I have a '72 hand wired Garnet Lil Rock all-tube guitar head with the following specs:
-30 watts RMS
-Two 6V6GT power tubes, one 12AX7 preamp tube & one 6SN7 phase inverter
-Volume Level (Pull Brite), Bass Level & Treble Level
-Single channel

I have a pair of old Garnet 112 cabs. I have mounted a Weber 12F150W 4 ohm speaker with low dope into one of these cabs and I plug my head into this cab. Hoping to find a pair of decent original Marsland 12" guitar speakers for these cabs.

I use a '99 Gibson Les Paul Standard with a Bigsby vibrato and a P90 pickup in the bridge position. I also use a bastardized early '90's Japanese Telecaster which I've sanded all of the finish off of and modified into an Esquire. My music style is a mixture of Creedence Clearwater and Lynyrd Skynyrd on the swampy southern rock side of the coin to Waylon Jennings and Johnny Cash on the outlaw country rock side, with all the classics somewhere in between (Chuck Berry, Buddy Holly, Beatles, Stones, Who, Hendrix, Zeppelin, Neil Young, ZZ Top, George Thorogood, AC/DC, etc. etc.) I haven't had any problems getting a sound so far. I'm finding that the trick with a smaller tube amp like this, or any tube amp for that matter I suppose, is to basically slack back on the bass, crank the volume and treble all the way up, and control your volume and tone using the knobs on your guitar. Nothing can get down and dirty or clean up quite as beautifully as a cranked tube amp once you learn to work the controls on your guitar and to work your fingers!
Reliability

It's going on 40 years old. I've had it less than 4 months. I haven't had to service it yet, and to my knowledge, apart from having some caps cleaned and replaced, it's had very little service in it's entire life. It's hand wired and is a fairly simple circuit to repair so I'd have to believe it will be a very reliable piece of gear. I'll depend on it and rest easy.

The late great Mr. Gar Gillies has apparently left his legacy in good hands and my fellow Garnet users are like brothers so I'm sure that if I ever need support anytime in the years to come I'll do just fine!
Overall Rating

You've noticed I haven't rated any of these categories. I can't justify giving any piece of gear a 10 because nothing deserves a 10. However, if an amplifier ever deserved a rating of 10, this one does! I'm 25 years old and I've been playing since I was 8. I wanted to have a simple, straight forward, hand wired, tube driven, tone machine to plug my guitars into without needing a bunch of pedals to get a sound I like. I also got tired of having to buy a new solid state amp every 3-4 years, which not only had a lack of tone but a lack of of quality overall, and was not only impossible to repair but plain and simply not worth repairing. I've gone through a couple of Fenders, a few Peaveys, a Marshall, and a Crate and nothing has lasted or completely satisfied me. This Garnet satisfies me, I'll never part with it and I doubt I'll ever feel the need to buy another amp-unless it's another Garnet!
