The GA77 amp that I had was a 1961 tweed actually a GA77RV and was only made in that year. I play lots of Chet Atkins stuff and like the rich thick sounds at lower volumes that this amp is good for.

Sound Quality : No Opinion
I play a Gretsch similar to the Gountry Gent. And the combination works good together, well enough that I want another to be able to use my stereo echo box. The sound I get is very clean and big at low volume levels.

Reliability : 8
I have owned three of these over the years and found them to be very dependable, only tubes and caps and thats not bad for forty odd years. The guy who bought one at a pawn shop and wanted his money back needs to contact me, and I would give it to him.

I would like to find the schematic for the model with 6EU7 preamp tubes, so far I have been able to find all the other models but not this one. I dont think anyone knows anything about it to give support info.

Overall Rating : 8
I have been playing about 35 years and own a number of tube amps of which this is my favorite. Of all the amps I have ever owned, A Blues Deville, Ampex reverberocket, Gibson Falcon and a host of others this one for me is still my favorite.

I feel this amp was probable made in the mid sixties. It is covered in a brown tolex, and the control panel is atop the amp.The amp is a two channel amp,the first channel accomodates mic or instrment with vol, bass, treb.Channel two is where it shines, vol, bass, treb, rev, depth, trem, and freq. This combo houses a 15in.sig series JBL,which sounds incredable. It sports two 5881 power tubes and six pre amp and rev/trem tubes. This amp is very warm sounding but has alot of bite when cranked. It can handle any styles from jazz to rock,Gibson made a versitile winner here.

Sound Quality : 10
Warmand sweet at low volumes, punchy and brown sounding when pushed past3to4. This amp will suit just about style of music with the exception of over the edge crap, which now you can do with a pedal

Reliability : 10
Have only had this amp a few months, but use it reg. and have not even had the slighest hint of any unreliability. This amp looks and sounds brand new!

Customer Support : No Opinion
Bought it from a pawnshop, and we both know the warranty there, you give me your money ,I give you this amp.

Overall Rating : 10
I've been playing 26 years and owned fender ,marshall, boogie, vox,gk,mitchell and many models of each. Guitars owned are three vintage strats 62 to 74'. 70 GIBSON 335,MELANCON ARTIST,ANDERSON DROPTOP. This amp compliments all these guitars well. AND CAN HOLD IT'S OWN WITH ANY AMP MENTIONED ABOVE!

Two channel non swithcing. Channel 1: volume, bass, treble. Channel 2: volume, tone, fidelity. Both channels are bridged to use controls of both channels interactively. 6 tube model, 2 5881 power tubes and a 12AY7, 12AX7 and 12AU7 in the pre-amp section. 2 speaker out jacks. Gibson rated it for 25w, but measured 28w. Unfortunatly the original combo cab was a feable attempt to convert it into a head. I built an new combo cab for it and use a 12" celestion 30. The original used a 15". Caps and tubes have been replaced, the rest original. The circuit is kept to original specs.

I play a solid body with Evans humbuckers, an archtop with Gibson classic 57 reissue humbuckers and a 3 single coil (humbucking) dimarzio rail type guitars. All guitars are custom made. From the volume set at 1 to 2 1/2 the tone is old Fendereque warm clean. At 3 the crunch begins. Above this and you have incredible classic rock distortion even at living room volumes. Fantastic mids and low end chunk! I still can't believe that this amp was made in 57!! It's a rock monster! One drawback.... if you want clean at high volumes.... it can't do it. If you want natural distortion at acceptable db levels, then this is it. This amp does not need pedals! Natural, natural, natural! You can blend both channels together to make it quite versatile.

Reliability : No Opinion
Not much to say here. I had to replace almost all the caps...they were dried out. The chassis is heavy duty steel and all point to point.

Overall Rating : 9
I have been playing and building guitars for over 22 years and have gone through my fair share of amps (Fender, Marshall, Mesa, Rivera). I took a chance on this one having never heard one before. For $15, why not! This amp has it's own place. If you like natural tube distortion (the best) then pick one up if you see one around. I still can't believe that an amp this old can kick ass in the rock department!! Simply amazing.
