I use this amp as my primary bass rig. I use it withe JBL-D140. IT is an excelent match. I use it for all styles. I play primarily mucical theater. One run it might need to be have a rich upright sound (Ain't MisBehaven), to stock musical (Me and My Girl), to a solid rock sound (Pump Boys and Dinetts). It is the best sounding map I have found in 40 years of playing. It has a rich sound, creating great tones with my bass (a Fender Delux Lyte) and speaker combination.

Reliability : 10
I had trouble with this unit before one show. Just a product of age......into the shop it went and it was a question of cleaning up old solder points. Once do it was better then new. Other then that it has been a solid performer.

GK has been very forth coming with information about the amp.

I have been playing 40 years, all kind of music.....went to Berklee. This is the only amp I need. I would like to have a backup but these amps are rare. Ifit were lost I and I could not replace it I get look for another GK. I am impressed with the company and there products.

Made in 1982 (the only year apparently)
This model has 2 channels, a Reverb Coil, effects loop and direct out as well as Headphone Jacks.
This amp can handle any style of music you want when you want.
The headphone jack is never used as it would be a crime to play it without your neighbors being able to enjoy it as well.
I use this thing for live work and in the studio only. Years ago, I thought the amp to be slightly underpowered until I figured out how to match it to the right speakers. Now it is very clean and very loud!

Marshall who?
I use many guitars with it to play anything from classical to space-alien stuff. Considering how loud it is, the amp is relatively quiet in operation. Like any amp, the louder you have it the more noise it will make. The amp has 2 separate pre-amps on the Overdrive channel, makeing it easy to set it up for any variety of sound. The 4 Tone controls also help tremendously.
At extreme levels, the clean channel sounds just as good as the Overdrive, which seems odd for a solid state amp. It is amazing what you can do with the volume control on the guitar, when the amp is set on clean and turned up high.
The distortion is very managable on this unit and can be taken to the extreme with the right Speaker combination.

Reliability : No Opinion
This thing is very dependable, although it fried once, most likely because you shouldn't turn anything all the way up like I did....If you have to turn something all the way up to make it sound good, you are using the wrong stuff. I have done countless shows without a back up because I can rely on it 100%

They were helpful when I needed to find someone to have it repaired.
They were confused when I asked them to build me another 1 or 2 or 3 because I could not find a backup unit and a second one for my rig.
There is no warranty on something this old... or is there?

I have been playing almost all of my life. As far as gear concerned, I am still one of the few that is stuck with rack gear which includes a Tuner! and a old Lexicon PT II. On the floor I use a Cry Baby and an old MXR "n g D" (I think it used to say Analog Delay)
If it were stolen? It was and somehow through a miracle I got it back without the serial numbers on it. Too bad the idiot missed my name engraved into it, which helped the Police to retrieve it.....I since secured another barely used unit just in case.
I love the sound, but do hate the fact that the effects loop and channel switching jacks are in the front of the amp, making setup a bit of a pain. As far as comparison, the fact that everybody wants to know what I am playing through and if I want to sell it should give a hint. I was considering a Soldano or a Mesa amp but could never get myself to dealing with the added maintenance of Tube Amps.
Overall I am very happy with it... and am stuck using it now. I would never switch unless both units were lost.

I Bought this amp at Guitar Center SanDiego in 1982. It has a Great and I mean Great Clean channel and a good overdrive channel, it could have a little more gain but I always combined it with an old OD1 overdrive(BOSS), so it was never a problem. it's got a n effectsloop on the front side and also has Channel switching on the front panel.
Its solid state but it sounds very warm.

Sound Quality : 8
I've used it to play Metal, Rock, Blues and also in a church worship group. It is a very loud amp with lots of clean Overhead, I've used it with a 4X12 cab. and also 1x12 cabs. and have had great results with both. Like I mentioned earlier, it could have a little more drive but with a good distortion pedal it Kicks Butt.

Reliability : 10
I have never had a Problem with this amp in 20 Years.

Customer Support : No Opinion
I've never used customer support, because i have never had a Problem.

This amp has always been reliable, sounds good, is very loud, and it definetally does not sound like a transistor amp. I would buy it again in a heartbeat if I could ever find one. I read once that Michael Schenker used one of these for solos in the studio.

This amp was made in 1981. This amp is almost impossible to find these days. It is extremely versatile and very loud. I have never played on a solid state amp with the tonal range and qualities that this amp reproduces. The clean sound reminds me of a classic fender twin reverb with new tubes. I play clean funk and dirty overdriven rock. This amp definitely cuts trough loud and clear. This amp is rack-mountable and has a headphone jack and direct out. The effects loop is easily accesible on the front panel. The overdrive channel is pretty decent but I prefer a little more gain myself but it isn't bad. For its little size, tonal quality, punch and versatility, you can't beat it.

Sound Quality : 10

I have never had a problem with this amp at all. I play loud and often and in twenty years I have only had to change one component.

I actually spoke to Gallien Krueger in July of 2002 about this amp and they were nice enough to send me a schematic of it. They were very helpful but they did not have a manual. It was before computers were really common place.

Overall Rating : 10
If it were stolen I would seriously attack ebay and begin calling pawn shops to find another one. It wouldn'g be easy though
