Exact year of this amp is unknown, but it is estimated to be around the mid '70s. Loaded with 6L6s in the power section and 2 12au7s and 3 12ax7s in the pre-amp section. Tube driven (I think) tremolo and reverb. Both are nice features. Two separate channels, each with dual inputs, as was the style at the time, without the ability to switch between the two. The first channel is very basic with a treble and a bass knob and a volume and straight clean only. The second channel features 3 band tone control, reverb and tremolo controls.

This amp suites my style, which is pretty much everything. I prefer a clean amp, as I am a pedal fiend. Some say some amps suit certain types better than others, but this truly is extremely versatile and can easily do anything. Using the same amp settings, I can go from blues to hard metal, using playing styles, the guitar(s) and the pedals and each genre I play sounds great.

Sound Quality : 10
As I said above, the amp is extremely versatile. I can dial out any sound I need with the help of my guitar and some effects pedals. The amp gives you the perfect clean slate for you to build on with your guitar, playing styles and effects pedals.

The clean channel does not break up at all on high volumes, which is a plus for me, as I've mentioned. It stays clean all the way up to the top volume, therefore no distortion (that's what pedals are for).

I use a Hamer Studio Custom USA through this amp with a pair of Duncan '59s. I also use a custom made parts Strat with SCN Fender Noiseless pickups. For effects, I currently only use a Fulltone Fulldrive 2 for overdrive and a Line 6 Distortion Modeller for distortion modelling.

The amp does not emit an excessive amount of noise, just the typical amount only when the effects pedals are on.

Reliability : 10
I would definately gig with this because it sounds great and weighs about 15 pounds less than my Peavey Classic 50. It also has rolling casters, which is a great bonus.

When I purchased the amp, it was pretty much dead, but that was due to years and years of neglect. Just sitting around in closets and collecting dust.

The tubes were dead (they were the originals that still said "Garnet" on them), the pots were all dirty and popped when moved. Other than that, this thing is the tops. I had all the tubes replaced and the pots cleaned and this thing works perfectly. I was lucky to come across it.

The company has long since been defunct. I did have some repairs done as mentionend, and they would not have been covered under any warranty anyhow. There maybe someone in Winnepeg who has experience with these amps, but I wasn't about the fly there to find out. The way this amp was built though, they could have easily provided a lifetime warranty.

Overall Rating : 10
I've been playing for about 15 years now. My guitars are a Hamer Studio Custom USA, a custom made parts Strat and a crummy korean made Washburn Idol that I put a Duncan Custom in to try to make it sound better. Ampwise, I also own a Peavey Classic 50 212.

If this were stolen or lost, I'd be angry because I know for sure I'll never find this amp again.

If I come across another, I'll pick it up. I'd even buy another one after that, if the opportunity arose.

My advice is that if you happen across one of these, buy it. You won't be disappointed, even if some work had to be done to it (you probably wouldn't have much to do though).

Two channels high and low inputs, Treb, Mid, Bass, Pull Bright Volume on each channel.
Channel 2 has Tremolo (speed, depth)and Reverb. Both channels use the same master volume that functions as a pull-boost switch for channel two. It has two speaker outputs, and an option for switching the load from 4 to 8 ohms. It mostly tube ( pre-amp, power-amp, reverb and tremolo) with a solid state rectifier. It is completely hand wired, close to but not quite military specs.

Sound Quality : 10
I always look for an amp with plenty of tone, and clean headroom. This amp has both. It is very bright sounding and has a great bottom end when driven through a 4-10, or a 1-15 cab. The reverb is nice with plenty of head-room, the tremolo can be very pounding. My amp is VERY QUIET!!!!!. No hum at all levels!...Maybe I just lucked out.
I use an Ibanez 808 tube screamer and several boss overdrives to play blues. I am very impressed with this amp.

Reliability : 8
I did very little work to get it running, and it has been no trouble since. It is well built, and should be no trouble to maintain.

I was very lucky to have found this amp in a pawn shop, bought it, did very minor repairs, re-tubed (2 6L6, 3 12ax7, 2 12au7) powered up, and have had great tone ever since. I would recomend this amp for anyone who likes to start with a claen amp that reproduces the sound of thier guitar faithfully, and who likes to use pedals for thier overdrive.

-Manufactured in 1975
-Designed by Gar Gillies, who is still in business on a small scale in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada
-Designed mainly for Jazz and Blues guitarists
-2 Clean Channels, one with tremelo and bright control.
-2 Inputs per channel
-Tubes
-Foot Controlled tremelo with speed and depth controls on the amp
-Made with 2 and 4 12" speakers (my version has 4)
-50 watts

The Amp is very loud and is definately competant with a distortion pedal if neccessary and works well in concert
Equiped with a jack for an Ext. Speaker
Tubes are common and easily replaced.

The Amp was a blessing. I recieved it at no cost and since I live in Winnipeg, Manitoba, where the designer of the amp is still servicing and custom building equipment, I took it to him for any services. He told me that if the amp was in his possession for sale, he would sell it for no less than $650 Canadian/$450 US.

Sound Quality : 8
The amp works well with guitars of it's era. I play through it with a 1979 American Fender Strat that sounds amazing. On the whole the amp is very versatile with a good effects pedal or rack. On its own, the amp may not compare to an equivalently priced amp from today, but for its era it was ahead of the times and an excellent piece of equipment. The sound doesn't distort because the amp only has two clean channels but it is equally competent at high and low volumes. It's kind of noisy because the technology wasn't in place for better grounding and many of the amps need to be regrounded to meet today's electrical safety requirements. Because it is an old piece of equipment I'm not sure how reliable it is, but mine has been nothing but bliss. For the money that could be made selling it, I wouldn't be able to replace it with an equivalent new amp. Because it is also valuable due to it's age but parts aren't neccessarily rare.

Some electrical ground work may need to be done, because safety regulations were not in place to govern this when it was built

If you live in outside of Manitoba, it may be difficult to have serviced unless you know a good technician. Any warranty that ever existed has no doubt expired by now.

I love it. it's great. sounds good. looks good. and it can be serviced by the man who designed it because his shop is in Winnipeg, where i live.
