzyness and its lacking bass when gain is at 5. I turned the od on and gain to 4 and set all eq pots to zero, opened up the bass to 3 and presence to 5. WOW! I have a bassman sound with chimey highs and pronounced mids with nice clipping distortion. How about high gain rock sound? Set the gain to 8 and mid to 1 and tweak the fizz out wiht precence pot. Working from zero point gives better possibilities to create famous sounds with the od channel. Keep the treble always at 0 and mid at 0-2.
The clean channel then? Set the eq pots to 5 and start tweaking from there and you get nice chimey cleans or thick jazz sounds.

There are problems with this amp - shared eq, fizziness of the od, no possibility to bias unless you install optional bias kit (but how to use it?!!), no famous mods due to small amount of users and difficulties to operate the components inside...
Despite of all this when you get the amp working it's really good. You can fine tune it with good NOS tubes, especially Mullard 4024 in V3, swap the speaker to something with more character, change the reverb tank to a bigger one.

Do you want more sound out the phase inverter tube? Use a volume box in the fx loop and you get a nice power tube saturated sound!

You can get many kind of sounds from this little amp and it will pearce through a mix easily in band.

Reliability : 9
No reliability probs yet!

Customer Support : 5
Repairing is difficult because the pcb is upside down. I consider sawing a hatch to the chassis which would allow easy access to all components.
The reverb buzzes quite much, so I might take the amp to tech and have the bias kit installed too.
Fender does not offer manual nor scheme for free, but you can google and find them on the net.

Overall Rating : 8
I give 8 for the amp because I'm picky and the amp has obvious issues. Anyway, after a year of using it I have started to know its character and I'm getting good sounds out of it.
Would I buy another one? No, I might invest to a custom made tube amp.

I like the low price and the dark horse role it has on markets.

I recommend the S60 to everyone who desires a powerful, compact, inexpensive, flexible amp.

Reliability : No Opinion

Customer Support : No Opinion

USA made in 1989.
You can do any style of music with this amp. Use pedals !
2 channels by footswitch or just push the small red button.
60 watt is loud !!
Plenty of Bass and Treble in it , a little compressed.

Sound Quality : 10
I use a ESP Grassroots (GREAT GUITAR! Les Paul model).
Nice clean and distorted sound.
The Eminence speaker is OK . I put in a Jensen P12Q and this is not a good combination with the Super 60 so I changed back to the Eminence. Big magnet on this one.

Reliability : 9
Change the inputs they are lousy . Never had any problems with the amp.

Customer Support : No Opinion
Never dealt with Fender.

I play since Napoleon. If it were stolen I would uhh........do nothing.
I love the sound of this relatively small amp. I hate it's weight.

This is a red knob, two channel 1x12. I believe it was made some time in the late 1980s to early 1990s. There are separate volume/gain controls for the drive channel, shared eq, reverb, an effects loop, line out, external speaker jack, and footswitch for the channels. I suppose no footswitch control of reverb and shared eq are drawbacks, but this does not bother me.

Sound Quality : 9
I use this amp in a classic rock cover band - Stones, Beatles, Cream, Dylan, etc. I use a Mexican Strat with noiseless pickups and occassionally a 78' Les Paul Standard. I find I like the sound of the single coils for the music I play. It's also better on my back. I use a Boss GE-7 and SD-1 in the front end and Boss Bass EQ, Boss Chorus, and Boss Delay in the loop.

I had the amp retubed after I purchased it and it is very quiet. With the above set up I can get a good sustaining clean to powerful crunch and sustaining lead tone. This amp is well suited for County, Blues, Rock and Hard Rock. I don't know whether it would be a good choice for Heavy Metal. I imagine with right pedal it could do the job, although it would be very loud.

As many of the reviewers have noted, there is a large volume difference between channels. In fact, if I set the clean volume to about 9 and drive channel to 3, I still get a slight boost on the drive channel. The drive channel sounds very good and punchy. I can cover a wide range of tones with my eq pedals. The problem I have with the drive channel is that it is too loud ounce you hit the sweet spot. I find that the clean channel fits my volume needs once it is boosted with the eq and/or overdrive. I find I can get a decent tone at reasonable volumes. If I need more volume then I switch to the drive channel.

Reliability : 10
The only service I have had on the amp is retubing. I have not had any problems with it. It is built like a tank and is surprisingly heavy for a 1x12. I keep it covered when not in use. I have read that the knobs are fragile, but I have not had a problem.

I have been playing for close to 30 years. If it were lost or stolen, I have back ups; but I would probably buy another one if I came across one. They are out of production. But for the price, this is an excellent value and fits my needs perfectly.

I bought my Super 60 new in 1990. I was previously using a Sessionette 75 and before that a 1970s Selmer Treble 'n' Bass 50. Like all things it was a compromise choice; in this case between something small enough to move around but with a big enough sound. It is a twin channel amp but only has a shared set of tone controls limiting some of the channel switching versatility. It has an effects loop and a line out (never understood the point of this as you miss out on the 6L6's). Spring reverb (not Fender's best) and Presence control in the power stage. This is a seriously loud amp and competes with a Marshall stack with ease.

Sound Quality : 9
The clean channel is typical Fender - warm and rich with lots of top end. It does start to break up if you ever get to high enough volumes but that rather adds to the charm. The lead channel is relatively a lot louder than the the clean. The distortion can sound a little harsh but there's plenty of variabiltiy with the tone controls to go from crunch rhythm through to mid-heavy lead to modern scooped tones. The standard speaker is a little woolly in the bass but I've replaced this with a Celestion Vintage 30 which has increased the clean headroom even further and tightened up the sound dramatically (highly recommended). I now tend to use the clean channel only with a Pod XT Live in front of it for tone shaping. This gives enough variety for any style you like really. I use an old Yamaha SG2000 with active EMGs (H and 89) and tone controls (EXG and SPC). The whole setup sounds pretty good from clean high volume rhythm to super-saturated lead.

Reliability : 9
Never broken down but the input sockets are genuinely rubbish; always cutting out as you jiggle the jack. I replaced them with Switchcraft jacks (Torres Engineering do a kit with all the instructions which is really easy) and that fixed that for $18 + postage to the UK. Don't ever drop it though - it may not break the amp but your toes are unlikely to be so lucky - it's very heavy. If these do go wrong they are a pain to fix as to do anything on them you have to remove the PCB which is then not connected to anything to test it with so beware.

Customer Support : No Opinion
Never needed any

Overall Rating : 9
Been playing for over 25 years. These are getting hard to find now so may have to settle for something else if it was stolen but I'd miss it terribly. Wish it had two sets of tone controls (one for each channel).

Fender Super 60 in pristine condition. It came with pedal. The amp dates from the last build year, 1992. Plenty of apparent power with the distortion channel, seemingly less so with the clean channel. Still, when the volume button is turned up, even the clean channel is very loud.
Even though the combo is very small, it is also very heavy.

Sound Quality : 10
I got bored with my previous amp, a Peavey Classic 30. Even after changing the tubes/valves and exchanging the stock speaker with an Eminence Governor, the Classic 30 did not quite cut the cheese. In band rehearsals it sounded blandish. Not so with the Super 60! FInally I am able to be heard through the drummer and the Marshall stack guy standing next to me.
The distortion channel is very very versatile and you can get all kinds of sounds from it. Bluesy stuff, hard rock, 50's rock'n'roll, you name it. Nowadays I play only Fender Telecasters and they sound very good through this Fender Super 60.
I had in my mind to change the tubes, maybe even the speaker. But after using the Fender combo for a few months, I dismissed the idea, at least for now. Still, I've got some interesting tubes to experiment with later(some Valvos from the 60's for example).

Soundwise I can only rely on the experience gained by 30-odd years of playing the guitar. Not much, that is to say. I've owned (the ones I can remember) a Laney Klipp 100W, 3 Marshalls (all were tube amps of course), a Music Man, a rare Gibson amp, a Roland Cube 100w, a Gallien Kruger guitar amp and the Peavey I mentioned before. Plus quite a few smaller practise amps. So, compared to these, it seems I've finally reached the point of being genuinely happy with the sound.

It has to be said that I usually use the Super 60 with an extra 1*12" cabined (the speaker there is an Eminence/Fender from a Hot Rod Deluxe), which adds to the over all sound. Makes it more mellow. I do not use many effects, only a slap echo for some songs. I've always relied on the "less is more" and KISS (Keep it simple stoopid) axioms.

Reliability : 9
Seems to be very solid and sturdy. Others have warned about the possibility of breaking the red knobs. I do not think it is a problem if the combo is not manhandled. The input jacks are a bit delicate, though. I might have to install a pair of Switchcrafts in the future.

Customer Support : No Opinion
I have never dealt with them. As this is a 15 years old combo, there is no warranty.

Overall Rating : 10
I am actually looking for another unit, so I wouldn't have to lug the one I have back and forth when going to band rehearsals. I like the idea that something considered oldish (but not vintage), cheapish and not-so-good-sounding actually turns out to be this good. I could have bought a new Fender Hot Rod Deluxe, I'm glad I didn't.

First, let me say sorry because i don't speak english very well, i'm italian... We talk about Fender Super60, made in the late 1980. Dual channel(clean channel: good tone but low volume;dist channel: very loud, very good for blues and rock),1x12, effects loop, shared eq (most think it's a problem, but not for me). It's very small, but very heavy to carry on! Bought one year ago to have a good amp for gigs, it work so well that i'm impressed! I rate 9 because the lack of volume in the clean channel and it's weight

Sound Quality : 9
I play whit a 1983 Squier SQ stratocaster; i've try this amp with a lot of guitar (gibson flyng V, stratocaster u.s.a., paul red smith and more). I think this amp is marvellous (for 300 euro!), and i was really lucky to find them. It's perfect for rock and blues: the clean channel is a little bit trebly, but very lovely (but i wish it would have more volume!). The Dist channel is damn loud and very verasatile, you can use a lot of combination of gain and volume to obtain the sound you prefere. I rate 9 because the low volume of clean channel

Reliability : 9
I use this amp 3 times a week, and i take him always with me when i go on a gig.. it's small, and easy to carry, but very heavy! i think i will use some wheels in the future.. Bought used, after 3 months i had to replace valves and condenser: now i have RCA nos valves, that works great! I think it needs periodic controls (about every 5 years)
I rate 9 because of it's weight

Customer Support : No Opinion
when broken, i take it to a friend that works great!

Overall Rating : 10
Been playing 10 years. This is my first valve amp, i bought it because i see his low price compared to other amps, and i listen to the review i've readed here. It's steal at under 300 euros used! I think there isn't better choice for who wan't to spend so much money. Sure, there are amps that sounds better than him, but he works very well too. The only problems of this amp are two
1) first his the lack of volume in the clean channel, but I resolved whit a booster (ts808 or vox vbm-1 bryan may special)
2) it's so heavy! I wish it was more light!
Finally, for this price: i'd say the amp is perfect.. I love it and if it were stolen or lost i would buy it again (if i would find it)

60 watts, tube, 1 12" speaker, two channel (shared eq = disappointing), effects loop, line out, very loud, very heavy. Others as mentioned below. Keeps up with a loud drummer with little effort (7 or so on the clean channel).

Sound Quality : 8
The clean channel is very fender and can be dialed in to sound close to the older ones (I also have a mid-60s bandmaster which sounds stunning). This comes pretty close and is more portable. (well, it fits in a smaller space). The dirty channel "is what it is" as my tech put it. It does go really, really loud though.
I use the clean channel with a million effects in front and it takes to them very well.

Reliability : 6
I got it used, with wonky input jacks and shot tubes. My tech gave it the once over, put in new tubes, then noticed that only one was firing. He fixed that and it now can be used in sonic warfare. The original jacks were garbage.

Customer Support : No Opinion

I had read the good reviews on this forum and picked one up when I saw it for cheap on craigslist. At first it sounded pretty thin and quiet and I was disappointed. I then threw another $130 at it for parts/labor and it seems ready to go. As such, it is a darn good bargain.
Cool little combo amp from an overlooked period of fender's history. Is it as cool and as versatile as Rivera branded amps? No. Does it sound as good as Rivera amps? No. However, it is a really good little amp and cost a fraction of what he now builds.
I look forward to lugging it around for years to come, as it can do some nice "fender" cleans in a small (and loud) package. It is funny to watch amp stands creak under its weight. Overall, I'd do it again.

Made in approx. 1990. I bought it in Australia for about A$800. Very versatile although weighing a ton. Unfortunatley, I have lost channel foot-switch.

Amp has heaps of power. However, in a band/jamming context it can be overwhelmed by larger bass and guitar rigs.

After 16 years I probably need to replace tubes and possibly speaker.

It's been a great workhorse over the years and sounds just as good as when I bought it.

Sound Quality : 8
The clean channel is very good, typical fender. I use a 62' Strat and the combination is perfect. The clean sound is perfect for blues/jazz. I use clean at 5. Reverb is also very good.
Single EQ can be a problem. Dirty channel has its problems. I prefer to use a pedal (currently a Marshall Gov').

Reliability : 10
Very reliable. I would use on gig without backup.

It has been dropped, had drinks spilled on it, spider colonies inside it, scrapped on the floor, tipped over, used as a vocal amp, had a bass put through it on 10 etc etc but it still works as new.

Wow - I can't believe my Super 60 has basically been my life for like 17 odd years and I have never really spoken about it - and now these reviews have totally opened it up for me. And erm, enough already about the features. I score down a little because the clean and presence I find useless!

Sound Quality : 10
Distortion channel. Gain on 3 (or 2.75 to 3.25 for subtle variations) and volume on anything above 2.25 and this is absolute heaven for me. If you can get above 5 on the volume then things go utterly astro - but this beast is so stupidly loud I have only got to 5 about three times in 17 years! Hardly 11 is it tap fans.

The mid control has tremendous power, the reverb is nice. However I find the presence an utter pain in the a. In fact the fizzy sparkle issue has stopped me playing open D chords for years!

And the rivera build comment makes total sense. The super 60 is unlike any other Fender I have played and guitarist friends take ages to get used to it.

Biggest issue and learning from these reviews is that my old trusty humbucker wilson sounds like the lord himself funking out - however my new tele si??ngle coil sounds very bloody average. If that is something in the amp architecture it makes total sense to me. My wilson is really high output and the super 60 loves. It frankly hates the tele and there is far too much biting fizziness even with the presence at 0 and the treble rolled off and the tele volume down on the neck pick up - I think its hummies only for the real deal here IMHO

Reliability : 7
Yeah don't break this. Menders hate it. And don't let the untrained switch it on and off wrong. Or break knobs. Or knock it off stage. But hey mine is still going strong. It weighs a tonne though but doesn't like abuse. But hey I used to carry it school!

Customer Support : 10
My old man an I actually got a pair of Super 60s on some dodgy factory dirdct back-of-a-lorry put-together-from-spares number or something so I guess I have to give some props to some factory dudes!

Overall Rating : 10
17 years or is it 18. My 74 wilson with massive high output humbuckers through the super 60 is me. I would get another if I smashed this one. My vibrochamp is much better clean and I am considering the twin 3 channel for the future. I put a VTwin, crybabies, george dennis wah switch, EH stone and microsynth, mayer fuzz etc. in front and never bother with the fx loop.

I love the distortion channel at 3 for controlled blues and the volume at 6 for unreal feedback heaven.

I hate the presence knob - it is my evil arch nemesis.

The on off system is still just too complicated for many of my guests!

2. I play R&B and the amp is just perfect, the clean channel is great
3. Channel switching yes ! Wish it had a seperat eq for the drive channel.
4. I play out about 10-12 times a month, plenty of power for a small to medium size club

made between 1988 - 1992.
Very versatile warm amp, although the volume difference between the clean and gain channels is quite marked. I have used this amp for home/studio practise and also limited gigging and its never let me down.

Sound Quality : 8
Never managed to play it loud enough to make the clean channel distort, my ears just couldnt cope.
I was happier using just the clean channel with a bluesbreaker and chorus pedals so I could keep better control of the volume, without switching to the gain channel on the amp.
I use it with a delux strat, a telecoustic and a first act electric all to great effect - it handles my electric/acoustic needs just fine.

no noticeable noise/hiss even when cranked up

Completely dependable, never had a problem with it.
Changed the valves once while I've owned it and had both inputs repaired due to the previous owner mis treating the thing. since then its been sweet as a nut.

Been playing guitars for around 5 years, got this as a swap for a Marshall MG50 and this was the better amp by a mile. Now have a fender Stage 160 which is a bit more versatile for the kind of stuff I like to play and the sounds i like, but I still love this amp.

In my opinion the super 60 could only be improved by minimising the difference between the clean and gain channel volumes

Wow, now i love my super 60.
2 channels, (no reverb footswitchable).
when i bought it, it had old tubes and sounded like crap.
once i fixed the tubes and soldered a wrecked capacitor, this is my baby.
quite loud enough

Sound Quality : 9
i prefer it over my mesa caliber 50 when it comes to playing clean stuff. the distorion is overwhelming somehow in a sense that it's not gonna work for all styles in my opinion (no 2nd eq-section)...its to BIG somwhoe, it tends to accentuate bass and treble and get washy in the mid section. still cool, though but not very flexible. it cranks somehow but its not deep or evil like modern stuff but rather crying. since i seldom play distorted, this ain't bad...
if you play crunchy, its real fun and bluesy sound!
not noisy.

i play funk/jazz/rnb/reggae/rock stuff
strat, tele mostly

of course you can't carry a backup, this amp already hurts your back...

This little amp has a big problem, i tried many things to take the best of the overdriven channel but i couldn't find where the problem is...im now thinking that its the cone thats up...im gonna change it to a vintage 30 or Jensen C12-K, bc this amp is very very loud...
i would like to hear another Super 60 but i cannot, its not very popular in here...
i tried it wit a 2x12 of vintage, sounded really better...i tried a 4x12 with g12t75 to hear the differences and it was less brighter...

the problem i'm talking with the overdrive is the great amount of high freq., it makes the amp sounds very ugly when u play a D chord is 1st position for example when having the gain more than 3 or 4...
its a nightmare...

i play of kind of styles but of course this amp is designed for blues, country, surf, classic rocknroll... if i'd have a eq just for the dirstorted sounds, i could use it for all kind of styles...

Reliability : 7
if i finally correct the overdriven channel (that for me is lika booster over the clean channel) i'll be very happy...

still lucky: no needed to...

Overall Rating : 7
ive been playing for 10 years, i have a jmp+marshall 8008+1960 4x12 too, and from the guitars to the amps i use a EB volume pedal, the duncan booster y the 535 crybabe wha...
i love the clean channel, but i hate the overdriven...its a love/hate story
im now gonna make a revalving /rebiasing and change the speaker and i hope i'll have the real sound of this baby, thats hiding inside some defective thing...Rivera made good job but its not easy to use it 100% and let u completely satisfied...

I'll write this review in spanish. For those who doesn't know about us: Spain and Latin America rocks too.

Mal. Muy Mal.

Reliability : 8
Todavia no tuve problemas.

This amp, along witht the Super 210 and a couple other variants in this vintage, have about the same complement of features. All designed in the late 80's and at the time, destined to be the last of the tube amps. "the twin" falls into this catagory as well, but in a completely different animal. All of my comments will/should pertain to all of these tube amps with the exception of the twin, which will be in another post. The sixety is basically a one channel amp, but when set up right is very powerfull. The reverb is standard Fender and one of the three 12ax7's is for this purpose. Whats left is your basic gain/distortion and master volume. Full complement of tone controls and presence/notch. Never use the notch, only the presence. One 12 inch fender speaker in the 60 and 2-20's in the 210. Weight is bearable. All were red knob, black grill, will some very late issues in and around 92-93 were black knob, silver grill.

Sound Quality : 9
Now for the good/bad. When either the 60 or 210 is set up right, they are super sounding amps. They can be fairly reliable (more below)and rugged. However, when they are bad...they are really bad. If you have a good one, put some eminence legends in it and you have one fine little club amp. Add a few peddles, and you can do most anything. Just don't overdrive the front end too hard...you'll be sorry. See below.

Reliability : 4
Next the trouble you may get into. These amps are an absolute bitch to work on. I'm also a tech and have worked on amps for a very long time. If you've heard horror stories on the twin,(which ain't as bad as you hear)then these are far far worse. First, make a wooden cover to shield the red knobs from all doors, other cabs, anything metal or anything hard. Put the cover on religiously or you'll be sorry. If you bang a knob (that sticks out way too far) its history. Find a replacement? Only from Fender. Expect weeks/month to get it and you'll also get dinged pretty good for it. Suggestion: Get a handfull or build the wooden cover. If you break one off, that circuit is done until repaired. These are all mounted on a pcb board and its a very difficult surgery to get it out and back. Just barely room. Next most of these have fixed bias. There is an optional bias circuit on the schematic, but I've never seen one with it installed. Suggest you install it or try to stick with the tubes it came with. One pot and resistor change is it.....well, except for getting the main pcb out. Fender designed these things such that all the components are on top of the board facing the bottom of the amp. So when the chassis is removed, you don't see the pcb components and location codes until removed. About 10 leads to unplug to get to anything. Then you have a board out, unplugged. How can you troubleshoot a board like this? No power or connections. No other way, unless you have xray vision to see through the pcb to the other side. So using a signal tracer is out or using a generator/scope is out. UNLESS, you have a test unit set up to place the board in for testing! I did just that...only way to do it right without spending an inordinant amount of time checking components. Bottom line, if it breaks, expect you pay big bucks for the repair.

Customer Support : 6
Forget it, unless you want to take it to a good Fender service center, then expect to pay. I guess the good news is that parts are available, but pots only through fender. PS, these are 12mm pots pcb mount.

Overall Rating : 7
When its good, its very good. When its broke, its not a pleasant experience. Do take care of the knobs. Have a tech (and be prepared to spend some $$) put in an adjustabe bias and check the entire circuit for distortion. Check all coupling caps. Replace all the electrolyics (its time...16 years) and do it while the board is out.
Then you should have another 10-15 years of service out of a great little club amp.

60Watt - 1x12" Fender Blue Spkr - 2 Channels(Hi and Low input) with same EQ, reverb(spring accutronics), presence - 2 x 12AX7 and 1x12AT7 pre - 2x6l6GC power - Pre out and Power amp in - 8ohm exit...Made in Usa in the late 80'. I thinks these are enough for this kind of amp.

Sound Quality : 9
Ok...Clean sound its really lovely and all guitar give the best, obviously my 1984 Japan Strat with texas special is the better test, maybe it can be a little fat but harmonics and natural brightness are sure.
The really good side is the EQ, it's sensitive(also reverb), not like some Marshall where Eq works like a ghost...Reverb its perfect for my taste, presence works fine.
Ok...Overdrive Channels needs to work on it...first you can raise the gain only to 4-5, this is the deadline, after this...shit!!With a strat is just an overdrive/crunch...With a TS9 maybe you will improve the overdrive to something more "comfortable".I use a Rat fo dist and with this amp this pedal is brilliant(sustain and harmonics).I use my 1980 Ibanez Artist 50 with humbckr and the things doesn't go better...but something really interesting happened when I tried an Ibanez RG550 with a DiMarzio ToneZone bridge position., Hey guys...This amp sound Rock!!! I mean really rock dist sound... not bad...

60 watts, 2 channels, class B, tubed, footswitch, and 1,000,000 lbs.
Sounds great, only has one eq though. Weighs a ton for its size.

Sound Quality : 10
I only use the clean channel. I get my tone from a Fulltone Fulldrive2. I get a slight hum if i get a little too distorted, but i rarely do, and the hum could come from anywhere in my chain. Plays really well. Very loud.

Reliability : 3
Yes...it does sound great...but mine is a piece.

bought it used a year ago...it came broken. Had it repaired, replaced all the tubes, fixed it up. A couple weeks ago it completely died. Is sounds like im listening to headphones from across the room. Thats about how much volume i get. Replaced all the tubes....nothing. Sent it to a fender tech...haven't got it back yet.

Died one other time on me, had to replace a preamp tube. Dont know why...the others didn't seem like they needed replacing.

Customer Support : No Opinion
Never contacted fender directly...but i have dealt with fender technicians. That dude was nice.

Overall Rating : 8
Been playing 5 years. I really like this amp....when it works. I get great tone. Suits my price range. If i was to buy another, i'd probably go with a class A amp a little more fancy than this...like a vox....but this definately does well for me. Wish it had a separate eq for both channels...and wish it weighed a lot less.

I own one of the rack mount versions and baught it brand new in 1989. It has two channels and an effects loop and all tube. I cuurently am running it though a fender 4/12 cab that I got used for under two hundred (I probably should break down and check to see what speekers it has in it because theys sound better that may Marshall 1960 4/12.
I wish the clean were a bit louder but miking it with a PA can resolve that issue. The gain channel is down right lowd it can hang with my JCM2000 DSL 100. It may actually be louder. At least below the 4 setting it is alot loader. And I never use it above 3.5.

Sound Quality : 10
The clean channel is fantastic, the usual for a Fender tube amp. The gane channel down right screems. I have a les paul standars and Shecter tele standard. Both guitars sound incredible with this amp. My Marshall went into the shop recently and has been causing me major head aches. I replaced the power tubes (Gruve Tube Gold Series 6L69) on the old Super sixty and have been just blown away with its tone. I am going to replace the preamp tubes soon. I think I now like it better than my Marshall. When the Marshall gets back from the shop I will probably sell it and get a second super sixty rack mount to make a stereo setup. These amps are by far the best bang for the buck ou there I am surprised they havent become a classic amp. Better for those of us who know better.

I play mostly orriginal rock music that I compose. However I do like to play some Zeplin and some Who from time to time. With th etele I can get really close to Tonshends Live sound from the Early eighties. And with the pual and the help of my Yard Box ( a tone bender coppy) I can naile all those Great Zep one and two tones. Also with a Start you can do a pretty decend David Gilmore, Cumfortably numb etc.

I have been really enjoying my rediscovery of this amp. I may also get a combo just to play inside my house with on winetre days when it is to cold to go to the Barn

Reliability : 10
I have had this amp since new and it has never let me down. Ot sat rarely uised for at least 9 years while I went through my Marshall kick. When the Marshall went nuclear, I fired it up and was really impressed.

These amps really are increadible and are a steal at under $400.00 used. Once I put those new power tubes in I realized that his amp kicks the Marshalls butt. I can't wait to get a second rack mount version so I can go stereo.

This thing is versatile. Spring-reverb, presence, a good distortion channel and an ok clean channel. Some minor problems: shared iq, the lack of footswitch (bought it used..). It has 60W all-tube power which is a lot. Not really suitable for playing home, but great with band.

Sound Quality : 8
I use a Fender Traditional Telecaster with DiMarzio Twang King -pickups. I play indie/alt -rock etc. The clean channel is maybe a bit too dry but very nice for jazzier sounds. I tend to use the dist. channel with gain on 3-4, volume on 2-3, treble on ~8, tone on ~9, bass on ~6. It gives me a sparkling nice fendery sound, definitely not sterile at all. But be careful with it, it has power to destroy the whole universe.. Actually a bit too much for my taste, i'd like to crank the amp to make it really sing, but it's hard. The distortion is maybe a bit too loud for me, but a Danelectro -pedal corrected that. Also an extension cabinet broadens the sound a bit.

Reliability : 9
I'm not so familiar with these things but it's been working ok for some time now and seems very robust.

Been playing for 9 years and this is my first all-tube amplifier. I am very satisfied with it. I love the distortion channel on mild settings with reverb and presence all the way up! For this price: i'd say the amp is perfect. Of course the red knobs lower it's value but i'm not really into the whole vintage fuss.

The amp (to the best of MY knowledge, which may be more limited than I think) was available from 1988 to 1992. I play with a pedal, I have my Clean maxed out (quiet cleans, surprisingly), my gain at about 1:30 position, volume for channel 2 (distort) at just between 6:30 and 7:30...this is A VERY touchy spot...one mm too low and your quiet...1 mm too high and your blasting. This thing is touchy as hell...I don't turn it up real loud, unless I'm alone nd far away. it's a monster.

My dials are bass: 12;00, treble, 11:00, mid 3:30. No reverb, presence at about 2 on the dial When oen of the tubes go out you iknow it - because all of the sudden you'll turn on your amp and it's going to sound like someone covered 1/2 of it with a soundproof barrier. I love the amp - got it used rarely from a local guitar god/genius for $200. They generally run about $400 it looks like...just after he gave me a deal on this one, he sold another one he had only with tears and scratches all over it for an extra $150 at the local music store...

Sound Quality : 8
I play through Peavey Wolfgangs (one trem, one stoptail) and a Gibson Paul...I play hard rock (VH, Ozzy, etc. etc.) and I LOVE this amp for it. The Wolfie's sound ESPECIALLY hot through this...thanks Eddie for the pickups...on the Wolfie I don't have tone...just 3 pickup setting and a volume...on the Paul, I try to make it sound like my stop-tail Wolfgang and leave it here...haha.

Reliability : No Opinion
Haven't had it long enough, be honest...I know my tube burned out quickly...but that's the first time one had been changed and I bought this 12 years after it was bought originally by the guy I got it from...not bad...and he plays these amps, A LOT.

You know all the features. I marked it down for having only one set of tone controls. I don't know if "massive power transformer" fits under features, but this thing has one. No worries there. Things like this add to the weight though.

Sound Quality : 8
I use a Strat with Texas Special pickups. My style is kind of psychadelic-blues-inspired-indie-rock, if that means anything to you. This amp is trebly by nature, especially on the distortion channel, so with the hotter pickups it takes a little tweaking to make sure it doesn't take your head off. I was originally kind of put off by all that treble in channel 2, but cranking up the mids seemed to solve the problem. Sort of counterintuitive, but whatever works. I usually play with treble at 12 o'clock, mids at 3 o'clock and bass at about 11:30. This gives a nice round distortion tone. The amp doesn't sound great for massively scooped playing, but who wants to hear that anyway? The clean channel has that great warm Fender tone. Real nice and round. The reverb isn't strong, but it's fine for my playing. If you want a Dick Dale tone the onboard reverb ain't gonna cut it though. The only real complaint I have with the amp is that channel 1 isn't very loud. I can sit in my bedroom with the volume maxed and play comfortably. You'd think 60 Fender tube watts would blow your head off at full bore, but not on this thing. Channel 2 is another story. It's massively loud. I think I'm going to try to find a clean boost pedal to drive channel 1 louder and maybe get a little grit in the tone. Even maxed out channel 1 is clean as a whistle (probably why it's so un-loud). All in all, the tone could be better, especially if the preamp would push a little more power through channel 1, but these things are unbelievable value.

Reliability : 6
I've had the amp for about a month, and first thing I did was bring it to a tech for a run-through. I spent almost as much on that service as I did for the amp itself. The tech said that these amps have a capacitor (on-off capacitor, push-pull capacitor? I don't know) that goes through heat cycles constantly and has to be replaced every now and then. Also, it's a fixed bias amp, so I assume that means it will go through power tubes a little faster than other amps. I figure this thing will need a good servicing every few years, depending on how much I actually play it.

Customer Support : No Opinion
No idea. I think Fender would run away from this thing if I tried to call them. On the other hand, finding a competent amp tech who knows Fenders is pretty easy.

Overall Rating : 8
If you can find them used you could probably buy these all day at $300. I got a great deal, so it was a no-brainer to buy this thing. Either way, it's major amp for the money. I don't know why these red knob Fenders have such a bad rep. I told an older gentleman I know about the amp and when I mentioned the red knobs he all but stuck his nose up at it. It's his loss. Great clean Fender tone and a distortion channel that is actually usable. No way could any current Fender amp under $1000 could stand up to this thing feature for feature and tone for tone. Buy one.

Everyone should know the features by now. I have an aftermarket footswitch for it. I don't use it though. I run my distortion through a boss mt-2 and a mxr wylde od. That gives me all the sound I want. All of my pedals have preamp eqs so the single eq on the amp is cool. The only feature I need is the beautiful loud arshh sound.

Sound Quality : 10
I'm using an Ibanez axs32 with a gibson 496r and a seymour duncan dimebucker. Sounds like heaven. I can use this amp to play any music I want, what a deal what a deal. I traded my 100 watts peavey XL head and hartke 4x12 stack for this little baby. Although, I must admit that I would prefer to carry the half stack. This amp is heavy! I do not know when this amp was made. It is perfect for the rock/blues that I play. It is a two channel amp. Mine is missing the foot switch and the fottswitch jack is broken. I would not mind having the switch. I do not use effects, so no opinion there. I currently use this amp at home and for getting together with friends to act like we still can rock. It actuall hat too much power for my current needs, but I like disturbing the neighbors.

Sound Quality : 10
I play rock & blues. I prefer a clean hot on the ragged edge of distortion sound. I use the distorted channel with the gain on 4ish to get the fat sound I like. The amp is extremely versitile. Metal to gospel. It is not the most harsh distortion I've ever heard. But, I am not a big distortion fan.

Overall I love this amp. I have only one complaint. It is the super 60 head with a 4x10 cab. It's just too darn big and heavy. I need a smaller cab for traveling. This is my second super 60. My first had to be sold to pay the bills years ago (112 combo). I would buy another. I wish this amp was made of helium.

Red-knob all-tube 60 watt fender Made in late 80s. Two channel, shared eq, low, mid, high, presence, reverb, gain, master. I hear it's designed by Paul Rivera of Rivera Amp's fame, before he started that company. I use this amp in a hard rock/southern/country/etc variety band. It's loud enough, although any 1x12 combo will need help after a while - get an extension cab to push more air. For larger gigs, I mic it up anyway. Delivers any sound I want, from country clean (warm, not twangy, but it also depends heavily on the guitar) to skynyrd to funk to acdc raw - just play with the gain (some people push the gain all the way up then wonder why it doesnt sound like skynyrd. duh. The clean breaks up really nice when pushed. I cant state than enough.. and also depends a LOT on playing dynamics - very responsive. The thing I really like about this amp is that I get the sounds I want, most of the volume I need, and I dont have to cart around my stack anymore -- in fact, I can sling my pedalboard and gig bag on my shoulders, have my guitar in one hand, and the amp in another hand, and I can still make it up stairs withough much trouble and only make ONE trip from the car. rate 9 because of shared eq only.

Sound Quality : 9
I use a les paul with motherbuckers, and nothing else. The amp isnt noisy at volume, but it also depends on the guitar (use a standard strat in the treble position and I am sure you will get noise). The amp makes any sound I want so far. But in the end, what it IS is a good all-tube amp - so why wouldnt it do what it's supposed to?

Reliability : 5
I havent had it long enough to know about reliability - but it seems very solid. I have heard from other people that it is reliable. it is a tube amp - so keep in mind that if tubes die, it isnt the amp's fault, it's the fact that tubes have a finite usable life span, especially when they are pushed often, like in a steady gig situation.

Customer Support : 5
never dealt with fender. I probably wouldnt either - the amp is far out of warranty, and being a standard fender tube amp, there are tons of qualified service centers around that would handle servicing faster than sending to fender, and maybe even better than fender.

Overall Rating : 10
been playing 25 years. but who cares? does this mean I am qualified to tell other people to buy or not buy this amp? not really. maybe for 25 years I really sucked, and maybe I am tone-deaf. how would you know? if it were lost or stolen maybe I would get this amp again. unless another great deal came up, which is what anyone would do -- if this amp were stolen, and someone asked me if I would be interested in buying a used matchless 50 watt combo in good working order for 50 bucks, dont you think I would be stupid to turn that down? For what this is, which is a good, solid 60 watt all tube amp with good tone, I rate it a 10. that is MY rating, and my rating means nothing to anyone here except that I think this is a great value. Of course, if I tell you it's great, and you go buy one, then there is one less out there for me to have, and ultimately, the price and demand for these out-of-production amps will go up, and I dont want that either, so dont buy it. Why would I want to kill off a good used market?

" LISTEN UP!"

I know you read the others but I actually know what is up with this amp and why it is so damn awsome.

This one is a mid to late 80's Super 60 they are not 90's by no means.

You already know the features so there is no p[oint in wasting time because typing sucks but I think some things need to be said since nobody else will do there homework.

The amazing sound comes from the fact that this amp is not really a fender at all. That's right, the amplifier was designed by PAUL RIVERA as in Rivera amplifiers. What most people don't realize is that all of the greats worked for someone else first and in this case it was fender. He made 5 different red knob series amps and the only real difference was in watts and speaker size. That is why this amp sounds better with hummies than single coil's.
I said that this not Fender amp at all because the only thing that makes this amp a fender is the damn plastic logo, nothing else. Paul Rivera designed these amplifier series and then started RIVERA amplifiers, So in basically you are playing a Rivera amp that cost 300 instead of 2000.00.
Will teach you more next time.

60 watts, all tube combo amp. sounds good. it is really heavy... that is my only complaint except for the fact that it only has one eq for its two channels.

Sound Quality : 10
sounds awesome, best amp i have ever played through. i play rock and blues and it sounds great. i like both channels, but i mainly use the overdrive channel and just set the drive on low for my clean sounds. the od channel is very versatile and you can dial in many kinds of distortion. the only complaint i have about the clean channel is it distorts at high volumes, but since i don't use it often it doesn't really affect me anyway.

Reliability : 10
i've had it for about two weeks, played one gig, but i have hauled it around a lot. built very sturdy, you'd have to really want to hurt this baby to break it.

This is an early 90's red knob all tube amp with a 12" speaker, reverb 3 band eq and two channels, switchable through panel or foot pedal. It is 60 watts. Has effects loop and speaker extension.

Sound Quality : 10
The tone is incredible. Unlike some fender amps, the red knob series has much more versatility on the gain. Clean to bluesy to hard rock are available on this amp. The sixty watts are plenty loud for small to medium venues. This amp is good for Blues clubs and Rock clubs. Might need a distortion pedal for some music styles but this amp will cut through for you. Clean channel was classic Fender. I use Strats, Ibanez strats, Kramers and Gibson LP and SG models and all sound great. I play mainly instrumental rock - Satriani, Vai, SRV and Eric Johnson.

Reliability : 10
I have had it for six years and I have had to replace the tubes three times with about 3 times a week playing for about 20 hours a week. Nothing else has gone wrong.

Customer Support : 9
Talked with customer support and they were very helpful in the history of red know series. Some of the designers have gone on to assist on the design of the Mesa Rectifier series. Tone and grind are synonomous with Mesa and the Fender red knob series. Great to talk with.

Overall Rating : 10
Awesome amp with great sound, tone and versatility. I would definitely buy another if it were stolen. The original price was $599 new back in the early 90's. I would pay $500 for this amp even if it were used.

Everyone knows the deal already on this one ...

Sound Quality : 9
I have used a number of guitars on this amp, having had it since 1990. Most recent guitar is an EVH Wolfgang Signature w/Floyd-like gear which probably had given me the best tone out of them all. Had a few others on there as well, a Fender Strat SRV, a Fender Strat (Japan), Ibanez Steve Vai Sig, and a Jackson of some sort. The thing I like is that it adds character to your guitars tone without completely transforming it ... some amps I have messed around with destroy the nuances of particular guitars.

I play a bit of everything, just being a hobbyist more than a muso. Most commonly I play EVH-style riffs and plenty of blues and funk and it works well for it. With enough volume (and it has plenty of it), it goes a nice EVH brown and yet is tight enough to punch out some funk easily.

Not very noisy which is a good thing - and pedals don't add any significant buzz.

Don't use the clean channel much, I prefer to use the overdrive channel and guitar volume to get my "clean" tone. If I had a complaint about it, it is that the clean channel doesn't have enough volume.

The distortion is very good - a fairly classic tone without being overly sharp. Play with the EQ and you can get some good variety in your distortion. If you intend on using the gain on 6 or higher and the volume on 3 or higher, I suggest you don't sit anything on the top, make sure the feet are really steady and stand back - it's damn loud!

Happy with the tone, but I was raised on valves so it's no surprise.

Reliability : 9
Had it for 14 years. I have had a few minor glitches ... the second input jack fell in one day when a mate was screwing around with. Anyone who's played with one of these will know that the upsidedown electronics are a nightmare to get to. Replaced the tubes recently, fortunate to have a father in high end audio who gets me some great tubes. The original tubes lasted for 9 years ... can't complain too much there - although it wasn't being used for gigs and was a little brown at the end.

Broke down once ... but that was the tubes.

Customer Support : No Opinion
Never dealt with them.

Overall Rating : 9
I use a variety of effects ... but mostly stick to Digital Delay, Chorus and Wah nowadays ... and the occasional use of a Phase 90. I've been playing for 17 years now, but only with wired stuff since 1990. Remember finding an interesting trick a while back when I owned a Marshall Shredmaster ... if you don't like the overdrive just stick one of these babies into the effects loop and you have instant shred ... worked better than doing it DI.

Love it's tone ... hate the weight of the damn thing. It is seriously hernia inducing if you aren't careful. Struggle with it and watch roadie wannabe's or your mates laugh. Get them to lift it and watch them go pale and say something that starts with F and rhymes with Duck.

If it got pinched I'd probably use it as an excuse to buy a 5150Mk2 Head and Cabinet, but if I could find one in good condition for the right price I'd get it.

This is probably one of the better combo's I have messed around with ... if not the best. I have recommended it to a few budding kids looking for something other than Marshall grunt (and there ain't many kids who actually understand tone) and they have basically changed their style because of the tone you can get ... hell, they even discovered distortion WITHOUT a pedal!

Find one in good nick and buy it. Even if you get sick of it after a while, you can sell it again. It is worth a go, trust me.

I'd echo what others have said...I'd really like separate EQ sections for individual channels, but only because the Super 60's overdrive channel flavors the sound a bit. Maybe it's just a Fender thing.

Sound Quality : 7
I'm using a frankensteined Telecaster with a neck P90 and a bridge Quarter Pounder and I've been fairly impressed with the sound. Once you adjust for the brightness of the Tele, the Super 60 gives a nice smooth tone...in fact, almost too smooth. I'd like much more volume on the clean side--I've never been able to get the clean channel to break up, even dimed. The clean is a bit on the sterile side, and the gain channel doesn't really open up until you've hammered it for a while.

Reliability : 8
It just died on me! Fizzing pop, no sound. It's getting dropped off in the morning to be checked out. It seems fairly well built, although when I first received it (used off of Ebay) the jacks were dodgy and the reverb kept cutting in and out.

I've been playing for 15 years and this is only my second tube amp. If I had it to do over again, I'd get another Classic 30 because I think it's a bit more versatile. I'd wanted a Super 60 for years because I played on in a store once and loved it--back when I first got serious about guitar.

I bought this amp in the late 80's/early 90's used. It was probably a mid to late 80's model. It has 2 channels, foot switch, etc (see other reviews). I use this as a practice / jamming amp. It has 2 inputs - all the basics.

Sound Quality : 8
This amp has a nice melodic - but not very loud - clean channel. It has a reasonably loud and raspy distorted channel. It is a raspy, but not a harsh distortion, I guess that is what separates tubes from solid state.

Reliability : 6
Here is my main problem with the amp. After playing for an hour or two, the tone disintigrates into a muddy, bassy sounding tone. I tried replacing the tubes several times, I have tried Groove tubes, Fender tubes, to no avail. I added fan cooling - no improvement. I read on the internet that this may be a symptom of needing new capaciitors, but I'm reluctant to pay for that without being sure it will work. (This problem may be why the amp was sold in the first place.) One other small problem is that the tubes are seated upside down in the top of the chassis, and I've occasionally had them shake loose in transport, so if the amp has travelled I make sure the tubes are seated tight before I plug it in. Other than that the amp is solid and hasn't failed in the 12 or so years I've had it.

Never tried - no opinion.

Already described properly by other reviewers. Same EQs for both channels, but that's not a problem for me, since I only use the overdrive channel. This amp is small but it's so HEAVY it's hard to believe. It's extremely powerful...My band (punk r'n'r stuff) is very loud and I never needed to crank the volume of the amp to the max!

Sound Quality : 10
I mainly use Gibson guitar w/ P90s and the amp just sounds GREAT.
Also use a Telecaster and Gibsons with humbuckers and it's always a great sound.
The overdrive channel sounds very different from any other Fender amp.
It has tons of bass, and it's very full. Just beautiful sound.
Even if you use a lot of overdrive, the sound is still very clear and with plenty of attack. Not muddy at all.
Great amp for rock'n'roll, but it's also fantastic for blues, hard rock, punk.
The clean channel is okay, but nothing special compared to the overdrive channel. The reverb is okay too.

Been playin for over 12 years. Always been into Marshall amps. I have always liked Fender clean sound, but never managed to get a decent distorted sound with a Gibson through a Fender amp. Until I tried the Super60. This amp is really different from any other Fender. I also own a Marshall Plexi 50w head and a Marshall Silver Jubillee 50w head, and a few other amps. I like 'em a lot, but the Super60 sounds even better!!
It's really a fantastic amp. It's getting a bit hard to find in Europe, but it's not expensive at all.
If it were stolen or lost, I would absolutely try to buy another one.

Already described comprehensively by other reviewers. My favorite feature is the effects loop. It's very quiet and transparent--even with a lot of digital rack stuff in the loop.

Sound Quality : 8
I've used this amp on a lot of club gigs w/ styles ranging from classic and hard-edged rock to jazz and fusion. The clean channel sounds somewhat period-specific, i.e., almost too dead-clean and compressed at times, but it's nice for those styles that call for a dead-clean sound. The distortion channel is more versatile. When I first bought the amp I was pairing it with an EMG-SA-loaded Strat in a classic/hard rock band that played stuff like Nugent, Ozzy, Halen, etc., and the amp performed more-than-adequately at gain settings of 7 or 8. Back off on the gain (4-6) and the amp produces more vintage-sounding distortion and nice "borderline" clipping when the guitar's volume is rolled back.

Reliability : 2
This amp has been one of the least reliable amps I've ever owned. I've spent WAY more money on repairs than the original cost of the amp. I've had to replace resistors, pots, and ALL the caps--despite regular maintenance. The amp tanked on me on a Motown/Soul/Funk/R&B gig once when a resistor failed. Fortunately, only a partial loss of power occurred, so I was able to make it through the night. NEVER gig with this thing without a backup!

I've been playing for 32 years. I have many different sized rigs for different sized jobs. My setup for larger venues is a rack/component system which consists of a Marshall JMP-1 pre-amp, Lexicon MPX-1, Chandler Stereo Digital Echo, and a Soldano Super Lead Slave 105 all-tube power amp. As for the Super 60, I like its portability and relative versatility. I dislike the cheesy, printed circuit board construction and materials. If the amp were stolen or lost I doubt that I would look for another one.

This is a red-knob series fender. You know the features from other reviews. I don't think features are really that big of a deal in an amp (all that matters is tone) so i'm not going to give a rating for this category.

Sound Quality : 8
I'm using a godin with rio grande pickups. my style is blues, rock, and a little jazz. I like this amp. It has great clean tone on the clean channel (although that is balanced by the fact that the clean channel has no volume and is basically unusable in a live situation). The amp isn't extremely noisy but isn't really quiet either. The clean channel doesn't really distort at higher volumes, which makes me think that there might be a circuit flaw having to do with the clean channel and the power tubes that might also contribute to the lack of volume. The overdrive channel sounds very good at low volumes. As you turn up on the dirty channel, the treble becomes more pronounced. This leads to the dirty channel not having extreme versatility, but you can get low to medium gain blues sounds (think bb or albert king). So to sum up: great clean that is taken away from by lack of volume and a decent overdrive for bluesy, mid-rangey sounds that isn't very versatile and can sound like a trebley pile if you don't tweak it right. It has groove tubes in it now (most likely sovteks). I am going to put in some svetlana 6L6GCs, rumored to be very good tubes. hopefully that will improve the overdrive channel.

Reliability : 7
It's never broken down on me, but I haven't pushed it hard that often and the red knob series is notorious for its reliability. And i think there really is a flaw in the circuit that accounts for the lack of volume on the clean channel.

Customer Support : No Opinion
Never dealt with them, but it would help if i could find a manual or official information online.

Overall Rating : 8
i've been playing a while now. this is my only amp right now. if it were lost somehow, I would explore something different, but I still think this amp was worth it, especially for the low price tag (definitely beats most of the other amps anywhere near this price range. I love the clean tone and the bluesy tone on the overdrive channel, but don't like the lack of volume on that channel and the lack of versatility on the overdrive channel. My rating here is the same as in the sound category (no coincidence). An 8 equals a B on my scale.

I did a review of this amp on 03/28/2001, so I won't recount al of the features.

I had sold my other Super 60 when I picked up an '83 Princeton Reverb II amp. I didn't keep the PRII long as it just sounded too mid-rangey for my tastes after awhile. Probably great for gigging with a band, but not for practicing on my own.

I regretted selling my Super 60 and just recently bought another one that is in EXC condition inside and out. Like my old Super 60, my latest one is an '88-'89 vintage.

Unlike the last time I bought a Super 60, I have decided to keep the original speaker. It's an excellent speaker and has a massive magnet like you'd find on a Jensen ceramic. It's not a small magnet like Fender uses nowadays on the Ultimate Chorus amp.

What I did not notice with my first Super 60, is that the tube chart on my latest one says "Super 60 Bandmaster". I have never seen these amps referred to as anything but "Super 60"; never with the word "Bandmaster", but that's what my amp says on the tube chart.

This amp sports 2-6L6 power tubes (classic FEnder tube complement), 2x12AX7 preamp tubes, and 1x12AT7 phase inverter tube, pushing the Fedner-branded 12" speaker. The reverb is real spring reverb, but the reverb circuit is solid state.

The power transformer and the speaker/output tranny are massive - way bigger than anything you see on new Fenders. They contribute greatly to the amp's 58lb weight. Inside of the chassis is a tiny transformer-like thing which I assume is the choke: "a coil used to remove ripples or some types of AC from a circuit", for less hum, I suppose.

The EQ is shared between the 2 channels - clean and overdrive. Each channel has it's own volume and the channel switching is footswitchable via the single button "Channel Select" included with the amp.

The shared EQ bothers some folks, but not me. It's the same as Fender's Princeton Chorus and PC-DSP amps. Plus, I put a Digitech RP-3 mutli-FX pedal on the front-end of my Super 60 Bandmaster anyways.

This amp can get really loud - which is one reason I love it. 60 watts RMS (or so based on 2-6L6's) is plenty of power and all the mroe when it's tube power.

The outputs on the back include a mono effects loop, line out for recording or use with a PA (works great for recording!), and an 8ohm extension speaker cab output.

OK, OK. I'll give it a "9" since the EQ is shared, though I really wanted to give it a "10" :)

Sound Quality : 10
This amp does not do the sparkly Fender thing - thank God! I am so sick of that sound and everyone saying that this Fender or that one has the "typical Fender clean - bright and sparkly".

This amp's got muscle for low end through high end. On the clean/rhythm channel, I get nice, warm jazz tones with my sometimes exceedingly bright Gibson archtop.

The clean channel has less volume than the lead channel. Well, duh! Of course, the lead channel will blast your ears off your head!

Some folks complain that the rhythm/clean channel is not loud enough to gig with. I dunno, maybe they're right. Just LO it to your PA and dont' worry about it.

The reverb is solid stat, but real spring reverb. It is not the classic Fender reverb - boingy and bright. It is smoother, but no better or worse than any other Fender SS reverb.

I like the clean channel for jazz. Heck, I liek the OD channel for jazz!

I typically run my RP-3 through the clean channel and let the pedal add all the effects. Another thing that I really love about this amp is that it is pedal-friendly. No hissing! Pedals sound great thorugh it and it's got all the volume you need, believe me!

The OD channel has a GAIN knob for preamp gain. If you want power tube gain, you have to crank the amp to very loud volume. Even then, you won't get overly fuzz tone, but more a clean tube overdrive ala a non-master Fender Super Reverb, which shares the same power tube complement as the Super 60 Bandmaster. I like that sound as it sounds great for cleaner blues with an edge.

Still, I use my pedal to get the chorus, delay, OD, etc.

Reliability : No Opinion
This is my second one. Both are built liek tanks. I took my recent one apart and cleaned the amp inside and out, lube'ing the pots and such, while vacuuming everywhere. I am as impressed with this one as I was with my original one for build quality. Just keep a spare set of tubes on-hand.

I've been playing about 8 years and own a Fender Acoustasonic JR amp as well as a BF cHamp amp, a Gibson ES-135 archtop, an Epi jazz archtop, and a Fender GA-45SCE flattop, and a couple of pedals.

I've owned dozens of amps from a Rivera Sedona down to an Alamo Capri and many in-betweeners, including a 70 watt Fender SR, PR-II, PC, PC-DSP, UC, UC-DSP, APro, AJR, GA5T, Hohner tubie, and more.

I purposely went looking for another Super 60 Bandmaster amp when I realized that I needed an amp capable of gigging in a band. Im' glad I got the one I did - perfect shape.

If I could change one thing about the amp, I'd knock 20 lbs off it, but hey, it's built liek a tank, so why shouldn't it weigh as much as one :)

This is a late 1980s/early 1990s Fender tube combo. It has two channels with a shared EQ. The shared EQ is kind of a pain in the ass, if you are switching between channels often. The reverb on this amp is decent, but not great. This amp puts out a very loud 60 watts, and it tips the scales at 60 pounds, which is massive for one 12 inch speaker.

Sound Quality : 10
I use a Squier Standard Strat (s/s/h) which is surprisingly decent for such a cheap guitar. Played through the Super 60, the guitar sounds thick and full. Sometimes I use a Crybaby Wah (think Hendrix or Cream sounds). The clean channel on this amp sounds great, everything that you would expect from a Fender. The distortion channel is one of the best I have ever heard, and certainly the best built-in on a Fender. It absolutely beats the shit out of the cheesy distortion on the HRD series amps.

This is a red knob combo, not sure of the year. It has two channels with footswitch jack. Volume for the clean channel, gain and volume for the overdrive channel, shared EQ, reverb, and presence. 2 inputs and a standby switch. I wish it had two EQs and maybe the bright switch from its close cousin Super 112. I purchased it with new Groove tubes so I can't comment on the orginals. Because of the shared EQ i give it an nine. Versatile enough for 95% of my stuff, the rest I use pedals for. I do not gig (yet) but use it for band practice and home practice (though my drummer's moving so...)

Sound Quality : 10
I am using a Godin SD (h/s/s) with it. I play classic and blues rock, as well as a little bit of jazz and a little folk-alt rock (I have recently made it a project to work up hopefully good-sounding electric, violin and sax free arrangements of Dave Matthews Band songs). This is my first tube amp, and I love it. It has Fender clean (not as sparkly, a more round tubey feel) and IMHO a great overdrive channel. i haven't had the chance yet to push it into full power tube saturation. The clean channel, with the right tweaking, helps give my Godin a much more Strat-like sound that I didn't think I could quite get, with that nice round hollow sound from two single coils together, and bright with my humbucker and the right EQ. The lead channel sounds kinda lifeless with no gain (a lead channel isn't meant to be used with no gain!) but push it to around 2 or 3 on the gain knob and you've got nice tone that bubbles over a bit (think Buddy Guy) if you hit the strings a bit harder. Around 4 and you've got some nice blues overdrive. push it to 6 and you've got creamy thick overdrive (think Cream, Led Zeppelin, or Hendrix without the Fuzz Face). Push it beyond that and you're pushing into, dare i say it, the lower fringes of metal with a humbucker. Humbuckers give great rock-out tones while single coils give a nice Strat-ish (again, with tweaking) if sometimes noisy (especially with a computer monitor on)sound. The distortion is not high-gain metal brutal but more gain than your average Fender, Boo-Boo. despite the shared EQ you can dial in decent SRV, Santana, or other tones. Great tube tone. I sometimes throw in a chorus, wah, or Boss OD-2 (the pedal's distortion is remarkably like the amp's, but with a little more gain available) but usually plug straight in. Reverb is good, nice and Fendery, and Presence is good and helps give it a wider palette of tones. No amp is perfect, but what the hey I'll give it a ten for my needs.

Reliability : No Opinion
As with all equipment (especially tubes) there is always a risk, but I could depend on it and would probably gig without a backup. I haven't had it for very long but it hasn't broken down. I haven't owned it long enough or pushed it hard enough to give a rating, but it's built like a tank (Super 60 could be describing the weight in pounds instead of the wattage.)

Never dealt with em.

I have been playing not quite a year now. I also own a cheap Aria accoustic, assorted pedals, and still have my old peavey practice amp (looking to sell it). If it were stolen or lost, I would look for another one, but who knows. I love the tone, but wish there were two EQs and switcheable reverb (not that I'd really switch it that often). Blues and rock tone monster, great for pumping out my favorite sounds with good tube tone at bedroom to practice to what I estimate to be good gig levels. I think with the SD and this amp I have a great combination that I got for a little more than this amp would sell new. I would definitely reccomend it to any blues or rock player looking for classic tone.

Late 80's, black tolex, bought used and is a super amp for portability, ruggedness, and screaming blues. Like other owners, the eq being one for two channels is a bummer, the reverb is fine, and the ability to tweak a Santana sound or a SRV is in this amp. Mostly use the amp in blues clubs which are pretty bright, but the amp carries the low end fine. I've been through super reverbs, devilles, peavy classic 30's, 50's, etc. For portability, ruggedness, and clean sound or kick end distortion this is the best of all I've tried. I've played a friends for about 7 years prior to finally buying one myself. The weight is on the border line, but nothing like a twin.

Sound Quality : 8
Les Paul, HR Fusion, Parker Fly, and Gibson 180 all for blues, rock folk, or country. It has the classic Fender boom. Mine is a little noisy at first but then quiets down. I mostly play blues and this amp does fine, it carries slide with depth and holds sustain fine. Clean channel is clean but quite, can't comment on the distortion, my slide and LP Artist make enough distortion which it carries.

Reliability : 9
Like I referred to before, played a friends for 7 years or so and have thrown it into the trunk too many times for it not to crash. But they (3) never have.

Been playing a long time, own too much gear and have paired down to about 5 amps and 15 guitars. If this amp vanished I would get another one. Like the size, sound, weight. Dislike the reverb and no eq on both channels and wish it had a line out for recording. I have been looking for an amplifier that I could carry up and down stairs, travel the road without worring about a failure. If there was another tube amp with this power and sound that weighed less I'd go for a test drive, but none have the Fender sound this one does. I think it is under rated unless you are a person who plays distortion and not music.

This is a follow-up to my previous review. I musta been sick or something... the amp is GREAT!, don't get me wrong, but the reverb is solid state, not tube! Now, I know why I preferred the solid state reverb on my Polytone amp. Pretty chincey, though, to have al those tubes and then resort to using SS reverb...

I bought my Super 60 in 1991. It was a used model, but only three months old. Apparently the previous owner needed more volume (which is BTW the reason I am shopping for a larger Fender amp right now). It is equipped with vintage tubes and the standard speaker has been replaced by a Celestion. In comparison to the original speaker, it produces a warmer, more jazzy sound that fits the amp's tube sound very well.
A (minor) downside is the fact that both channels share the one set of tone controls, albeit that they are very sensitive and make it possible for the amp to produce a very wide range of different sounds.

Sound Quality : 10
I play an american standard Strat (three single coils) I bought a little earlier, in 1990. When I was looking for an amp to go with it, I soon discovered (and fell for) the Fender tube sound. The Super 60 makes the strat sound quite 'organic', with all the full, warm sound of the wood, but also the famous Fender-like metallic sparkle in the trebles. It always gives me the comforting feeling this is how a Strat was made to sound (considering the amp's price range ofcourse).
The distortion on the second channel is a real killer. It delivers a great chrunch at lowers gains, and a beautiful warm harmonic sound at higher settings. Because of the fullness of the sound, it is less appropriate for playing metal riffs though as it tends to get a little muddy at maximum gain. This might not be the case when using the original, brighter speaker though.

Reliability : 10
Short anecdote: when bringing the amp back home from a gig once, it fell to the ground from the back of my bike, where it was standing on top of a big speaker cabinet about 1.5 meters high. It made quite a smack and the reverb sounded like it exploded, but... the amp still works perfectly! Great job, I really love equipment that is built to last for ever.

Customer Support : 9
The (small) shop I bought the amp had a very good service. They allowed me to test the amp with both the original speaker as the custom one, replacing one for the other as I waited.
After I bought it, I only had to have it repaired once, because the second input had broken of due to wear and tear. Did cost me about $70 though, mainly because of the labour involved.

Overall Rating : 9
The only major problem with this amp is the limited volume of the clean channel, which is the reason I am currently planning on buying a second, larger Fender amp. Mind you, I have absolutely no complaints about the sound; it's just that I when I use the clean channel, the guitar sound tends to get lost inbetween the drums and the bass. This is ofcourse the main tradeoff for keeping the sound so clean - there's nothing like cubic inches.

Mine is a '88-'89 vintage.

Price: (varies)
* about $300 used
* about $500 when new

Features:
* 60 watts RMS output
* Tubes:
2-6L6 power tubes
2-12AX7 preamp tubes
1-12AT7 reverb tube
* Tube reverb
* SS rectifier
* 12" heavy duty speaker (I saved it out and put in a Jensen reissue)
* mono effects loop
* line out
* external speaker out
* dual inputs
* dual channel (clean/overdrive)
* single set of EQ controls shared between 2 channels
* reverb intensity control
* small cabinet size equivalent to a SF Princeton Reverb amp
* very strong tube connectors (tubes do not move around at all - you can't even jiggle them)
* power tube retainers
* metal jacks
* stand-by switch to save on tubes
* massive power and output transformers (undoubtedly contribute to excessive weight, but they look like military issue!)

Downside:
* PCB mounted upside down in chassis (some techs complain that this makes the amp a little harder to service because you have to take the nuts off the input/output jacks and the nuts have a little rubber retainer on them to keep them from coming loose. Doesn't sem to be an impediment to me, you simply slice the little rubber retainer. No big deal.
* Fixed bias - must be re-biased with each new set of matched power tubes (or simply use similar matched tubes that are marked)
* weight equivalent to a Fender Hot Rod Deluxe (you wouldn't believe it to see how small it is!)
* undersized reverb tank
* shared EQ controls between clean and OD channels, meaning that you may have to reset the EQ before switching channels (as compared to dual channel amps that have separate EQ controls for each channel)

I'd give it a 10 if it had dual sets of EQ for the clean and overdrive channels.

Sound Quality : 10
Tone:
* For jazz, the amp is excellent with extremely responsive 4 band EQ controls. You can get bright, dark and anything in-between. Lots of nice jazz "whoosh" when you slide down the neck. Very clean amp, but not squeaky, sterile tyupe of clean - think "tube clean". While not as convenient as having the dark/med/bright switch that Polys have in that you have to make small EQ changes on the Super 60, the jazz tone is still in there (all controls flat - not off - with the bass at 1-2pm).
* For blues - excellent also! You can do the clean blues thing very nicely with just a touch of gain! Really excellent!
* For R&R - great! Push up the gain for all sorts of o/d tones. Cut the mids for that classic hollowed out o/d tone; push the treble for an edgier o/d tone.

This thing convinced me that I don't need no stink' o/d pedal of any sort!

Reverb:
* For jazz, I like the Poly's SS 'verb better. For rock and blues, the Super 60's 'verb is better. The 'verb on the Super 60 is much better than the 'verb I tried out on a Fender DR RI last week. On the DR, doing a muted rhythm thing made the reverb sound boingy; not so on the Super 60. The Super 60's reverb does not get as deep as the DR RI, though, probably due to the small tank used on the Super 60, but at least the Super 60 isn't boingy. I swapped out the Made In India 12AT7 for a US NOS 12AT7, but it didn't make much of a change - less microphonic, though.

Volume:
* Now whattya think? 60 tube watts! Loud doesn't begin to describe it. The really nice thing is that you can crank up to 3-4 easily without making the amp go to 100% which is UNLIKE most newer Fender amps(a "feature" of the newer amps I detest)! Believe me folks, volume is not a problem. Your archtop will howl at the moon like a pack of wolves long before you tax this amps' volume capacity.

I am so impressed with the utter variety of tone this amp produces - dark/warm jazz, trebly clean country, BB King blues, Molly Hatchet southern R&R, SRV blues - it's all in there. Truly, this is the most versatile small tube amp single 12 combo I have ever used!

Reliability : 10
This thing is built like a tank! A power tranny and output tranny - each of which is way larger than my fist! I expect it to last another 12 trouble-free years easily!

Customer Support : 10
Fender does not make this amp anymore, but they do have manuals and schematics on file and are very hlepful in getting me the docs.

Overall Rating : 10
Honestly, if I had this amp prior to the other amps I've purchased, I might have never bought those other amps.

For around $300, I don't think you can buy a better tube amp and I've had my share of $300-$500 tubies. The Super 60 absolutely kills the Fender HRD in tone, size, reverb, and components. So, if you like the HRD, you'll absolutely love the Super 60 (assuming you get one in as nice of shape as mine, that is). Even if you hate the HRD (which I grew to with mine), you'll love the Super 60. If you like the Fender Blues Junior, you'll love the Super 60 and so on...

This amp is truly a sleeper. It was made in a head style, 1-12 combo (mine) and was also called the Super 112 at one time.

Again, when buying any used tube amp, make sure you know what you are getting. 3/4 of the tube amps I've gotten over the last few years have needed a new speaker, new tubes, cap job, or all of the above. Similar things for SS amps, too.

My example is pristine inside and out and was the previous owner's personal favorite of the 2 he had. He sold the first one, but held on to this one; I know because I tried buying the first one but missed out by a few bucks on a private 'net sale. He contacted me later to see if I was stilll interested in buying the second one. I jumped on it and I'm glad I did!

One overlooked feature in other reviews below is that this amp has a
switching transformer, when you plug in an extension cab, I use a Fender 112 closed enclosure, the amp switches down to 4 ohm output impedance and for what it's worth, I think the sound improves greatly.
I use the effect loop for a Nanoverb, I'm a fan of digital reverb.
Almost never use the high gain channel, as the EQ changes too much for my tastes. 60 watts with a good, no excellent, classic Fender vibe. I play big band music with various acoustic and electric archtops and this fills the bill.

Sound Quality : 7
Good clean sound with that classic tube compression, and doesn't start to break up into brown sounds until above 5. Meets my needs, when I need distortion I'll use my H. & K. Cream Machine, or just go for the throat and gig with my Marshall Plexi.

Reliability : 8
Amp was checked by a tech and several cold solder joints were repaired. Also retubed with Mesa 6L6's and GE 12AX-7's. Was gigging on bass through this amp 2 weeks ago and it vibrated off a table, smashing both input jacks. Fell about 30 inches, I picked up replacement input jacks, and had a little trouble manouvering the front circuit board to a position to solder in the replacements. I didn't want to have to pull the main circuit board. Crossed my fingers as I powered it up after repair, but the thing worked just fine. I never broke any knobs, just kinda compressed the particle board upper corners of the amp. I'm impressed!! The particle board is also why this little puppy tips the scales at 58 lbs.

Fender will help you, I don't recall having used them for anything other than Internet info

Got a vintage Plexi, '79 Roland JC-120, Fender Super 60, Yamaha DG-100
and a Dano Nifty Fifty for practice. All of these have their own individual vibe, and there is NO one be all, end all amplifier!! I liked the affordability of the Fender as I bought it used, and have used it quite a bit, the tube thing and all. It's been dependable, portable (compared to 2X12 combos), and has met my expectations for a Fender product.

I, for the most part, as running a Mexican-made Strat (w/Seymour Duncan Hot Rails in all three positions) through a variety of effects - I own a boatload of Boss stomp boxes and have both a Bud Wah & Dunlop 535Q Crybaby - and regardless of what I am using, this bad-boy SCREAMS for me. Especially w/the Metal Zone. WOW! PHAT CRUNCH. I must admit, the clean sound was a little disappointing, which sucks because that's why I bought it! BUT, I have only had the amp for two days and will be dropping it off to the local tech this week for inspection and upgrades - if needed. I have full confidence that after a "little" tweaking it'll sing for me, just like I originally expected!

I bought my Super 60 new in 92'. Has a 12" Fender special design speaker, 2-channels (not a master volume amp), and weighs in at 58 lbs!

Sound Quality : 10
I play country, jazz, classic rock, and blues--I use my Super 60 with a 93' Strat, Epison (Epiphone w/Gibson 57 Classic pickups), and a Steinberger. Simply two words--great tone! I have had this amp for over 8 years now--and have done gigs with it in all types of environments--from malls to the Nebraska State Fair. The clean headroom is terrific--but can be awesome if you get it tweaked by a GOOD tube amp tech--overdrive has always been brutal and could only be improved my an Ibanez Tube Screamer--or something similar. The ultimate in clean tube amp tone!

Reliability : 9
For the first 6 years--no problems. Then a couple years ago a resistor burned out--had that taken care of then this year it happened again. I guess this is a $35.00 yearly maint cost I should get used to! I never had the amp let me down during a gig--but I will always have a backup handy--can u say Tech 21 Trademark 60? By the way--you should have this amp checked out at least every 2-years--I have re-tubed twice in 8-years but that could be a bit long...

Customer Support : 9
I only use a local amp tech so I don't know how good Fender service really is--so I can't really comment about that. But I will rate this category a nine based on the local service I have received.

Overall Rating : 10
I have been playing for about 18 yrs--country, rock, jazz, blues, etc... I have a true love/hate relationship with my Super 60. I love the tone--but can never gig without a backup handy. It is a heavy amp to carry around but the tone is worth it's weight(!) when you get on stage. If you really care about the sound coming out of the amp then you know tubes are the shit--and I would highly recommend the Super 60 to anyone. If it were stolen I would be very upset and would immediately seek a replacement.

Small, versatile, but heavy. 2 input channels, w or w/o effects, effects pedal/loop. 12" Fender speaker. Wish it had chorus, but satisfied with what it has.

I use a '75 Les Paul. Has a great sound and matches up with the Super 60 fine. Some hum to amp, but acceptable. This amp gets a nice clean or classic crunch sound, depending on your preference - both are satisfactory. This little beast is no doubt loud!

The amp has a clean and overdrive channel with built in foot switch. It also has reverb. There are 60 watts of tube power which make it very versatile for blues, ballad, and heavy metal. It is heavy, but not bulky and is easy to drag around compared to my other amps.

Sound Quality : 10
I play with a Paul Reed Smith, American Strat, or Les Paul Black beauty. I have a Mesa Boogie tremoverb and a 1969 Fender Super Reverb. The super 60 is by far my favorite amp of the three. It sounds great clean and with overdrive, plus it is much easier to carry around. I primarily use a vintage tube screamer for overdrive, boss sustain compression pedal, and a Danelectro chorus. I use the amp for Contemporary Christian Music and blues/rock and roll. It is great for all of these. I prefer to mike the amp and control all of the volumes through the PA. This amp will make some noise with the volume up however.

Reliability : 10
I have never had a problem with it. I bought it used and carry it around a lot.

If I only had one amp this would be it. I can not believe that it was only made for 4 years. It has a great tube sound and is not much to carry around. I am sure that in its era other louder amps were more popular, but today most amps are miked and run through the PA. Fender should definetly bring this one back. It may not be a vintage amp, but it is a great amp. I have a Mesaboogie tremoverb and a 1969 Super reverb, but this amp is without a doubt my favorite.

This is an all-valve 60w.amp.I don't know when mine was made, I bought it 2nd hand in 1994 for about #280.I haven't met anyone else who has one of these amps. I play in 2 bands and have had no problems getting a decent sound.I have used the effects send and return feature, mainly for chorus, but have recently used a 12 string through the clean channel, which sounds fantastic.I run a Marshall 1936 stereo cab from the back, and this feature is a big plus if you're thinking of buying an amp like this.As for the power of the thing,I've yet to turn it up past 4 on gain channel, even in larger clubs. The clean side is warm and mine begins to lose its cleanness at about 6--it's not noted for it's massive headroom in the clean channel.

Sound Quality : 9
With my Strat, with the guitar vol. on full and the gain on 7, it gives a great blues sound.I also have a Washburn which means the gain has to be backed off a bit more.Of course, I have been known to have everything turned up to 11. I have had many compliments about my sound, which almost makes up for the lack of compliments about my playing. This amp has a truly searing gain sound and it is loud.
