Features : 7
Also known as the Hilgen "Pacesetter".

I've looked all over for postings in this model- to no avail, so I'll include what little I have as a "starter" page-

Made in the mid Sixties by Hilgen Mfg. a New Jersey company.
(1) 10 inch speaker - can't determine what make but has never blown out.
Controls and inputs located on top of cabinet.
Input jacs: normal, bright and instrument( aka accordion) on other Hilgen models)
Other : Dual footswitch jac
Knob/Controls in on top: Vol, Tone, Tremolo Intensity, Reverb intensity, ON/OFF and power light indiator.

Cabinet of size and vinyl black material similar to Hilgen's "Meteor" model. Front grill was a tanish-white nylonish fabric with some black "threads" randomly looping around the face of the fabric.

Can't say what the power output was - 25 to 50, I suspect.

Tubes- 7 tubes: 3 on the bottom of the control chassis(2) 7591, (1)5U4GB); and 4 to the inside side- (1)"looks to be" a 6L6, (1)7199, (1)12AU7a abd (1)2AX7A

Sound Quality : 8
I bought this amp in 1968 from a garage band buddy for $65.
It was a great little amp with a good volume to keep up with the other kids' Fender Super Reverb at time. Good bass and treble tone quality- albeit I would have liked separate knob (Bass and Treble). Initially It put Domino (Dawson) hollow body thru it, then later the bass-ier tone of the SG with good response and little flutter.

Disortion was not something I really noticed.... until I stepped on the ol Fuzz box.- or accidentally yanked the input cable or knocked the amp and the reverb spring er, crashed.

Loudness:.....Dahh, It was loud enough to be the primary cause of my hearing loss in my "amp side" right ear 20 years later.

Reliability : 8
The amp ran well for decades. I never met anyone that had a Hilgen- and the manufacturer was located in my state! It became an item of curiousity among my Fender, Vox and Ampeg guitar friends.

After about 18 years it started to give me some exploding feedback -once the tubes got really hot- I had never never replaced a tube in it ( durability?) but I think old age got to it. By then I got a small Peavey as a replacement. With the intermittant feedback issue, I haven't used it in a long while but now, in my older age, think about getting the old tuber a last chance. Maybe see if a leaking cap or resonating tube needs a replacement. Then I can give my son the Peavey!

Customer Support : No Opinion
Customer Support: Hilgen Mfg. is long gonzo with little to nothing left to history other than "its said to have been a variation" of an Ampeg model (also of NJ fame) and was a variant for some Univox model.
Its been difficult to find any mention of this particular model and only traces of the Meteor and Challenger guitar and the Bass models via Google. Folks were looking for wiring diagrams for them too.

From postings on the tubes related to this model, I think that most competent electrical technicians should be able to do it- but one tube can cost $50-$100 each - most about $20-30 each.

Anyone who wants to add any reference, details, diagrams and such for this model - I'd be glad to see them added thereto.
